well, you can temporarily use someone's qcn to check how much tax you'll have to pay for "a refurbished phone" once you get back the original imei.
Edit: This'll help

Seems my IMEI changed while flashing. Can I restore my old IMEI somehow?

Hey all. Got a brand new Note 3 about a week and a half ago from a T-Mobile store and it stopped connecting to network last week. I've been having a back and forth with T-Mobile and I was told that my IMEI was blocked and I was told to exchange the device. I found out today that the IMEI on the phone does not match the IMEI on the box. Seems this IMEI was blocked for non payment. Can the IMEI change from flashing roms? It's it possible to restore it somehow?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Ok short answer, NO.
It is not possible for a rom flash to change an imei. The rom is on a completely different partition. There is a lot more work involved in changing that and a simple flash would never be able to accomplish it.
if your imei on the phone doesnt match what is on the back of the phone then you need to take it back.

Where did you buy it from?
I highly recommend you do as the carrier suggests. Take the time to go visit them and do things "above board".

Reusing a LG Bootloader unlock.bin token

So my LGG4 is off getting repaired due to the dreaded bootloop issue. Once I have it back I plan on unlocking the Bootloader and rooting again. I have heard issues whereby repaired G4's get the 'DeviceID unmatched' error when applying for a unlock token via the LG website. I understand you can contact LG to get this rectified; however I have found the email from LG I got when I first unlocked the Bootloader, with the unlock.bin file attached.
My question is: Should I run into any DeviceID issues during the unlocking procedure, can I reuse this file to unlock my Bootloader, or do I need to go through the process to get another re-sent? The email details a specific DeviceID so my initial thought is a No, but I did wonder (hope) this number is just used to generate a generic token that is matched via the IMEI? Any help much appreciated.

Lol only reason i knew is cause i came across sam prob a few times now as u can suspect. Ive never heard of any problems with anyone and lg doing this. Should be pretty straight foward. Call em. Might have to goto a higher level of tech service not sure
Im just assuming standard support level is not very supportive lol.
This depends on how they fix your device.
Carphone Warehouse in the UK fixed mine by swapping the mainboard to a 701,
They did not tamper with the IMEI or Device ID's on the replacement board and swapped the sticker under my battery cover to reflect the new details.
I did not need to contact LG as i just requested an unlock for the new IMEI and Device ID Pair.
Hope you get sorted

i was assuming lg done his i didnt even know aftermarket companys did the repair authorized of coarse
they had to pull the device id off of the old one and program it to the new one so technicly they did tamper with it
they may have been able to pull the info from the imei i dont know but my note 5s device id changes from rom to rom sometimes and i have to update it with the company who unlocked it so it holds same imei
just trying to wrap my head around how they got uree bootlooped devices id as it can be changed even if iemi stays the same

I got a new IMEI and Device ID and just went through the unlock proceedure again with this new info.
Thats what i meant by them not tampering with it, I got a new device with my old casing/screen.
They did not transfer my IMEI or Device ID to the new board.
CPW are authorised on behalf of LG to repair the device and since i bought it from them it was easier/safer for me to take it into a store.

If it shows as stolen it means that the IMEI has been black listed by a carrier, being usable now would depend on what carrier you are using (all US carriers use the blacklist database to check the IMEI number). Unlocking your device has nothing to do with the "stolen" issue as showing as stolen means that someone has reported that device (that IMEI number) as stolen to their carrier. Once a device has been blacklisted there is really nothing you can do legally.
Just a quick warning, if you are thinking of buying a used phone, eBay or anywhere else, a LOT of the phones are either stolen or are still under contract (not paid for), so let the buyer beware because if the phone is blacklisted you just bought an expensive paperweight

Verizon Mobile Getting Bootloader Unlocked

Hi, I lost my Pixel 2 xl last week from my pocket. and bought a used one from a local shop here in Pakistan . Later when I tried to unlock bootloader , I found out it was a verizon model and I can't unlock it no matter what.
I just wanted to know that if I get the IMEI changed of this device, Will I be able to get the bootloader unlocked?? as the imei is the part which recognizes it as a verizon model
As far as I understand, verizon encrypts their bootloader and imei has nothing to do with that... Please correct me if I'm wrong.
AFAIK there is no hope of having a Verizon variant Pixel 2 XL with an unlocked bootloader.
I do know that several people have purchased "unlocked" devices only to find out the "unlocked" referred to their ability to be used on any carrier network; NOT to have the bootloader unlocked.

Thanks a ton for your reply. But that's what the issue is.. I have no idea whether the imei is related to it or not? that is my basic question if someone else can help me out

No, they are not related. You can google it if you'd like. Unlocking or relocking the bootloader will have no effect on the IMEI number. However, changing the IMEI number is considered illegal in several countries. So check your local regulations before you attempt to do so.

Thankyou . Well Yes it is illegal in my country too but I thought I could take the help of local police for that. but I guess after your reply it's useless to change the IMEI number

Samsung S20 IMEI EMPTY & BASEBAND UNKNOWN!

Hi,
I am from Oman. I bought Samsung S20 T-Mobile/Unlocked version G981U from ebay which was confirmed by seller that it will work overseas and got delivery via shopandship by aramex.
Later found that it is T-mobile locked and has bad ESN. So my friend suggested to use unlock service from ebay to unlock so that I can use worldwide.
I bought unlock service, seller told to pay direct to PayPal and connected to my PC using team viewer. He worked for more than 3 hours and he couldn't do it. He refunded. Then I found IMEI is empty! BASEBAND UNKNOWN!.
He said it is not his mistake. IMEI is bad, so unlock was not successful.
Initially I sent him IMEI. But still he doesn't accept.
Can someone please help me to recover imei?
Thanks so much in advance.
what does that have to do with anything?

Open case with ebay, clearly you got scammed
reflash firmware in odin then factory reset should give you imei back, but yes open case ebay and return it

Actually I got scammed by 2 sellers. But I cannot open a dispute since I paid to unlock service via Paypal not eBay and now because IMEI is damaged, I cannot return it to the seller in eBay also! :crying:
Ebay seller delivered a mobile with IMEI!

Tried twice flashing it using ODIN but no use!. IMEI is empty. I read in some forums that IMEI can be repaired only if BASEBAND is known but mine showing unknown!.
Is there any other option?. I am not familiar with flashing so my friend did it using teamviewer.
