Make Lock Screen Stop Asking for PIN While Phone Encrypted - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hello, I'm running a Samsung S4 Mini (I9195) with LineageOS 18.1. Smart Lock isn't cutting it for me, I don't use GPS, I only have BT on when listening to music. I want to have the ability to unlock and lock the lock screen at my leisure, to make it stop asking for my PIN until I press-hold the lock icon on the lock screen to make it ask for PIN again.
I used to be able to do that, by setting up a system profile that sets the lock screen to not ask for PIN when it is activated. After having encrypted my phone via the option in the Security settings menu, I can't do this particular thing. Amusingly, I can still remove the PIN from the phone entirely and make the lock screen stop asking for one that way, but that requires going into settings, disabling the PIN, and then setting it up over again when I want it back.
So can I still set whether the lock screen asks for PIN easily somehow? Is the only way to do this to undo the phone's encryption? I could do that easily enough, all partitions have been backed up in recovery just prior to encryption.

Toggle between pattern lock and slide lock?

Hey there,
I'm using extended controls and a lock pattern. whenever I disable auto lock in extended control, it completely removes the lock, so neither patternlock (what I want to disable) NOR slide-lock is shown: Is there a way to toggle: pattern lock and slide lock and perhaps no-lock at all? currently the toggling of patternlock is NOT working really well since extended control brings me to the settings-screen where I always have to disable / re-enable (->thus reentering a pattern) myself.
perhaps there's a software which brings its own lockscreen and thus allows something like that...
rooted desire with oxygen 2.2. thanks!
I've not heard of something like that, but I'm not saying it doesn't exist.. I see you're using an AOSP ROM, if you tried cyanogenmod, it has a feature that allows you to disable and enable the screen lock, and then re-enable it.. or, you can also set-up delay settings, so the phone only locks after e.g. 5 minutes
Don't forget to nandroid backup when switching ROMs!
It's really a pain. In android 2.1 it was possible... And I really don't understand why users don't want to have such a feature: I don't always enable pattern lock but though I don't want to disdable locking completely because the phone COULD EASILY go on and do something stupid in my pocket - thus I want to keep a simple slide unlock and sometimes (e.g. when I'm at home and have the phone laying around all the time for the whole day), I want to disable a locking screen completely since I'm not transporting it in my pocket

[Q] Lockscreen swipe vs security pin

I posted this in General, but have not had any responses.
I am currently using the stable CM10 and am wondering if there is a way to separate the screen unlock (simple swipe etc) from the security lock (pin or pattern) features.
I would prefer my screen to turn off after a few minutes or with power button, and then when reactivated require a swipe (puzzle lock etc) to access apps. The idea on this is preventing accidental app activation in a pocket etc, but having quick access to slider short cuts.
However, I would like it to require a secure pin or pattern to access after a longer preset time (some longer time out). The idea here is my phone is found or stolen from me, users can see my info on the home lock screen but cannot access anything else..
Is this possible?
Thank you ,
Don

[Q] My screen locks too often (requiring pattern or pin very often). Why?

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue. I have to enable a PIN or pattern lock to allow a corporate secure wifi network setting to be saved and for something else (I think for my bank app). From the G4 settings it seems like you can set it to NOT lock when turning off with power button (last option), and a 30 minute timeout before it auto-locks. Yet despite that, mine still seems to lock requiring a pattern input and not just a swipe if I leave it on the table for just a minute. What am I missing?
Thanks all!

These settings are under Lockscreen. Right at the end. It should work, unless you have another app controlling locking.
Exactly.. it "should work"... but it isn't. It insist on locking all the time.. Could the fact that I"m connected to said secure WIFI cause that?? (vs just having an entry for it)
You could try going under the setting for Security - Phone administrators. Look if there is something that is controlling phone lock.
I know for my example, I must enable PIN locking, but my phone administrator for that account enables up to 30 minutes before forcing lock. So as long as I uncheck the setting for "Lock phone immediately on power button," my phone will immediately be unlocked within a 30 minute window where I don't need to enter my PIN.

Right, that's what I'm going for / expecting. I have 3 in there, Android Device Manager, Support & Protection (Verizon thing it looks like) and AirDroid. Only Android Device Managers is checked ON. ADM can obviously affect the lock screen and can change the lock password, but I don't see anything else which would affect this timeout being ignored. hmmmm
(Thanks, BTW!)
I was looking at my Smart Lock section and read the blurb about On-body detection, which was the only Smart Lock I had enabled. It says "Just unlock once and your device stays unlocked as long as you keep holding your device or carry it on you." .... "Your device will lock when it detects that it's been set down"..!! So, I've now turned on-body detection OFF as, in this case, it's working against me. Seems it's not too well integrated with the other options (ignores the Security Lock Timer).
If I don't post back, it's probably working as hoped.
Disabling on-body detection has definitely solved my issue with the G4 locking shortly after setting it down on the desk.

Emergency contact on lock screen?

I am trying to figure out how I can add a short message such as "if found call.. xxxxx.." in case I lose my phone on the lock screen, I have a pin, and use the fingerprint lock as the phone has work stuff and must have a password setting. Is there a way to do this?

[A3 Nougat] Screen unlock issues

Hi all.
I keep having issues with screen unlock.
First it would only unlock via fingerprint and not using pin.
To test a little i then selected pattern + fingerprint and now it doesn't require either except on first boot up. I can simply swipe to unlock. However, if I scan a non registered finger it says "no match".
I'm not connected to trusted devices...
Any ideas what causes this behaviour? It shouldn't be due to removing stock bloatware, right (Samsung, Google, FB apps)?
Many thanks!
It sounds to me like you have one of the "Smart Lock" settings enabled. These override the pattern and fingerprint settings when specific conditions are met: the device is on your body, the device is at home, or the device is within range of your smartwatch.
They should really be called "Smart Unlock" settings. You can find these settings under "Lock screen > Secure lock settings".
Sort of an old thread, but I'm also facing issues with the unlock screen lag. Somehow it is related to the battery saving: since it slows down the CPU, apparently the system doesn't have time to "process" the unlock pattern (or PIN, same problem; and hang me if that process should take longer than a couple nanoseconds), and the screen goes back to black before the unlock is successful. As a temporary workaround, I've disabled battery saving, and now at least I can unlock with pattern or PIN. But the real problem must reside somewhere else. It's not acceptable that an operating system takes that long in processing the unlock.
