Internal Storage Encrypt - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

First of all, sorry for my bad English.
I use TWRP 3.5 v2 by Santoshhh, Global Rom 12.5.8.0
After flash twrp, im flash disable twrp replace, patch vbmeta avb 2.0, dan close avb 2.0 in "advanced" button, then i reboot the phone.
One again Im back to twrp, the twrp is normal, i canopen internal storage in "install" button.
The problem come when after im installing many apps in phone.
If im go to recovery mode, the twrp is locked, so i cant access my internal storage.
What i need to do flash or install something to get this problem done?
Everyone who know the full tutorial, im happy if you guys helping me.
Thank you so much.

Internal memory loss - Installing twrp - Locked BL - Mi Max 32GB

Hi Guys,
I installed TWRP in my Mi Max (32GB) (locked BL) yesterday by replacing stock recovery.img with twrp image and flashing that miui8 dev build through MiFlash in EDL mode. After that my total space was showing nearly 8GB.
To mention, I followed all steps properly like clearing dalvik and cache as well as formatting system, data, internal mem but the same happened.
Again I completely removed mods and installed stock, 24GB space was regained. But now when this time also I installed Resurrection Remix CM13 in the same way as no other way worked for locked BL and unlocking bug has really frustrated me, same thing happened.
Somebody please take up this issue and help me. I wonder how people who installed CM13 RR on locked BL are not facing this issue..
hi karanhv post ur question in q&a forum that way more people will be able to respond to u . anyways from what i gathered ur trying to install global developer build over the global stable that came with ur phone so that u could unlock ur device so that u could flash custom rom like cm or rr . good news is that u can do that without unlocking ur bootloader just follow this guide here from step 1-17 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/how-to/guide-install-global-miui8-root-t3435594 . just substitute the rom with cm or rr(personally tested by me on global dev rom.)
but things get a bit tricky if u want to stay on stock miui but want to have a custom recovery and root.skip steps 12,13,14,15. and go thru steps 16 & 17.now u will have stock miui with twrp recovery . now if u want to update the stock miui.go to updater app> click the 3 dot button on upper rt side> click on "download update" > the update will downloaded to "downloaded_rom" folder in ur internal storage.now boot to twrp recovery by switching of phone & switching it on again this time holding the vol+ button while it boots up.now after u boot into twrp recovery ,install the zip file that has been downloaded in the "downloaded rom" folder, immidiately after the install, flash supersu zip.now dont reboot yet, using TWRP's file manager navigate to system folder and delete file named "recovery from boot" and then reboot into system thus u will be updated on stock miui while still retaining root and twrp recovery. hope this clears up for u .if u follow all these steps u wont be faced with any memory loss
easy solution

I had the same problem with 64gb version.
In twrp go to wipe
Click option to delete data partition
It will tell you all data will be deleted and encryption disabled.
After data partition gets deleted twrp will report proper internal space, and ROM will also report proper internal space.
Be sure to backup everything before.

How to flash official nougat without wiping internal storage?

Hello all!
I am currently on OOS 3.2.8, and official TWRP. I have read all the instructions on the forums but all lead to one option, formatting internal memory. So, my question are:
1. Will flashing oos 4.0 work with official TWRP or 8 have to use modified 28 version?
2. How can I flash oos 4 with modified TWRP and not have to wipe internal memory?
I would appreciate all the responses. Thanks
I was the same predicament as you. I finally took the plunge and now I have Nougat running on my OP3. Here is what I did :
Start: OOS 3.2.8 w/ custom kernel and modified TWRP
1. Flash stock recovery (Google for a forum post in the OP3 forums on downloading the stock recovery and flash it through fastboot)
2. Reboot and let 3.2.8 start
3. Download Snap VPN and change the country to Canada. You will be prompted for the system update.
4. Let the update download (~1 GB)
5. Install the update. You may see an error of the installation may fail as your phone is rooted. Ignore and go ahead.
6. The installer will now boot to stock recovery and reboot with Nougat. All settings and apps will be maintained
The only catch is that you may have ext4 instead of f2fs. I am okay with it for now... But your mileage may vary
All the best!
Edit : Nougat running on my op3.

Are you rooted? Are you encrypted? What file systems are you using for your partitions? You're not giving full information. Why is formatting not an option if it'll give you the results you want?
To get to F2fs (I do recommend it)
Take a backup of your Data partition. , copy it to your pc with "adb pull /sdcard/Twrp/whatever".
Now go to Twrp>Wipe>Advanced select data and click on change file system. Change it to F2fs. Now restore your backup (Reader the guide all info is there). Profit!

I don't have any issues with ext4, infact i do feel ext4 is more stable than f2fs so file system is my last concern. Thanks for your method, but then how did u root again? Installing nougat is fine but what after that? I have read that you can't use modified twrp without formatting internal memory first, as it'll show you the pin issue. Let me know how do you propose a safe method to achieve root.

Yes i am encrypted, rooted, stock OOS 3.2.8 + Franco kernel. Official TWRP(not modified). I am using ext4, never used f2fs at all. The time to backup data and then to restore it all back is the reason formatting is not an "preferred" option for me. I can do it, but i would have to wait until i find enough time to do the whole process. I am in a full time job, so i hope you would understand.

Well this again defeats the purpose of my original question, but thanks mate. I would definitely read the guide if decide to switch to f2fs.
@abhibnl. BTW your encrypted. So the modified TWRP won't work.
How to fix:
Wipe Userdata with Fastboot / fastboot erase UserData
Boot into Twrp modified twrp.
Flash OOS 4.0 flash SuperSU and let it boot
You should be decrypted DO NOT install a boot password since you will be encrypted again.
I haven't rooted my phone again. My only reason to root is to install Adaway to block all ads. With DNS66 and Adguard, I have little incentive to root my stock nougat install.
Edit : I had encryption during 3.2.8 and it carried over to 4.0

Thanks a lot for informing me mate. I really don't want to decrypt my storage as of now. I guess flashing stock recovery is the only solution now. Will hope someone would pick up the twrp and update it.

Seems like stock recovery is the best way as of now. Seems like I'll have to love without root until someone updates twrp to support encrypted storage.
I haven't updated to Nougat yet, but I looked over Chainfire's SuperSU changelog and its installation script and both of them confirm that from March installing SuperSU prevents forced encryption. Also many guides suggest installing it as way for disabling forced encryption. Of course you have to flash SuperSU just after flashing ROM, before booting the system.

That i already knew mate. But i WANT my storage to remain encrypted. And that's the issue with modified TWRP. You can't enter into recovery on that if your storage is encrypted.

Again, "You can't enter into recovery on modified TWRP if your storage is encrypted." So i won't be able to enter into twrp in the first place, let alone flash anything.

In the same boat as you. I have OOS 3.2.8 encrypted, rooted and TWRP 3.0.2-1.26. I too would like to update but have way to much stuff on my phone to back it all up and restore it. Hope you or someone come's up with a solution. I will be following your thread.
Thanks.
Go to twrp. Press backup. Select only data. Save to PC youre backup for safety..
3.2.8 it's Android 6, 4.0 it's Android 7. Some apps might not work from base to base.
If you want to change to F2FS it will format youre phone, wipe phone full internal memory. If you want to change it back to ext4, same.
Clean flash, full wipe it's always better.

My suggestion (and my steps are in #1), install stock recovery, install snap VPN, download the update and install (ignore any errors on root). Once done, you will have Nougat with stock recovery, encryption maintained and all app data also intact.

This is the last resort brother. With this method, unfortunately I won't have any root available. The only way now is to wait for updated twrp.

Well, I tried something, waiting on it to finishing booting and see how it went.
I flashed twrp-3.0.2-1.28-oneplus3p version,
Flashed the OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_035_all_1612310359_e10cadfb2af7.zip inside TWRP,
Flashed SR1-SuperSU-v2.79-SR1-20161221223537.zip right after flashing OTA zip.
Its rebooting and says Android is upgrading. Fingers crossed.
EDIT: Its booted and I am on Nougat, didnt lose my data and phone is still encrypted!
Edit: Ended up having issues with settings app locking up. So, I went a different route and its all working great now.
Downloaded the stock recovery image and renamed it to recovery.img
Make sure after you rename it its not named recovery.img.img, If you have show file extensions enabled on your pc you should already see the file extension.
Rebooted to bootloader - adb flash recovery recovery.img
Using the volume keys and power button selected - reboot recovery.
Now in stock recovery - flashed OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_035_all_1612310359_e10cadfb2af7.zip
After rom is done flashing, went right back into bootloader. Did not let my phone reboot to start the OS.
Renamed twrp-3.0.2-1.28-oneplus3p.img to recovery.img
adb flash recovery recover.img
Powered off phone and Manually boot it into recovery by holding Power + Volume Down button.
Phone booted into TWRP
Flashed SR1-SuperSU-v2.79-SR1-20161221223537.zip
Wiped cache / dalvik
Rebooted system from TWRP and waited. System is really smooth now, no issues yet. Been playing with it for awhile now.
During the booting up process it might take a minute and it will reboot twice. Dont get nervous like I did thinking it was going to start bootlooping. It booted just fine. I read in a nother thread that SuperSU is what causes it to boot twice.
So......Now I have OOS 4.0 Nougat, Rooted, Encrypted and everything seems to be working fine.

OnePlus 3 keeps booting into TWRP Recovery Mode - PLEASE HELP!!

I will try to explain what happened as best as possible.
I wanted to install the AKT Profile on my un-rooted one plus 3 and so I decided to root it.'
I looked up on google and used the OP3 All In One ToolKit to unlock bootloader and flash TWRP.
Then I booted up phone to download SuperSu in order to flash it.
This is where the problem began. I went into TWRP recovery mode and it asked for a password and that stopped the nandroid backup too. but I googled and found out that doing a Wipe helps you bypass the password bug, so I did that. Now I went ahead and did a nandroid backup.
This is where I don't understand what's going on. How much ever I try to reboot the device, it ONLY loads me back into TWRP Recovery screen.
I even tried to restore the backup, it completes the restore but I dont see any reboot option right after it is done, So i have to long press power button to reload back into TWRP.
Now I'm confused as to what to do and would REALLY appreciate help, ASAP.
P.S - I'm a noob so I probably wont understand high level jargon
thank you guys in advance :crying:
SOLVED : I flashed TWRP 3.0.3 once again and somehow it got fixed
'' doing a wipe help you bypass the password''... Well yes probably, but depending on what type of wipe, you might have wiped your rom/system. So if that is the case, there is no rom to boot into, and your stuck in twrp recovery. Restoring an empty Nandroid wont do anything either. So my guess is you will have to download stock or custom rom and do a fresh install.
If needed, this method works very well.
I used it to day, with success.
Good luck !
Thank you. but will this work with latest TWRP 3.0.3 or will i have to use old one as mentioned in that post?
Use latest twrp 3.0.4.0. Also for clean install with OOS 4.02 or OB11. Also keep both firmware and supersu/magisk superuser close by. You can find all dl-links on xda.

Its not official but working for me...
Try flashing the stock recovery. I got stuck in recovery loop after the OTA update got installed over twrp. Flashed the stock recovery and right away it booted me to the rom.
It's a problem of older twrp with nougat so you need to flash twrp new version

OP5T - bricked - kinda. - SOLVED

Unlocked bootloader.
Flashed TWRP bluespark one.
Tried to flash freedom OS which appeared to install okay.
Then phone went back to bluespark TWRP and that is all I can do.
Can select ADB sideload mode from TWRP but cannont get computer to recognise it.
Cant wipe data because it says unable to wipe data (device or resource is busy)
Cant get into fastboot mode either.
So all I have in TWRP. I can access USB OTG storage.
If anyone can save me, please let me know what do to. Much appreciated in advance.
PS - no I do not have back up, and ouch yes I know. Thanks again.
I also get this bootloop when I flash a custom
1)Try a hard reset(hold the power button)
or
2)Download the official Stable/Beta ROM, wipe eeeeeeeeeeeeeeverything(storage, /cache, /data, ART) and also factory reset and flash the official ROM
I managed to get into fastboot eventually, flash an older version of TWRP, it then let me do a wipe and I have attempted again to install freedom os 2.1 (I had freedom os on my onep3t and liked it)
Appears to be working now (installing) maybe I should delete it if works.
Would like to disable that bootloader is unlocked message if possible. Thanks.

Question Urgent! Flashing ROM gone wrong!

I finally unlocked my bootloader todaye and tried to flash Crdroid following the Munchy youtube tutorial as well as the instructions on the Crdroid forum post.
I've used TWRP 3.9 skkk and the Crdroid build from 28/07/22. Everything was going as planned until i rebooted back in to recovery after flashing the Crdroid ROM. I went to try and flash Gapps and Magisk but no I longer had access to the phones internal storage even though I flashed the ROM from my internal storage. I plugged in my USB stick which also had the Gapps and Magisk files and I flashed them without any errors and then rebooted again.
After rebooting I cant even select internal storage, it stays "stuck" on OTG storage and the internal storage is reported to be "0mb". See picture here (I had unplugged the USB stick before taking this picture).
I decided to try and format data but that was unsuccessful, presumably because there's nothing to format!! Please see picture here.
I followed the Munchy tutorial carefully whilst also reading the Crdroid instructions so I really dont know what I did wrong and i'm now just hoping I haven't bricked my phone as its not even 2 weeks old.
I'd be really grateful for some help.
Go back to stock (without locking bootloader) then follow the first time installation instructions in the crdroid thread
So you had crDroid working, and when you've simply booted into TWRP SKKK, you didn't see the Internal Storage? After flashing GApps or...?
Have you used DFE ?
Are you still able to boot the system?

I flashed crDroid without any errors but I never attempted to actually boot in to it, i rebooted back in to recovery after flashing the ROM and when i tried to flash Gapps i realised that something had messed up the internal storage.
I have actually managed to fix the problem using the 'repair file system' option in TWRP. I still dont know why things got messed up in the first place though.
use usb otg to install gapps and magisk from that usb.
if you dont have a usb otg, you can use adb sideload
We have the same issue, but I managed to fix it by using the previous version of TWRP 3.6.0 from SKKK and the version you're referring to version of TWRP 3.9.0 is still buggy for now on alioth/aliothin devices.
TWRP SKKK doesn't seem to be all that reliable. :S

Lol so you had a working ROM but got scared...
When u format data + flash new system u lose access to data untill phone boots for the first time - Rebooting recovery at this point let's you flash gapps from external storage/pc to second slot - But magisk can't be flashed before the phone boots , it will say flashed and all but when you boot the phone magisk won't be there
Instead flash gapps then boot the phone , give it few mins to set everything up then reboot twrp and install magisk.
I don't recommend skk when nebrasy twrp exists
What the **** does "SKKK" mean anyway?
Did the dev's cat's paw land on the keyboard?
