Question Update to OOS 13 with Magisk and TWRP - OnePlus 9 Pro

Hi. I would like to install OOS 13 with Magisk and TWRP. When I bought the phone I had OOS 12.1. I unlocked the bootloader, I wanted to load TWRP for this Android version (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...twrp-with-a12-a13-encryption-support.4523857/) using vendor_boot.img and boot.img, but my smartphone bricked. I saved it with MSM. Current OOS version 11.4.4. What are the best steps to take now to safely do TWRP and Magisk and update to OOS 13?

You can"t flash from OOS 11 to OOS 13, tyou have to go thru intermediary OTA updates.
Why would you like to use TWRP to flash OOS OTAs ?
Update normally as per your system OTAs

I know I can't from OOS 11 to OOS 13. I just want to set up the steps so that I have TWRP. I want to be able to make a full backup. For OOS 12.1 and 13 TWRP is unofficial. Maybe there is another recovery yet.

Updating from OxygenOS 3.2.2

Hello XDA, I am running rooted Oxygen OS 3.2.2 with unlocked bootloader on my OnePlus 3 and TWRP version 3.0.2-0 and I want to update to the newest Oxygen OS (I think 4.1.6) How should I proceed? Can I just dirty flash it over it? I am kinda scared because I have read somewhere that some versions of TWRP cause issues. Thanks in advance.

Just flash it on top of whichever rom you are. You'll be good, but keep în mind that flashing stock 4.1.6 will restore stock recovery.
To preventiv this, flash stock 4.1.6 the flash the latest recovery before rebooting. I personally bluspark's twrp. Cheers

Update TWRP and OOS

I installed TWRP from blu_spark and magisk the first day my 5T arrived.
Now there is the official TWRP and an OOS update.
How do I go ahead to flash the real TWRP and update OOS without wiping all my data? And do I have to re-flash Magisk?
Thanks for your help.
just flash OOS, magisk and then the official twrp .... done

In that order I won't lose any files?
And can I just use the OTA or Incremental zip or do I have to download and flash the full zip?
And since I am already on it, can I just flash a custom kernel afterwards without losing data?

Full zip.
No data loss.
Kernel is fine.
1. flash the official twrp image using blu_spark
2. flash the full OTA zip from official twrp
3. flash magisk
Just to add to the original question (and my case is with official TWRP), an Oxygen OS update notification just popped today.
I have read at multiple places that incremental zips don't work with custom recoveries.
Just wanted to confirm: even though the update notification pops-up, I cannot (am not supposed to) update the phone with the OTA, can I?

[Help] update to new Pie Oxygen 9 from Nougat 4.7.6

Hello, i am currently on a rooted OS 4.7.6, i tried to update to new 9.0 pie by dirty flash, but i am getting error 7. I am running last blue spark recovery and also flashed magisk uninstaller, but all this is not working. I thought that i cannot straight update from 4.7.6 so tried the 5.1.7 version but again, error 7. Should i update step by step? Or?
Any Help would be really appreciated

I think you should make this order (with local upgrade):
4.7.6 -> 5.1.1 -> 5.1.3 -> 5.1.4 -> 5.1.7 -> 9.0.0
5.1.7: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_040_all_1811051816_0ba8519405d736b.zip
5.1.4: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_037_all_1807181258_38617f40a639.zip
5.1.3: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_036_all_1806131716_b654bd0e23b5b.zip
5.1.1: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_034_all_1804201221_5c1b6d44ac9.zip
Or just use unbrick tool guide to flash 5.1.7 then update 9.0.0.
I suggest backup your data and make clean flash with unbrick tool(5.1.7) then update 9.0.0

I think that doing 4.7.6 -> 5.1.4 -> 5.1.7 -> 9.0.0 must work, at least for me this worked, but was full stock. ( If you go to software update menu it must show the next version that don`t have any incompatibility )
Big thanks to both guys, i solved by installing from setting 5.1.4, then 5.1.7 and finally 9.0 by flashing in custom recovery. No more error 7!

Hi, I have a OP5, should be the same about the process. Was your phone rooted? mine is. I am trying to do this for a while and I believe after Nougat there are some changes on partitions and that's why it is not that easy anymore to update.

I'm trying to go from rooted 4.7.6 on 5t (android 7.1.1.) to Pie. What is the best way there? I am using TWRP. Do I have to unlock the bootloader to achieve this?

Root redmi note 9 pro joyeuse (MIUI 13.1 Android 12)

Hello xda. I'm thinking about rooting my note 9 pro.. I have the EEA firmware version latest Android 12 update.
V13.0.1.0.SJZEUXM
I'm thinking about grab the boot.img from the firmware, patch it via Magisk and flash it using fast boot. I mean without twrp. Will it be possible for this phone and this android version? I rooted my mi 8 lite this way and it work like a charm no twrp needed. Did you ever tryed this way to root your note 9?
I mean I can't find a stable twrp version.. Especially for Android 12 .
So if i try the method mentioned above will it work? I don't really need twrp for anything. Only need root.
Yes, if you simply follow the official Magisk install guide by TopJohnWu (patching the boot.img with the latest Magisk app and flashing it via fastboot - no need for recovery) it will work. In case you have to use apps which need SafetyNet (running on the official ROM).. that's a whole different story.. then you will need USNF, too, etc..
On MIUI 12 (Android 11) my phone was rooted with Magisk, I updated MIUI and of course the phone got unrooted, I redid the whole boot.img Magisk patching thing and tried installing Magisk, but now it doesn't work, I went around trying a bunch of different TWRP, including unofficial ones, nothing seems to be working.
