LineageOS for microG 19.1 - VPN issue - Asus Zenfone 5Z Questions & Answers

Hello All, I have installed LOS for microG 19.1 on Asus Zenfone 5z. Almost all is running ok so far but I have an issue with VPN. When I enable “Always-on VPN” and “Block connections without VPN” options in settings, it blocks also connection for the actual VPN app with these settings turned on. As a result I cannot connect to VPN with these enabled. I tried this with 2 different VPN apps and the behaviour was the same. When I turn them off, connection works perfectly fine but I want to avoid leaks outside of VPN.
I then created a Work profile with Insular, installed the same VPN app and turned the above settings on. In this case it worked as intended – all is blocked apart from the VPN app that can still connect regardless of the status in Personal profile.
I have also LOS for microG 18.1 installed on LG G2 and there doesn't seem to be the same connection/block issue with VPN.
Has anyone else experienced this issue with VPN on LOS 19.1 or could try it? What is causing this and is there any possible solution, pls? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi All, just fyi, after upgrading to LOS for microG 20.0 it seems that the VPN issue is resolved.

Same here, jus with Samsung Galaxy s10+. But no LOS 20 for it available. So i suppose its a generally bug on LOS 19?

[Q] "Turning on wi-fi" issue on all Lollipop-based ROMs

Hello all,
I have tried out a variety of ROMs on my Z1 Compact (D5503), but unfortunately there is an issue with every Lollipop-based ROM that I've flashed. I can connect to WPA2 Personal networks just fine, but attempting to connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network takes much, much longer than usual. Not only this, but the Wi-Fi will disable itself when it disconnects, and when [re-]enabling Wi-Fi in Settings, the Settings app will freeze with "Turning on wi-fi", seemingly indefinitely. Sometimes it will connect again and the app will continue responding, sometimes it won't, but this only happens with known WPA2 Enterprise networks in range. Using the quick toggle has no effect either.
Lollipop ROMs I have tried include Dirty Unicorns, CyanogenMod, Resurrection Remix, SlimLP and CyanHacker. It seems it is common to any Lollipop-based ROM I flash, but I have no clue as to what is going on. Nothing seems to appear in the Logcat either.
Does anybody else have this issue, or know how to solve this? Some searching has led me to similar issues for people on Nexus devices (https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80028 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/lollipop-wifi-issues-takes-long-time-to-t2941686), with no solutions.
For now, I unfortunately had to downgrade to KitKat -- every KitKat ROM (stock and AOSP) has absolutely no issue with connecting to these networks quickly, but it seems that most developers have moved to Lollipop.
I can confirm that. I have the same problem in our company network. But could it be, this problem is related to the MAC address problem? (same MAC address on all phones using cm12)
And here I thought I was the only one! It is a relief to hear that I am not the only one with this problem, because it means that it probably has a solution.
Well, I have tested out both Resurrection Remix (CM based) and Dirty Unicorns (AOSP based), and they both have the same MAC address. The bug seems to be described at https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/NIGHTLIES-659 and http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Known_Issues_page_for_amami and there seems to be a fix suggested at http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2-tablet/help/change-mac-adress-permanently-cm12-t3038146 although it seems like it is not just limited to CM.
I will test out one of these ROMs tomorrow with a modified MAC address to see whether the fix helps at all.
I didn't try it yet because I often try new nightlys and don't want to copy over the MAC address file everytime again. But it would be interresting to know if this causes the problem. Actually I just disable wifi when I'm at work. Please share your test results then.
Well I tried it with Dirty Unicorns unofficial ROM today, and I managed to change my MAC address by editing the file /system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/(something).ini. This was confirmed by the "About Phone" dialog in the Settings, unfortunately it doesn't seem to help the connection to wi-fi, which suffers the same issues. Deleting wi-fi networks seems impossible too.
Too bad. My hope is that the upcoming release of Sonys official Lollipop ROM will help to fix this and other issues in our open source versions.
WiFI works perfectly in the last unofficial CM nightly from OmarEinea, unfortunately there are a few other issues that have since been fixed (A2DP is a bit dodgy), and it's missing whatever CM features have been implemented in the past couple of months. It shows that WPA2 Enterprise can work though.

I tried out the latest nightly (2015/03/22) earlier today and while an initial connect works, subsequent connections can fail and lock up Settings indefinitely. So I suspect it is an edge case with Lollipop's wifi settings and certain networks, or devices.

Please help: Issues while using Wi-Fi

Let me start by saying that this issue only occurs when I'm using Wi-Fi and none of these exist while using my cell data.
While I am on Wi-Fi I experience issues with the play store such as images not loading even though I can browse and search with no issue. Also, when I click install to download an app it will say downloading for about 2 minutes before it actually starts downloading. While I am using the browser it is almost impossible to get a page to load. If I toggle my Wi-Fi it will temporarily resolve the browser issue, but not my issue with the play store.
The ONLY thing that I have managed to do to resolve all these issues was to use an app on the play store that changes my DNS without needing to be rooted. I believe it works by using a VPN.
A few other things to add... I have 3 other Android phones, 1 Android Tablet, and an Android TV that have absolutely no issues with my Wi-Fi. I have tried changing all kinds of settings on my router, toggling all the different settings in my phone's Advanced Wi-fi settings, Factory reset, and running in safe mode all with no success in fixing my issues. My phone is also fully updated and I just recieved it in the mail yesterday... according to the date that was on my phone, it was built this month.
EDIT: I finally solved the issue by turning off IPv6 on my router and now everything works great. This still doesn't explain why my other devices were fine, BUT I did notice that the "Google Connectivity Services" app wasn't installed on my phone and it never asked me to install it so that may have been the problem all along... I'll have to test it out and see if my device works if I re-enable IPv6.
EDIT 2: I turned IPv6 back on and it appears that the Google Connectivity Services app doesn't do anything to fix the issue, though I didn't try restarting my device.
If you connect to a 2.4 GHz network, do you have the same issues? Others are having wifi issues too, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/wifi-issues-htc-10-weak-signal-fail-t3368165
I've noticed that 2.4 is more consistent (but obviously slower) than 5 GHz.
2.4: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByvK5ngdexuyMzZDMF93dWh4OUE
5: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByvK5ngdexuySGZNblhkWEFRTUk
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByvK5ngdexuybHVBcFA3bHRDckU
There's always a dip, so it probably stops transferring any data for part of the test. This doesn't happen on any other devices, and nothing else is using bandwidth.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that it happens on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz.
Sounds you might have DNS issues at home. Have you tried it on some other network? I know it's a bit weird, but I have seen similar problems which were related to DNS (perhaps buggy router firmware?). to your case.

Wifi issues

The wifi works fine for a while and then just dies. The wifi icon is still in the statusbar but no matter what app I open that uses the internet connection, nothing will ever load and Whatsapp messages will not be sent. When I disable wifi and re-enable it, there's a ! next to the wifi signal bar stating there's no internet connection and of course, none of my internet dependant apps work still. I have to reboot my phone (shut it down and turn it back on; apparently they never thought of adding a restart option) to get my wifi to work properly again. This happened a few days ago as well and I really hope I don't have to reboot my phone every couple of days to get my wifi working. So any suggestions? (No suggestions that include flashing a custom ROM on it or rooting it!!) A factory reset won't help because I bought the phone with Android 6.0.1 already pre-installed. I have the security patch of july 2016 installed.
P.S. My 4g internet works fine.
How about giving rebooting the router a try.

I have a similar error.
That my Nexus partially can not access the Internet via wireless, to which it constantly changes between the wireless and mobile data.
Does this have to do with the "intelligent network change" setting, if so how can you turn off the setting, in marshmallow is this setting not available.
The trouble also occurs with other routers.

I did that the first time it happened since my router tends to freeze once in a while, even with the weekly schueduled reboot. But the thing is, my iPad still had internet while my Nexus didn't so it was definitely on the phone's end. I did a quick Google search and a plethora of other cases popped up so I knew I wasn't the only one. Apparently those wifi issues have been around ever since the update to 6.0.1 and the fact that Google did absolutely NOTHING to fix it those 9 months is just ridiculous!
Hi!
You've got the option to try the Android 7 (Nougat) Developer (now released: Preview 5) version.
Works fine and stable for me, and there is a slight chance that it will help with your problem.
Just join the: android.com/beta
And you can always roll back to your current Android version.
