Hi guys,
I am still on rooted pixel 3 with enabled tethering on old Verizon Unlimited plan. Time flies and I think it is time to upgrade my phone. I am thinking about 6 PRO maybe later this year if there are some good discounts with 7 coming up in a few month.
Is there a way to enable hot spot tether from 6 PRO without rooting the phone or it's still the only way to bypass hotspot tethering check from cell provider? Being able to use hotspot on my old plan is the only thing I really care about at this point.
It's been a while and I am sure a lot has changed.
Thanks.

It's been a few years but PDAnet worked pretty well for me on an old Verizon unlimited plan. Random disconnects but overall it was pretty handy and the "hide tethering" option seemed to do just that. Bandwidth wasn't great though.
I've since switched to Visible, hotspot/tethering is included and stable but it's throttled @ 4Mbs for me.
Good luck!

Thx in advance for this
anybody on TMO plan no if there is any app that would not cause me to get charged for using phone as WIFI tether uinder their terms and conditions . reason I am asking is I would use it so rarely that it would just be stupid to pay 10 bucks extra for something I would use maybe once or twice in 6 month time.
thx love you guys
I made a discovery tonight. While just playing around, I got curious and tried turning on the wifi hotspot tethering. Now, I've been on stock since AT&T released 4.3 and decided not even to root so I could keep my warranty up through August. I upgraded to 4.4.2 when it was released a few weeks ago (and I am not rooted). Also, and I don't know if this would factor in, I had been on a grandfathered AT&T unlimited data plan since way back in my captivate days. I recently (a week ago) switched over to their Family Share 10gig plan with unlimited talk and text.
Just on a whim, i thought id see if the tethering would work. It does. I successfully connected three other devices to my phone.
Is this supposed to happen? I thought tethering was blocked on stock ROMs. Can anyone else that's running the stock 4.4.2 confirm that tethering works?
Tethering has always worked for me =)

This is the way the Family Share plan works. You can find the following in the small print of the mabile share pricing information on AT&T's website.
Data: If you exceed the amount of data in your plan during your billing period, an additional 300MB, 500MB, or 1GB is automatically provided as specified in your rate plan. Data allowances, including overages, must be used in billing period provided or will be forfeited. Tethering and mobile hotspot use is allowed for up to 5 simultaneous devices.
i, I am new here, a friend at work told me to sign up here, that xda is the best place to go for Android help.
I have an ATT branded Note 3 that I had unlocked and have been running on tmo's truly unlimited plan the last 2 years. I would turn on the old ATT hotspot which wasn't counting against my "tethered data limit" so my 8 yo daughter and 10yo son can watch tv on their ipads and play games all month long while I use my laptop on the internet.
I can NOT afford Uverse anymore, they turned off our service and I had to give them back their equipment, (cause their price got outrageously high).
Tuesday night something changed and they could see my tethered data usage.
I shut things down at 5g of my allowed 7g, then paid for and installed wifi tether app.
I turned it on and it tethered perfectly, nice and fast, but did Not mask the tethering.
I tried but clearly have settings wrong I'm sure. (the apn thing is probably wrong, (IPv4 is grayed out).
I am desperate to get this sorted asap or our family is screwed as I have come to depend on the unlimited data I have been paying for the last 2 years.
PLZ Help me, I cannot afford a seperate internet plan in my home -

I don't think this is an an issue with Verizon. I believe this is the FoxFi VPN servers are down. This happened a few months ago, and the next day it started working again.
Hope you are right. Time will tell.
It's 8:36PM Pacific Time - 11/20/2015 - Foxfi not working on Verizon Galaxy s5. Did yours start working again?
Booo. I'd rather get beat in the face with a sack full of pissed off kittens than go without my foxfi....I was one of the retards that got a note 4...and bog5 is not my friend.
Do any of you know how to use FoxFi via USB mode or Bluetooth mode to connect PS3, granted that'll be a fix till we all figure out what the deal is.
Note 4, Verizon with Unlimited Data Fox Fi not working for me as of I think today (last time I ran it was a week ago). Bummed, bout to take a road trip with the kids for Thanksgiving and no wifi. What's going on?
I just tried to fire up FoxFi for the first time in a few days and I can't get it to work, either. Also on Verizon with an Unlimited Data Plan. Am I screwed?
Looking around the XDA community, it looks like Foxfi is no longer an option. Without root we are done with free wifi tethering for now. I hope Foxfi can come up with a work around. I am using usb tethering and Pdanet until someone beats this block.
Why is it just to much to pay the $30 for the hot spot? Thats a total of $79 a month for unlimited high speed data, check the cable and phone companies prices they are moving away from unlimited to tiered packages, comcast wants the same amount of money for 150 gigs a month, last month eac of my 5 lines used that apiece.
Foxfi just started working! Hope it continues.
Foxfi has been killed by our carrier Verizon. I believe I have found a work around and need testers. Currently I'm running foxfi on my Verizon OG5, none rooted with unlimited data Plan.

Edit: I heard that foxfi is working again? please confirm!
FoxFi also started working for me, again, around last Wednesday or so. Been working fine ever since. I'm on the road and have been using it as my hotspot for tablet and laptop almost 24/7 since then. No problems.
Hello all,
I tether with my phone via hotspot to my tablet about 5 times a month. Mainly when I am on the road to answer emails and the like with a device that I have a keyboard with. I have noticed that with the newer version of software for this phone, I can bypass the the check on my device but it gets throttled down to 128 kbps. I can work on email with this but it is very slow. Does anyone know a way around this at all?
I know people won't be happy and this doesn't seem like something people like anymore, but it is something I do need on rare occasion. I don't even use over 4gb a month on my plan even when I had the unlimited method before. On my plan which I have 4 devices for about 120 a month with unlimited data on mine (since I do stream a lot to the phone) I don't have the option to add tethering service to my plan. They want me to go to the new plans but then I will need to pay over 50 a month more for other services I do not use and I can not afford that. Any help or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
