Please help decide - MiUI dialer and messaging on PM2pro vs RN9proMax - POCO M2 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi All
I have ordered Poco M2 pro recently (6/64) at a pre-exchange price of 12339 INR (Post exchange 11339)
I have the option to order Redmi Note 9 Pro Max (6/64) at approx. 12610 INR (Same phone not available for exchange here)
Two main questions and opinions I need from you please:
1) How much better is the Redmi note 9 pro max camera compared to Poco M2 pro? Is it worth spending extra for Redmi Note 9 pro max over Poco M2 pro?
2) Although, noone is mentioned it specifically, looking at some of the videos in youtube of Redmi Note 9 pro max post MiUI 12 update, it seems it retains the Mi dialer and messaging app. Is it correct or it also loses these and gets the google dialer and messaging apps? I guess Poco gets updated to google dialer and messaging apps. Please clarify on this. It is important for me to be able to use Mi dialer and messaging apps.
I am not much concerned about ads as I will anyway debloat both using MIUI debloater and disable all ads.
Please help decide which one I should go for.
Any other difference or something which I should consider?

Also, is there a known reliable way to install the Mi dialer and messaging apps on Poco M2 pro without rooting?

My device is updated to miui 12 and i don't think its on Google's dialer and message app..
Why it'll update to google dialer?? When it has its own OS..
Check SS below poco m2 pro

Probably you are not aware that all xiaomi, redmi, realme, oneplus new devices are coming with google dialer and messaging apps instead of their own dialers and messaging apps to comply with some european regulations. Only some country specific roms like that of indonesia retain miui dialer and messaging apps. Xiaomi has officially confirmed this will continue in future also. I saw review videos of poco m2 pro miui 12 update on youtube and the dialer and messaging apps have changed to google after the update.
You are using the stock rom or any custom miui rom? @abhi.s4u

Yes. Thanks for clarifying. Good to know m2 pro is not losing mi dialer. Recently launched poco x3 comes with google dialer in Indian also.
One more question. How is the speaker and headset audio quality. Heard some bad reviews about audio quality of m2 pro.

Neither its bad nor its good.. in the budget its okey..
One or two times i face earfone jack issue i mean sound didn't come in the earfone when plugged in..
Well its just random after restart its okey..

no call forwarding option on Google Dialer app (Lineage OS 15.1 + Open Gapps)

there is an option to forward calls entirely or selectively when using most stock Android One / AOSP phone inside the Google dialer app settings itself. (MI A1, A2, Nokia 7 Plus, Zenfone M1)
The option is also available on MIUI, Samsung, Huawei stock dialer apps. But the Google dialer on LineageOS has that option missing.
Any suggestions how to enable "call forwading options" on LineageOS + Open Gapps on Note 5 Pro ?
I suggest you ask ROM specific questions in the LOS thread. If you feel that you found a bug, I encourage to submit report it in the JIRA bugtracker.

This feature is not available in Los or any Google dialer apps. I am using custom Roms from 3 years and I've never seen such options in any Aosp/Google dialer apps.

Yes, call forwarding option within settings is not available when using the Google dialer app on LineageOS. But it is definetly available on Google dialer app settings on AOSP like roms on Moto G5s, Zenfone M1, Oneplus. Android One devices like Mi A1, A2. It is also available on stock MIUI, ColorOS, Funtouch, Touchwiz ROM dialer apps.

It will be very better If some one ports any of those dialers
go to Settings in dialer
then Calling accounts
then select your sim card
then GSM call settings
then call forwarding

Thank you so much!
I was wondering "how come this basic feature is missing!"
And this is bad UX, very disappointed.

RN8 Global Version - Major Shortcoming

The global version I have comes with Google phone app and Google SMS messaging app. Both of these apps as you know do not provide the functionality of the MIUI apps. I have moved from RN4 to RN8 and this is the worst part of this move to be able to settle for less, much less. Same goes for call recording, it's gone.
I have heard that Indian ROM may not have this problem, can anyone from India confirm if this is true?
Also what options do I have to switch the ROM to a version that provides the full MIUI experience not the crappy Google experience.
I'm not sure, but what happens if you reset your phone and at the start configuration you choose "India" or "China" in the country list?

Come on man Google, Facebook, blah blah are already spying on you. Don't worry too much about Chinese spying. MIUI apps really slice up the phone. Especially when themes are changed. Definitely would love a guide to override global rom with Indian rom.
Does ur global vr has 10w charger? Or 18w?

MIUI 12 India released!

Upgraded a while ago, here is my experience so far:
Speed
*Boot time is still around 30 seconds.
*Haven't noticed any lag in opening apps.
UI and smoothness
*Animations feel more fluid, haven't noticed any stutter when leaving animation speed at x1, lowering to 0.5x makes them a bit shaky.
*password lock keyboard has a facelift, now easier to use.
*New control center looks awful IMO, you lose info about how much data you spent today! Also, it feel very iPhonish.
*fingerprints got a bit inaccurate, adding them again fixed the issue.
*Scrolling speed has been reduced, and it feels like a jelly on slow swipes.
*Battery icon is now easier to read imo.
*There's a new gesture for switching apps, but it doesn't work on settings page, to figure!
*call recording is still there.
camera
*feels better overall
*colors are more accurate, and HDR is somewhat better.
*details have improved a bit in macro and ultra wide.
*focus peaking now can be enabled with auto focus which is a plus.
*Macro mode is now hidden inside the hamburger as if they're telling us not to use it much!
Multimedia
*Bluetooth still lags, in MX player you need to use HW+ or SW decoders. Some sources recommend using "the metronome" app from soundbrenner, it has some sort of latency fix inside the settings, but didn't work for me. Got to know my latency is about 250ms, though.
*need someone to confirm YouTube oversharpening issue has been resolved.
Will add more when I encounter anything. And let me know if you have any requests/questions

Actually I don't know and I'm not sure if this is exactly the same update as they're releasing via OTA.

I think this really is a global stable miui 12 rom, because it has fastboot version to flash! I will give it a go right now, as soon as it downloads!
P.S. 2.2. V12.0.2.0. QGGMIXM , this one !

It upgraded without any questions, my bootloader is locked.
Maybe we will see now some stock based miui12 stable roms? Something similiar like xiaomi.eu or miui pro?

But I am still skeptical to the stability of this manual update. Is it a fact that OTA update is usually stable than manual upgrade?

Their advertised privacy stats and notification features don't seem to be there though, security app does have an app behavior tab that can be accessed through activity launcher it has no data and UI has no such feature. Looks like it will be added in future MIUI 12 updates, or is the feature CN only?
@th1nd
I can't really tell, I have a pair of very cheap Bluetooth earbuds. I use wired ones mostly. Also, I have disabled all Google apps.
If it's of any help, latency in games is still around 300-500ms, but it feels a bit better watching content in newpipe and Firefox, latency feels less than 150ms.

Have you used adb to disable MIUI apps? Just tried the security page and I have the same issue. I have disabled many MIUI services. I'll try to reinstall them and see what happens.

Really? 300-500 is a lot! Like very much. I also prefer and use wired only but since I got OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z I refrain from using wired as BT seems more convenient while watching YT content and listening to podcasts. On AAC (Default codec for headset), my latency in YT is around 700-800 ms and even dangerously close to 1s in some instances! Whereas, on SBC (which I have to change everytime in Dev. Settings which is really frustrating), the latency is perfectly fine (less than 70 ms). But whenever I change it to SBC, the video starts playing after like 5s to match the audio afterwards but the audio is instantaneous and is unchanged. So, now I only hope that this terrible issue on default AAC is fixed in MIUI12.

No that dosent seem to be the reason, the "permission stats" and "permission counter" tabs are completely absent from the privacy protections tab. Our tab just has links to android 10 permission groups. If you sideload a version of the "security" app from the china beta rom (there on apkmirror) the stats and permission tabs appear but have no data in them. So thats why I think either these features are yet to be implemented or china only and unfortunately as indian mi community forums are banned there istn't any authoritative answer as to whether they would be implemented.
@Acc1234567
I have security app V4.1.2, sideloaded from apkmirror, not sure if it's global or Chinese.
Official MIUI site mentioned some features would be missing from certain devices (mainly super wallpapers, which aren't a big deal to me) but I don't think they mentioned anything about security app.
This needs a bit of investigation.
I intend to do a factory reset in the upcoming days. Will report if anything changes.
@th1nd
My BT buds are $5 knockoffs, with high latency on even SBC XD
From what I understand, high end BT buds have a low latency mode which trades battery life for lower latency.
As you mentioned, the device is supposed to measure BT latency and sync audio and video accordingly, which is the case on my Samsung tab A running android 8.1. There's even and option for that inside the settings! This should also be the case for offline games. But games played in real-time can only counter this issue by using wired headphones, or BT ones with extremely low latency.
Sorry for the long reply, but one last thing. I noticed that my BT performance improved a bit after disabling MIUI Bluetooth, then clearing the normal Bluetooth app's data.
You'd lose the ability to unlock device with Bluetooth, but everything else seemed to work fine.

This video might be helpful as well, this 8s the second time I hear about the metronome app.
If you're able to test it with your buds it would be great.

When an app gives me failure, I disable it first then uninstall it. This worked even for Google play services. Only app that failed completely was xiaomi's keyboard.
[Edit] now it's carousel and keyboard. At least they can be disabled *shrug*

Mi 10 lite 5g, use of Mi dialer, sms and calendar

Hi,
I just got mi mi 10 lite 5g with global rom. Before I had redmi note 7, wich is a perfect phone made xiaomi. I discovered the awful google dialer , sms and calendar not smart at all compared to whom have been used mi since 7 years with xiaomi phones but also before with others chinese phones capable to receive mi roms ( wonderful Zopo) .
I know that for privacy bla bla , mi has forced to use the google package dialer ...
In the other hand, my redmi note 7 has just been updated to miui 12 and to my surprise the dialer sms and calendar are kept to mi.
It seems that for mi 10 lite 5g version I have to install the indian Rom, could someone clever route me to the miui 12 indian version link ?
In case of available one, do you think that I can update firmware without loosing my existing data , sms, photos etc... ?
Thanks in advance for your hints !
I have the Indian version of Mi 10T Lite, its sold by the name Mi 10i 5G in India.
The Indian version has Google Dialer and messaging app, which I don't like at all.
The Google Dialer comes with Call recording Facility, but it begins with an audio notification "THIS CALL IS NOW BEING RECORDED", and I don't like that at all , I feel it defeats the purpose of call recording in most cases.
Thank you for the reply.
Really disappointed with these google app..
Miui app are much smarter.

It is smarter and able to use recording of call, remembering automatically the used sim for contact call, less clicks and confirmations for call dialer , for sms editing and calendar as well.
Really smarter !
I have using it since more than 6years even i have used mi rom ported on another smartphone device.
When you use it, you will see the difference.

Fair enough, though I don't find anything missing in Google dialer/messages. Call recording is not allowed in my country anyway and I use one SIM only. Any call I make is one or two clicks away. I had been using several SMS apps over the years, but eventually I just settled down with Google messages. Calendar is feature lacking, but for this I have Business calendar app which is miles better than anything stock (be it Google or MIUI). Personally I'm very glad that Xiaomi switched to Google apps and in fact I removed pretty much all remaining MIUI apps from my phone (most of them refuse to launch without accepting Xiaomi data mining anyway).
In each case, Chinese ROM should have all the MIUI apps (or use xiaomi.eu ROM).

Question Poco F3 Dialer/Messages App

Hi,
I have been using Poco F1 since 2018. Now i got my new Poco F3 but i really shocked when i didn't find the Original Poco's dialer/messages App, they're replaced by Google Apps
From my point of view Poco's dialer/messages so much better,
Is there any dialer/messages better than Google Apps?

Messages are definitely better by Google as when you click on "send a message" via the phone dialer, it takes you to messages and shows you previous messages while Mi messages app doesn't. Overall the messages app is better by google.
Phone app however is by far the best on miui. It's smooth, has auto call recording, smaller fonts, caller photo id, etc. Literally everything about the mi dialer is better.
If you want the mi dialer, I suggest you flash Indonesian rom or Xiaomi.eu rom.
