Hello, I've spent about the past 5 days trying to figure this out. So, how this started was, a while back when I first got the phone, I wanted 4.4, so I rooted my phone, and tried to flashify a recovery like CWM and TWRP. Both of these failed. I tried many times, and no matter what I tried, flashing always failed. But guess what, my stock recovery was erased in the process. I forgot about it until today, where I found the OTA update to 4.4 was released, and attempted to do it. To my dismay, I forgot I had no recovery mode, and instantly got the "boot certification verify" error screen. Now All I can access is download mode, to my knowledge. So I've been trying to fix this, either by installing stock recovery, or another way to install a custom. All to no avail. When I use the lg flash tool for the stock recovery, it fails at "BIN CRC Check". Every.... Single.... Time. Despite downloading multiple replacement files. I would be perfectly content with installing a customer recovery, but the ways I see require the phone to be on, and use the built in recovery mode. At this point, my phone is bricked, and I am looking for any and all ways to either A) boot back up normally without installing a recovery and fix it later, or B) install a recovery, even if it's the hard way.
Update:
I followed this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
It looked like it was going to work. I am using a Xubuntu virtual machine. I was copying the files over, and every time it finished copying a file, it unmounted and remounted my phone (I don't know if that was suppose to happen, just worth mentioning if it wasn't suppose to). I was super excited to do it. Hard rebooted my phone. And now it's just a blank screen. I have no logo, no error, and no download mode like I had before. Seriously need some help here.
Update#2:
I have the flash tool correctly working. Awesome! But..... I still have no download mode here.... So I can't use the tool....
Lastly, I am aware of the title.... i don't know how that happened. I intended to type "need", but somehow that happened. I do not know how to edit it.
Can you enter recovery?

Ouch bud you are hard bricked pretty much. It sounds to me from what you explained all the partitions are wiped clean. I don't think there is any recovery from that unless you have a nand programmer

Im confused you said you had download mode then didnt? If it works try using the alternate G2 dll named 8974, because the second time I used Flashtool only the alternate dll worked which is weird because just hours earlier I had used the original, the original said wrong model/download failed the second time.

As I explained in my update, the method I used didn't work and had removed all modes I could boot into, including download mode.

Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595
Then use LG Flash Tool, the Verizon guide works for LS980. Except use LS980 dll, and you must use Verizon USB drivers (Not T-Mobile, ATT etc), or Flash Tool wont work.

Damn, not even fastboot? Feel sorry for you.
I want to ask that it hasn't any solutions yet??
I have flash Genisys Rom 2.6.zip than reboot that have a bootloop problem....
Will it be a solutions then?

Yes I flash it back those v20a bootloader, boot and modem after I got into the twrp, then I reboot it, it is stuck on the LG logo screen now...
and now I can't go back to the fastboot mode and the twrp...that 's the problem...
any idea to go back the twrp?
i'm stuck on same thing.
What I've tried.
! flashing back to stock rom using lg flash tool. Crashes at 9%. Tried flashing 20A file not allowed
both adb and fastboot methods don't work as adb doesn't detect phone and fastboot get's stuck on waiting on device
Basically the phone is stuck on boot logo after upgrading to marshmallow which all went fine and phone booted as normal after I then reinstalled the twrp recovery as before so to install supersu after boot that when the problem started. The phone can get into factory reset the two yes methods which I have tried still no luck and I can also get into download mode. basically am I waiting on a update to lg flash tool or have I ducked my phone any help would be appreciated
You probably ****ed the security flag added into marshmallow and it didn't like it one bit, that's why its better the flash newer versions of a rom when you have a recovery then an official ota ,that's where they get ya locked down .is there any devices in the device manager at all? Just checking if its hard bricked.if its labeled as q9xxxx something like that then its definitely hard bricked.like not even a jtag can get er back

No its listed as two different devices as LGE andriodnet serial port com4 and also LGE andriodnet usb modem. I have noticed that if i uninstall these two from within device manager that it then goes back to an lgmobile phone with a i on the phone icon in device manager. I have tried to find the proper driver so to make the computer see the lg phone again without error via extracting driver install exe but no joy it goes back to the above.
I wonder Is it possible to flash the .img files that are boot. system etc using lg flash tool the one with the tot methid via a script and the files I wonder. Or even convert the files needed to do a complete flash of system bootloader etc to bin files so to be read by the lg flash tool used in the tot version. or is there any other software that can convert kdz to bin.

I think this is impossible to flash the .img files that are boot. Because we cannot to go into the fastboot mode.

But it seem a little bit expensive....:cyclops:
Same
I had the same problem. They recently reposted the download to a fixed 2.6 so try to redownload from the genesys post. Also, flash the marshmallow kernel and supersu right after, then followed by genesys theme if you choose to use.
Retry and retry to start twrp at boot with sleep button and volume down button.... I had the same problem with marshmallow because i forgot to flash v20a bootloader, and i had finally access to twrp after a lot of times...

Howdy all, hadn't done rooting/etc in a long time as my past several phones didn't have much support for them but got the LG G8 and was excited to possibly root it and also install a custom rom. Went with Arrow OS which seemed to run fine and I decided I wanted to get TWRP as a custom recovery instead of the one that comes with ARROW OS. I flashed it but now it get stuck on fastboot and constantly loops to it (and no longer shows the boot a/b.... which probably isn't a good sign). After leaving it alone for some time, I booted it up and now it gets beyond the the fastboot loop but I can either try to boot it up which only gets me the code red warning or go to download mode. I tried to use LG Bridge and download mode on my phone but the Bridge software doesn't detect the phone.
I realize some of this is probably because of my stupidity and I should've been more careful but anyone got any ideas on what could be done to get the phone back to a stable working state so that it can function again? I know there are some more "difficulties" because of the boot a/b partitions and having to handle that stuff properly. If it isn't possible, that sucks I guess but anyone who wants to chime in - thank you for your help!

Sounds like you might just need to reverse what you did to try to get twrp. If you have the boot partition for Arrow flash that back, if you don't have it should be pretty easy to get it from someone.
If that doesn't work can always use qfil and flash the necessary partitions to get LGUP to work, then flash or crossflash to a kdz and start again with stock.
You're in good company. I went down the same path and have become adept at repeatedly bricking and un-bricking my G8. (LM-G820QM5) I picked up 2 tidbits of info that have been helpful. The first is that my G8 ThinQ will not boot Android when the engineering abl_a.bin has been flashed on to it to enable fastboot. Sure it will fastboot, and go into EDL or download mode, but in order to boot the OS, I have to put the normal abl_a.bin and abl_b.bin back.
The second lesson I learned the hard way is that sometime LGUP fails to flash when the phone is in download mode. I was searching around XDA and came across a very helpful post from starlyn1232. They posted a command line utility that has been successful in un-bricking my G8 when LGUP failed.
I downloaded the appropriate kdz from lg-firmwares.com and the starlyn1232's utility from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/lgup-flash-utility-based-on-lgup-1-16-cmd-and-lgup-1-17-lgup_common-dll.4112121/
Well thankfully, i still had the original files from the unlocking thread in this forum and I also apparently did make a backup of my files right before I installed TWRP 3.4 or whatever and was able to get my phone working again - which is awesome! Also, what's the best way to back up everything on the phone (or at least the essentials) in case of flashing situations like this? I in the past would just use TWRP to do a backup/restore but since I flashed ARROWOS and it has its own recovery and doesn't seem to have a backup option - asking if any one has a recommendation. Thanks!

I would highly recommend looking at bkerler edl utilities. You can easily find his git page which has the download option for an iso linux boot which has everything installed.
It's a bit involved / complicated figuring out the command line interface, but once done you can backup everything and it will create the xml files needed to reload it.
I would suggest this for everyone but especially for those with sprint or att devices, as there is no kdz available for them.
I've recovered from various issues too many times to count with backups I've made for v40, v35, and now G8 (2 of them).
cheers
Could you pass the tutorial on how to install TWRP?

So the rawprogram xml will be for ea lun, and it will vary by which rom you're trying to flash, it will also vary by segment starting positions for the partitions. IE, there is no generic version of it.
2nd, you don't need a patch xml, just click cancel or skip for that entry. Note; the rawprogram xml is usually generated when a backup of the binaries is made, and it will be for that specific backup.
Hello there sorry to pop in unannounced I would like to interject briefly and please pardon my ignorance I'm still a noob.
I have a similar issue, but I'm a little bit confused as to what I should do. In my Case i have a SOFT brick.
(G8 ThinQ VERIZON LM-G820UM (Model) ---- G820UM20j (Software)).
I unlocked the bootloader and rooted with magisk successfully, Still running STOCK OS
Then I Flashed TWRP.zip and some version of Magisk.zip with the magisk app, Then I Rebooted to Recovery.
Inside TWRP i Wiped, Format and then I flashed Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_03.04.2020.zip
This process Finished without any errors, however, after I rebooted i now cannot go past the Verizon Logo and it's stuck there.
Fortunately, I have All the Original files backed up (abl_a.bin, abl_b.bin, boot_a.bin, boot_b.bin)
And TWRP also managed to create a Backup beforehand.
I can go easily into EDL mode and i also have the engineering abl_a file on hand.
i can also get to the built-in Stock factory reset / safe mode but I'm unsure if I should use it.
So my question is if i would be correct in loading ALL of the original Files using QFIL, or only the boot_a boot_b files ?
or if i should do something else like getting the firmware in my case?
thank you for your time in advance.

Hi Guys,
I hope every one is doing well. I have been on the latest Paranoid Android Sapphire Beta 1 build for the last few days. I have been liking the rom so far but I would need to go back to stock OOS for now. Aside from using MSM tool is there another way to flash back stock OOS zips via recovery? I tried sideloading via AOSPA's recovery but it failed (no worries, as I am still able to boot to AOSPA just fine).
Kind regards!

Many thanks! I was having issues downloading the stock firmware files needed for the MSM tool. I do have the downgrade zip and ota signed zip for my model, but extracting with payload dumper gives me only 7 image files so I think it's incomplete, and I would still need to download the full firmware files to be able to flash via fastboot.
If you try using fastboot to downgrade, you're very likely going to brick and have to use the MSM anyway.

I was able to flash to oos11 using twrp. Well, I was on crdroid and there are custom ROMs that require oos12 before It will work. So I went crdroid 8.6 to oos11 to oos 12 and then lineage 19
Well it was a ride for me lol. Took me a few hours to realize I can gain fastboot access via long pressing power button+volume up and volume down altogether. I was then able to reflash the modded magisk boot image to regain access to AOSPA.
The fun part came after trying to flash back to stock via MSM. First I figured out that instead of using the "vol up+vol- button approach then connect usb" way of trying to get MSM tool to connect to the EDL mode of the phone, an easier method is to use "ADB reboot edl" command.
Now as I previously used global stock OOS, I mistakenly used the MSM tool for the global region. However, this got me in a SHA-256 mismatch in the flashing process, causing a flash error which got me back to getting stuck at the bootloader again. Turns out the global MSM tool does not work for LE2120 model.
So at this point I had 2 options - either find a MSM tool that works, or try flashing back to stock via fastboot. The fastboot way would have worked but I ran into a problem - you have to flash to .img files partly via fastboot, then partly via fastbootd. And when on fastbootd my phone is not recognized by the PC (this is why trying to flash back AOSPA also failed, it can't continue the fastbootd part of the install as for some reason my pc loses connection with the phone on fastbootd).
My saving grace was I found out that for LE2120, the EU version of the MSM tool works. So long-story short I got back to stock OOS 12 again. It was a fun yet nerve wracking experience, and I learned a lot.
So the lesson of the story is, for anyone tinkering with this device, to learn the basics, from knowing your correct model number, knowing the proper button combinations to boot to fastboot/edl/recovery, knowing which tools to use, to knowing how to setup/troubleshoot your pc to ensure the phone communicates properly at every step!
I need to install Lineage OS on this phone.
After multiple tries several months apart, I am still not in success.
Followed all internet tutorials and sites.
I don't want to install any G apps or any special root-things like magdisk..
I only want pure Lineage OS without any extra applications.
Way I tried and probably ended up like before:
Get newest official samsung ROM installed, update, enable usb debigging and oem, go download mode and go factory reset, get back in, sign in to wifi again, again enable develop. settings and usb debugging, go into download mode, take odin and install through the AP option the TWRP now that the phone is in download mode a 3rd time, supposed to be possible now with OEM unlock.
Most of the names on the way I don't understand, just follow tutorials.
I need to get to TWRP to then finally, as used to always, install Lineage from zip.
But I never get rebooted into TWRP recovery, just forver the samsung one, even when firmware is no longer there - after flashing in ap option the twrp tar again it never boots into TWRP afterwards.
Is there something else i must do? is not getting into oem unlock and flashing TWRP enough to get there?
And after, will the zip install finaly get me to have lineage installed?
Did you try the official guide?

I hope I picked the right phones, otherwise check devices overview.

It's because of this new double recovery scheme:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/help-understanding-a-b-partitions.3748003/post-75545902
https://source.android.com/docs/core/ota/ab

EOD: It's safer, updating happens in the background, then just a quick reboot et voila.

Yes, it's still there but perhaps you post a link to your guide (or ask there). To me it seems you had TWRP just in your RAM but not your phone?
As for me, I finally gave up on TWRP and use the "crappy" LOS recovery Have way more important things to waste my time on...
PS: Sorry to bring such "bad" news, wasn't too happy with that change myself
Great, I finaly made it work.
I followed the site with turotial on installation and did not try TWRP
First I had to install samsung ROM again
It turned out to still stay unlocked so went straight to download mode and this time flashed Lineage recovery sucesfuly with heimdall
Then it booted up and a half samsung sreen made it seem like there is trouble
but Lineage recovery launched
The adb load from PC did not work so i chose to instal zip from SD even there
Now Lineage is installed
Still don't know how much is randomness, luck and so on
But it's done and hopefuly repeatable
