Hi
I am missing two Things on my mediapad, and that is multiusers (so that it can be the "coffeetable" tablet for the Whole Family) and screen pinning (so that my two year old son doesn't jump out of his games apps by mistake.
From what I am reading here on the forum, the multiuser will not come with the official update (bound for our tablets in the NeXT days/weeks), but with EMUI 4, we will be able to enable it (if rooted).
What about Screen Pidding? Is it already possible to enable this? If not will it be on EMUI 4?
It is a real "drag" that Acer have removed Screen Pinning on the tablet. Why on earth are they doing stuff like that?
(I am not rooted yet, but of course willing to, if it Means I would be able to enable these features.)

Yesterday’s Google event finally brought us the*Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, the*Pixelbook, and the*Home Mini/Max*but even though the Google fervor is now dying down, there’s still much for Android enthusiasts to look forward to in the coming weeks. The mighty*Huawei Mate 10*will soon make its debut on October 16th at a press event in Munich, Germany, and it will be the first public look we will have on Huawei’s upcoming EMUI 6 based on*Android 8.0*Oreo. Ahead of this event, we have obtained access to a*pre-release firmware build of*Android Oreo/EMUI 6 for the*Huawei Mate 9, and there are quite a few interesting changes to note for this upcoming update.
The Huawei Mate 9 was unveiled in*only November of last year*with*top-tier*hardware specifications, so it’s unsurprising to see this device receive an Android Oreo update. There were hints of early work being done on an Android 8.0 update*even as far back as April*of this year, though the build that was leaked at that time was fairly barebones. Now, the build that we have obtained is fully functional and can actually install right on top of MHA-L29C432 (the international Huawei Mate 9 variant) so we did just that to start digging in to what’s new in the EMUI 6 update.
EMUI 6 based on Android Oreo for the Huawei Mate 9
The Things You Would Expect
For starters, let’s get the uninteresting details out of the way. As you would expect, most of the required Android Oreo features are available in this build. That means picture-in-picture mode support, the*strict background app limitations, notification channels, and even that annoying “app is running in the background” notification that you can*thankfully still hide using an app.
We should note that although Huawei implemented notification channels, their notification importance controls is actually a holdover from EMUI 5 and not based on the AOSP version that you may be familiar with. I see this as a boon because it means you don’t need a third-party app to*bring back notification importance controls for apps that don’t target Android Oreo.
EMUI 6 Updates
Here is where things get a little bit more interesting. Overall, I would say there aren’t many changes between EMUI 5 and EMUI 6 on the surface, but there are a few new software additions that should make some people happy.
First up, there is a new “screen resolution” option in display settings. This builds upon EMUI 5’s dynamic screen resolution feature called “smart resolution” (which is also present in EMUI 6). While smart resolution would automatically switch between 720p and 1080p in order to conserve power, this new option allows you to manually change between the two resolutions. This method likely beats using the*ADB*“wm size” command, as that ADB command only adjusts the virtual resolution rather than actually having the display render at a lower resolution.
Next, there is a new button that can be placed on the navigation bar. When the button is enabled, it adds a small arrow to the left side of the navigation bar. Pressing this button will temporarily hide the navigation bar until you swipe up from the bottom. For those of you who like having the stock navigation bar but want to occasionally make use of the full-screen real estate on-demand, this new button beats the ADB command that*permanently hides the navigation bar*or*enables immersive mode. This button isn’t technically new as it is present on the Chinese Huawei Mate 9 firmware, but it’s new to the international variant.
If you aren’t a fan of the software navigation bar, then there is another new navigation option available for you to try. It’s called*navigation dockand what it does is it places a movable floating button that can replace the navigation bar for all back, home, or recent button presses. This is distinct from EMUI 5’s “floating dock” as that feature acted like a pseudo-pie control wherein pressing the button would expand a list of available navigation options. EMUI 6’s navigation dock instead uses gesture controls such as slide up to go home, slide right for recents, and touch to go back.
Lastly, in developer options, there is something strange that we found. The usual*Bluetooth audio codec customization*features are present, as is the ability to switch between various Bluetooth audio codecs—including*aptX*and aptX HD. aptX and aptX HD are proprietary Bluetooth audio codecs that are owned by Qualcomm, so companies that wish to use them must pay licensing fees to Qualcomm.
We’re not sure why Huawei even made it a selectable option as it doesn’t even work here (picking either of these options simply reverts the selection back to SBC), but then again this*is*a pre-release build so it’s possible these options will disappear in the final release. Perhaps with root access and a*Magisk*Module we can enable support for it much like*Google Nexus 6P*owners can.
Under-the-Hood Changes
You might be wondering by this point why we haven’t yet shown a screenshot of the “About Phone” section. That’s because, like every beta/testing build that Huawei releases internally, the software version is changed to mitigate leaks. Fortunately, it’s rather easy to verify the true software build by taking a peek at the build.prop file. In it, we can see that the following:
[ro.build.version.security_patch]: [2017-09-05] [ro.build.version.release]: [8.0.0] [ro.build.version.sdk]: [26]
and from a separate command, we can find the Linux kernel version
Linux version 4.4.23+ ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.9.x 20150123 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 14 04:10:43 CST 2017
So, it’s pretty clear from this information that the Huawei Mate 9 build we have obtained is indeed based on Android 8.0 Oreo (SDK level 26). The*Linux kernel version is 4.4, updated from 4.1 in the Nougat-based EMUI 5 on the Mate 9. Furthermore, the security patch level is September 2017 which means that the Mate 9 is*safe from the Blueborne vulnerability.
Finally, there are a few things we discovered that are especially interesting to Android enthusiasts. First,*Project Treble*support is there. Though the*kernel sources for the Mate 9*have been available for several months, there aren’t any custom AOSP-based ROMs available for the device.*Maybe Project Treble support will change that, maybe not. This is still interesting as it is the*first confirmed device that has Project Treble support even though it did not launch with Android Oreo.
Last but not least, here’s a thing that nobody expected to happen:*Substratum*support in EMUI. Yes,*Substratum themes work on EMUI 6. This is all thanks to the Overlay Manager Service (OMS) commits that Sony made to AOSP that have finally made their way in a fully working state in Android Oreo. It’s thanks to this that Google Nexus and Pixel users are able to*enjoy full custom theme support*using the*Andromeda add-on for Substratum. We tested both the*command line interface*as well as a*dark theme*in certain apps and can confirm it does indeed work.
Substratum support may not seem as interesting at first glance since Huawei already has its own theme engine, but it should be noted that Substratum will allow you to theme more than just system applications as can be seen in the above screenshot of the Google Messenger application.
That’s all we’ve discovered in this internal, beta build of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Huawei Mate 9. Stay tuned to the XDA Portal as we have more to share about upcoming Huawei and Honor devices. The best way to follow the Portal is by installing the*XDA Labs*application!
The firmware was provided for me to install on my Huawei Mate 9 by*FunkyHuawei.club, a service which lets you install pre-release Huawei firmwares, recover bricked devices, and rebrand/convert China region phones to international variants. The service will support the Mate 10 upon release.*

I flashed my Xiaomi Mix 2S with Android P developer preview verison the second day after I purchased it, because I am a heavy user of Google apps and I like the clean stock Android ROM (used to own three Nexus phones). Now I am aware that Xiaomi won't provide stock Android Pie ROM, I guess I should starting looking for alternatives (which provide security patches constantly).
When I tried the MIUI Chinese version (I am living in China now), I actually liked its gesture (not the one in stock Android version) and full screen features. Stock Android P/Pie leaves a black strip at the bottom for gesture navigation which doesn't look as pretty as MIUI. And MIUI's gesture (slide from anywhere on the screen) is more convenient in my opinion. So I could change to Android-Pie-based MIUI (international version of course because I want to use Google) after Xiaomi releases it. But my biggest concern is, does the international version also collect and upload user's data like the Chinese version? I try to avoid those kind of apps as much as I can (I only install apps from Play Store) and always disable unnecessary permissions in the apps.
Or, is there any other ROMs (hopefully Android Pie based version would be published quickly) which is suitable for Mix 2S's full display?

here is for the Mix 2, not Mix 2s. But the xiaomi.eu rom has all that you mention (full screen, face unlock), except based on oreo 8.1. Use the "weekly" version.

Sorry, at first Google didn't show Mix 2S sub-forum so I thought there wasn't one for that model. Now I actually see the correct sub-forum, I'll re-post it there.
And did you see my concert on MIUI international version? Do you know if there is any discussion about it? Thank you!

Every ROM ever will grab your data, no matter if China or the US gets it. I can warmly recommend you the official global beta for MIUI 10, I don't like Xiaomi.eu at all. And btw: the Mix 2S will get MIUI with Android P this fall, so you can just wait until it releases officialy!

Well, the thing is US gov doesn't need my data (I am merely a foreign nobady) but C gov wants and might utilize data from all its citiizens. This is not a topic needs to be elaborated here. But my question is, does MIUI global version collect data as its Chinese version sibling, and if so, to what extent?
And when you said Android P for Mix 2S this fall, you mean the Android P based MIUI 10, right? Because I read that the stock Android P developer preview version was only a one-time thing and Xiaomi won't provide stock ROM in the future. In general I don't dislike MIUI, it's a solid ROM, probably among the top 3 best ROMs I have ever used. I just have this concern that I mentioned.
And my other question is, if I don't choose the MIUI, is there any other ROM, which explore the feature of full screen of MIX 2S (and I'd like it to be Android Pie based)?

Yes it will be MIUI-based and only MIUI ROMs have those gestures. And I think that the Global version collects little to no data, as there would be a huge public outcry if the Global version collected data and that would probably damage their international reputation a lot, which all chinese companies fear AND the chinese govt fear.

 there's no such thing as a rom or smart device that doesn't collect your data. Are you a spy or something, what data could you possibly have in your device that you have to keep safe? Do you also wear tinfoil hats and cover your phone's cameras with tape?

I don't have an answer to your main question but I'm curious about your paranoia regarding the Chinese rom. I've been using that rom from day one and according to the Spy Monitor app no data is being sent to any Chinese servers. My Xiaomi Services Framework is connected to a server in Canada. Having said that I've disabled or uninstalled all the Chinese apps and I don't use a Xiaomi account at all. Phone is stock.

Thank you for your info, it's exactly what I was asking for. And yeah it may be paranoia but I'd say China is not the least data collecting/abusing country. Let's say a file cloud app asks for the phone identity permission (and the phone number can't be annyonymous because burner phone is not allowed here), or a restaurant advisor app wants to read your calendar. It's more difficult to identify this kind of abusing for the ROM producer than the app developer, because the ROM indeed needs to collect and upload some data, and it's hard to tell the content of the data being sent.

Echoing previous posts, you're being overly paranoid. Miui allows you to choose every permission and also allows you to block internet access for all apps. As for what the rom developer uploads you're at their mercy but that' will always be the case if you want updates and security patches. Given the popularity of miui I've never heard of anything untoward hidden in the rom. To sum it up, you want a smartphone with the usability of a feature phone.
Hi Guys,
This thread is made to improve and get the best overall experience from this device since it's the best android phone of 2019
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GUIDE: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BEST ROM: For the best smoothest experience i HIGHLY RECCOMEND to all the LATEST WW ROM! Why i reverted back to ww?
Simply because of better google integration, minimal stock UI, sometimes faster app launch and installation( because there are no installation scanner like cn roms),full language support and working notification/youtube on lockscreen! I fixed the higher latency by changing launcher and for better performance and fps on games, ENABLED X MODE! You can enable it with notification toogle!
CPL LAUNCHER: The best stock feeling launcher ever made, smoother than NOVA! Based on pure AOSP code, it's the customized pixel launcher.
If you want a costant buttery smooth animation like IOS , select the ZOOM animation because the stock animation is too much fast and not costant at 120fps . New chinese updates don't allow you to change launcher!! GLOBAL ROM fix this problem!
# Make sure before disable the launcher to have already an installed launcher! Disable both asus launcher and armory gate, however you will face ui crashes!!!
#When you use a third party launcher and you DISABLE with a ROOT APP cn launcher and armory gate , you will have the OREO multitasking back!!! Amazing since it's fast, stock and buttery smooth. PIE asus multitasking is glitchy and unresponsive sometimes. (RECCOMENDED)!
link for disable applications: https://apkpure.com/it/disable-application-root/com.iamaner.oneclickfreeze
DARK 120HZ CHROME: The stock chrome support both dark mode and 120hz. Don't forget to NEVER UPDATE chrome or you will get back to 60hz locked. I notices that the famous " 120hz FLASHES " are caused by chrome 60hz and when you go home the UI bumps to 120hz and causes the flashes!!!! it's fixed by using 120hz chrome and 120hz for all system!!!
To enable dark MODE: go on chrome, type chrome://flags and search dark UI . ENABLE that and reboot chrome. Close it from multitasking and open it again. Now on chrome setting you can enable DARK MODE!!!
BLACK THEME/FIX THEMES: Use the CLASSIC black theme to have a stock user interface and save battery life . In cpl launcher, use black theme enabled for app and menu. I reccomend starless amoled wallpaper app for background. it' s a cool app with wallpaper motion scrolling inbuild to avoid static image. To fix themes on WW rom, you need root: use file explorer, navigate to vendor, factory,COUNTRY. Open that file and change from CN to WW. Now go on system/etc/Asusthemes/themes and delete the "HIDDEN" file. Reboot!
BLACK GBOARD: Go on google keyboard setting and set black theme to save battery life and avoid burn in!
X MODE: X mode for overall usage will ramp up the frequencies of all cluster to 1200/1300 mhz and help smoothness a lot ( no dropped frames in general) but with high cpu usage, battery may suffer and drain little bit faster ! i put some images attachment below. The first image is with X mode enabled, the second disabled. I reccomend to ENABLE it. Don't worry for battery, you have a 6000mah and it didn't drain too much. This frequency is used by most oem to implement TOUCHBOOST and make the UI smoother. Costant frequency fix scrolling lag and responsivness. You will have a costant 120hz experience. BYE BYE iphone
ROOT/UPDATE STATUS: There is a telegram group with some updates regarding firmware like the 21 images or RAW files. For root you can download the image from asus website and extract with payload dumper in order to access to boot.img , so you can patch it with magisk. Right now i reccomend to all to stay to latest WW rom for reason written before!
From my experience, this phone will receive android 10 maximum and after Asus will stop the updates and only release security patches. This is the history of gaming phones, but in my opinion stay to stock android 9 firmware is the best option if you want the best performance. The stock initial firmware will be always the FASTEST: try to compare an iphone 6 with ios 8 an another with ios 12. You will notice the difference in day to day usage!
GCAM: Google camera is available on telegram group but still in beta. On the latest beta version everything work fine except slowmotion
If you want to enjoy to telegram group, there are also available firmware updates,themes...
this is the link: https://t.me/rogphonevietnam2
DEBLOAT: You can easily remove lots of system apps with root like gpay, gfilm, gmusic( you can reistall from playsore if you need) and consume less ram, in order to get a clean stock user interface ! i HIGHLY RECCOMEND to use black youtube vanced to avoid burn in and save battery!
USEFUL TIPS AND TWEAKS:
lower the brightness as much as possible, keep autobrighness ON and 15 sec timeout to avoid burn-in. 120hz help to refresh pixels quickly!
change wallpaper sometimes to avoid static images retention and use GESTURES! Use full immersive mode to avoid navbar and status bar BURN-IN!
use vibration strenght maximum at 75% for every section
for the best audio experience i highly reccomend ROCK/POP PROFILE with +12 bass and +5 high notes
PROTECT YOUR PHONE WITH SHOCKPROOF CASE, TEMPERED GLASS AND TRASPARENT PLASTIC ADHESIVE on backlight logo since if you broke/scratch the phone you must send to china for repair or asus center
Thank you, have a nice day!

for now i didnt tried yet.. more locale 2 and all other langauges apps translate 80/85 % of all system
its impossible to translate 100% system unless you have a global rom
for my is more than enough because i use english and italian
one thing that i notice
with updates of china it s impossible to change launcher or remove it without facing ui crashes
the first cn rom didnt have this problem.. asus want cn rom remain with cn apps and launcher
ww probably will be a better solution

Man 15 second screen timeout, that's gotta be some sorta joke.
Mankind created tools to serve him, not for him to serve the tool. 15 second timeout seems like me serving the tool.. I use 2 minute on my current phone but I feel like I could tolerate 1 minute even though it would still annoy me knowing that I changed my will to "serve" the tool
Feel me?

this can help you to avoid burn in, it' s your choice
#update 1
-the 28/8 chinese rom is the latest update that allow you to disable china launcher and replace with third party launchers!!! It s stable fast and smooth. No bugs for now. i reccomend this version!
-On WW rom armory gate is connected to this launcher, if you disable you ll face ui crashes. And if you open armory gate it will restore stock lancher on ww rom
-injustice 2 on ww or cn for some people stuck at 100% loading screen. Tried all, even unistalling and remove google account. NOTHING! But i fixed with this trick:
you need root. factory reset the device, create an obb folder and put data and apk inside. install it.. the game will work for now, so exit from the game and backup it with lucky patcher!! THIS BACKUP WILL FIX THE GAME STARTING FOREVER if you face stucking after rebooting/lost obb folder for some reason/logging with google or update the game!!
This thread looks very complete and with great tips and tricks. I'm bookmarking it for when I receive my phone. I specifically asked the seller to keep the CN rom on it as I understand it can be switched to english. I don't mind some chinese characters, plus I rock a second phone so if need be, I'll Google Translate on the fly the first few times.
Anyway, thanks a bunch for all this precious info!

Would you be so kind to benchmark it and share with us the screenshots of the writing and reading speeds? Thanks anyways!

Here you go (X Mode Off)
From another benchmark app"Cross Platform Disk Test", more detailed( X Mode Off)
From another benchmark app"Cross Platform Disk Test", more detailed(X Mode On). The results seem worse with X mode On, weird!
Hi All
I have ordered Poco M2 pro recently (6/64) at a pre-exchange price of 12339 INR (Post exchange 11339)
I have the option to order Redmi Note 9 Pro Max (6/64) at approx. 12610 INR (Same phone not available for exchange here)
Two main questions and opinions I need from you please:
1) How much better is the Redmi note 9 pro max camera compared to Poco M2 pro? Is it worth spending extra for Redmi Note 9 pro max over Poco M2 pro?
2) Although, noone is mentioned it specifically, looking at some of the videos in youtube of Redmi Note 9 pro max post MiUI 12 update, it seems it retains the Mi dialer and messaging app. Is it correct or it also loses these and gets the google dialer and messaging apps? I guess Poco gets updated to google dialer and messaging apps. Please clarify on this. It is important for me to be able to use Mi dialer and messaging apps.
I am not much concerned about ads as I will anyway debloat both using MIUI debloater and disable all ads.
Please help decide which one I should go for.
Any other difference or something which I should consider?
Also, is there a known reliable way to install the Mi dialer and messaging apps on Poco M2 pro without rooting?
My device is updated to miui 12 and i don't think its on Google's dialer and message app..
Why it'll update to google dialer?? When it has its own OS..
Check SS below poco m2 pro
Probably you are not aware that all xiaomi, redmi, realme, oneplus new devices are coming with google dialer and messaging apps instead of their own dialers and messaging apps to comply with some european regulations. Only some country specific roms like that of indonesia retain miui dialer and messaging apps. Xiaomi has officially confirmed this will continue in future also. I saw review videos of poco m2 pro miui 12 update on youtube and the dialer and messaging apps have changed to google after the update.
You are using the stock rom or any custom miui rom? @abhi.s4u

Yes. Thanks for clarifying. Good to know m2 pro is not losing mi dialer. Recently launched poco x3 comes with google dialer in Indian also.
One more question. How is the speaker and headset audio quality. Heard some bad reviews about audio quality of m2 pro.
Neither its bad nor its good.. in the budget its okey..
One or two times i face earfone jack issue i mean sound didn't come in the earfone when plugged in..
Well its just random after restart its okey..
