Question 3x zoom in camera app doesn't switch to telephoto camera - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
Hello
I got the Fold4 a few days ago and still figuring things out
I don't seem to understand how the stock camera app switches cameras
There are 3 'predefined' optical zoom options at the bottom:
1. .6x - Assuming this is the 10MP ultra-wide camera (top camera, furthest from the flash LED)
2. 1x - Assuming this is the main 50MP wide camera (middle camera)
3. 3x - Assuming this is the bottom 12MP 3x telephoto camera (bottom camera, closest to the flash LED)
The thing is - if I cover the bottom camera with my finger and toggle all the zoom options, none of them show a covered camera.
It seems my assumption is right about 1 and 2, but the 3x zoom option also uses the main 50MP middle camera, and it just crops the image
Only going digital zoom of 10x or above makes it switch to the bottom telephoto camera
If I switch the camera app to video then it's a different story, 1x uses the main 50MP camera and 3x uses the 12MP bottom camera
Anyone has this issue or any information on it?
Just checked mine and it switches between all three cameras
I also just checked mine and when the 3:4 mode is selected then it will move between the 3 cameras based on when I select the preset 0.6x, 1x and 3x zoom.
However what I don't understand is when I can select the 3:4 50MP camera then there are no other preset zooms to choose... What is the difference between this mode and the 3:4 mode - are they both 50MP??

I think the regular 3:4 mode is only 12MP (3000x4000 resolution), maybe to save memory or to do produce better pictures with some algorithm.
the 3:4 50MP takes advantage of the full capability of the sensor
This option exists in most of their modern phones
The zoom camera will automatically default back to the main camera if the ambient light level is too low. Because the zoom lens has a smaller aperture it performs worse in dark environments. It is likely being triggered by your finger covering the lens. This has been the case with all multi lens camera phones that Samsung makes.

Thank you, I did not know that
Confirmed it by switching to 3x when all cameras are covered and uncovering only the 2 top ones
It will auto switch to telephoto camera when it gets bright enough
ty this fixed my zoom problem for pictures. but when recording video it does not switch can some one direct me to an app or to a fix please

Does One V has autofocus?
I'm trying to make good photo for 2 days, but it looks like phone has no autofocus at all, most of images are not sharp! am I doing something wrong?
Yes it does have autofocus: Camera with HTC ImageSenseā¢ 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, smart LED flash, and BSI sensor (for better low-light captures) F2.0 aperture and 28mm lens 720p HD video recording Dedicated imaging chip Capture a photo in the midst of recording HD video Continuous shooting mode captures multiple snapshots
Be Still For At Least A Second!! It takes at least 1-2 seconds to focus on a thing. Be Still!
ok, but do you press screen or the photo button? when i click photo button it seems like it makes photo instantly without any focusing
Screen and the photo button both... There is Autofocus in One V... When you take picture, you'll yourself come to know that it is trying to focus on a particular object. If this doesn't happen, on the screen gently tap on the object. It will show some green borders around the are you touched and it will focus. After that, press the camera button. :good:
Rear camera too dark
Anyone else find the rear camera almost pitch black compared to front camera? I've changed various settings but it doesn't go any brighter.

I just posted in another thread that I had this issue, even adjusting all the setting makes very little difference when using the camera in video mode, picture mode is fine though, no issues with darkness etc.

Don't know about the dark only in video mode issue. What I've seen is most cameras look find in bright rooms, but in dimly lit rooms, everything is very dark. I just figured this was normal for this level camera, but then I saw a unit that was able to have the same image my eye could see, rather than being so dark it was hard to make out details. That's when I came to the concusion there are different cameras or the same camera with different variances. I could adjust the exposure in the dark camera to the highest level and get about 75% of the brightness of the bright camera, but never as bright. By bright, I just mean you can make out the details in the scene.
It seems to be more of bug though because it's also doing it on sphere & panoramic modes too, it's like it's automatically setting the exposure to -2 when your under unnatural light. The setting shouldn't be any different to camera still mode as all it does is stitch multiple stills together.

When I turn on video mode, it ignores any exposure setting. Is it possible you have exposure turned up (not necessarily by your own doing) in the camera mode and when you switch to video, it doesn't honor the exposure? Basically what I'm asking is, rather than video mode being dark, is it possible video mode is "normal", ie no adjustments to exposure, and camera mode has exposure upped up, possibly some change/fix that was made to account for an overly dark camera? I know this makes no "effective" difference to you, but might explain why it behaves differently in camera and video/stitch/etc. mode.
Sometimes it also goes redish dark in picture / still mode too but that can be fixed by pressing home and then returning to it via recents, you can hear the shutter or lens reset.
4.4 gives a slight improvement, it's lighter now hopefully with another tweaked update it'll be fixed.
Is it possible to use hand gesture for rear camera?
As the rear camera is much better than the front, I was thinking how great it would be to be able to use it for selfies. I know I could also use the timer to take selfies with the rear camera, but I noticed it usually loses the focus as I move the camera around to press the shutter. Is there an option for this, or even an app for this?
camera settings for 20mp shots
Hello everyone, Want to know how some images get shot in 20mp as below while some show 16mp in details Do we need to change settings in order to shot always in 20mp ?
main camera is 16mp and second camera a.k.a. low light camera is 20mp, so there is nothing to be get confused about.
Thanks for the info. Does it mean pictures taken in low light or dark rooms with flash are 20mp, whereas brighter surroundings are always 16mp
Use the hq option in the hdr settings, this will always use the 20mp camera
Question Is there any way to use video-call apps with the back camera and front screen?
I would like to use Google Duo with the back wide camera + the front screen, but as far as I have seen, it is only available in the selfie mode of the photo camera app. Is there any way to use it for video-calling? The under the screen camera quality is pretty horrendous, to be honest. Thanks.
