Some users reported that the reason is the launcher (after the update)
so try cleaning it's data and reconfig it
if problem persist, disable it and use nova or any respectable launcher

I thought you can't disable it because it is responsible for showing the Recent apps screen, or switching between open apps?

Hi,
After rooting my OnePlus 3, increased the max bg app number to 42... After doing that my phone has become slow... Even when i try to close all apps in recent apps menu, system UI hang and force closes... I reduced the bg apps number to 25 and still same issue...
Let me know if anyone else facing same problem and any solution to fix it...

this is because too many apps are running on the background (do you really need 25-42 apps active?) and yes even if you force close them they will restart and system ui will die when there are simply too many apps running. you should not need more then 10 apps active. this isnt a bug or issue its simply overkill and happening to any device. even your windows desktop would crash its system when you have 42 tasks active.

Actually according to some reviewers to use complete of RAM, it was suggested to increase the number.. i think the default value in 3.2.7 is 20...
I'll try to reduce it 10 but having 6gb of RAM and only 10apps in memory???

leave default value 20 l and reboot. maybe its also caused by disabling some system apps.

Do Anyone have issue with app closing too quickly in background even less than a minute??
I am noticing it for past few days. When i switch chrome with any other app and come back within a minute then chrome page reload itself. This was not the case with my previous device Moto X2.
Also faced issue with mini militia app when switched to whatsapp for few seconds, the app restarted when came back.
Any help will be grateful.
Yes, this phone has very aggressive memory management. It kills background tasks too quickly.
Looking under memory settings, I have used 85 apps in the last 24 hours and the maximum amount on RAM this phone has used is 1.6 GB...seems the RAM usage never hits more than 2 GB as the phone keeps killing apps.

Uh, that's weird, some apps didn't work in background, like games. In what apps do you have problems? Or all the apps?

Noticed mostly in Chrome, page reloads even if switched app within 30 seconds, no other heavy app running in background.
Faced with Mini Militia game too, app reloads if switched for like 10 seconds or more.

Hi, Please some one help me about Use of "No background Process" - in Developer option . Because i have enabled this option in My Honor 8 Pro to stop background Process. With this option enabled most of the Google services also like Chrome, Youtube are all getting stoped once i removed from app tray. when i am opening those apps are running normally no other issue.
My doubts are whether this option is useful or not, because i am reading some stuffs online it is saying it will drain the Battery lot. if i havn't enabled this option most of the apps are running in background even i removed those apps from app tray.
Please some one help me with clear idea, whether i can close the app try or can i continue by enabling this "No background process". Because i am not heavy user, i am just a lite user between one hour i will open whatapp thats it, once in a day i will use Youtube for 30 minutes.

First and foremost thing in Android is - Free ram is wastage
When you select the no background process option, the apps will be removed from background when you clear them from the recents screen. It means all their processess will be terminated.
So, everytime you open an app, all its processess need to be restarted from the start which will in turn use more battery overtime.
Android has now evolved upto the level where it can easily manage the background process.
So, you need not to worry about battery draining because of apps running in background.
If you use just 2 or 3 apps in a day, you can choose the option to keep 3 or 4 background processes.

Thanks for the reply, Now i make it to maximum-3 Process in background. Let me see whether it is helping me to improve the battery life.
One more thing, if i set to "No background Process" then even though if i kept the apps in try (not closing just minimizing) , it is automatically stopped when i am checking in task manager, but those apps are in tray( looks like in RAM). In this method also will Drain the battery? Please reply

As mentioned above, opening your apps from start will use up more battery because it has to load everything to run the app (generally libraries, images, and various resources).
Keeping an app open in background will result in a more lasting battery. If they are in the tray, your system will not shut them down as you are supposed to be using them (that's what we call multi-tasking).
Although, if you "close" an app, it will force the process to stop. By doing this, every time you quit an app by clearing it in the tray, the system will free the temporary data and discharge the pre-loaded resources.
As K.khiladi said, you'll save up more battery by letting the default option (Standard limit). Hope that helps.
That's the reason the option is only accessable through Dev Options.

Yeah, they got sneaky and made it a setting and not an app. Have you tried going to Device Care>Memory, hitting the 3 dots and adding it to "Apps that aren't checked"? Also turn off the option "Put unused apps to sleep" under battery settings.
thank you to interest you in my question I already tried but it does not work, would it be possible to disable it by rooting?
So, I have this issue, where most of my apps can't stay in recent apps overnight. They all get killed, all but 5 I have noticed. I did the battery optimization thing for all apps I use on a daily basis. I have edited build.prop file and added sys.keep_app_1=com.whatsapp and so on for the rest of my apps. I also did that in the local.prop file. None of it worked. How to prevent my phone from killing apps overnight?

If you are rooted you might try the app LSpeed and use one of the build in RAM profiles.
I am rooted. OK, I will try it. Thanks. It shuts my app very VERY aggressively. For instance, I was watching some youtube video yesterday, and in the other app I was searching for some products and was going back and forth between YouTube and Google Chrome, and every couple of times it restarted YouTube app, even though I was using it 2 minutes ago.

Both youtube and chrome are resource hungry apps, that's why it keeps reloading.
I guess your device is 3 gb version as mine.

I have the 4 gb version as well and I don't face such an issue, if nothing works try factory reset, absolute solution :good:
Tried it already, didn't work. Try leaving 10-15 apps opened in the evening, and see in the morning if they are still in recent apps. And tell me tomorrow.

Well, then you probably need a custom rom. Android One is known to be optimized for dumping non needed tasks. You could try to disable battery optimizing for the apps you would like to stay alive.
Tried that too, didn't work.
My previous phone was 2Gb running android 6. Now i have a mi a2 life 4Gb and it is OK except for 2 games.
Apparently there's some AI that learns what you use but after many weeks no change.
Most apps open pretty fast. It's only these 2 games that I run daily. Annoying to have to wait for them especially since the old phone was able to keep them cached.
I tried the low-memory config (magisk module) but it didn't help. I guess android has changed its algorithm. I'm resigned to it.
It's insane. What's the point of having 4, 6, 8 or 10GB of ram if you can't use it?!
Connect it to a monitor, install Taskbar app and SecondScreen app, enable Freeform windows and turn your phone into a mediocre PC. Assuming you can get all the resources back from OS's hidden service threads of course.
Facing the same issue
facing same issue specially after android 10 update. Change apps back and forth even in recent apps menu kills the app. My phone is 4/64.

Android 10 has a known problem. Rebooting helps. For how long seems to vary. I get a week or so, some people only get a day.
I had the same problem when I was unrooted during the Android 10 update crash. After rooting and installing Lspeed again, Android is not killing apps anymore as I set these settings
