Question Oneplus 9 Pro T-mobile US Sim Unlock - OnePlus 9 Pro

I bought an OP9Pro Tmobile variant this week, and I want to flash another custom ROM than OOS, but I realized that I need to unlock the sim to unlock the bootloader. Is there eligibility or a requirement to unlock the network sim?
If it's too long I'm planning to return it.

1. Pay off device if it isn't already or convince someone on TMO chat to perm sim unlock you
2. Get your unlock code from bootloader and send into oneplus and wait about 7 to 14 days to get the unlock.bin file
3. Unlock device once you get the bin file
4. Flash a custom rom
Edit: this will always be like that when buying a device from TMO

Have you tried going into bootloader and unlocking. I could be wrong but since you bought it from the OnePlus store you shouldn't have to go through the unlock.bin process

No, there is not. You must have T-Mobile postpaid for 45 days to unlock the SIM. You can unlock the bootloader without having the SIM unlocked but it will be stuck a T-Mobile only phone if you do that and don't activate it on T-Mobile.

As long as you have T-Mobile postpaid. They don't, they have a T-Mobile MVNO. Even with postpaid, it's very rare that you can get them to unlock the phone if you're a new customer and it hasn't been at least a month.

You can definitely unlock the bootloader and flash stuff without the sim being unlocked but I'm not sure if that helps you in this case. What mvno is it?
For what it's worth, I bought mine a week ago. On the first day, I talked to 6 support agents. Some on the phone, some in chat, some on twitter @tmobilehelp.
If you insist you can have it unlocked because you bought it outright and own the device, need to unlock the bootloader for development, someone will try to help.
I had two agents who tried to unlock it for me but said they can't because the IMEI starts with 99 and tmobile devices are typically 35. They said they escalated it and I should be able to unlock within 48 hours.
One twitter agent asked me for receipt to submit with the request so it's not denied.
I'm currently on a sim locked eu-flashed le2127. I plan to flash back to stock tmo this weekend. I was waiting for my cust-unlock token from OnePlus.
I am going to flash stock tmo, use One+_TooL to turn on oem unlock in settings, flash cust-unlock.bin to unlock bootloader and root. Then I am going to attempt the sim unlock after root, to see if I can see anything we may be able to use later for self unlocking

I was able to get unlocked today.
I got a reply from @tmobilehelp on Twitter saying "we escalated the request to the unlock team. They received an error during unlock. You have to talk to the manufacturer". Of course OnePlus says TMobile will have to unlock the phone (but OnePlus is supposed to reach out tomorrow, the guy said he would check into other methods for me to bypass TMobile. Not expecting anything)
Then I asked her if she could try to submit it again because I was on the network now and wasn't on the network the first time I asked (I have an active account but my sim wasn't in the 9 Pro).
She asked me for a full receipt instead of my edited receipt so she could submit it again showing proof I own the phone fully.
While I was getting that documentation ready, she flagged me down in a Twitter DM to say:
"Upon further investigation into your IMEI, we were able to approve your unlock request. You are now able to unlock via the in-phone unlock button!"
She said "your phone comes back as 'purchased directly from TMobile', which is a different process. I did not realize this at first but now your request is done and will unlock"
You may get lucky finding her on Twitter again and going for the same story. She knows how to get it handled. Her name is Yecenia. When she's active on Twitter, you will see her replying to people complaining @TmobileHelp with "^YeceniaFlores" as the signature (or similar). Maybe ask for her to help if you get another agent. Explain that you own the phone and want to unlock it for development, offer to show proof of purchase and see what happens

If I get the Xperia Play Sim Unlocked...

If I get the Xperia Play sim unlocked, Can I then unlock the bootloader?
if you unlock your bootloader via jinx or alejandrissimo it will unlock your sim at the same time... i used alejandrissimo, very professional and was unlocked in minutes but it is the paid way.
unlocking your sim will not change anything at all to do with your bootloader im afraid, if your sim locked the paid way is the only way - $24 well worth it!!
Looks like thats the way im going to have to go. On the plus side, I get paid tuesday. =)
But yeah, I was just wondering cause I know people were like you cant unlock the bootloader if its a sim locked phone and all this other stuff and I was thinking, What if I called up ATT and got them to unlock the IMEI?
But if that wont change anything, I guess the paid method is how im going to have to go about doing this.
Thanks
If you get it sim unlocked your bootloader will then be allowed to be unlocked.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
I believe the bootloader is specific Per-Device.
You can check if you can in your settings, excuse my newbieness,
Settings > Root Status (or something to this effect)
If your bootloader can be unlocked it'll be listed there.
I dont think the status of your SIM (locked or unlocked) affects the bootloader.

Well... Then I guess Im just gonna call up ATT and get the unlock code. Unlock the phone's sim lock and see if I can, Worse comes to worse, I cant. I still have the paid method available and I havent paid any money what so ever.

Ive looked there and it doesnt show. Which is what brought my hopes down in the first place but everywhere I looked... it said I cant because the device is simlocked. Which is why i wanna know if getting the sim lock removed would then allow me to access and unlock the Bootloader via FastBoot.
I have never owned a phone that has stopped me from rooting and installing custom roms to it. This is kinda a dissapointment but on the plus side, its a good phone.
Hard to get an unlock code from AT&T Or so I heard, but if you do, if you can tell me what you said, that'd be great.
If you do get an unlock code from them, Cant hurt to try to unlock the bootloader after that.

Im a "Valued" member of ATT. Had them for years. So, They dont question me. As long as youve had the phone on your account for 90 days, they dont bother you if you ask for a unlock code.
I will most likely do this tomorrow and will post the outcome. because like I said, if it just takes unlocking the sim card from ATT to be able to unlock the bootloader... id rather do that.
Im not against paying 24$ to have it done.. but why not try what I can for free first?
Hi everyone, I'm completely new to smartphones, just bought an Xperia Play 800i. I have been keenly reading the forums, going through everything I need to know.
My android version is 2.3.4 and build number is 4.0.2.A.0.42. Phone is network locked.
If you don't mind letting me know, the best way to start is by unlocking the SIM right? Then unlock the bootloader, then custom kernel and flashing?
Your advise would be appreciated.
AFAIK regular SIM unlocking doesn't let you unlock your bootloader.
I've read of people who pay a little or get sim unlock from other methods which isn't enough for the bootloader.
It's just that Alejandrissimo's method unlocks both sim & allows for bootloader (it's a 2 for 1 method).
Hope it helps, and if AT&T gives you a free sim unlock code then give it a shot, but it's said it doesn't work that way.
I'm trying Alejandrissimo's method and I'm lost. Have PM'd him and waiting for his reply. I am not on the AT&T network.

Thought that was only T-Mobile. Sadly I dont even have an account with them, Just bought the phone from ebay. So im probably gonna have to spend more to get the thing sim-unlocked.
Oh, look what I found on AT&T's website.
Requirements for monthly wireless plans:
Your wireless service has been active for 90 days or longer
Your account is current and in good standing
Your phone is not sold exclusively by AT&T
Your phone's unlock code is available from the manufacturer
Your phone does not have a long-term exclusive service agreement, or the contract time period has expired

You can get your Xperia unlocked in less than 10 minutes by Alejandrissimo. When he SIM unlocks your Xperia he will also automatically unlock bootloader.
You can visit his website here.

XT1952DL ?

The XT1952DL G7 Play is called "Optimo" by Straighttalk, (ST) & Total Wireless , and "Revvlry" by T-Mobile.
I have the ST version; the bootloader is locked with the "OEM Unlock" option (in Developer Options) greyed-out. And, the mobile network is locked to ST/Verizon.
I own the phone (not blacklisted) but haven't had it long enough for ST to give me an unlock code.
Is there ANY way to unlock this XT1952DL???
Thanks, Will C.

I was able to unlock it. Find usb unlock for Optimo Xt-1952. They log remotely on the phone to unlock it.
Great find, I googled that and have to say I was unsure but gave it a go. I have a Tracfone version that was on Walmert Family Mobile, tried to put my Canadian sim in but didn't get any unlock prompts, took it to an unlocking service but they couldn't do anything with it.
Read you post and googled it and they managed to unlock it on the 2nd attempt, great service was all done within 30 mins of contacting them, like you said bootloader is still locked but nothing much I can do about that.

You can request a sim unlock from mobbdeep and you'd be able to unlock your bootloader once you sim unlock your phone. Then you can proceed to convert to international if you please.
Edit: it's a week wait period just like previous tmo OnePlus devices we should know this.

Bootloader unlock is in the developer options section of settings. you have to get the unlock token and submit it to OnePlus for your unlock bin. Once the unlock bin is flashed you're bootloader unlocked.

You don't. It takes exactly 7 days from when you submitted it. You can check back on the site you submitted the request on and you'll see when it's done, and you can then download it from there. Pestering OnePlus or T-Mobile does nothing, you won't get it any faster.

Most MVNO's require the device to be used on their network for a certain time before it's eligible to be network unlocked. Usually 3-6 months at which time you can just call and ask them to unlock it. If the phone was bought on payment plan and was sold prior to satisfying the payment then the IMEI will be locked in which case you're SOL unless you can get hold of the original contract holder. To answer your question, flashing a custom rom/modem won't fix the issue
Actually some cheap Sprint mnvo(Hot Pepper Poblano) phones WILL unlock with GSI. I have also used eBay sellers that can unlock MetroPCS phones as well I would look there he want an unlocked but you will have to pay for that and pay a pretty penny

Carrier locked phone from ebay What carrier? how to unlock?

So got a pixel 3a xl from ebay from a UK seller. I am in Spain and have no idea how the UK carriers works.

Phone was sold as unlocked.
So how to unlock ? free or paying for it.
I would except a partial refund if it would be unlocked.

Yes, it gets rid of the carrier lock and it changes to the International version. Though there is another way you can unlock it and that doesn't require flashing the phone.

I would not trust this muhammad guy as he is using "sim unlock" language interchangably with device lock. If it is a verizon locked device with OEM unlock greyed out, it is my understanding there is no way to ever fix that. Verizon is the one that implemented that lock, they will not help you unlock it, even if you tell them you are a developer. They tell you to get a google pixel phone directly from google for developer purposes.
having your phone "sim-unlocked" is very different from the device being unlocked.
v12xke said:
If you have already 100% WIPED your phone, skipped through setup and gone straight to dev settings with an active Wi-FI signal and get a greyed out OEM unlock , you will likely never succeed because you inadvertently purchased a bootloader locked phone. SIM unlocked definitely does not equal BL unlockable.

But if it is a Verizon version that was able to be OEM Unlocksd and flashed to LOS like I have done, it is now unlocked? Somehow I was lucky in being able to enable OEM unlock on mine.
