Question TMobile sim - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

hey folks, I purchased Tmobile version of fold 4 and as usual, it came with a new sim card. I already got a new sim card from my S22 Ultra purchase back in Feb. Does anyone know if the new sim is any different from the one I got from S22 Ultra purchase? I'm currently using the S22 ultra one in my zfold 4 and want to move to esim. So trying to figure out if I should first move to the new/latest sim and then move to esim. Thank you folks.

Don't believe so, I'm using the one I used in my Note 20 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro. Getting good coverage and data with it. Pixel 6 Pro was getting 61 Mbps DL speed on it, the Fold 4 is getting 159Mbps on the same sim card. I have a Samsung unlocked 512Gb model on the T-Mobile network.

you can use the esim it's actually better than a regular sim bc it always updated the carrier config but I got the unlocked fold 4 you could have gotten the unlocked one and just flashed the t mobile rom that's what I did

The problem with eSim is that anytime you want to switch your phone, with a sim card, just place that sim in your new device. With an eSim, you need to notify your carrier of the switch and if they don't approve of the device on their network, you're SOL. It also limits your freedom further as to which phones you can actually use. Plain and simple, eSim is just another way for carriers and manufacturers to limit your abilities and to lock you into their ecosystem.

Activate new TMO SIM card or keep old one?

So my new S9 should be arriving today or tomorrow … it’s my first SIM phone to SIM phone upgrade (previously I have Verizon with CDMA, no SIM cards).
Both phones from T-Mobile.
The S9 will come with a new T-Mobile SIM card, I’ve heard conflicting advice about this. Originally I was just planning to take the older TMO SIM out of my Galaxy S6 and plop it into the S9, but some recommend activating the new SIM instead.
I've had my S6 for 3 years and I believe it's unlocked at this point FWIW, but it's not rooted.
Any pros/cons I need to consider? Do SIM cards "wear out" or get new tech that I should take into consideration?
Thanks!
This is very similar to https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/help/verizon-sim-card-one-s6-t3763294 but that didn't really help me :-/
I am using my old t Mobile SIM card and I am having no problem.

Thanks .. I was just trying to sort out the conflicting advice I've gotten, and whether the new SIM card would have any effect on access to new wireless features (bands etc)

Not for me it does not. I updated my wife's sim card on her iPhone a few months ago and t Mobile did not charge for it so either way not a big deal, I don't think.

Pre orders in the UK don't show dual sim options

Does anyone know if any of the new Galaxy phones announced yesterday will have a dual sim (duos) version? I was hoping to get the Ultra 5G version with dual sim functinality. Obviously if dual sim models are not available, there won't be much to do about that. Maybe they come with e-sim functionliaty? I currently have an S10+ dual sim which takes both my work and personal sims and would like to continue doing that with the new Ultra in 5G.
what a mess and headache the upgrade has been so far - the site failed to finish my order 2 times and i ended up with 2 separate credit agreements with Klarna and 2x150GBP deposits paid, but still no order went thru to samsung so no phone preordered yet ----- they keep saying they will sort it but starting to really get fed up with them - every year same ****
As far as I could tell there was no dual-sim option available, at least on the UK website having pre-ordered myself last night. Still, the website was far from fully up after the announcement; I checked in around midnight to pre-order, and the product specification page for the ultra just resulted in 'under embargo' placeholders... only summary information, no telling whether the 512gb option was with 16gb of RAM at the time. Things cleared up by 2am, and I had pre-ordered the correct thing.
With regards to the pre-ordering option, I went with PayPal credit. I could pay for the phone outright, but why would you with 0% interest on finance? I'll keep my interest for the two years! No issue second time around, first time in my cart the website froze on the payment option screen so I had to start from scratch, but I definitely haven't been charged twice. Still, no discount applied going through the student portal (PhD student, but hey, can still try) and for some reason, the trade in value for a OnePlus 5 was £50 lower on the student portal than the usual one. Have none of the orders gone through then? You should receive an order confirmation in your email if it was successful, it's certainly odd that Klarna's charged you and not placed the order...
I'm still in debate about the case / screen protector combo to use for now, so will hold out until after delivery to see what's available. Did bag myself a SanDisk extreme pro 1TB card to pop into it when it arrives, call me old fashioned, but I like the space.
the upgrade program is different is when you get to upgrade to the new device half way thru the contract and return the old one and get the remaining credit written off ....is a good idea but terrible at times like these
upgrade programme takes Samsung a couple of days every year to work out the glitches.
I'm waiting a few days because last year i ordered my upgrade straight after the unpacked event, then a couple of days later I received an email re the upgrade with a £50 discount code

For once its good news having the Exynos processor. This is what you get. Hybrid sim & eSim. This is how you can use them.
Hybrid sim - nano sim + micro SD card / nano sim + nano sim
If you activate eSim, this is what you get.
eSim + micro SD card / eSim + nano Sim
You cannot have 2 nano sims and an eSim , ie 3 sims
Trust this makes sense.
So you can have two sims active Either 2 physical nano sims or one physical nano sim and an eSim.

Have been trying to figure this out the last couple of days, but there is no single good message around which models of the S20 will have dual sim support, even on samsung pages it says that it is "dependent on carriers and countries" which is not very helpful!
Thank you so much for this answer, it cleard out my last doubt about getting the SM-G988BZADEUA

Question I bought a OnePlus 9 Pro from OnePlus.com. Intending to use it at TMobile.

I am currently a Tmobile subscriber and I usually buy my OnePlus phones thru Tmobile. But this time I just purchased the phone outright from OnePlus.com. I received the phone on Mar 31st and everything works except when I go on the Tmobile website it still lists my OnePlus 9 pro as 'unknown phone'. For other people who have purchased their phones directly from Oneplus for use on Tmobile is this normal?? It's been 9 days and I am wondering. I still get 5g speeds and everything but Im an old worry wart. Thanks in advance.

Yes this normal, as both 9 Pro and 7 pro shows as unknown. Most likely is because I have been using the same SIM card since the 6T and taking it out and putting it in the newer model.
Thanks, so much that makes me feel a lot better.
Mine is the same. I think it shows up that way for any device you didn't purchase from T-Mobile. (I could be wrong.)
Also, the same....normal
Same here as well, but what's funny is I recently got a second line with an unlocked device on it as well and it shows up as it's supposed to. But mine has been an unknown device for about 7 or 8 phones now. I recently did upgrade my sim card to the newest version for 5G and it still shows as unknown.
Thanks guys n galz :0-) I just love the phone and it seems to be fine. I get blazing fast speeds and frankly could not be happier with my new phone. As long as I can take my phone anytime anywhere I won't worry.
FWIW ... make sure you have a new SIM card.
To access the Tmo 5G network, you need the current "R" sim card.

Disagree. The rep made it VERY clear. And the SIMs are colored.
From Tmo support:
While your current SIM card is 5G compatible, it is not capable of using the 5G standalone technology we recently rolled out.
All of my phones that I purchased outside of T-mobile (all of the pixels, the 8pro and now the 9pro) show up as unknown even though T-mobile sells the phones.

Question Is Esim enabled at launch in the USA?

Just need to confirm that Esim is enabled in the USA at launch. The fold 3 fiasco with Esim has me doubting, so need to confirm prior to ordering
I think it's safe to say yes as the S22 Ultra worked out of the box.
It BETTER be FFS!
Samsung has a mixed bag on this and the last fold did not work dual sim
They announced esim is available
Went to Best buy today to play with one. Flip 4 had Sim manager in the connections settings. Fold 4 did not. Guess will try a different best buy lol

I think this may be carrier specific.
My Flip3 that I got from Verzion in June did NOT have sim manager. I flashed an unlocked ROM and got it.
If it doesn't have it out of the box (unlocked), that is going to make some heads roll, I will tell you that.

Yes and neither did the S21 Ultra and Flip 3.
At this point in the game I would be very surprised if any Samsung flagship didn't have it out of the box.
Well, pre ordered today. Lets hope...lol
I went on BestBuy's site, and had a chat with a 'geek' named Olivia. They sell the TMO locked version ( I bought the unlocked, but plan to have TMO SIM in it, so my bet it will boot into a TMO environment like the locked ones). As per very SPECIFIC questions I was told that the Fold 4 supports eSIM. I asked in three ways , and 2 out of the three questions were , in short. a 'YES' , the fold 4 US version under TMO will support eSIM to cover non TMO USA territories. The third question, if she can tell me if the menu under setting->connections have a SIM manager menu, was ignored.
Did I learn something new? NO. Do I know eSIM is supported? NOT SURE. I guess we will know around August 24th to 26th when the pre-orders from Samsung come in... Or maybe someone who got his AMAZON order maybe kind enough and share if the menu indeed exists..
My fear, before entering a TMO SIM, it will be there, and as soon as a TMO SIM will be entered, the menu will be gone... I have no doubt Samsung has the hardware. I will check the setting BEFORE I place the TMO SIM and will see...
Best Buy's chat support are either AI bots or 3rd world employees being paid $1/day. I wouldn't put any faith in them whatsoever. They're about as reliable as Samsung chat support.
Also beware in order to use embedded sim the device cannot be locked to a different carrier. For example if you have TMO and buy a device from them on EIP, it will be locked to them. It should work with two lines but not with Verizon or ATT. The only exception is if you pay in full and wait 45 days for them to approve an unlock request. Of course if paying cash it makes sense to buy unlocked in the first place. ;-)
Yeah, I am fully aware they know nothing of the devices they sell.. and I am well aware this is for fully purchased TMO devices. I did speak to a real person, and I did not get the answers I trust to be the truth.. I really hope SOMEONE who got his unlocked device from Amazon already will share his experience. With all the things I bought in my life at Best Buy, service and warranty by their 'Geek' squad was never something I paid for..
Man, I currently use eSim on my S21 that I am trading in. You guys got me nervous that i won't be able to setup my Fold 4 when i get it haha. I might need to order a TMO sim just in case lol.
Confirmed by TMO at a US store that the TMO version has Esim enabled. Saw it myself with a TMO sim inserted

Confirmed for T-Mobile i just enabled my Esim.
Yup. I did mine yesterday when I got my Fold
When I got mine yesterday, I had to insert the sim card from the Fold3, then go online to chat with a rep to get it activated. Tmobile device.
Wow, in the UK, all I did was 'Transfer e-Sim" on EE's site/app and plonk away it went after scanning the QR. My watch 4 to watch 5 e-sim swap however.....
Just want to clarify....
Esim is live for T-Mobile only..
Atnt straight talk and Verizon don't connect, they can't. I've been told by Samsung directly to wait for an update like the fold 3 for esim support to go live for them...
Came from a OnePlus 8 pro running atnt and Verizon and was slapped in the face when I found out this 0hones 1sim+1esim I was under the assumption the unlocked one was going to be dual sim..
So I'm trying to deal with Verizon through sim card for the time being. Verizon also doesn't have a slightest clue what my device is either, it read the 8 pro, now it just shows nothing in my account for a phone.

esim???...Can I flash a different firmware with it

I have been looking for months but never have been able to do it...missing sim card manager option. I am now hoping someone has been able to do it.
I have an S20 5G (SM-G981W) - Snapdragon
Baseband G981WVLS3FVI2
Service provider software SAOMC_SM-G981W_OYV_RWC_12_0006 RWC/RWC/XAC/RWC
Is there a way to flash a different firmware to get the sim card manager? I would love to switch to esim so that I can add a data nano sim as well. I got to imagine that it can be done easily with ODIN but because I do not have an additional phone to use while trying different flashes, I can't just flash until I find the one that works
If anyone has an idea, please let me know...thanks in advance.
Hi,
I have the same issue and i was wondering if have figured it out as I would love to get an esim. I am on telus right now and I want to walk away from the roaming charges by using esim.

From what I can tell is that all the Snapdragon s20 do not have ability even though the processor supports it. I ended up getting an S21 with the Exynos processor which has it. I didn't have the patience to wait for a way to do it.
Good luck
Thanks for the reply and the great info. Did you buy a Canadian S21 or a USA S21 model? May I ask where you go it from ?
In Canada...It was on Kijiji...I just asked if the phone had sim card manager. That was the important thing for me so I could esim and sim at same time. Currently have my Rogers as esim and my us data plan on sim
Thanks again. Who are you using for US data plan. ?
Mint mobile...it was buy 3 months and get 3months back on black Friday.
You can flash u1 firmware onto the w (Canadian) phone for esim support. Note that android 12 is the hight version avail

Here's a comparison between the W and U1. There's not much difference between the two, except the U1 has more 4G bands. Supposedly, A13 is already available for the U1. I've flashed many times on Nexus 5/7 devices, and even when I screwed up, there was no brick. Are the Galaxy S phones just as robust for flashing?
I've had no issues flashing a rogers w to u1 via odin. I suppose always risks because you are flashing bootroms etc.
I don't believe there is an a13 yet for u1, I assume it is coming very soon. Some people thing Samsung just forgot to push the update
Does a13 for w not support esim? What I found with the u carrier versions is was the esim options were not available. I think you need to insert the carrier Sim before the option shows. U1 is there by default
Holy [email protected]%...I wish this was answered before...sim card manager is there on u1...
Now I have 2 phones...
Thanks...if though a little late as I bought a different phone
