Charge port replacement but now no signal. - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hi there. I recently change the charging board on my note 10 plus but since then I have had no signal. It seemed a pretty easy swap with no complications when fitting. Anyone have any ideas?
My phone is a note 10 plus N9750.
Thank you
Kind regards
Jonny

Ah that will be a shame, I was hoping not to buy a new phone just yet. I have ordered another board just to see if that fixes it.

Wrong PCB. There's more than one variant for the N10+!
It happened to me, no phone or internet connection.
Check the old PCB for it's PN, that's the one you need. It will work perfectly once it has the right part

Ah I was wondering that. I have the N9750 as I was being cheap and got it from abroad on ebay.
I stupidly chucked the old one away as it looked like it was all fine but it was just wifi calling I had.

Been there, done that. Rude surprises

My mate has the same model as me. I am hoping he may let me take the back off .
Thanks for all your help. Least I have a good idea what the issue is.

[Q] Phone stopped charging?

My phone just doesn't charge anymore.. I've googled and googled. I found one page where a guy said to push up on the tongue of the port to get it centered, but that didnt help at all. I've tried multiple cords with no luck. So I have two questions. What is better to go to for help. My verizon store? Or talk to them on the phone? And if i do, would i need to return to stock? No wait, 3.. if i do need to return to stock, how would i do that with a dead phone? I posted a question on rootz aswell with no solutions yet, maybe y'all will have some ideas. Thanks ahead!

Had the same problem recently. It's a hardware issue, the only way to fix is to change the board inside the phone than contains the USB port.
And there is unfortunately no way of re-locking the bootloader, since your phone won't get a connection to a computer due to the dead port.
I looked around in an local Android forum and found someone who could fix my phone for a very fair price. The USB board is not expensive, you can get one on ebay for about 10 dollars
Hop this helps.

Thanks for the response, Im chatting with samsung support right now. Do you have the link of the repair guy?

Galaxy nexys water repair.

So, i've come into a galaxy nexus, that took a swim some time ago (several months).
It powers on, appears to work, other than a few things. And i'm wondering if these are things that might be repairable.
It appears to read a sim card (moved my card from my Droid 4), but it doesnt appear to find service. I assumed it would at least allow me to dial the *228 programming number, it doesnt even let me do that.
WiFi works.
The camera does not appear to work. Opening the camera app, it waits a short time, and then just crashes. I assume this is because the camera module is water damaged.
So. I suspect i'm dealing with an otherwise working device, with a failed camera module, and maybe cdma/lte module.
Can these be replaced? Is it worth the expense?
Thanks!
Edit - sorry for the typo in the title...
My one and only answer.
Buy a new one. If it works, then just extract the data out of it and put it in the computer.
U never know how much the repair will be.

Yea.. if i wanted to spend $700 on it, i'd do that... Point is, i got this thing for free, and if i can get it working for less than $700, i make out in the end.
I'm looking to buy parts and repair this thing myself, for fun, i'm not depending on the thing, i have a working Droid 4 that i use as my cel phone. If i get this thing working for cheap, i may switch to it.
Thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, really, but $350 still is not equal to free.
If i decide i want a nexus so badly that i'd pay even $350, i'll go this route. For now, i'm trying to cobble this one back together.

Looks like I got the camera working! I took the phone apart, disconnected the camera module, and reconnected it. Boom! camera works.
I also disconnected a number of other parts while i was in there, not sure if any of them was the cel service module. I did disconnect an antenna, though i think that's for wifi.
Cel service still seems to be no-go.

At the very least if you can't get the mobile network working you'd have a pretty sweet Nexus4.65 that has a camera
Sell that thing on ebay for maybe 50-100 bucks and get a new one.
Or go to the market you've bought that and ask how much they want for repair.
umm... 700$? I thought the price for the galaxy nexus is now about 300-400$..
Unbelievable, i think i've fixed it.
Opened it up again, and took a close look at that antenna module. Now that I knew what I was looking for.
Disconencted it, and found that one of the antenna leads had come off.
Connected it, put it back together, put in my sim, IT WORKS!
Gonna use it for a little, see if i find anyting else wrong with it. I think i may have just gotten a free nexus!
And the $700 was an estimate. The guy who gave me this phone, said he paid over 600 for a replacement from verizon after he dunked it.
Ouch.
The GSM model on the google market seems to be $350. This is the verizon model, and apparently they absolutely rape you when you buy one.

From what I hear from Americans about Verizon, that's all they do to everyone
So far so good. Ive been using it as my primary phone since i got it working yesterday. Played audio from it in the car last night and this morning. Used my Bluetooth headset with it last night. So far so good.
I want to get a car dock for it, the 3-pin kind. Just hope that 3-pin connector is working. I dont have any way to test that.
you can always check here if you need any replacement parts: http://www.parts4repair.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/

nexus not charging

i know it is already posted but my issue is different. Some can charge their phone when it is off but mine cant charge even if its off.
When its off and i plug the charger the lightning logo appears, it indicates that its charging but when i turn it on the percentage of the battery remained the same. it didnt charge at all. Also my pc does not recognize my phone whether if its off or on.
i tried with no luck changing rom, kernel, used different cables and chargers (i even used one from LG).
i want to take it back to samsung but my bootloader is unlocked, im using costume rom, and rooted. They will not accept or repair it
EDIT: i want to install the stock rom and relock bootloader but how? since my pc doesnt connect to my phone

Use a cocktail stick and try push the chipinside your phone slot upwards a little (if the phone were laid faceup on a table). Be delicate as you dont want to force it, but a little nudge up and your problems should aaaaall be resolved.
ive already done that no luck.
bump!
if i can restore my phone to stock recovery, stock rom, stock kernel, remove root will they accept it(warranty)? or do they have something to know that i modified my phone?
EDIT: because im planning to return in back to samsung

Is it a play store model or international? If it is international and you are located in the USA, Samsung will not do it. You can replace the usb port yourself..
mine too
Mine did the exact same thing. Good luck sending it in and having them actually fix it. I'm beginning to think their tech guys are really just a room full of chimps randomly putting stuff together.
I told them exactly what the problem was (because I looked it up before sending it in and my problem was the exact same as everyone else's) and they ignored me and just switched out the battery. That didn't work, so I sent it back again. Then, they updated the software. Since it's a hardware issue, obviously that did nothing. Now, they have repaired the PBA. I don't know what a PBA is or what it has to do with my USB port, but I'm betting the issue still will not be fixed and I'll have to send it back, yet again. After all this mess, I think I'm done with Samsung entirely.

probably the repair shop where you took your phone are just too lazy to repair. I hope they wont do the mess they did to you but i think it depends on tech guys if they are lazy enough to repair.

This is kind of what my phone is doing too (here's the thread i've made)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059289
It will charge, but only to a certain point, regardless of rom, kernel, on or off, etc
over the past few days the maximum charge has gone down and down. Now it only charges to a max of 82%. I have 2 batteries and it does the same thing on each. My (hopeful) solution is that i bought an external wall battery charger and will charge batteries that way. I have the verizon model so if i wanted to do some sort of warranty work i'd probably have to go through them (not even sure if im still covered). I really dont want to deal with it. It boggles my mind why my phone is doing this though, charges fine but not to full. Oh well c'est la vie.

i wouldnt recommend that to people, for me it went from a phone with "phantom charging" (ie flashing on and off for charging) and issues charging to a short circuit on the usb connection, so that the phone switches off when a usb cable is plugged in. What is well worth trying first is simply giving the port a good clean, a little bit of alcohol and that same cocktail stick may well solve your issue. I've been left charging via a chopped up usb cable to the dock connectors.
i dont doubt that forcing the tab in the port may have worked for you, but it has failed badly for others (ie me), so just be careful suggesting it
I had a similar problem as my micro usb socket was damaged. Don't worry about sending it for repair, do it yourself. The circuit board with a new micro usb socket is available on ebay, I paid £5 for mine. Watch a tear-down video or 2 on youtube and you will be sorted.
The GNex is easy to take apart requiring just a small philips head screwdriver and a pry tool, i used a guitar pik, and these are also available on ebay for just a few ££'s.
Can do the whole job in 15 minutes.

[Q] Broken screen, can't tear down device.

So I got home one night, turned on my tablet and the left corner's back light was darker than the rest. the logical thing to do is to restart the device and hope that it's an software issue. Unfortunately, it wasn't, now I have a note 10.1 that has no back light and I can not see a thing on it. The devices is rooted so Samsung will not be covering the warranty. I contacted them and they directed me to a third party repair shop after giving me 3 fake phone numbers. Story of my life...
So now I want to repair it myself but first I need to take off the cover. Anyone have experience taking apart this device? I don't want to inflect any unnecessary physical damage to the device. it seems like a pretty solid unit and I haven't been able to find anything online with the 2014 edition.
I would brick it completely and pass it through warranty. If you kill the bootloader they won't be able to tell if it was rooted or not.
no that won't work. When I called they asked me where I got the device from, I told them it was off of ebay and they said they are not covering it.
I couldn't get it in Canada at the time because the freaken thing wasn't even released here yet.

Why should it matter where it's from if the product has failed then the product has failed and they should fix it as long as its within warranty and the device hasn't been tampered with physically! Honestly some company policies bug the hell out of me * Rant over!

Btw have you contacted the ebay seller you bought it off? Maybe the company you bought it off could help you somehow i.e. maybe they could send it back to Samsung since they'd be the initial customer - I don't really know tbh but worth a shot atleast complaining to the ebay seller about your problem.

loose connector might actually be the issue but I can't tell if Idk how to open the damn thing.
The third party repair shop Samsung directed me to asks for $150 for screen replacement.
I don't want to pay extra if loose cable is the issue.
I probably should contact the ebay sales person too.

Flashing the wrong stuff. It's easier than it looks. I'm saying this because that was pretty common on the nexus 7 and they covered it under warranty. I replaced one no problem.
If you know exactly where it is flashing the bootloader through Odin it's as easy as pull the cable off.

That's really weird, they should cover it as long as it is an official product. I bought the Nexus on US and fixed it in Europe no problem. Honestly, Samsung is taking a really wrong path, I'm seriously considering not buying Samsung anymore.

Serinety, i couldnt tell from the pics whether its possible to unscrew the micro usb jack without removing the plastic frame. And would the latter be difficult, if necessary? A battery, usb port or home button exchange could become necessary for some, in the future.

Nexus 5x no cellular service after screen replacement

TL;DR. Nexus 5x on Verizon has no cellular service after screen replacement. I changed my baseband to USA Base (a mistake?) and also did a factory 7.0 flash but still no service. Suggestions??
-----------
Hi all, thanks in advance for the help. I replaced my screen/digitizer on my Nexus 5x. I'm on Verizon. When finished, everything worked except I wasn't getting cellular service. It actually said Verizon but I wasn't able to make calls or use data (I did have one text message sneak through which was strange). Eventually I made my way to *#*#7636#*#* and changed my baseband to USA Base and since that the phone doesn't recognize verizon at all.
I've already tried flashing the google stock 7.0 image but that didn't work. I can't find any loose antenna wires like was a common problem on the Nexus 5, although I don't know exactly where to look either. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Only way to change back baseband is unlock device and install ROM which supports it, there is modified pure nexus rom, search on google.
Here is modified ROM https://mega.nz/#!UhZjHToL!qdIA_HybUdzBlSDjRO1Y7_4byl7w0wPlCw5dsLbwIDg
I think you also need appropriate vendor.
This known issue since device launch and there is no fix from Google, they just replaced device if you bought it from Google play store.
Thanks fanta110! Can you please explain what you mean by needing a vendor?
Also, I am in the US, so shouldn't USA Band work? From my research I could only find people living outside the US who had issues after switching to USA Band .
Update: I've managed to change the baseband back to "Automatic." Now, I get a some service but it's very bad. The sim card is being read, but the phone now spends most of the time on extended network or Verizon with zero bars. If I go to an area with really strong coverage I may get a few bars of LTE.
It's like I'm blocking the antenna or something. Any ideas? Again, this happened after a screen/digitizer/mid frame replacement.
Thanks!
I learned with my note 2 waaaay back to not ever get a screen replacement. It's a gamble. I had a very well known company do mine in Houston back then and it was never the same. Pissed me OFF!! Hope you have better luck.

Well yeah, it's a gamble of $400 for a new one phone, $200 for a used one that may or may not work perfectly, or $50 for a replacement screen that may break something else. If I fix this issue, then I saved quite a bit of money! It was actually super easy to do and I simply think that either (1) I just need to have Verizon re-activate my phone or something like that or (2) I mucked things up by slightly damaging the metal sim card container when prying the battery out (in which case it was completely my fault for not getting the right tool - I was lazy and just had an over-sized screwdriver by me).
Come to think of it, is there any reason why (very slightly) denting the metal sim card holder might cause cellular connection issues? I don't see how since I don't think there are any antennas there (except for the wifi 2x2 MIMO SoC on the other side of it), but I'm certainly no expert. Again, my sim card IS being read, and I'm sometimes getting service - it's just terrible and often no service.
I have the exact same problem. My screen was replaced and now my reception is terrible, especially inside buildings. When walking outside is pretty good, but as soon as I take a few steps inside the house or even vehicles the reception drops to a few bars or "no network available" at all.
There seems to be no solution to this as far as I know. Maybe replacing the antenna, but I don't even know if that's physical possible.

Jeez, for a long time there I thought I was the only person who had this issue! Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution yet. I definitely have a ~25dBA drop in cellular signal, though. That signal stays when the back cover is completely removed as well as the motherboard cover, so it's not that I knocked something loose on that side. I also pulled up each spring contact to ensure good contact but no go there either. My best guess is that the stock digitizer/screen/frame has some sort of booster in it somewhere that didn't come with my replacement.
Did you replace just the glass, the glass + digitizer, or the glass+digitizer+mid frame?

Jeez, for a long time there I thought I was the only person who had this issue! Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution yet. I definitely have a ~25dBA drop in cellular signal, though. I'm almost afraid to say, but I had it replaced by a store. I'm an extreme n00b when it comes to engineering...
Anyway, I think they probably only replaced the glass. They told me it was a pain in the ass to order the glass anyway. 5X parts seem to be quite rare.

Hmm, they probably replaced all three or maybe just the screen and digitizer. If you ask the shop what the deal is and learn anything new, please let me know! My Nexus 5x is currently retired.
Maybe the cheap screens are missing something, theres a seller on ebay that has them for like 120 and claims there official lg. The same ones used in lg service center. There must be something crucial missing in the knock offs! Just google oem displays and its the most expensive. I guess you get what you pay for

I'll see what I can do. They'll probably say that it's not their fault.
Retired altogether eh? May I ask what phone you're currently using? I was thinking about replacements, but I can't really find anything in the same category. Maybe the Oneplus 3 but it's quite expensive.

It may still be worth asking; they may know what to do. Well I'm using my backup phone for the time being (Droid Maxx) until I figure out what to do.
any news about that antenna issue?
did you try replacing the antenna part "Replacement Main Loud Speaker & Antenna"?

The screen is the most common part you can buy, and there shouldn't be a problem to find one. You can use something like this, I'm currently using one and the network signal works ok.
Or, if you want the original one, probably you can find a cheap (same price or less than the previous one, <20$) 2nd hand bootlooped N5X phone in eBay. Either way, it's weird the poor coverage 'cos there's no antenna cable inside the phone. Could it be that they have installed a poor quality screen? Could it be that they have installed a non-original back cover or without the original parts (see image)? Could it be that they have installed a loose back cover and any of the connectors doesn't make a good contact?
The screen replacement is very easy in this phone, anybody can do it with basic tools: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+5X+Teardown/51318
Thank you for replying, but I had no idea this thread was still open. By now I haven't used the phone for a while. I updated to the oneplus 6, dropped that and the screen stopped working so now I'm using a cheap backup phone until I've got some money to replace my oneplus 6
