Has anyone had good experience with using Pimp My Rom and a custom kernel such as KKO? I've always heard people talk about Pimp My Rom in the comments on so many ROMs and Kernels that I tried it for myself and not sure how the performance will be. I'm more of a battery first kind of person who can bare a little bit of lag. Anyone have some good advice or had really excellent results and care to share their setup? I know kernels and governors vary on device and the user but just would like to see. I apologize if this is already posted but it seems to be a dead topic and dont want to revive a very very old one.
Hello everyone.
I'll make it quick... In YOUR opinion and or from what you heard... What is the best rom/kernal combo for this phone?
I am currently using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849748
Would love to keep ICS....
Is there any better for battery life then this? I am also looking for stability of course but better battery life would be awesome.
Also.... I am not tooooo sure how kernals work... But for the rom I have on now... Could I pair it with any kernal? Or does it have to be a kernal that would work WITH that rom... Not too sure how kernals work really.... More or less just use the kernal that come with the roms...
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
So I've been running JBSourcery4.4 and have been loving it so far. As of right now I'm wondering about a kernel change with this ROM to maybe improve battery life. Any suggestions would be helpful. So far I've been thinking of tiny kernel. Sorry for the repetitive question but I'm just curious to see what other people have been trying. Thank you.
every device is different so what works for great me wont necessarily work great for you...anyway i have tried ALL kernels and AK has been working the best for me on 4.2.1, link is in my sig
Hello everyone
First i want to congrats all the persons how make all this tutorials, they really help me a lot.
And now the questions, i already read the forum and the rules and i know i cant ask for compare any roms or kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2097137) but i still need a few lights.
I need a kernel and a rom that help me save battery and can be fast enough for applications.
The last 2 i use was CM10 and FreeXperia kernel, and now i am using kernel vengeance and Xperia Ultimate HD 3.0. I test both with Antutu Benchmark and give me 4800 with Xperia Ultimate HD, and 5800 with CM10.
There is any combination Kernel/Rom that can help me make higher score and at same time save battery?
Many thanks

Welcome to xda forums.
It's useless to say that you have seen the rules and you still make this thread, the only answer that you should get and probably the only one you will get, is this one:
TRY yourself each ROM from the Android Development forums, and then you will see which one suits your needs, and serves you the best.
Also, don't forget that AnTuTu scores aren't 100% reliable, and they're based mainly on Governors, I/O schedulers and CPU Frequencies, it's not that reliable because I myself get better gaming performance with a Governor that gave me 5300, than with one that gave me 6000, they are just numbers.

Like above post said, try out the different ROM and kernel combinations yourself as the resulting performance is different for everyone because of the different settings you use and the different apps you install on your phone. If you want to find the most suitable kernel for your phone, check the ROM thread. Each ROM thread should have a list of recommended kernels that will work best with the ROM. For example, Jader recommended LuPuS kernel for his UHD ROM. However, if LuPuS does not work well for you, you can always try out other kernels in the recommended list. It differs with each user.
As for benchmark, it only gives a general idea of your phone's performance. It is not accurate enough to genuinely gauge phone performance. The one who determines that is yourself. Only you can tell if the performance is good by trying it out yourself.

Thanks for the replies.
I did like both sugested, trying. I tryied a ICS Rom and i didnt like it. So far the only one that i like most was CM10.1, the kernel i use was the included in the Rom. Work all allrigth.
Anyway sorry for the questions, i just wanted to make sure before starting flashing my phone.

Hi, i just wanted to ask if you guys think if stock or custom roms are better because i dont want to take an hour to format my n7 to answer a simple question So what do you think is the fastest for games (heavy 3d ones) and performance wise? stock or other custom roms. I dont really care for other features, i care for mostly the performance. Thanks and happy easter!

Hi and happy easter too !
Generally customs are not faster than the Google stock. But with customs kernels/ROMs, OverClocking and OverVolting is possible, so you can have better performance.
I'm actually using CM11 Nightlies with the latest ElementalX Kernel. I love CM and other innovative and fiddled customs, because they open a lot of possibilities, like theme or other exclusive features. Personally, i'm not a fan of OC and OV, it reduce battery life, and hardware life because of overheating.
Maybe my choices are not the better one, but it's my choices.
For my part, CM ROMs have in general i've seen a better battery performance than stocks, because they're decrapified.
that's all ;p
If you're looking for the best performance I would suggest Clean ROM latest version with either Elemental X kernel or Glitch kernel. Your N7 will be smoking fast!

Thanks for your answers :victory: I think im going to stick with CleanRom+elementalx :good:
Great choice!
