[Help] update to new Pie Oxygen 9 from Nougat 4.7.6 - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Hello, i am currently on a rooted OS 4.7.6, i tried to update to new 9.0 pie by dirty flash, but i am getting error 7. I am running last blue spark recovery and also flashed magisk uninstaller, but all this is not working. I thought that i cannot straight update from 4.7.6 so tried the 5.1.7 version but again, error 7. Should i update step by step? Or?
Any Help would be really appreciated

I think you should make this order (with local upgrade):
4.7.6 -> 5.1.1 -> 5.1.3 -> 5.1.4 -> 5.1.7 -> 9.0.0
5.1.7: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_040_all_1811051816_0ba8519405d736b.zip
5.1.4: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_037_all_1807181258_38617f40a639.zip
5.1.3: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_036_all_1806131716_b654bd0e23b5b.zip
5.1.1: OnePlus5TOxygen_43_OTA_034_all_1804201221_5c1b6d44ac9.zip
Or just use unbrick tool guide to flash 5.1.7 then update 9.0.0.
I suggest backup your data and make clean flash with unbrick tool(5.1.7) then update 9.0.0

I think that doing 4.7.6 -> 5.1.4 -> 5.1.7 -> 9.0.0 must work, at least for me this worked, but was full stock. ( If you go to software update menu it must show the next version that don`t have any incompatibility )

Big thanks to both guys, i solved by installing from setting 5.1.4, then 5.1.7 and finally 9.0 by flashing in custom recovery. No more error 7!

Hi, I have a OP5, should be the same about the process. Was your phone rooted? mine is. I am trying to do this for a while and I believe after Nougat there are some changes on partitions and that's why it is not that easy anymore to update.

I'm trying to go from rooted 4.7.6 on 5t (android 7.1.1.) to Pie. What is the best way there? I am using TWRP. Do I have to unlock the bootloader to achieve this?

Updating from OxygenOS 3.2.2

Hello XDA, I am running rooted Oxygen OS 3.2.2 with unlocked bootloader on my OnePlus 3 and TWRP version 3.0.2-0 and I want to update to the newest Oxygen OS (I think 4.1.6) How should I proceed? Can I just dirty flash it over it? I am kinda scared because I have read somewhere that some versions of TWRP cause issues. Thanks in advance.

Just flash it on top of whichever rom you are. You'll be good, but keep în mind that flashing stock 4.1.6 will restore stock recovery.
To preventiv this, flash stock 4.1.6 the flash the latest recovery before rebooting. I personally bluspark's twrp. Cheers

Manually updating to Pie?

Hi all. New OP5T user here. Currently running on android 8.1 on PixelExperience ROM but planning on updating when the stable version of Pie gets released. Have a few questions:
- I've searched in the forum that updating to an open beta version of pie is as simple as wipe and flash for those on twrp when coming from previous android versions (such as 8.1). Does this mean I can do the same with the stable version and just flash Pie based ROMs afterwards?
- when I flashed a custom ROM which failed to boot, I tried to restore the nandroid backup of the stock rom but unfortunately, i was greeted with a black screen. Now Im scared to freely test out roms because of that failed nandroid backup. Did anything change in what specific partitions one has to back up? Ive always just backed up whatever partitions were checked by default in my Nexus 6p days and it always worked.
Did you already have 5.1.4 and 5.1.5? Check for project Treble. What I did to get the latest open beta without screwing up my phone is that I flashed through TWRP the latest stable release, then I flashed stock recovery so I can flash the latest Pie beta. After that you can choose to stay stock or flash twrp and magisk. Everything works fine. If you end up with a bricked phone and even recovery doesn't show there is a tool uploaded from 1+ customer service on this forum that can help you recover your phone! I tried and it worked!

To ensure no problems when updating, you must backup your apps and data with titanium backup or any other app that you like and do a complete wipe.
To ensure that all will work flawless, you must be sure that the last OOS that were installed in your phone was up to 5.1.4, flash de OOS 5.1.7 on TWRP after a factory reset, and then just update to 9.0.0 without any issues.
If your last OOS version was 5.1.4 or lower, you must flash the 5.1.4 in twrp and then the 5.1.7.
Or just use this, with this to flash 5.1.7

Thanks. I was able to update OOS to 5.1.7 through OTA then flashed my current ROM. I was told i could just flash a custom PIE rom right away as I'm on the latest FW, yes?

For sure, now you can flash any pie ROM you want. (OOS Based)
For those that aren't based in OOS, depends from one to another, and now, as the official pie is recent, some are using old blobs ( from 5.1.7 and maybe have some incompatibilities with the new blobs)

Ah right. Does that mean its better to wait for non-OOS pie roms to be based on the latest official build? Sorry, but what are blobs?

Blobs are the things that ROMs are in the scratch, the device specific things. For now I think that all the mainstream ROMs already are based on the new OOS, but always is better to read all ROM specific thread to be sure.

Unable to root with magisk after pie update.

I recently updated my device to miui pie. Earlier i was using rooted miui oreo with redfox twrp.
After updating i'm unable to root it with magisk. Tried 19.2, 19.1. Both these versions giving bootloop. Tried 18.1, it boots but says magisk missing.
So i'm left with custom recovery, unlocked bootloader and no root access.
Any help?

Sorry To Read You've Seemed To Have Lost The Ability To Gain Root Access..
But.. I do want to thank you for answering my question.. and saving me from creating a thread.
And to those that are wondering.. Yes.. I still own the device.
There are so many GREAT new devices dropping at what seems like an "All at Once" pace.. and so many devices on sale (S9's & Note 9's are high on my list) that I've dropped down a gear.. so that I may choose my next device based on a Series of Conditions..
I can tell you this BB.. 10.3.1.0 Oreo runs FANTASTIC and rooted easily with Magisk 16.6....
I'd give that version a try even being locked into Pie.. I'll just keep this on 10.3.1.0 Oreo.. and let the new owner make the hard choice.. Good Luck Sir !

Try to flash magisk uninstaller and then flash magisk (installer). You can install a custom rom, and if you like miui, there are many miui-based roms, like xiaomi.eu

Unlocked bootloader ...it will erase your storage completely ....as there is a encryption error which they have not yet resolved...
so any way you need to backup ur datas... then use the latest TWRP 3.3 or flash the stock recovery which you can download from oneplus support ....
then install the full rom it will be updated ...
