As the title says, it doesn't work. All I get when I try to select a sound file is it tells me that "Preview sound could not be played". I get this for ringtones and mp3s selected as "music" for the alarm. My phone calls DO ring though and mp3s play in the music player, it's just that my alarm doesn't play anything. I tried others alarm apps as well and it's the same issue...I would love to poke around the root directory to see what's going on with the ringtone files but it doesn't appear that this device is rootable yet. Any ideas on the issue or has anyone else had this problem?

I just recently noticed that my ringer isn't working. Nor are a lot of other notifications. In fact, the only sound/notification working is the IM+ message received sound. When on the notification tab, I press OK and it doesn't let me close the window. Anyone seen this before?
Update: I can play wav files fine as sounds/notifications. But I cannot play wma or mp3 files in there. I've tried changing their default programs, but they just won't play. Any ideas?
I am now on the prowl for a cab that messes with the notification sounds just to see if it will get my registry back in line...
After a bit of investigating, it seems that I can only play WAV files and not the wma or mp3 files I also can select. Only when selecting wav files am I able to preview the sound and have it work.
When ever i get a notification, my notification sound plays but my music app (MOG) randomly starts playing. I was having the same problem with doubletwist. Anybody know what might be wrong?
i don't know if this is the same issue, but i know I've run into that after unmounting the SD card. What I think happens is that if the system loses track of the original notification sound file, it defaults and searches for other sound files (how it does this I don't know). I've always been able to fix it by remounting the SD card or just going in and setting the notification sound again.
HTH
Thanks a ton; I was surprised to see that that worked.
(I did use google and the search function for this, without sucess)
I've been using android (CM7 RC0) for one and a half week for now, so far so good, but I'm having a problem with the alarm clock.
Lost class one day, the alarm didn't go off on speakers, because I left my headphones plugged in the night before, listening to music.
So, I figured out "Always play on speaker" settings under CyanogenMod settings, and checked it.
Next day, guess what, it didn't wake me up.
Found out that while music is playing (it kept playing all night long, after I slept) even with the "always play on speaker" checked, the alarm only sounds on the headphones.
Searched for settings to correct this problem, there is a "volume while music playing" option, but it doesn't give me the option to ring on speakers while music is playing.
Does anybody know a solution for this problem?
Thanks.
I'd recommend you to use Alarm Clock Xtreme (free) you can find it in the market.
It has an option to force your alarm through the speakers even with headphones plugged in, it also has a lot more nice features!
Thanks!
Will test it later today, I hope I don't lose any more appointments because of that.
I don't know if this is a silly issue, could this be a suggestion for the Cyanogen devs to add the "always on speaker while music playing" option under the existing menu?
Thanks for your help, the suggested alarm did work. Funny thing is when it rings on speakers, the music that was playing at the headphones is also redirected to the speakers, it becomes a messy sound Anyways, it WILL wake me up!
I'm glad I could help you. I never knew it would mix the alarm sound and music sound when the alarm goes off (haven't used that feature yet). The "always on speaker while music playing" option in Cyanogenmod should do the same thing so I guess this is a bug.
or get a music player app with a "sleep function". i.e. click on 120mins and the app will self close/turn off the music in 120mins... so your alarm can sound in the morning via speaker... not as flexible but just another option.
Hi!
I also had this problem on my older Desire Z, but then it just kept changing all notification / ringtones sounds to ramdom .mp3 files on the SD card. Not when connecting in Mass Storage mode, but without any intervention from my part.
Now it will change some or all sounds (ringtones, notifications, alarms) to "Unknown ringtone". You can see it in the screenshot. When I try to change them back to something, in the list where I should choose the file, no sound will play when I tap on them (usually, you can preview the sound before accepting). After I choose the file I want, the Personalize menu will still show "Unknown ringtone". The only way to get it back to normal is a phone reset, and then all my ringtones will get back to the ones I've chosen initially.
I should note that I use only custom ringtones, all of them are on the Mass Storage memory in "Audio/Ringtones", "Audio/Notifications" and "Audio/Alarms". I don't use any ringtone app (like Ringdroid etc.) and I only have "normal" apps installed (some games and popular apps from known developers).
This thing happens at random, at least once a day, I don't connect the phone in Mass Storage mode, it just sits on the table and suddenly the ringtones are gone. The worst part is that nothing will play, so I won't receive sound notifications for alarms or incoming calls, only vibration if it is set so.
I searched and read a lot of threads on diffeent forums, a lot of people have this problem on other phones and Android versions, but nobody had an explanation or a solution. Could it be an app I use? I can make a list of everything I installed...
I'd appreciate any help, this problem is very annoying.
After a lot of testing and cursing the phone, I think I found the problem. I re-converted all my mp3 ringtones to 96kbps, mono, no ID3 tag, no embedded album picture, just plain .mp3. It now seems to work fine for two days.
I think the random change happens only for big mp3 files or for mp3 files with album art. Hope it helps, if somebody will have the same issue.
check the setting of you profiles. see if it has the same ringtones.
I am trying to choose/make custom ringtone but have found that music gets mixed in with the 'local tone' option in sound.
How do I stop music showing up here?
thanks
