I have a rooted A52S 5G, can I install the new update through Odin, and if so will it wipe everything in my phone? Also what's a good way to backup everything, I'm talking about the apps and modifications I have installed already. Thanks in advance!

You can install the update with odin. As for backup, I use smartswitch. When I install any updates I start from scratch. I use the non_home csc to ensure it's a clean install. You may try the home_csc that will leave your phone as is as far as any apps go but you'll probably have to re-root the phone anyways. You may have minor issues as well...

Yeah, a clean installation is what I'm after as well.
So if I understood correctly, I'll just update like you do to a clean install, then root again and restore backup using smartswitch and that's it?

Perfect, should I use the same method I did last time with same magisk versions and all that? I still have April's build and rooted with Arobase's guide (I can't find it here anymore though). Thanks for all the help nonetheless!

I never did clean so many months now. I follow the procedure for rooting and i update without any problems.

No drop in battery life here, at all. No drop in SOT, still very good.

I'm seeing atleast 20-30% less SOT in this update. Also some apps started crashing unexpectedly, I get a dialog box saying a specific app has crashed. Haven't happened before.

Working great for me as DD. Battery life is better than 6.x, but I'd expect that it'd be a little better anyway after a full wipe & fresh install.

I was on the PK1 yesterday, then I ODIN'd to PL1 (using Norbarb's instuctions and wiped my device in the process).
I then realized that since the device was already wiped, I simply ADB directly to QC5 (as it was already 1.5GB in size and should already contain the previous updates).
Battery life is now horrible, although I'm still trying to get used to the new features by turning off / disabling what I don't need. The update is worth it. as the theme makes me "feel" as though I got a new device. The touchwiz additions replace quite a number of third party apps that I'd have downloaded separately otherwise.

As you probably did, I'm using a non-rooted AT&T Galaxy Note 5 (N920A}. I'm familiar enough with ODIN to know that I'll probably mess it up the first try... And spend a lot of time figuring out my mistakes.
Did you have any difficulty with the update process?

The only problem I encountered was the need to perform the large address aware fix to adb so it would sideload the S4CQB2-to-U4EQC5.zip file for me, otherwise it went fine. Just takes time. I went step by step after first backing all my stuff up. I was on an older MM release that had not been patched with any of the last 3 or 4 security patches, so I began with a complete wipe and ODIN of CPK1. Then sideloaded the rest, one at a time and switching USB debug on each time before the next update: CPK1-to-PL1, then PL1-to-CQA1, then CQA1-to-CQB2, then the final S4CQB2-to-U4EQC5. About 90 minutes maybe, a little less? I can't recall, but wasn't a big deal. It took Google longer to load my 180 apps back on at the end LOL. All the tips (like the large address fix) are in the other thread - just read it over before starting. I see we have a new update too to version QC6.... I may flash that or wait another week or two to see if more updates come out. Honestly it is running just great and I have no issues. Snappy. HTH
I will post in Nougat update thread new update to 4CQB2 to 4EQC6 firmware. Please let me know there if you want 4CQA1 to 4EQC6 update also.

ADB sideload always wipes after it completes
There is an app named Flashify which does not wipe after applying updates but that only works on rooted phones (and you cant root the AT&T Note 5)
Therefore no, there is (currently) no way to prevent sideload wipe
Thank you very much Dezborders!

Play Store FC trying to buy app

Okay I have two pixels. One with magisk and one running SuperSU with suhide, both pass safety net. Both on Oreo. I'm trying to buy a substratum theme in the Play Store everytime I enter my password to buy it if force closes on either phone. Anyone else have this issue I imagine it still detects the root, but I'm not sure I was hoping somebody new a workaround. Both pixels are on Android o.
Edit. I did try clearing cache and data. I am certified

I have this same issue. However, I am stock unrooted. Somebody in the Pixel forum was having the same issue. His problem was solved by reflashing the full Oreo image. A factory reset did not fix it. I'm planning to reflash the Oreo image to both partitions tomorrow to see if it fixes the problem.

Shield Oreo

It's possible that it comes today/tomorrow at some point!!

Yes, major speculating here, but usually Nvidia is very very quick with updates. SO let's all hope and pray. This COULD also be the Nvidia Spot announcement/availability.
Tomorrow 29th or today 28th. Their message is very cryptic. Google Assistant was just released for Nvidia Shield TV! Not Oreo unless they have their own announcement since Assistant one was by Google
Apparently some people are updating to Oreo already. But it looks like US only. :crying:

Also...from what I understand this is Nvidia Experience 6 and not Oreo. The new launcher is not yet here for the shield.

Just got the update. But it failed to install. It downloads the update and restarts the shield, but never finishes the install. Stops at about 20% on the Android System Update Screen then restarts back to the home screen asking if I want to install the Experience 6.0 update. Is it because I'm rooted? I don't have TWRP installed but I do have superuser installed....Tried 3 times.

Got #root#?!
If so, well there's your problem. You can NOT update in the conventional way once your rooted. In short you'll have to first download, and use fastboot, to flash the last 5.0.x Recovery For (Chiefly Recovery, System, and Vendor), and then most likely as not do a full system reset. Which if your unfortunate to be doing this on a Pro. Will mean about roughly 2.5h's+ of downtime. Before you'll then need to worry about the latest Update.
Unfortunately I keep telling myself to never root the damned thing again. 'Cause this IS a huge PitA! but, somehow I never learn.

Alas One does NOT just remove root on the Shield. And, sadly 'cause of it. The only way I know of to be rid of it is flashing a new (Clean Recovery OS), and then factory resetting it fresh for the "New OS" to actually get written. Otherwise root seem to longer like a bad smell on the Shield.
And, now an aside...
Where is all this scuttlebutt about Oreo (Cookie), coming from?
Having done the above... (Sigh again!) I just finished wrapping up that part of the Install. When it occurred to me to check the Version... Which is still Android 7 (e.g. Nougat), so unless someones getting something I'm not. Then, this is not the Chocolate Wafer Cookie your looking for....
Which begs a different question. Why are they calling this "Experience 6..x", and not 5.x.x?

I don't know about any Oreo update, but I updated to the new release without doing any data reset. Simply boot to fastboot and flash the downloaded system.img, boot.img, and recovery.img. No need to clear data. Then in the system you can install the OTA as normal and re-root using TWRP and Magisk/SuperSu.

Downgrading has a risk of data loss
I am assuming that that the jew update may have different pda and csc in which case you might get OTA update

I also updated to 10. main issues was battery drain, like titanic. Rolled back with Odin to 9. It is super now, batter life is awesome on 9.

There are apps that can backup your contacts and messages and call logs without root.
Use those
Copy entire internal storage to external SD card. This way you can save your games and app data.after rolling back simply reinstall those apps and repaste the copied data back to internal storage and most of your apps would work flawlessly.
You can backup whatsapp on Google drive and restore from there.
For rolling back use Odin to flash stock android 9.
It is a but of Hassle but according to many users, it's worth it

Update failed - what now?

Hello community,
I have a Oneplus 8 pro laying around with unlocked bootloader, Magisk, (possibly TWRP), and a firmware which was one of the first in around may 2020.
The issue is, I want to use this phone now, but I cannot update it throught the full package of OxygenOS updater. It gives "update failed" at the 0% mark. It seems I cannot update through the conventional way. After some thinking, it might be unsuccessful as I am not even sure what firmware it runs.
The next step I wanted to take was go back to stock through the TWRP backup that was made in june 2020 (I'm not sure if it even has this backup), yet I now read it is unrecommended to use TWRP. I am not even sure if TWRP was working at that time (where would the backup be located?).
And finally I read OxygenOS 12 might ruin the phone if things are not done right due to firmware mix-up in case of the memory.
What now? Can anyone help me with some steps and advice to get the phone to at least the latest software, and preferably working with Magisk (included call recorder)?
Thanks in advance.
If your OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be!!! The age is irrelevant if Android 9 or higher.
Don't fix it if it's not broken... if you value your time and device functionality.

All works like a charm currently, except that VoWIFI tends to fail and not reconnect. Any ideas on that?
And what about security patches?
Thanks

Let me put it this way, this heavily used stock N10+ hasn't been updated in over 3 years, still running on Pie.
Current load is over 2.5 yo, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
Security simply isn't a issue. Nothing's got through with only some simple protocols being used to secure it. One is wifi, disabled, I never use it. This what Android is capable of...

Sounds good.
What if someone really requires to have Wifi working because they have zero reception inside?

You'll have to work that out. For me wifi is a hugh security risk. Since I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan wifi is irrelevant.
You could use a signal booster...

Not legal in every country sadly.
Back to my first question, do you have any steps to get back to stock if I ever wanted to?
You could use the MSM tool and factory reset it back to OOS10 and from there on update it OTA.
