Question installing custom rom through payload? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

I've been looking around for roms for this model and tried out a few but I noticed some roms aren't just where you can fastboot install the zip. some roms have a big file named payload in the zip so the usual fastboot install doesn't work. so my question is how do you install a rom with the payload in it? I switched from galaxy devices to the pixel so this is new to me

payload.bin is used in OTA updates (flashed using ADB).
Most ROMs have installation instructions so it's best to follow these. Most (if not all) custom Pixel ROMs require you to be on July Stock build and to wipe in recovery mode before flashing.
There are 2 ways to flash ROMs on Pixels: through fastboot or ADB side loading via recovery mode.
Check the instructions listed by the developer.

I'm aware of the installation instructions the devs supply but only rom on xda I found was evolution and its been discontinued. the other roms I found were through telegram which Most do not supply instructions as far as I could see. I was looking into the hentai rom (strange name) or the sparkOS to try out but I'm stumped on the whole installation bit

You need to be very careful about installing full operating systems from unknown sources. You never know what is going to be hidden in there.
What you really should be doing is either compiling yourself from source, or using builds from well recognized suppliers with full source available, and with full REAL IDENTIFICATION available for those responsible for it. GrapheneOS, for example.

I came across the evolution rom here on xds to see it was discontinued but the thread lead me to find telegram that had numerous devs on it with the rom list for the pixel that included grapheneOS. I've noticed many devs here use telegram as well for roms and communications. I would think that in this case, it all seems legit

if you're looking for a custom ROM, I'd suggest you try Derpfest or Zephyrus. Both are listed in this forum and have great reviews. Installation instructions are provided for both (just flash via fastboot).
Every ROM available for Pixel 6 have installation instructions available. I've yet to see one without. There are more than 10 ROMs available. I suggest you join the telegram pixel 6 chat group and get some guidance there.

Hentai OS no instructions? In the channel or group, you can call for user guides then the bot will share a pdf. I'm using Hentai OS for few weeks now.
I'm now with bootloader locked since they also provide custom avb key to relock bootloader and still enjoying volte, vowifi in unsupported region). future update is yes through adb sideload while the phone in recovery mode

smooth rom with microg will update after using. thank you for the rom
known bugs?
Nice Rom!
But there are some minor things I want to mention about this rom.
1. Show status bar clock with seconds not work.
2. Quicksettings show 3 Rows even with the media player. (See Picture)
3. Can't double tap to wake.
Thank you for your nice work for bring another android 11 custom rom to my dear LG V30+ and hope my bad English will not make you confuse.
I don't have data when I boot up.
I'm sorry but I'm having the toughest time upgrading to your rom. I came from rooted stock android9 h932 that I haven't touched in years. I spent the last 5hours flashing different firmwares and searching for what is wrong but no luck. What am I missing? Am I running the wrong firmware?

That's an issue for all custom rom installation
I also saw that issue the first time when I try to flash a custom rom on it
What you need to do is format data in recovery
Remember to backup your data if that's important to you
Press Wipe>Format Data in TWRP
Than everything will be fine
Just reboot your phone (That doesn't wipe your system away)
Enjoy the new rom
This erased all of my local data after flash (Internal Storage)
I mostly keep my stuff in the cloud but some memes you just don't find the second time
Would be good to add some warning in case someone keep some more critical stuff than memes...
nice
First of all I just want to say thank you for bringing this to the 932!!!! But my wifi doesn't work. Anyone know how to fix this
NVM found a random wifi fix on Google from some telegram group lol

Dev @ShapeShifter499 finally solved merging the two separate LOS trees to create universal build for all V30/V30+/V30S. All LOS-based 10 & 11 ROMs since first week of October, 2020 now also support T-Mobile H932 -- as long as they have incorporated @ShapeShifter499's changes. By now, most have.
We posted about it in the LOS ROM threads. See HERE and read the next few posts after that:
Since temporarily moving to another country for family reasons right about that time, I haven't had enough spare time to (yet) edit my ROMs FAQ to mention that. I'm now back in the U.S., but the months since have been very busy!

ProtonAOSPAndroid 12 ROM for Pixel 2 - Maintained by @EnesSastim
Spoiler: SPECIAL THANKS TO
@Lunarixus on XDA (using his device tree, mentorship, and fixes. Wonderful work)
@RealOkabe on XDA for his build process, we only reached bootable state thanks to his work.
@ReallySnow on XDA for his work on Android 12 vendor. I consider him my teacher, and most of the Android 12 heavy lifting was done by him.
None of this would've happened without them.
ProtonAOSP is a minimal Android fork (custom ROM) focused on UI/UX and performance, with a touch of privacy.
Screenshots are attached.

Hello, many thanks for this works, unfortunatly i missed the link.
2 questions, can you send me link to donate for the walleye developpement of this proton aosp unofficial rom ?
Also, is this would work with locked bootloader ? or does not making sens with the configuration of vendor from 11 etc...
Also if u have another test build could you provide it.
Thanks.

Currently the ROM is in in unknown state @Dollscythe is trying their best to fix it so no links are currently available as the ROM wasn't currently usable and and no nothing is flashable if your bootloader is locked for anything to be flashable your bootloader must be able to be unlocked or set in unlocked mode otherwise the device is unflashable and to donate to them its PayPal and the link

I wouldn't recommend re-locking it but I know on the original you could but I would wait until @Dollscythe finishes up if they get the chance as things happen and they are supporting a phone they don't have so time is needed give them a few days hopefully they get a chance and they can answer better then I can as they are building it

FP4 Custom rom questions

Hi people,
Just bought a FP4 and have some questions about custom rom :
-Is there a link to DL the stock rom ?
Need this before playing flashing
-Do you know if Los or /e/ os will make soon a rom for FP4 ?
-Can i use GSI Los image in the meantime (Andy's Los 18 for example) ? If so what are the steps for flashing? Do i need a twrp ? I already try flash the GSI system image but i have a partition error.
Thanks.

The same person that shared with me the info on Discord has built it's own LOS 19 GSI, but he doesn't recommend to use it, cause you should build it for your own device. I'm gonna try to build one, with this tutorial

Thanks for the reply and help, its seems to be on very early dev. I guess i will wait for an official package from Eos, Los or Iodé. In the meantime just debloat the stock rom.

Good news Eos make it available since yesterday for FP4.
I'm in and works like a charm.
I just don't understand why won't they release device source trees on launch? And send some phones to lineageOS devs?
OnePlus does this and lineageOS is available at launch. FP seems to be becoming an iPhone.

I read on the Eos forum that the rom and instructions to flash Eos were put online at the same time that they ship the phone with the Eos system already installed (if you buy one directly form their shop). As a sync launch.
About Fairphone, they don't really want to put effort on dev Os. They tried by the past but seems to be hard to maintain. Some teams as Los or Eos did it on a full time job. Eos and Fairphone works together. Maybe Los and fairphone don't

Their problem is that they have priorities. We, custom ROM users, are a minor part of their users. So they do what they need to do first. That's it.

Finish installing crdroid 8.2 on willow, fabulous rom so far!
A big thank for rolling on with crdroid on ginkgo/willow!
I remember flashing this on my sgs4 EU variant. Longest ROM I have ever used on that phone. Thanks for your work, keep it up.
First of all, thanks for keeping crdroid alive for ginkgo. Now the question. Since the title does not have the 'unofficial' tag are you going to apply for official? (I don't really care, but most likely the question will come up sooner or later anyway)

If you are switching to an Android version, I recommend a clean installation.

Maybe just try it yourself, after taking a full backup, and putting it to a save place?
You always can do a clean flash thereafter, if dirty flash is failing ...
Is it Feb security update?
We should get ready for crDroid 9

ah okay. actual twrp based recoveries can for sure flash a12 but you have to decrypt your internal data while flashing using a dfe zip. i don't know if it works with every rom but i know pixel-based roms are also working with encrypted data when using los-based recoveries that are mostly shipped with the rom, look out for it on threads first pages. can't tell more since i've no experience with these. hope it helps a bit. cheers

I have installed CrDroid 8. I have used Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt. The system works, it is decrypted. Unfortunately, when I want to enter recovery, TWRP freezes at the logo screen
//edit
I installed OrangeFox recovery via the fastboot command and now recovery is working

We are very excited to announce Paranoid Android Topaz, based on Android 13.
On the first launch, you’ll notice a clean setup with beautiful wallpapers from Hampus Olsson, who teamed up with us again to create several beautiful pieces of artwork. Hampus is a multi-disciplinary artist whose design stands for itself and we’re glad to have him onboard. We also added further UI touches that we believe enhance the overall user experience. You can find all of the Paranoid Android wallpapers and many more in the Abstruct app from the PlayStore.
Our builds are based on the Code Linaro Organization Android base, which is optimized for Qualcomm platforms and has a higher degree of performance, battery life, and functionality compared to the Android Open Source Project platform. The Paranoid Android team and contributors are focusing on squashing existing bugs, and implementing and improving features, performance, and stability. We are dedicated to providing a user experience with the stability that you can expect from stock ROMs with best-in-class performance and features to help you get the most out of your device.

We kindly ask all of you that are in a position to donate anything, to help and support us so we can provide better and faster build releases, as well as increase the download speed of our servers, all looking for your enjoyment.

Thank you so much for this ROM. I want to try out this ROM. Do we have to be on OOS 12 or 11 before flashing this?

ROM comes with firmware, you'll be able to flash it regardless of OOS version as long as your bootloader is unlocked.
Thank you for all the effort, Timo. It's all fine for now.

@timo_capa or if anyone can please kindly provide simple instructions on how to flash this custom ROM. Provide a simple guide on how to install it via Recovery option and Fastboot option.
I tried flashing it and I ended up softbricking my OnePlus 7 Pro. Please it is not everyone that is on Telegram so kindly provide installation instructions on the first post. Thank you
Open boot loader with
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
boot into fastboot mode
place rom file inside adb folder & run
Code:
fastboot update romname.image.zip
Make sure you download the .image.zip file
On first boot it will ask you to reset data, Reset your data & thats it
thanks for your hard work,,,
i flashed and used for one day,,,
battery timing was best, even better than oos10..
i faced some minor UI glitches,, as this is first built,, it's ok.. ROM id smooth.
charging speed is better than oos10..
the reason why i have to come back to oos10, was Snapchat chatting bug,,,
example if i send a msg , it will not show in settings and will send after hours.. some msgs even weren't send....
please fix Snapchat issue or if someone know how to solve Snapchat chat issue, please reply to this comment...
2nd it's showing device isn't certified, please solve it too.
Note: if anyone facing issue related fastboot option,, i mean if your device stuck on Bootloader warning,,, even after format data,,,, then please flash all partitions manually then then restart to recovery, format data then reboot to system... this is how i was able to boot ROM
