I just discovered this with a little research with people having similar wifi problems. Simply change your router settings to 2.4 ghz band instead of 5 ghz band. For some reason the G4 is having problems with 5 ghz bands.
Or if you cant do that, just connect your phone to the 2.4 ghz band of your wifi if your router is dual broadcasting.

I'm trying it, not sure if it'll work. I've had 2.4 and 5 networks saved, i've just deleted the 5 network, we'll see if it's better.
Adding this line to my build.prop seems to have fixed this issue for me. I'm still testing but my phone isn't having any issues on the 5Ghz AC band.

Didn't work for me
not connecting to 5Ghz is NOT a fix at all..
i didn't tried the scan intervall, i'll test it.
but i can confirm that either the reception is low and that the phone love to loose the signal :/
It also sometimes says that it has bad internet conneciton, so it refuse to connect (didn't found the setting to disable this stupidity... I know that on stock android under wifi settings you can disable this behaviour)
Sometimes it is also refusing to connect to a wifi... it just say registering and stoped...
only way to force it : reboot the phone...
hope that a software update will fix these issues.

Is anyone getting an authentication error displayed on access points? I get this random on my work/home access point and yes I am close to the access point. I dont think it started doing this until the 4.1.2 update.
Did you try "forget" on your connections and then recreate them?

Yup, I deleted all and its fixed for a few hours. If I turn wifi off and back on it fix's it for a little while. Its random, but it looks like the S3 and the Note 2 have the issue. I googled it and found other people with the same issues.
Very odd. I'm assuming you're running stock and not a bleeding edge custom rom. Is this any ap, or just one or 2? Ones you control?
I really don't know enough about the spectrums and noise congestion, but if they're ones you can control, use a wifi app that'll show you all the aps and channels in your area. That should help you find a less congested one.
Until someone more knowledgeable chimes in, all I have are ideas. :/

Same problem
Yea this is really weird. I have a ASUS RT-N66U router with a 2.4 ghz band and a 5ghz band as well as a second router being used as an access point. I have a fairly large house and my first router didn't quite reach some spots. So at first I had the SSID the same for both routers. I was having problems with the setup so I changed the SSID of the access point router and all was well for a couple of weeks. then all of the sudden the RT-N66U router started giving me the Authentication error. So I have tried everything including giving the 5ghz band a diffrent SSID and that worked for the 5ght band. I can access the 5ghz band but still get the authentication error with the 2.4ghz band.
Getting this problem too.

I have the identical problem as well with the same router and the same phone.

I got this error as well on my RT-N66U and S3. So, is this a Samsung and ASUS issue?
I haven't seen this issue with other phones connecting to my N66U.
I've had this issue as well. Although I am using a belkin router.
I tried the forget this network and still had the issue come up occasionally. I reset my modem and router and haven't had the problem since.

using 2 routers in the same house is always asking for connection troubles, even if you have one of them set as "access points"; I have a netgear router, and a netgear access point in my large house, and they work just fine; I have set up the access point with a different network name than the actual router, and, when I am in the part of my house, or outside, which is closer to the access point location, I just switch wifi networks on my phone/tablet to the "other" network, and it connects just fine....
Ive gotten it randomly also...

Wow...same router (RT-N66U), same phone, same problem...!
Although for me it only happens on 5Ghz...I have the strange feeling that this will remain a mystery...!
EDIT: Got sick of this. I've scanned for other 5Ghz networks in my area in there were just 2, very low reception from where I am. Removed WPA2 and now running open with wifi mac filtering. Voila.

Got same router with note 2 and note 8 on 5 ghz. 2.4 is not an option(exceopt for poor chromecast) as it is flooded with 20 other APs. Only 1 other 5 GHz AP around on different channel with very weak signal. Note 2 is pretty good about staying conencted but somedays note 8 just will not play nice and have to switch to 2.4 GHz SSID. see new FW for outer release 9/11. Will try when i get home.
Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with connecting to my 802.11ac router (Apple's Time Capsule). In "Automatic" mode, it connects to my SSID via 2.4GHz only. When I go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced and choose Wi-Fi Frequency band as 5Ghz it finds 0 networks in the area.
FYI - I'm on 3.1.3 OxygenOS.
Is anyone experiencing similar issues?
Best,
Mash
Edit: To be clear, I have several devices including my laptop that are connected to the 5Ghz band. I've also used a WiFi scanner in my old S6 Edge to verify that there are SSIDs broadcasting in the 5Ghz band.
I use 5 GHz network at home and it works fine with my op3.

using 5Ghz on Fritzbox, i also use diffrent ssid names for 2,4 and 5ghz and also different passwords
Thanks guys. Are both of you on 3.1.3? I'm trying to isolate the issue here...

Got a 3TB time capsule here. OOS 3.1.3 - on automatic, it only connects to 2G despite having full 5G signal, however if i switch it to 5G only, it finds both main and guest networks in that band and connects fine Try re-flashing stock rom
Thanks - I'll try and do a nandroid backup and reflash to see if that fixes the issue.

Check what frequency and channel width your 5ghz band is set to, one time I changed my 2.4ghz and my ps4 couldn't detect it til I changed back.
Just tried 5Ghz without issue using channel widths 20Mhz, 40Mhz, and 80Mhz.

Thanks guys. I wonder if I've got a lemon.
I've just reflashed 3.1.3 and even then can't find or detect ANY 5GHz SSIDs. This is so frustrating.
I guess a call to support is the way forward.

Check if you are able to connect to a different 5GHz Network. It _might_ be an issue with the router itself.
Mine OP3 connects to 2.4 and 5 without any problems (TP-Link Archer C7).

I have just bought a new moto Z2 play, everything is great but the wi-fi disconnects and reconnects too much when i am in the next room. I had moto z play earlier and it gave me no problems at all.
I have reset the networks, forget wifi and started fresh, restarted phone in safe mode, restarted router and still facing the issue.
Any perfect fix/solution please?!
What network ? 2.4 ? 5 GHz ?
For me 5GHz is much faster at least, they are both stable but 5GHz is noticeably better.
What AP are you using ?
Last time when I had frequent disconnects on Android device, it was due to incorrectly set security parameters on the WiFi AP.
IM facing the same issue
I have the same problem on latest version. The connection to my 5 GHz network at home is just bad. It's not great on 2.4 GHz too, but 5 GHz is just a desaster. It's slow, often can't transport anything and very often just disconnects and then it takes an eternity to reconnect. Most of the time it won't even show up in WiFi list, but very often it at least still shows up when checking with WiFi connection manager. Then it's still there at about -70 to -60 dB which should be more than enough for a stable connection.
And like the op I can confirm I had absolutely no problems on the first gen Moto Z play.
My router is a "Fritz!Box 6490" by AVM (Not known much outside but everyone that understands a thing about routers they will recommend that company since they make the best non-business routers you can get here) and I don't think there can be any problem with it since the Z2 play is the only device having any problem.
I can't use 2.4 GHz at home which I can understand since that frequency band is just too crowded, but I put my 5 GHz network in the highest band possible, the next WiFi signal is about 7 bands lower. The only signal using the same band is the guest WiFi of the router but there is no traffic at all on it.
The router UI seems to confirm that there are problems. It shows my phone's connection with a signal strength of about -90 dB while the phone itself reports about -65 dB. And while the router UI shows a momentary data speed in the hundreds of Mbit/s for my laptop (which also maxes out at 802.11n, so no ac), it mostly shows one under 10 for my phone, that only changes when I'm doing a speedtest, but not much
It's there any hidden WiFi setting for Android that could be altered or anything to make the connection as robust as it's supposed to be?
Hi all, I can only connect to 2ghz wifi, 5ghz wifi does not appear at wifi settings. I remember when unbox the phone I connected to 5ghz wifi, but now no. I'm dreaming or anything goes wrong?
Edit: done a reset in recovery mode and 5ghz wifi appear in settings. I will not restore a previous backup
Edit2: I finally found what happens, if you untick the 5g in SIM settings the 5ghz wifi band stops working. And if I active the VolteHD I can't identify the contact.
Edit3: No working 5ghz wifi after 10 minutos standby.
Best regards.

Yesterday, I did a safe reboot to the phone and I got some hours of 5GHz band connection without issues.
Today, I turned on the WiFi on the phone (I sleep without it activated), and connected automatically to the 5GHz band.
But after 30 minutes has passed, the problem showed again (no 5GHz band, no 5GHz neighborhood bands).
My old phone still reach them and can connect to the 5GHz networks.
Really annoying bug. Also, it seems it's nothing related to the 5g button / mobile network settings
I'm connected to 5ghz just fine, however personal hotspot only works on 2.5ghz.

I have the same problem with 5ghz wifi. It happened randomly from time to time in not able to find and 5ghz ssid. The only way to make it work again is to restart the phone and my phone will be able to see and connect 5ghz wifi.
I also have no problem with 5Ghz WiFi issues. Mine is NA/Asia version 3.13 8/128 variant.
Similar issue 5ghz hotspot
I did not have problem connecting to 5gh wifi, but i had another issue where my other devices supporting 5ghz band could not detect my 5ghz RM5G hotspot. I found a solution in this website for another problem but it solved this issue. Just switch the sim from slot 1 to slot 2 and restart the phone. This fixed the problem for me and all my devices detected and connected to the RM 5ghz hotspot without problems. Maybe this would work to make the RM detect the 5ghz wifi.
I bought a Poco F4 (global version, xiaomi.eu 14.0.5.0) about one month ago, I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever, save for the fact that it suddenly won't detect my 5ghz WiFi networks (my main router + a repeater) - and I'm not even sure if this is an issue with the phone itself.
I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, which was known to have this issue, but to have this happen on 2 different phones is really weird. If I recall correctly this issue started to affect me after I changed my ISP.
The only ways I have to detect the networks again is to go the debug mode and use the WiFi Sniffer Test Tool or reboot the phone, which was more or less the same thing I had to do on the S20 FE (I had to go turn on airplane mode try updating the firmware via debug mode).
What I've tried so far to solve this issue:
1. Changing the channel of the 5ghz WiFi
2. Changing the bandwith from 20/40/80 to 20/40
3. Setting "Use Device Mac" on the phone's network settings.
4. Turning off WiFi Scan Throttle
5. Changing the bandwith to 20
All of the above methods, save for the last one, did not work. And while it does work, it limits the speed of my internet to bellow 100mbps.
The issue is not related to the WiFi coverage as well since it only happened when I'm on my own room, which is where my router is located.
I don't know if I can detect other networks apart from my own since even when they 5ghz detection is working I can't find any of my neighbors' networks. I'm unable to create a 5ghz hotspot on my S20 FE or on my old Redmi Note 9S for some reason.
I'm at a loss on what to do, it happens on both stock and xiaomi.eu, at least and at most once per day.
If anyone else is facing the same issue or has any suggestion on what I should try next please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your input. I'll try to turn on my old router when the issue happens again. I find it odd that the issue affects both my main router and the one I use as a repeater, but everytime I made any slight change on the main router, the other one's signal almost immediately disappears to apply the changes as well, so it's probably that.

Thank you! I'm almost certain that the issue is that the bandwith isn't fixed at 80mhz, it's 20/40/80mhz, and when I had the bandwith set to 20mhz I didn't had the issue.

Thank you! It's probably related to the bandwith. I was able to turn on an old router and my phone was able to detect the 5ghz network after the bug happened and my router + repeater signal was missing.
Have you tried resetting your router to the default settings? Or maybe set a specific IP address on your phone in your home network? As said above, it is a setup issue of your network most probably..
