Question Is there any possible way to edit build.prop? - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

On one the unrootable fold3s is there any possible way to edit the build.prop, any kind of software or app or adb command or something that can help me?

Not without root.

root from mt3gs

Hey thanks for reading my thread.
I am wondering if it possible to root mt3gs directly from the phone its self?
if someone knows of ever heard of this. Please help. I thank you in advance for any advice.
I think Chiefz was able to do it ... but it didn't sound like a procedure for the casual rooter. If it is possible it requires a solid working knowledge of the system files via terminal and an app such as root explorer to pull it off. I'll try to locate the post (might have been a tweet).
Using a computer and the various rooting methods available for the slide it is quite easy to achieve root.
Moved to Q&A as not development.

Modify marshmallow system image?

I haven't took the plunge to 6.0 yet because I'm not ready to part with root yet but what if we were to modify the system.img and re-flash it? I mean similar to injecting root, but don't inject root. We could at least bock ads with a hosts file, push the file to enable tethering, and debloat. Once done, none of those things require root other then to maybe update the hosts file. Anyone that has updated willing to try? I can help by getting files and commands together. Anyway, just thinking out loud here, thanks for reading lol
The problem is with 6.0, Google made changes so that the only way to achieve root is to modify the boot image instead of the System image. Since the VS986 has a locked bootloader, the phone will refuse to boot if you modify it from stock, potentially bricking it.
6.0 + locked bootloader = no root.
As I said above, I'm not wanting to push root to the image, I realize it's blocked now. What I'm proposing is to modify the image to achieve 2 main things, ad blocking and tethering. If we push the 2 files needed for that, then flash the image, root will not be needed for those to continue to work. It won't work if the system is somehow checked for modifications, but kdz should fix that if it don't work.. Anyone willing to try it?
I can't help you with root but Verizon is no longer charging for tethering on most of their plans. I use it all the time on my G4 using stock tethering. Double check with Verizon.
People who still have unlimited data don't have tethering included so we need the modified hotspot. And like I already said, I'm not looking to have root, what I'm wanting to try is a little different. I haven't taken the plunge to 6.0 yet, but I'm looking for someone who has but kinda regrets out cuz they lost root.

That is exactly what i would like to do. A little debloating, updating hosts and add cerberus as a system app.
this is a step in the right direction : http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-how-to-modify-img-partition-t3196994
This has been asked a few times in the "Root Injection" thread, once by me, with no answer.
It appears the main problem is the download mode exploit may be closed. Entering commands in the send-command app returns "fail".
I once got the command to backup entered without failing but it ran for almost an hour without generating the system.img.
I guess we have to use a fully fledged kitchen. I was hoping to circumvent that

In addition that exploit getting patched, Android 6.0 was changed by Google so that you can only achieve root by modifying the boot.img and kernel, not just the system partition. Since the bootloader is locked, if you do manage to modify the system img, you would at best see no results, or at worst brick your phone.

Log script/techniques used in King/o Root tools possible?

As the title asks, as the new 5.2.1.1 stops being able to root amazon fire stick i wanted to look at the scripts used by Kingo root on the last fire os and see if there was anyway to modify them.
As Kingo root is all done over the Internet would anyone care to share a way to capture what scripts are being sent?
Im guessing im not the only one who would like to know how and would much appreciate if anyone could help in anyway.
Thanks.

Adding Root to Combination File

Hi, I'm note sure if I'm asking this in the right area its been a while since I've asked anything. Anyway, I'm glad to have root on N930 All devices. However I have a N930V, both root method and combination firmware. I want gain root on the combination firmware but I really don't know how. First I tried flashing the rooted Sprint Leaked firmware, rooting it perm and then flashing the combo and even vice versa. I did alot of splitting files etc etc. Still no luck. I even cracked out Linux because I'm trying to discover how does this Sprint leaked file has root on it anyway but I believe its the "user-debug" kernel. Anyway can anyone elaborate on this? And kind of guide and help me out with this I'd really appreciate it. Please don't ask me why I'm doing this I'm looking for assistance not interrogation. Thanks Vell123
I don't know much about the technical issues, but you tried the Hydra method?

I don't believe it has root but it doesn't block ADB from pushing SU. Directly after flashing the sprint firmware before even booting it you run ADB and push the superuser.apk so it is rooted at that point. Then you flash the partial VZW firmware which doesn't include the recovery and maybe bootloader. The VZW recovery doesn't even allow ADB to push anything so replacing the recovery is a key step. Why the PH1 firmware allows you to replace it with the Sprint firmware is a mystery to me.
I know right. I havent tried the hydra method @cigars
@jellyhead I'm not trying to root. I just want to make a combo file that has root in the system because it does have a permissive kernel but doesnt have SU access

Hi Gary unfortunately no I have not found way to 1. root the phe firmware besides using combination files and 2. my answer hasnt been answered either. I'm assuming your device Note 7 device has been blacklisted or blocked via the imei and model number. it sucks i know but I'm still looking and if not anything I'm considering building on the combination file because with combination file you can call and text but you literally have to install all your apps with adb and or sd card if you have one. its a bit of a pain but you also can root and change the model number too

Question Is it still possible to edit build.prop with newer Android versions?

Hi guys,
Question is in the title.
I know it used to be pretty easy to edit build.prop with older versions of Android. Now...it's nearly damn impossible, if not really impossible. Changes are not getting saved, you can't mount the system rw (or at least I couldn't). You have root access, but...you can't really change anything.
So...is it still possible to actually save changes to build.prop or replace it with a changed one?
I think the best way is to use a Magisk module for that.
