separating the Ring and Notification volume levels - Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Anyone have any sort of work around to enable independent control of the ringer and notification volume levels in ICS? Do any of the custom Roms have this ability?

No, they don't. Try this. Download Lightflow if you don't already have it, and try and set the notification tone for texting through that. I read somewhere the other day that the Lightflow notification will either override the global system volume or the other way around. I'm not exactly sure but download Lightflow and poke around in there.
It had something to do with setting the text volume in lightflow and the ringer volume with the global notifications.
Goodluck.
Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I have been using a profile application for a work around just like lightflow is doing, except with more functionaliTY. Basically I have been using Setting Profiles to set an incoming text messages or SMS message always to a profile with a particular ringtone, at a particular volume level. Same for phone calls. Then set exceptions to profiles for vibrate, silent, etc. That way at night I can tell my phone to go to silent but with an exception for phone calls. This is basically saying be quiet for notification sounds, but not for phone calls. There are other exceptions and possibilities but the end result is separate ringer and notification volumes. I can explain more if you are interested.
Does this work with other notifications like Google* or Twitter as wella sms?

Unfortunately I don't think so. But I also use LightFlow and I don't see where it lets you choose the volume level of the notification so it doesn't quite do the job either.
What I do is set my ringer volume to what I want it to be for notifications (any notification as controlled by the program the notification is coming from). Then I set rules for incoming calls and SMS (which is what SettingProfiles supports) to sound at a different ringer volume. That way I have effectively "separated" my volumes and still am able to have unique ringtones for the different applications that support it. Examples are:
1. Make a profile for Silent
2. Make a profile for Ringer set to max
3. Make rule in SettingProfiles for incoming calls to activate the Ringer profile
4. Put phone in Silent profile (ringer speaker completely muted so no ring or notifications)
5. Phone call comes in and Incoming call rule activates the Ringer profile for that call
The result is all notifications are silenced. I get an incoming call and it triggers the ring rule so my phone will still ring. Once the incoming call stops (either i answer it or it goes to vmail or whatever), it exits the Ringer rule and goes back to the state it was in before, which is my Silent profile.
The way I'm doing it, you don't need an application that handles notifications for each application. It's just changing your ringer volume based on different conditions. It only supports incoming call, unread SMS/MMS, schedule, time period, etc, though. But that's fine for me because I usually want all notifications to be whatever volume I've set my speaker to, except for phone calls and text messages, which under certain conditions, I always want to be allowed to sound, and sound loudly at maximum volume.
I use LightFlow to repeat notify for text messages and missed calls and change the notifications for various apps it supports, but all that is for is changing the LED, ringtone, repeat notify, etc. It doesn't do anything for the volume of any of those notifications, at least not specifically supported in the application anyway.
I use SettingProfiles to change the VOLUME of my speaker based on rules and priorities and use LightFlow to change the TYPE of notifications I receive in various applications.

Ringer and Notification volume the same ?
I am not happy that both the ringtones + notifications are set to the same volume. I like my ringer low and notification sound loud. Anyway to separate them ? Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The only workaround is know now is choosing wisely your sounds or editing the tag if it is mp3. My grandma beat me down and took my nexus. Sent from a jitterbug with beats by dre.
I haven't found an official way to separate them. Google tied them together. I'very always used Setting Profiles to trigger profiles based on rules. I've just had to modify my rules and profiles with ICS now. You could use SP to create a rule to trigger a profile. Make 2 profiles. One profile would set the ringer volume to 100%. Another profile wshould set it to 50%. Make a rule to trigger when there is an incoming call and the action should be to set the ring loud profile. The other rule should be set to trigger on an incoming text message. Make the aftion to set the ring soft profile. You will need to make some exceptions for situations like when you put your phone on vibrate or silent. I've just made my own silent and vibrate profiles and put my phone in silent or vibrate using my the profiles instead of I. The android sound menus or using the volume rocker. Then the 2 rules can be modify to trigger on incoming text or call but not when the vibrate or silent profiles are active. I've also done a rule to trigger at night and set my ringer to silent. I set my incoming call rule to a higher priority so that it overrides the night profile and momentarily allows the phone to ring. I like for my phone to be quiet if it is charging at night (typically means I'm sleeping) but still ring in case of an emergency. It was much simpler with previous versions of android, but I've got the work around now. You can do this with other programs too like locale or tasked. I just prefer setting profiles personally after trying many. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
[Q] Phone rings in silent mode
Hey Guys, i have a question, my nexus is ringing when i have it set to silent mode. The ring is not the normal ringtone.. when the call is received, there is a short ringing sound, the LED flashes and then it goes silent. all texts/emails are silent in silent mode its just phone calls show that ring-ring then go silent. I am stock/rooted. Im not really sure what is going on here.. Any ideas? i looked through all the setting on the phone and couldnt find anything related to this. Thanks so much for any help
Are you using any profile switching applications or apps that change your sound levels? I used to get this on my Droid sometimes when using a profile switching app. The app would say I was silent, and my volume levels were down, but on an incoming sound from twitter would still make it through, like the app didn't respond fast enough.
[Q] Silent Mode Incoming Call
I currently have Tasker set up to bump up the ringer volume of an incoming call from a specific contact. It works fine if the volume is at 1 or higher but if the phone is on silent it sets the volume to 7 (I set it to display, so I can see the volume being maxed) but the phone doesn't ring. I did digging and found that on some phones if the ringer is silent when the call is incoming it doesn't load the ring tone so if the volume is maxed after still it wouldn't ring. I have also read other post with people who have the GNex who have a similar Tasker set up to the one I am looking to create. Which implies that the GNex is not one of the phone which remains silent if the phone was silent when the call came in. Can any one confirm? Thanks. I am rooted/stock. My tasker profile is very simple. State > incoming call from xxxxx contact. Task Ringer Volume to level 7.
I still don't know the answer to this question but in case someone else has a similar problem, With Tasker I just modified by Profile a little State> Incoming Call. Task If VOLR = 0 set VOLR level 7 Play Ringtone Else Set VOLR Level 7 Endif Not sure if thats the best way to do it but it appears to be working.

If my phone is in silent and I get an incoming call from one of those I filtered it gets loud... After the call the phone gets back to silent mode..
Setting, App, or ROM to facilitate muting phone except call vibration
I would like my phone to lower all sound and turn off all vibration EXCEPT incoming call vibration at night. I've tried a few different apps and programming in Tasker but since setting silent mode overwrites the call volume setting I can't do it that way, and I can't manipulate the vibrate on notify setting. This stems from the fact that ringer and notification are both linked. I am rooted and really don't want to flash a ROM to unlink the two.
[MIUI 13.0.8] Mute notifications, allow calls
Heya, so, as the title says, I'm having issues muting the notification and app sounds, while still allowing phone calls to get through and ring the phone out loud. In the past, this was achievable by the Do Not Disturb mode. Right now however, it doesn't mute notifications anymore, as that is now done by the new "silent" mode. But that one also mutes incoming calls, which is completely unusable for me (I have occasional on-call nights when I need to be available on my phone, even if I'm sleeping, yet find the constant pinging of the apps super annoying). The only working solution I found was to go into notification settings and block notifications from most of the very frequent apps... Which is annoying, as I also have to not forget to toggle the notifications back the next day. Is there still a way to achieve the "Mute media and notifications, keep calls" combo in Android 12 + MIUI 13? Thanks!
On most phones the phone ringtone and notification volume is separate, is that not the case in your device?

As I'm also struggling with same problem
It sucks, but until they fix it, you can use this app. On the downside, it not only mutes sound, but completely mutes the notification including the badges , though. Anyone please post if you have a better solution.
i know im late. but i found a fix. (kinda) if you remove your notification sound completely. through settings, notifications and vobrations, notification sound and then while in the themes app. ringtone, and then no romg tone. even tho i thaught it changed the ringtone. if you go through settings first. ot will change the notification sound and not the ringtone. hope this helped
While waiting patiently for A13 ROMs for my current daily driver to mature a bit more I am using a silent audio file for the notification sound. I can't believe all these years MIUI still doesn't have an option to unlink calls and notification volume.
