Step-By-Step: Get USB 3 Ports Working on Win 8 (For Issues With ADB/Fastboot and RR)

You need to install Win7's USB drivers on Win8 in order to get ADB/Fastboot working on Win 8. I drove myself mad until some kind soul here (can't remember who) provided the following link. Hope this helps some of you exasperated with getting RumRunner working.

be warned, I have tried this 3 times already, and at some point throughout, on EVERY try, my computer would just STOP recognizing my USB devices, and I would have to use a recovery image on my computer because i couldnt log in to my desktop.
YMMV, but it didnt work at all for me

I made this guide. What I had to do was edit some Windows8 settings and install the drivers manually to get them to work.

This worked beautifully for me on Windows 8.1 RTM x64, thanks much.

I tried all this and still couldn't use Fastboot. My fix was in BIOS. I disabled xHCI mode in USB under advanced tab and everything is fine.

does that stop other functions though? I may try that next.

Just wanted to let you guys know I got it working by installing pdanet. It installed it's drivers and everything worked after that.

My laptop has 2 USB 3 ports and 1 USB 2 port. fastboot/adb doesn't work on the 3s. I always use the 2 port and it works perfectly fine.

Guys the problems with windows 8 and windows 8.1 are normally the usb 3.0 drivers. Intel have not posted windows 8 drivers for series 7 and series 8. You need to modify the windows 7 drivers with other inf files. I have done the job for you so you can manually install the drivers.
The intel series 7 64 bit can be installed from here:

I wasn't aware HTC released 8.1 drivers. I will give these a try. Thanks!

I just made a usb stick carrying win7 to boot off of on my girl's win8.1 laptop. Works wonderfully, the only issue i had when using this guide was i had to manually set the boot sector after finishing running the application.

Load new device driver on Windows 10 mobile

Hi,
I have a Lumia 950 phone running windows 10 mobile. and am intending to use a FTDI usb to serial(rs232) cable with the USB OTG port on the phone. however, the cable driver is not automatically installed. I downloaded an ARM-based winRT driver from FTDI but have no way to load the inf file to the phone.
Does someone did similar things before? help is much appreciated!

Fujitsu Stylistic Q335 Tablet

Anyone know why Remix OS doesnt work on some tablets...even though its x86, and already running Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 already?
I have a Fujitsu Q335 which I want to dual boot, and replace my current Android Tablet with Remix OS.
I just get the following error...
/efi/RemixOS/i386-efi/gfxmenu.mod not found
I tested the install on two different laptops, and was pretty straight forward, but this tablet just wont load the Boot Menu I normally see for Dual Boot systems with Windows 8.1/10.
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Duel boot with Windows rebooting options

Hay all, not sure if I'm in the right place if I'm not just direct me there and I'll remove this thread. I have a duel boot uefi intel NUC system with Windows 10 and bliss x86 and I regualy swap between OS's, I'm wondering does anyone know of a app or simple way I can 1 click reboot from bliss to Windows with out having to click reboot and selecting windows from grub manually and vice-versa (windows to bliss)?? Cheers in advance.

Cannot enter UEFI on Surface RT

I got and old Surface with windows RT 8.1. I went to settings and I reset it to factory (basically reinstalling the OS).
I wanted to upgrade to win 10 from a prepared bootable USB stick but it didn't boot from it. I tried also starting with vol-down and power button.
So I figured that I had to configure UEFI to be able to see the USB drive as boot option.
However, I can't enter UEFI. It just boots normally from the HD. After a lot of searching I tried :
- Vol up + power btn
- Shift+restart
- "shutdown /r /fw" from elevated command window
- There is no "UEFI Firmware Settings" entry found in Settings>Update & security>Recovery>Advanced startup>Troubleshoot >Advanced Options
- msifo32 shows that UEFI is present.
Any suggestions?

You can't, there is nothing configurable on an RT. Inserting the USB and powering on while holding volume - is all that is required.
To install 10 on an RT from USB you need to make sure you have removed Golden Keys if you had it applied otherwise the USB just won't boot. Beyond that the RT can reportedly be picky about what USB drives it will and won't boot from so I would recommend trying another drive. Have you tried booting an RT 8.1 recovery USB to confirm the drive is bootable under more normal conditions?

I created another RT8.1 recovery USB drive and this time I was able to boot to the 'blue' recovery screens.
It looks like the first USB stick wasn't created correctly.
I'm not particularly keen on installing win 10. I read that it runs sluggish and less snappy than 8.1 (which is not the fastest anyway on such small machine).
Is this the only way to run apps outside the MS store? Is there any way to run them in 8.1?

It's still possible your USB was created correctly but was prevent from booting by Golden Keys jailbreak if you ever had it. To confirm you could try removing it using this (can also be used to assist in jailbreaking):

All I really wanted is to be able to run apps outside the MS store. Not so much upgrade to win 10.
I never jailbroke the system, it's the original as far as I recall but I used recovery once to completely wipe and reinstall RT.
Is there a good guide or video for Yahallo and UMCI enabling?
Also, I imagine that I'll still be limited to ARM32 apps despite being outside the Windows store, right? So I still cant install say, firefox or regular desktop apps meant for X386.
Is it even worth the effort? Where can I find a list or repository of arm32 apps so that I can decide or not to do anything?

Correct, you would still be limited to ARM32 apps but these devices are really just for playing around with. As for an app repository, there is a Discord group where some ports are posted at but there isn't a massive selection: https://discord.gg/BGfMNjWX4B
