Not working Network Proxy in Fire Stick - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good morning,
For several days now, I am not able to add a proxy on my Fire TV device. I am following the official guide, but when I hit the save button the window closes and the settings are not saved. I have also tried AndroidProxySetter but it doesn't save either.
Has this happened to anyone else, do you know how to fix this?
Thanks! Regards.

Have you seen any fix to this? I know not here, but perhaps elsewhere… Previous to FireOS 6.2.9.0, I didn’t have problems, but now the same thing as you describe happens to me.

Try this. It worked for me.
Use this .apk AndroidProxySetter. Install and follow the commands. It will route Network traffic to Charles proxy.

Can't change DNS at Android 5.0

Hey guys. I flashed android lollipop 2 nights ago with fastboot. I am very happy with it so far but there is one major annoyance about it. I can't change DNS.
When I try to modify network settings after I change from to "DHCP" to "Static IP" I can't click save button. I also tried a few applications and all of them gave error.
The only thing I can think about while I was flashing the image I got boot.sig and recovery.sig errors but the guide video was telling to ignore those errors.
I am wondering if rooting the device would help me. I am open to any kind of suggestions.
Thanks a lot.
Might be a dumb answer, but I had that issue as well. Make sure when you fill out the info for static you actually type in ALL information. After I filled out each section manually the save button was lit and I was able to save changes. Not sure though if it worked, ipleak is telling me I still have a bunch of google dns's from around the country. Settings were saved though.
If you want to use dhcp but change the DNS server, this seems to be an open problem.
Can you change the DNS on your router instead of the device? On my Netgear I changed it so all devices use Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) instead of Comcast DNS. Works great, and covers everything connected to it either wired or wireless.
I know that isn't really a solution for the problem, but it might help in the meantime.
I did have to use a static IP. My router is set to use different DNS servers though.

Help diagnosing bugs

I've had some persistent issues with aftv that go back a long way. I won't go into details because the post will run really long. However, if anyone asks I can share. They don't seem to involve xbmc but the aftv itself. I've done 2 resets via CWM.
Recently I read another post talking about adb logcat. But playstore has nothing by that exact name. Are they all the same? Itd be great to get a log but I'm not confident it'll help with just my eyes. Can someone reccomend a good place to share? This is the first time so I'm curious about any formalities like--when and where to post it, etc.
Thanks a lot. Id like to get this unit running like it's supposed to. It'll run great but needs excessive reboots to fix glitches with sound cutting in and out and Netflix not working if I go from xbmc to there without a reboot.
No one can assist? Maybe my post was longer than necessary... can someone please just reccomend a good debug tool for aftv? I'll work out the rest myself. Of course any and all info is welcomed & appreciated.

[Q] Tethering fix

Hey guys,
I apologize if this has been asked but I couldn't find it on any particular thread. About 10 days ago I started getting T-Mobile's upsell for tethering that I'd (thanks to the awesome developers) been able to successfully evade for over a year. Is there any fix for this? I'm (now) running Lollipop but it happened before upgrading so it seems unrelated. Thanks in advance!

There's only one solution working for me right now, but you'll have to buy this app: Wifi Tether Router
Go into /system and make a copy of your build.prop
Open your build.prop with a text editor and add this line all the way at the bottom:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Save the file and reboot your device
Open the wifi tether router app and go to "configure wifi router." At the bottom of the page, there's a button to visit the site for device config settings. Scroll down that page to find settings for Note 3.
Once you're all set up, you should be good to go. Only thing you have to do is use a UserAgent switching app on your browser to make it think you're on a mobile device. I'm using User-Agent Switcher (with the blue globe icon) for Google Chrome.
Hope that helps.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply, but with a user-agent switcher, everything works even now. I was hoping to avoid changing my headers because certain sites won't be served to a "mobile" device. Luckily, my internet tv apparently doesn't send any headers because I can still tether unlimited...ly with that, but it's definitely frustrating getting mobile versions of sites on my laptop. I have observed a somewhat strange behavior that I wonder if we can exploit. It's somewhat finicky, but I've noticed that if I Google the name of a site I want to access (still via the address bar, though), the search results come up without TMO nagging me about a hotspot and oftentimes the link from the search results takes me to the site. I can't make sense of it, but as an example, if you try www.yahoo.com, you'll get the hotspot page, but if you google "yahoo" and click the first result, you get taken to the site. *shrug* I'm not smart enough to figure it out, but perhaps this observation will help someone else solve the problem

Glad you got it working! Yeah, idk about the Google Search trick, but I'll try it out sometime.

[AFTV1] I can't access my apps library.

Hey all.
So I have a previously rooted FTV that is now unrooted and on 5.0.5.
Everything was great until just a couple of hours ago when I sideloaded Kodi via Apps2Fire. Everything seemed OK at first, but I quickly found after about 5 minutes that when on the main screen, I am unable to access the "Apps" section. When I scroll down to it, I am redirected up a couple of entries to "Movies." If I scroll up to the "Apps" section from beneath it, I am redirected down a couple of entries to "Photos." I tried a factory reset, but that did nothing for me.
What can I do?
I'd greatly appreciate any help that can be provided.
I'm seeing exactly the same behavior on a Fire Gen 1 and a Fire Stick. I had Kodi installed on both. I also tried a factory reset on one with no change.
So I can't help, but you're not alone .
Exactly same problem never rooted mine tho did. factory reset still same problem
Quicklyfrozen and skytcam, when did this issue start for you two?
I noticed it about an hour ago maybe a little more

I just noticed it today, but I don't normally use the apps category (usually just pick something from the recents list).
A couple days ago (probably Saturday) I noticed that my LLama + Classic TV solution wasn't working anymore to launch Kodi so I assume the software was updated around then. After searching for a bit on that issue, I read that side loaded apps were supposed to show up on the app list now so I thought I'd check it out (and found it broken).
BTW, I've never rooted either device, just enabled ADB and side-loaded Kodi and LLama.
I'm having the same problem. It only started early. This afternoon. I tried everything that others have tried but nothing doing.

Well then, I'm hopeful that this is a temporary issue on Amazon's side and that they'll resolve it. I guess we'll see.
Seems to have resolved itself on both my devices. Must have been a server side issue.
And after side-loading it again, Kodi does show up in the "My apps library" list.
Yep it's suddenly working on mine too. Hopefully it's all worked out.

I had to deregister and sign back in and it worked
My apps library suddenly won't let me access it either.
My Fire TV suddenly started redirecting me to the movies or music sections every time I tried to click on the apps section. I haven't found a solution to get the apps tile function back, but it is simple to get around this sudden annoyance. I simply went to settings, then applications, scrolled down to manage applications, then scrolled down to the exact app I wished to open and hit the first choice, which was launch application. It was a round about way to open my favorite apps, but they still open and work fine with this method. I hope this helps.

Forget wired network on Fire tv 2nd gen

After a recent update that almost bricked my 2nd gen box i was able to factory reset and go back to normal. Before my box had an issue i had some smart dns addresses set up on a wired connection. i am able to set these up on wireless after the factory reset but when doing on wired the changes aren't registering. Also i have noticed that there isn't the option to press the menu button to forget the wired network and start again from scratch (and presumably be able to set up the DNS addresses within the setup). My 3rd gen box gives the option of using the menu button to forget the network.
Hope someone can help me solve this annoying issue!
Just noticed your post.
I posted this today https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/fire-tv-gen-1-change-settings-ethernet-t3847115
So pretty much the same issue on a gen 1 unit.
So you even found after a factory reset, you couldn't make changes to the settings?
Have Amazon screwed up the software?
No idea where you could report it....
Same issue here, fire tv 2nd gen...

Did you try a factory reset?
I am reluctant to do this as it means blowing away quite a lot of setup and the earlier poster suggested that a reset did not fix the issue anyway.
Interested to know if you did a reset?
EDIT: By the way - try and put a post on this forum: https://www.amazonforum.com/forums/devices/fire-tv
I cant quite work out if it is a forum that is used for official problems - but at least its amazon. Might be good to get a few more complaints on there.

I did it twice so far, but without any result
Moreover I am in a strange situation:
I bought the AFTV when I was living in germany, at the time the service was not present i my country (Italy)
later Prime video service was started and I was able to cast videos from Fire to FTV
later AFTV stick entered my counrty, but not AFTV
So in this moment I am a Prime Video subscriber, with a AFTV device with an Italian fiormware (probably developed for the stick), but I can only see videos on my smartphone or tablet. The cast begins but immediately ends.
This situation in addition to net settings is very recent.
I don't know that they have anything specific in the software (OS) that varies depending on the country.
It might be worth having a look at your settings on the Fire TV stick and then review your amazon account settings.
You may have a mismatch somewhere.

Hi there, how did you get your box back to normal?
My box wont boot and I assume the update is to blame for this. I get stuck on a "Amazon Recovery <3e>" screen. Similar in your case?
Thank you for your reply!

the factory reset put the box back to normal. `My issue now is about putting in smart dns settings which arent being saved
I also have this problem with a Fire TV 1 and 2. I can add a wireless connection manually and for this connection I can use a static IP-address and DNS-server. But no luck with wired network on both devices. Fun Fact: My Fire TV 1 already has a static connection, but I can't update the IP-address. Both devices have software version 5.2.6.6.
I already had contact with the Amazon support repeatedly, but they basically told me to go **** myself, especially after I told them I wanted to add my own DNS-Server. They think I want to use other countries' Prime Video.

I sent Amazon Support the link to this thread. At least now they did reply to me, saying that they will look into the problem. Maybe one of the next updates will already solve this bug.
It does not really matter what the DNS settings are for - It is just a fact that sometimes they will need to be altered and now cannot be.
The wifi connections can be changed but the wired network is effectively frozen.
I am sure its just a small glitch in the code - Really hope it can be fixed.
Generally the Fire TV has been an excellent product for me.
Same problem here. Can't change or forget a wired connection. Im on Fire OS 5.2.6.7
Same for me as well on the FireTV 1, have finally updated to the latest rooted OS version and now cannot change the DNS settings on the wired connection!
Have had to revert to the WiFi connection instead for now so hopefully this gets fixed in the next release...
Just received Version 5.2.6.8 (Build 630508320) yesterday.
After installing I tried to "forget" the Ethernet connection.
It looked like it had worked - there was no connection showing - which I think is different to before - I seem to recall when you 'forgot' it would just re-appear.
I added a new ethernet connection and entered all the details I wanted - Fixed IP address and DNS servers - clicked save and it all looked ok.
Went into the About device bit which lets you check the network details etc.
IP address and DNS server details were the old details that I had 'Forgotten' - So sad to say its still knackered.
Good job Amazon!

I've just installed Version 5.2.6.8 (Build 630508620) on my Fire TV 2 and editing the network settings works now.
If you select "Update Networkconfiguration", on the right side of the screen it shows your configuration from before the update. But if you edit your network again, you will see, that the Fire TV remembered your settings.
To see your new configuration on the About-Page you have to reboot your Fire TV.
Thanks Ph4te89 - You are right!
Maybe a bit of sloppy code somewhere in there - but it does eventually decide to show the settings I saved and is presumably using them again.
Great stuff - Really like my Fire TV (especially when its working properly).
