My phone is currently running QPGS30.82-141-13. I rooted my phone using Magisk. I just recently got a notification for the ....141-15 update, so I flashed the original boot file to unroot my phone. I downloaded the new firmware boot.img file anticipating patching it with Magisk once my phone is updated. The only problem is when the update gets to 22% it crashes and never completes the update. My question is after I unroot my phone to update is there something else I need to to do get a successful update? Thanks.

My wife and I both have a SM-T900, mine is rooted hers is stock. Today she received the OTA update but I get a message that my device is modified and the update is not available. I then connect my device to my PC using Kies 3 and it tells me that a update is available. My question is can I go ahead and update my rooted device, will it screw anything up, will I still have rooted afterwards or will I have to re-root? I still have stock recovery.
yea, you just lose root after the update and you can re-root afterward. you wont lose anything. The update is very minimal so i would say wait until the official Lollipop comes out to update it.
Hi, i have some kind of problem with my nexus 7 2013.. I already have lollipop 5.1.1 official on my tablet and have root and unlocked bootloader (root with king root, yes it works and is rooted.. And bootloader unlocked with boot unlocker.. I know you might think that this are not the best way of rooting or unloking the bootloader but it worked for me and im happy) and since yesterday the tablet keeps telling me to update via OTA the 5.1.1 update witch i already have..i press update to install it as normal, it reboot as normal too and when it shows me the parte where it suppose to be installing the update (you know, with the android with the chest open part) the only thing that says is "error" it doesn't install anything..i did this like 3 times now and every one of them says error.. The annoying part is that it keeps showing me the notification to update it..so any solutions? Thanks!
Sorry for bad english blah blah...
You can't take ota updates if you modify system files, you did that with root. Don't know why it's showing you 5.1.1 when you already have it.
Just flash the factory image with fastboot (probably no need to wipe, just flash boot.img and system.img and format cache).
That should fix the problem. It will also remove root. I'd recommend not using that king root **** but whatever. Probably better to just flash the su zip in twrp or use CF-Auto-Root.
When the next update comes remember you won't be able to take the ota. But that doesn't matter since google posts factory images and all you need to do is flash it with fastboot, then root again.

There's a new 5.1.1 = LMY48G
Original 5.1.1 is LMY47V
^Oh yeah, lol.
Still the rest of my post will get it installed for op.
Hey all, I'm still on June 1st security patch (NCX26.2), T-Mobile variant and stock, with bootloader unlocked which seems to be preventing my phone from updating to the latest OTA. I'm getting served with NCX26.7, but the update keeps failing.
Could someone post step by step on how to update my phone to the most recent rootable OTA (perhaps sideload?), and then what would be the easiest way to root. I don't mind wiping the entire device as long as it gets me to the latest software patch.
*EDIT* Now looking at the settings, it seems like I've flashed my Kernel months ago, which is likely what's causing my phone not to update. If I follow the Flash-all guide, will that reset the kernel to stock? Screenshot attached.
Many thanks!

yes
My pixel 2xl is rooted , I rooted my device after getting november security patch
Now Whenever i check for OTA it says your system is uptodate
I thought it's because of the root so i unrooted it by opening magisk app
And choose (1- restore image 2- complete unroot)
My device restarts and i check for ota again but still its not showing any ota

Probably some leftovers hanging in there. You should try rolling an update with a factory image but take out the -w from the script first so you don't lose your data. That may not be enough though. Personally if your committed to taking ota updates I would do a completely fresh install and wipe the phone.
All that being said, I'm confused as to why you are routine about ota at all. Doing monthly updates with the factory updates is super easy and very fast.
I'm at work and don't have the time to get you all the details but if @Badger50 is around I'm sure he can copy paste the instructions from one of his many posts.
I downgraded my phone to Android 8 with the July 2018 security patch. I rooted it with Magisk (v18.1 and Magisk Manager v7.1.1) and I still get OTA updates. Previously, on Android 9, when I had Magisk installed it showed that the installation has failed, but apparently now it has downloaded successfully and I have the option to restart it so the update can be applied. Should I go for it or will I end up in bootloop or something like this?

Ota update will come but won't intall, you should look at https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-install-magisk-proper-support-ota-t3836952
But my advice: un-root your phone and upgrade firmware and root again, this is the most safe way. If you do guide's way your device can get bootloop.

The weird thing was that even though my device was rooted the OTA was downloaded and it just asked for a restart to apply it. I managed to get the OTA done eventually by un-rooting the phone and applying the update as you said, thanks a lot!
