I unlocked the bootloader of my op9rt,, and rooted my phone,, now if i try to update oxygen os to lastest version it fails,, how can i update my oos now? without losing root access and data...
You can try Oxygen Updater app from Playstore.
Also you can use fastboot rom - you will loose data thus way
If you are on Oos11 and want to update to Oos12, take a minute, google "oxygen downgrade" and ask yourself a question " why upgrade"?
unroot

So I'm running OOS 3.2.6. which is rooted. In the software update it shows 3.2.7 (1.3GB) available for download but it also says "Root detected, downloading full upgrade. Note: your device will be unrooted." So if i download and install this will it work ? Also, whats the best way to install official updates on a rooted OOS ?
You need clean install of oxygen before you can update regardless, just have to reflash su again afterwards and any kernels xposed you use.

You can easily install it, but after the download su will be removed, so you will have to reflash it.

I'd recommend flashing stock recovery before downloading the OTA update as twrp "sometimes" fail to flash OTA updates. Also flashing the 1.3 gb full update will remove your root. You'll have to flash supersu again for root. And you'll have to do this everytime an OTA comes.
The best way to install official updates on rooted phone is to download the patch only file for 3.2.7 and flash it via twrp. The patch file will be around 40-50MB and it is available somewhere in the XDA threads. Search for it.

Best way is to download OTA update from oneplus forum instead of complete ROM and just flash update

Haven't tried it before but thanks for letting me know.
Hi,
After running out of patience i unlocked boot loader on my RN 3 unofficially (SD VERSION), and flashed lineage OS, but i did not get VOLTE on it.
To fix that i flashed CM Firmware and VOLTE patch files (Still no VOLTE, ONLY LTE, then i rebooted to the phone, and now the bootloader has locked automatically.
I am able to root into TWRP, but not into EDL. I have an MIUI backup that i took, now that the bootloader is locked, will i be able to restore the backup through TWRP. There is an update of Lineage OS of 19th april, when i click on install it says the phone will reboot to recovery to install, my question is will the update be installed or not since the bootloader is locked, or if i install the update the phone might go into bootloop?? i don't want to take a risk.
Please help me if i should install the updates and whether it is possible to restore backup when the bootloader is locked.
Also, what should be done to get VOLTE Working on the existing ROM, i flashed CM firmware and Volte patch from the link (https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...t/volte-patches-nougat-based-cm-roms-t3509257)
Thank you
I have an important question.
I'm currently in stock 5.0.2, with unlocked bootloader, no custom recovery, and no root.
Now I'm getting this screen in the Update menĂº: "OEM unlock is detected, system will begin downloading the full upgrade package. To ensure your data integrity please perform a backup" (see attached image).
Can anybody confirm if it is safe to update (from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3, in my case) with an unlocked bootloader (with stock recovery, and no root)?
I read in some post of OP5 forums (not 5T) that upgrading from Nougat to Oreo with an open bootloader could result in a bootloop, forcing to "wipe data" for getting the device to boot, and hence losing all data... I know that if I lock the bootloader again, it will wipe my data, and I don't want to.
I also know that a modified system (with custom recovery or root) could result in a bootloop after update, but I want to emphasize that my OP5T has just an unlocked bootloader, but it has stock recovery and it is not rooted.
So, is it possible to update to 5.0.3 with an unlocked bootloader (stock recovery, no root) without any issues or data loss?
The strangest thing is that I hadn't any warning like that when I upgraded from 4.7.6 (Nougat) to 5.0.2 (Oreo)...
Thanks in advance.
I upgraded my phone with a custom recovery installed and had no issues at all, so having the OEM recovery shouldn't give you trouble at all.
The warning is there because 1+ is probably aware that people who unlock their bootloaders do so in order to install custom ROM's and kernels and hence they need a custom recovery installed. That's probably why it downloaded the full size zip instead of the smaller OTA.

Well, thank you for your answer.
Finally, I did the update. It downloaded the full size zip (1.6 GB), and upgraded the device from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3 with no trouble at all. So, at least in my case, having an unlocked bootloader didn't make any problem to update my OP5T.
I have a OnePlus 5T locked and unrooted phone having OxygenOS 5.1.7 installed. I am new to rooting and related kinds of stuff. Can someone help me to give some instructions to install Magisk in my device? I know the below steps, but at the same time, I am having some questions in my mind.
1. Unlock bootloader - I saw some commands here to unlock bootloader - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74504347&postcount=4 - looks like these are outdated, last updated on Dec 2017. Are those work today also?
2. Install TWRP recovery - I heard that, OxygenOS 5.1.7 is having Project Treble supported. Can I use the same TWRP recovery mentioned in the above link?
3. Root using Magisk or SuperSU. What is the difference? What is systemless root? Anyway, I need to install Magisk Manager finally - Please suggest a way.
4. And the last one, How do I unroot my device if something goes wrong? Or is that possible?
5. I don't want to install any custom ROMs, I am fine with OOS.

1. Yes the unlock commands remain the same till date.
2. Use the latest bluspark twrp which has the treble support, link mentioned is fine and if you need the direct link, its here
3. Use the latest Magisk as SU is a dead project now.
4. Whenever you want to unroot just dirty remove/uninstall all the mods, dirty flash the latest stock rom > Factory reset in recovery and lock the bootloader. I did a post here for the 6T and it should work the same way on 5T.
5. You can stay rooted on OOS no need of custom roms any more :good:
Let me know if you want to know anything else, Thanks.
PS: Thread moved to Q&A Section

1. Yes, but your phone will download the whole firmware at each update instead of the ota.
2. Yes
3. Yep you can.
4. Yes of course, but some apps will detect root. So you will have to use Magisk Hide (inside the Magisk Manager) to hide root from these apps.
Note : I didn't use OOS anymore but it seems to me that OOS overwrites root everytime you update, so keep in mind that you will have to reflash it everytime

1- Yes, but you will recieve full sized zip (1.5+)GB automatically in rooted OOS. Incremental small sized ota won't work in case of root, and don't bother with it.
The downside of updating full whole zip is that you will loose root & twrp recovery after the update. So keep in mind, you will re-install both of them later.
2- I haven't tried beta, but i am sure yes
3- any switch between those requires clean flash in TWRP (wiping dalvik cache, cache, data, vendor and system). So, make sure to have backup in safe place.
4- yes, as long as you passed the safety net in Magisk. Magisk has a feature to hide root on certain apps of your choice, so you can use banking apps later
All my magisk installed whether in oos stable or custom roms, passed the safety net out of the box. So I haven't faced issues there.
Hi I have a virgin mobile Moto g6 play. I recently rooted it with magisk and installed twrp. I just got a notification that pie OTA is ready however I know it might brick if I install the OTA. What is the best way to go about installing it. Do I have to manually reflash stock Oreo in order to update or is there another way? Thanks for your help.
Uses the Lenovo Moto Assistant. Remembering that the G6 Play stock rom will be installed on your device. That way, there will be no more root (however you can install later) and the memory will be formatted

Just reflash stock firmware and don't root. You cannot install updates from ota once you root

I just downloaded the full pie firmware from mirrors, flashed with RSDlite (servicefile). Rebooted bootloader, flashed TWRP. Boot to TWRP, flash encryption disabler and magisk.
Still unencrypted, all is well.
Just download the updated firmware from Lolinet and Flash it without erasing data
