Unable to install LineageOS 19.1 - Nokia 6.1 (2018) Questions & Answers

Hi guys!
I am new here, recently unlocked bootloader (guide)
Eagerly want to flash lineage OS, but can't. Always ended up multiple reboots or some black screen.
Can anyone write step by step guide?
Currently using Android 9 Stock ROM (came back from android 10 stock rom using this method)
Used TWRP from here

Have you read the wiki page for LineageOS for N 6.1?
Info about PL2 | LineageOS Wiki
wiki.lineageos.org

Update: Installed.
NOTE: It is recommended to update your stock ROM to Android 10 before flashing this custom ROM. ( this method )
Just reboot to bootloader and download this TWRP for our Nokia 6.1, boot it (fastboot flash boot twrp.img), and everything will be fine.
Power + Volume Up
and leave power button when you see the android one logo but keep pressing volume up
Now you can flash TWRP.zip file.
Format Data by typing yes
Reboot to TWRP.
Flash latest ROM zip via TWRP
Switch to an alternative slot (if you are on slot a, switch to b if you are on b, switch to a) - (if you don't know where is the option to switch: reboot >> select slot)
Reboot system

hello @chsiva, I would like to know if when installing the version of lineageOS 19.1 you used the lineageOS recovery, in my case I have reinstalled LineageOS 19.1 more than once without any problem. In fact, it is not so necessary to have the latest version of Android from the manufacturer installed to be able to install this version of lineageOS, I will explain the steps to be successful in the process.
1) Do not leave any custom recovery as permanent.
2) Since I have Windows 10, I had to look for the drivers that really work for Nokia, in which there are 2 drivers that are needed and apply some additional configurations to the main installer, one of them is compatibility with old versions of the operating system.
3) Download the tool that includes fastboot + adb and verify that the device is really recognized by the operating system regardless of the mode in which it is.
4) Being in the stock version, I recommend you to factory reset the device, then configure it.
5) Enter the download mode and through the cmd and in the adb mode use it to change the slot A/B (A or B), In both you will have to install the lineageOS recovery.
6) Having the recovery installed in both Slots (Remember to use Fastoboot to install the recovery) I recommend you to be in Slot B to proceed with the installation of the rom.
7) Then access the recovery, in my case I decided to perform a data format from the recovery and then select the ADB installation, I recommend you disconnect the device before accessing this option, when you access this option, connect the device to the computer (the recovery should indicate that you are in slot b before continuing with this).
8) Install the lineageOS rom and after it finishes, reboot the device and wait for it to boot.
9) When booting into lineageOS, apply settings and then reboot back into recovery mode.
10) Install the necessary Gapps to have the basic services of google, remember to be in slot b to continue, after installation, restart and when starting, connect to a network and configure.
11) The normal thing is that it is configured but in a partial way, the contacts that you have saved in your google account should not appear if you have it saved, if this happens, you only have to reset the device from the factory.
12) When starting again, apply the configuration connected to the network since the gapps are already included in the device, more configuration options should appear than the previous time when you installed the gapps and at the end the contacts should appear.
13) now if you can install magisk in version 25.2 if I'm not mistaken, remember to change the .apk to .zip and from the recovery install it from slot b and reboot.
14) and the last thing you need is to install 2 modules to certify the device with magisk (before this, I recommend you activate the option to hide root from applications, magisk should request a reboot, before rebooting, apply the deny settings of root to the applications that you deem convenient, but those of google if or if they have to be denied, in google services, mark all the options to deny root in its entirety).
15) For this procedure you will need a terminal and from the terminal, type the command (props), then press ENTER and sign the device.
16) and then delete data from play store and google services and then reboot the device and voila, your device is ready to use.
-In the event that you do not have a windows operating system, you can use the virtualbox tool and if it is possible to install the version of windows 7 ultimate, although you will have to install some necessary drivers so that you do not have a problem with the execution of applications from the virtualized system.

Just going to dump all the info I've found about this device into this thread. All the threads pertaining to this thread are in Russian and I can't read Russian, so this might be helpful to any English speaking owners of this tablet.
Special thanks to Telegram user @SSDD_1744 (don't know your XDA/Reddit user, I'm sorry) for basically spoonfeeding me all these instructions!
WARNING: If you need to flash to stock for whatever reason, be sure to download a image file specific to your country. If you don't, you'll hard brick your device that can only be fixed QPST (supposedly).
Rooting:
(Tested on 5.0.2)
Install KingRoot. Let it root your device.
Install Super-SU Me, to get rid of the bloatware that comes with KingRoot.
Installing Xposed:
I used Flashify to flash TWRP. Be sure to flash the right version though (2.8.7.7 v2) or else you won't be able to mount cache.
Then download Xposed (version sdk21 ARM) and flash it.
WARNING: Flash v1 of the modded TWRP and you won't be able install any apps after flashing Xposed.
Unbricking:
Still working on it. Downloaded QPST but have not been able to get QPST 2.7 to read the tablet.

To boot into fastboot, restart/turn on the device and hold volume up. It'll pop you into a menu with three options.
To boot into recovery, from the fastboot screen (three options), use the volume buttons and navigate to the second option "factory reset" and hit power to confirm. It'll boot into recovery.

Recommended way to flash ROMs:
1) Download TWRP. Use adb to boot (NOT flash) into TWRP. Flash ROM there.
2) use KingRoot to root. Use Flashify to flash the ROM.

I see that Lineage OS is supported on Z380KL. However, I found the wiki spec showing Snapdragon 410, but I found Z380KL in Asia with Snapdragon 615. Before I commit, I'd like to know if anyone knows whether LineageOS is fully compatible with Z380KL with Snapdragon 615 chipsets? Thanks.

Flashing TWRP on 6.0.1 (Sept 1, 2016 patch):
1) grab your drivers (W10: boot into "no driver signature verification mode" to install the drivers needed for fastboot)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cGcoDCvmTxfXWNTG0iOXHw1WScmYBrKS
2) turn on debugging
3) type in "adb devices", verify that your computer sees your tablet (if you don't have ADB/Fastboot, get https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790)
4) type in "adb reboot bootloader"
5) you'll see three options: 1. Enter SD DL mode, 2. Factory Reset, 3. Exit update mode
6) type in "fastboot devices", verify that your computer sees your tablet
7) grab your TWRP file (http://vasy.ru/TWRP/P024/) and type in "fastboot flash recovery [replace w/ location of the TWRP file].img"
8) once it says "finished", click factory reset mode (use volume buttons to navigate, power button to enter)
9) it should reboot into TWRP, slide to allow modifications
10) Boom, TWRP is installed.
OPTIONAL, BUT HELPS TO KEEP TWRP INSTALLED: Flash Magisk.
That way, stock recovery won't overwrite TWRP when you reboot.
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP TWRP BUT DON'T WANT Magisk:
1) After first boot into TWRP, turn off tablet.
2) Then turn on and hold Volume Up + Power. That will boot you into Bootloader Mode.
3) Go into factory reset and it should boot you into TWRP.
Now, it's safe to boot into the OS.
(TL;DR: Boot into TWRP twice before booting into the OS or else stock recovery will overwrite TWRP.)
Flashing LineageOS:
1) DL LOS from https://download.lineageos.org/P024
2) DL GApps from http://opengapps.org/ (choose 7.1)
3) boot into TWRP
4) go into Wipe, slide to wipe
5) go to Install, click on LOS file > add to queue, click on Open GApps file > add to queue, flash
6) wait til it's done, click "reboot"
7) wait a while (took mine 3 or so minutes to boot)
8) enjoy!

Thanks for the tutorial, I had already dared to flash twrp recovery before you wrote this tutorial...
I believe my bootloader is still locked. And I could not reproduce/ write exactly what I did. But, in my case, just for information, when I want to go back into twrp, I can boot into bootloader (power volume up) and then option 2 reset the device gives me the twrp... I am not sure if that is how you get it, but for me, I still had twrp.
I think i will install magisk after reading your post.

Can you still access fastboot, then at least you can flash twrp as described before in this thread and install from twrp lineageos p024 (lineage-14.1-20180105-nightly-P024-signed.zip) and Open gapps to get google playstore etc , select Arm, (not 64) then version 7.1, then Pico would work.
If you have twrp, you at least can still use your asus... I have found no way to flash original stock... stock must not be flashed from twrp.
Since you mention twrp already used, you can try: turn your device off, then press volume up then the bootloader menu comes, select 2: reset to enter twrp(where it says reset. if you had flashed twrp, that is how you can get into twrp) from there, install lineage os and gapps from micro sd card
My rom is MMB29M.WW_P024-V5.9.4-20170613

I assume this is on stock rom ? What version of magisk would work? I found I can be back at stock with my twrp backup so ..
But magisk 15.3 zip failed to install on stock-
I also used supersu v82 working on stock, or lineageos.
Would you know what magisk works on lineageos?
I like the exsd extension of magisk so I would like to try it on this device, either stock or lineageos

Yes it was. I flashed 15.2 on both stock and LOS. I've heard of some issues with 15.x so you can try .2 or 14.x.

What error was given? What do you see when you connect it to a computer? What does "tablet locked" mean? Would help if you gave some pictures too.
I'm currently in the process of getting the RAW files/service ROMs for AFT but I don't have an ETA on when I'll be able to get that.
No on the tablet I have not installed TWRP and no other recovery. When I go into the original recovery of the tablet there is always the screen with the lock closed at the bottom right and there is no way to show it to the PC even with adb sideload, l 'only program that recognizes me the tablet is Asus flash tool, however, as I have already written the damn ROM in RAW format is untraceable.

MediaPad M5 Lite (BAH2-W19) is not booting after flashing custom rom

Hi there.
I screwed up my MediaPad M5 Lite (Wifi edition: BAH2-W19, EMUI 8 installed. It's a treble compatible device) yesterday and need help.
I did the following steps before it all went down the gutter:
1. I successfully unlocked the bootloader using the DC Unlocker method
2. I downloaded the latest a-only AOSP release of "phhusson AOSP 9.0 v119": system-arm64-aonly-vanilla-nosu.img.xz (https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases)
3. I rebooted into bootloader and flashed the unzipped .img file to the device. The flash was successful as all 4 steps of copieing stuff tot he system partition said "OKAY"
4. now I used "fastboot reboot" and the trouble started. The tablet froze in fastboot mode. It just didn't restart.
5. I turned it of using a long push on the power button. Then it restarted and got stuck at the start screen. I'll attach a screenshot so you know what I am seeing.
6. From now on I was only able to boot into fastboot mode and into the stock recovery. There I did factory reset and cache formatting several times but with no effect.
7. Only thing that still worked was the eRecovery function in the EMUI stock recovery. With this I was able to download some official firmware from Huawei automatically and the tablet was back to stock
8. This night the OS did an auto update to v215.
9. So this morning I repeated the step 2. from above but with a different a-only custom rom and again it didn't work out
10. I tried to use the eRecovery function to get back to stock, but now the recovery is broken and throws an error "Getting package info failed".
I also tried to download older firmware from https://androidhost.ru/ and flash it with the dload method. Without success of course. While doing it I receive an error "Software install failed!". I will attach a screenshot.
Can anybody give me a hint what I could do next to approach the problem?
Best
rob
Well, you didn't had TWRP as recovery, so no nandroid backup available. From one of my experiences with flashing a stock rom for acer, I had to delete some lines of code from the meta inf folder relating the version of the phone, in order to successfully flash it. Maybe the stock ROM you are trying has some lines of code detecting if bootloader unlocked.
Im also having trouble getting a good tutorial for getting rid of the os or just to have magisk on the tablet
You dowoad latest rom and flash stock via hru and. Twrp search xda
unbrick Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite

You can install these roms only if you can downgrade to update v177 and lower
Like me you need to Unbrick your mediapad m5 lite
First place need to go back in Fastboot mode.
So UNPLUG , turn off , wait a second and turn on with volume Down , when screen blink release power button and keep volume down pressed a second until Fastboot mode
Or, try to boot in Fastboot with volume down + power AND USB plugged in goes into fastboot, or TWRP if you flashed TWRP to RECOVERY2 instead to RECOVERY.
If doesnt work try the same plug or unplug cuz we have Recovery_ramdisk , eRecovery and eRecovery2
WHEN its okay and you can turn on fastboot mode
Second prepair the img's for unbricking
The LEGIT methods its come back stock rom , then you'll be able to do what you want.
Download Huawei Multi-Tools , Huawei Update Extractor and update.zip of your stock ROM and update_data_full
Then use Huawei Update Extractor to extract
system.img ramdisk.img recovery_ramdisk.img From update.app\update.zip and
Cust.img from update.app\update_full_public.zip.
If you have backup of your userdata.img its the time to put all together in the same directory before go futher.
If all its good , you just need to click unbrick.
Maybe i'll soon do a guide for unbrick and prevent brick , and how install twrp without losing data or encryption data

And just for the complete list:
Volume up + power AND USB plugged in goes into eRecovery (or TWRP, if you flashed TWRP to RECOVERY2 instead to RECOVERY)
Volume up and down + power and USB plugged in forces update via USB (indicated by a little USB-like icon in the recovery circle. The progess bar goes to 5% and waits for input from your PC)

It's for the 8" screen variant. It won't work on our 10.1"
is there any current custom house for this model because no links work. And on the stock, I have a problem with 5ghz Wi-Fi
You'd better install TWRP,flash FBE-disabler and format data partition
Anyway, firmware can be found at professorjtj.github.io and I recommend you rebrand and update it to EMUI9 to get better treble compatibility

Y9 2018 running Android 9 Custom ROM
(Havoc OS+MicroG)
Hi, so I landed on this forum a year ago, thinking that it would be impossible for me to one day unlock and tweak my Huawei Y9 2018.
Today everything works fine for me as I managed to install a custom ROM after unlocking the bootloader. I'll detail you step by step what I did, I'm new here so this is obviously not the only way, I'm just telling you what I did to make it work, and of course I am not responsible if anything wrong happens to your device, many times during the process I did things wrong and I bricked the phone, but you should always be able to come back to step 1 and restart fresh.
STEP ONE: INSTALL STOCK ANDROID 8 FIRMWARE (before June 2018 security patch)
For this step all you need is an SD card (and a computer if the phone is bricked).
Go to here and type in your phone model, I have the FLA-LX3 so I took this file which is at the bottom of the result list.
Afterthat extract the zip and copy the filed called update.APP to a folder called dload in your SD card.
Turn off your phone with the SD card placed inside and boot it from the SD card. To do that, you have to press volume up and power button at the same time for 5 seconds.
The installation should start and you will soon boot back in Android 8.0.0. Quickly reach the settings to check if you have successfully downgraded before June 2018. Otherwise the rest won't work. Finally, rename dload folder in your SD card to something else so that next time your phone won't try to install a system from the SD card.
STEP TWO: FIND YOUR BOOTLOADER CODE
If you already know your bootloader code, directly go to step 3.
This is a tricky part, as you already know there is no official way to get your bootloader code. There are different approaches to get the code. Both need a computer.
A free one can be found here but I didn't use it personally. It's a simple brute force attack to find the code, it can be extremely long so most probably not the best one.
A second option, which is most used is the DC-unlocker tool for Windows that will find the bootloader code in couple of seconds. You have to use 4 credits (4$) to perform the action "Huawei Qualcomm Read Bootloader Code (up to Android 8)". The tutorial can be found here
Once you know your code, save it everywhere !!!
STEP THREE: UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
For this step you will need a computer with ADB and Fastboot commands. (download the command line tool for Windows/Mac/linux from here)
Go to phone settings, activate OEM unlock and USB debugging (you might need a WiFi connection to enable OEM unlock). If you type adb devices in your shell you should see you device in the list.
Type adb reboot bootloader to enter fastboot mode.
If you type in fastboot devices you should see again your device in the list.
Type in fastboot oem unlock *paste your code here*
On our device confirm unlock and the device will reboot after a factory reset.
STEP FOUR: FIND THE RIGHT GENERIC SYSTEM IMAGE
There is no official custom ROM for Huawei Y9 2018 but the phone is compatible with Generic system images, which are universal ROMs (all listed here). To be sure quickly reach the browser to download Treble Check app from here. This app will tell you wether or not you can install GSI images on your phone. If Projet Treble is ticked then you are good to go. If Seamless updates is ticked then you have an A/B system, if not then you have an AONLY system. Finally the CPU Architecture tab should tell you if you are on ARM64 or something else.
The GSI rom I chose is Havoc OS, it is the most compatible for Huawei phones. It is an Android 9 rom built on top of Lineage OS and adds up some functionalities, fixes for Huawei phones, and signature spoofing for MicroG to work. Go to this link and choose the right Havoc version based on the Treble Check app.
STEP FIVE: INSTALL HAVOC OS
Once you downloaded the connect img file connect your phone again and enable USB debugging, type in adb reboot bootloader to enter fastboot, and enter fastboot flash system *GSI rom path*
Once done, unplug device from computer and reboot to eRecovery by holding power and volume up for 5 seconds (just like in step 1 so make sure no SD card with dload folder is placed inside the phone). Once in eRecovery perform a factory reset and after that hit reboot system. Your device should now boot with Havoc OS !
STEP SIX: install F-Droid MicroG and Aurora Store (Alternatives to Google ecosystem)
Go to the browser and install F-droid from their official site. Next add the MicroG repo to F-droid to install and activate all the replacements to Google services. You can finally install Aurora Store from F-droid which replaces the official Play Store.
That's it folks!

Hi there these steps seems easy enough.
But I had to ask why you chose android 9 and will higher versions work correctly?

Install TWRP for SM-A105FN/DS(LineageOS 19 too!)

So basically why im doing this thread is because there are a lot of open questions to install twrp/root on the SM-A105FN/DS so after i sucessfully did i wanna share the way here:
1.The first step we all now: Settings>About Phone>Spam click BuildVersion till the toast says youre a developer<Back to Settings>Developer Settings>Enable OEM Unlocking.
2. Turn off your Phone.
3. Sucessfully turned it of? Nice! now hold up and down key and plug your phone in(Dont Press the Power button!)
4. Now your on the Pre-Screen from the download section, press and hold the volume up key(!!!WARNING THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA!!!)
5. Get back into Download mode. this time only press Volume up shortly.
6. Open ODIN(FIle Attached), uncheck auto-reboot in options tab, and flash vbmeta_disabled.tar in AP slot.
7. Now reboot your phone but get instantly back into Download Mode.
8. Flash attached TWRP(Only this one seems to work)
9. Congrats you sucessfully installed TWRP on Your A10! but were not done yet!
10. Instantly boot into TWRP(Otherwise you will brick your FW)
11. In TWRP allow writing by swiping
12. Go to Install and move Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_10.28.2020.zip to your SD or Internal Storage.(From your PC) and install it with twrp(leave as it is and just swipe!)
13. Congrats everything should work now. the following steps are optional
13.5 CLEAR CACHE DALVIK CACHE AND DATA FOR THE FOLLOWING STEPS
14. Move the lineage os file to your SD or Internal storage(Download Here or from Attached FIles)
15. Install with TWRP(install gapps as needed (Can be Found by googling Android 12 Gapps!))
16. Clear Dalvik/Art Cache
17. Enjoy Lineage OS
Hi, I'm kind of newbie, and using a SM A105-FN.
I successfully installed lineage OS with your tutorial.
I'd like to install lineage OS without GAPPS. So, I tried, but lineage is bootlooping.
Is it possible to install lineage Os without Gapps ? Or uninstall gapps?

Question Latest Twrp pros and cons

Today the unlock time for bootloader to unlock will complete and I Intend to install TWRP. I have found the latest officially supported twrp-3.6.1_11-0-alioth.img at https://eu.dl.twrp.me/alioth/. How does it compare to TWRP-3.5.1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-unofficial-twrp-3-5-1-20210702.4300189/.
Can anyone guide me what are the pros and cons of using twrp-3.6.1_11-0-alioth.img and its limitations as compared to TWRP-3.5.1 as I can not find any documentation on twrp-3.6.1_11-0-alioth.img. Any help will be appreciated.
Also does the following limitations of TWRP-3.5.1 also apply to twrp-3.6.1_11-0-alioth.img ?
KNOWN LIMITATIONS:
The following are some known limitations due to either the design nature of Virtual A/B or a problem with ROM themselves. Please read carefully :-
You cannot format data after flashing a ROM zip (Limitation of Virtual A/B). If you want to format, then reboot recovery after flashing ROM. Additionally, if you are encrypted, the newly flashed ROM must be able to decrypt your device. If not, then you have to format data before flashing the ROM It appears, you can actually format data after reboot even if the new ROM cannot decrypt.
You can flash only one ROM in one boot. If you wanna flash another ROM, you must boot to system once. This is again a limitation of Virtual A/B.
Once you have rebooted after flashing a ROM, you cannot write to the data partition until you boot successfully to the new ROM. Android seals the data partition after a ROM flash to prevent any accidental brick since the newly flashed ROM is actually stored in /data. Only data format is allowed in this case. Once you successfully boot to the new ROM, your storage becomes ready for writing again.
Ideally, after flashing a new ROM, you should only need to wipe your data rather than format. But, due to a problem in the device trees current ROMs are using, you will have to format data if you are currently on miui and want to switch to a custom ROM. Specifically, the roms need this commit and to set vendor security patch level to fix this issue. Switching between custom ROMs should not need format, except for hentai OS.
If you are currently on hentai OS, then before using TWRP, you must flash vendor_boot from the link provided in every hentai OS release. Otherwise, you will get black screen. This is only needed when you boot to TWRP for the first time. Do not repeat this step again. Also, do not try this with beta version of the ROM. Use it only with stable.
If you reboot to older slot after flashing new ROM, the new ROM will be cancelled and you will have to reflash again. This is because of how Virtual A/B works.
If you must flash magisk via recovery (it's not recommended now), please uncheck "Inject TWRP after install" else TWRP will remove magisk.
Do not flash magisk after flashing a ROM before reboot. Magisk's zip detects slot in a different way that will cause issues.
Backuptool (used to persist magisk and gapps across ROM updates) will also not work in recovery due to A/B. You will have to flash gapps (or any other zips) everytime after flashing a ROM.

I know where the lastest TWRP for Poco F3 is and how to install it as I have already installed it. That was not the question. The question was that "does limitations of TWRP-3.5.1 also apply to twrp-3.6.1_11-0'? Limitattions like being forced to reboot TWRP after flashing a every single zip file and other limitations like it as mentioned above. Thanks for your reply anyways.
so for me, TWRP does not start again, after installing a file.
I install TWRP, boot into TWRP again and install Magisk. after that I boot into the ROM.
TWRP does not restart itself
So, still no decryption on A12?
I wanted to test new custom roms but i dont want to have to reinstall everything from scratch if i go back to my current rom (.EU).
Can twrp make a full backup and restore it despite not having decryption?
If it cant, can I make a full back up of my phone from cmd in fastboot mode? (so i can just flash it from fastboot to restore everything as it is now)
