[MIUI 13.0.8] Mute notifications, allow calls - Xiaomi Mi 10T / 10T Pro Questions & Answers

Heya,
so, as the title says, I'm having issues muting the notification and app sounds, while still allowing phone calls to get through and ring the phone out loud.
In the past, this was achievable by the Do Not Disturb mode. Right now however, it doesn't mute notifications anymore, as that is now done by the new "silent" mode. But that one also mutes incoming calls, which is completely unusable for me (I have occasional on-call nights when I need to be available on my phone, even if I'm sleeping, yet find the constant pinging of the apps super annoying).
The only working solution I found was to go into notification settings and block notifications from most of the very frequent apps... Which is annoying, as I also have to not forget to toggle the notifications back the next day.
Is there still a way to achieve the "Mute media and notifications, keep calls" combo in Android 12 + MIUI 13? Thanks!

On most phones the phone ringtone and notification volume is separate, is that not the case in your device?

Unfortunately not, instead, I have media, calls and alarm clock (as seen in the screen).
If I mute media, I still get notification and call sounds. If I mute the bell, I no longer get either. Dnd has no effect on the notification sounds.

This certainly sucks, can't every smartphone company share good things from each other instead of adopting all the bad changes. look around on Google maybe there are apps for this.

Hey have you found any solution? As I'm also struggling with same problem

It sucks, but until they fix it, you can use this app.
On the downside, it not only mutes sound, but completely mutes the notification including the badges , though. Anyone please post if you have a better solution.

i know im late. but i found a fix. (kinda) if you remove your notification sound completely. through settings, notifications and vobrations, notification sound and then while in the themes app. ringtone, and then no romg tone. even tho i thaught it changed the ringtone. if you go through settings first. ot will change the notification sound and not the ringtone. hope this helped

While waiting patiently for A13 ROMs for my current daily driver to mature a bit more I am using a silent audio file for the notification sound. I can't believe all these years MIUI still doesn't have an option to unlink calls and notification volume.

Notification sound questions

Is there a separate setting where I can turn only the notification to vibrate while leaving the phone ringtone on? I receive emails at middle of the night and it always wakes me up. At the same time, I do want incoming calls to wake me up.
Another issue. when I previously switched the phone from vibrate to sound in the notification drawer, it would make a beep noise. But today it doesn't make that sound anymore. Did i disable something somewhere?
Get Silent Time Lite on the market. Allows you to set times to quiet the phone but allow exceptions for the phone. So you can set it to ring for only contacts you highlight.
No idea about your second issue.

Settings > Sounds > Volume > System.
Maybe you put the system sounds volume down?? Hope this helps
I have put the system volume all the way up. The sound came back the day before, and I cannot get it to play again last night after I turned it from vibrate to ring.
Mine did that for a little while too. Fixed itself eventually.

separating the Ring and Notification volume levels

Anyone have any sort of work around to enable independent control of the ringer and notification volume levels in ICS? Do any of the custom Roms have this ability?

No, they don't. Try this. Download Lightflow if you don't already have it, and try and set the notification tone for texting through that. I read somewhere the other day that the Lightflow notification will either override the global system volume or the other way around. I'm not exactly sure but download Lightflow and poke around in there.
It had something to do with setting the text volume in lightflow and the ringer volume with the global notifications.
Goodluck.
Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I have been using a profile application for a work around just like lightflow is doing, except with more functionaliTY. Basically I have been using Setting Profiles to set an incoming text messages or SMS message always to a profile with a particular ringtone, at a particular volume level. Same for phone calls. Then set exceptions to profiles for vibrate, silent, etc. That way at night I can tell my phone to go to silent but with an exception for phone calls. This is basically saying be quiet for notification sounds, but not for phone calls. There are other exceptions and possibilities but the end result is separate ringer and notification volumes. I can explain more if you are interested.
Does this work with other notifications like Google* or Twitter as wella sms?

Unfortunately I don't think so. But I also use LightFlow and I don't see where it lets you choose the volume level of the notification so it doesn't quite do the job either.
What I do is set my ringer volume to what I want it to be for notifications (any notification as controlled by the program the notification is coming from). Then I set rules for incoming calls and SMS (which is what SettingProfiles supports) to sound at a different ringer volume. That way I have effectively "separated" my volumes and still am able to have unique ringtones for the different applications that support it. Examples are:
1. Make a profile for Silent
2. Make a profile for Ringer set to max
3. Make rule in SettingProfiles for incoming calls to activate the Ringer profile
4. Put phone in Silent profile (ringer speaker completely muted so no ring or notifications)
5. Phone call comes in and Incoming call rule activates the Ringer profile for that call
The result is all notifications are silenced. I get an incoming call and it triggers the ring rule so my phone will still ring. Once the incoming call stops (either i answer it or it goes to vmail or whatever), it exits the Ringer rule and goes back to the state it was in before, which is my Silent profile.
The way I'm doing it, you don't need an application that handles notifications for each application. It's just changing your ringer volume based on different conditions. It only supports incoming call, unread SMS/MMS, schedule, time period, etc, though. But that's fine for me because I usually want all notifications to be whatever volume I've set my speaker to, except for phone calls and text messages, which under certain conditions, I always want to be allowed to sound, and sound loudly at maximum volume.
I use LightFlow to repeat notify for text messages and missed calls and change the notifications for various apps it supports, but all that is for is changing the LED, ringtone, repeat notify, etc. It doesn't do anything for the volume of any of those notifications, at least not specifically supported in the application anyway.
I use SettingProfiles to change the VOLUME of my speaker based on rules and priorities and use LightFlow to change the TYPE of notifications I receive in various applications.

Any way to turn notification sounds off while on a call?

If I receive emails or have calendar event come due while on a call, I get the notification sounds playing in my ear while I am trying to listen to my caller. I cannot find a way to disable these sounds while I can connected to a call. Am I just missing something or is this a limitation?
I don't think there is. It is super annoying. It happened to me last week on a very important business call. I got several notifications while on that call and couldn't hear some of what the person on the other end was saying, it was loud enough that I thought even maybe they heard it.
Yes! Thanks for bringing this up. I'd love to at least make them quieter! I've had friends who tend to send multiple messages; I keep getting multiple alerts during a single call. It's very distracting.
Settings - System - ringtones and sounds - just untick what you don't want and choose "none" to any email, voicemail, sound alert.

That will just turn those sounds off all the time. That's not what we want. We only want those sounds off or a lot lower while on a call.
During a call the notification sounds are extremely loud and very distracting.

I guess that is not an option given the weird missing features WP7. (ringtone customization, ability to change volumes separately, having the ability to quickly choose between ring + vibrate, vibrate only, do not vibrate nor ring at all)

no ringtone on phone calls?

So kind of a weird issue that I've never experienced even on custom Roms. My phones ringtone has stopped working. It will vibrate and always receives calls, I have notification sounds and alarms work just fine but the phone never actually rings it only vibrates. I've tried all the setting thru the quick menus and digging thru the settings. I've tried changing ringtones, using different ringtones, vibration on and off and I can't figure it out. This is a recent problem as the the ringtone did work before but has stopped since. Any help would be appreciated.

get zedge from play store get any ringtone download then set as default ringtone see if that works
I'm pretty sure that I've been having issues with it not ringing properly when in my pocket. Either it's not ringing at all or it's so quiet it's inaudible. I just turned off "pocket mode" and "quiet ring on pickup" in sound settings. Haven't got the chance to test whether one of those settings is the cause yet, but I have a feeling one of them is.

In 6.0, how do I put device on silent and still receive notifications?

Just like the title says, how do I mute the sounds on my Nexus 7 but still receive notifications in the notification panel? Right now, if I mute the device, it goes into "alarms only" mode and I don't get notifications.
I can mute the alarm sound but I still get notifications! Maybe it's another bug! Did you clean install Marshmallow or did OTA?
I think you misread my post. I don't want the alarm sound muted; I want the notifications sound muted. It's not a bug, it's a feature of Marshmallow that I'm just not familiar with how to setup properly. I came from CM 12.1 and on that ROM you could just turn the volume down to 0 without any sort of Do Not Disturb mode activating.
I just want the device to be silent, but still receive all my notifications on the notification bar.
