IDK about AOSP-based ROMs, but MIUI only shows NEW notifications on lockscreen. When you unlock and relock the screen, the notification disappears from Lockscreen (but still accessible by dragging down notifications).
Other than that, make sure "Show on Lockscreen" is enabled for WhatsApp, but it should be by default.

I use my GNex as my primary workhouse. The ONLY thing it doesnt do that I would love (and honestly, I need it) is for a lockscreen notification for my calendars and maybe even SMS.
When my screen is locked, I get the vibration/sound but I really would like it to light up the screen and show a popup notification (aka iPhones)
How can I get this? I suspect an App won't do? Do any ROM's support this (AOKP?)
Does such a thing exist?
For text messages, check out SMS popup - not sure if it works on a lockscreen or not but seems to be a solid app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.everythingandroid.smspopup&hl=en
Use Notifierpro

Lockscreen notifications
Hi.
Nicolas from Productigeeky here, creator of NotifierPro.
To get lockscreen notifications, you may want to try our last app LockerPro Lockscreen.
This is a lockscreen replacement with stacking notifications.
Regards.

The notification panel should act like stock.
A screenshot would be useful as i'm not quite sure what you are referring to
i took two photos
when i get a message (facebook, whatsapp, etc)
and slide down from the top to open what i call the notification bar
i get this control panel (like you can see in the picture)
when i press the icon on the top right of the screen
it switches to the notifications (as you can see on the second pic)
now my question is if there a way to cancel the control panel and leave it just for notifications?
keep it simple you know
thanks for the help

In Settings - Toolbars there should be an option "Quick pulldown" which allows the right edge of the status bar to pull down the quick settings.
Uncheck the option
Hey guys, I'm looking for a rather particular lockscreen that I just can't seem to find. I'm wondering if anyone on here could help me find a good one. Features I'm looking for:
-some form of security (PIN or pattern)
-SMS notifications at the LEAST (compatible with third party texting apps like Textra). I would prefer to have all notifications available on my lockscreen, but I can live with just SMS.
-Integrated music controls
-Custom screen timeout time
-Elegant looking
So far the closest I've found was ACDisplay, but there's a couple of things I don't like about it. Firstly, having to click a notification to view it defeats its purpose. I want to be able to glance at my phone to see who texted me without having to touch it. Also, every so often I'll get the "swipe down to exit full-screen mode notification." Snaplock came close, but the music integration is sub-par and there lacks custom screen timeout. Anyone have ideas?
try "My Locker"..............................limit is your imagination only

I guess you are on kitkat or below, as the G3's Lollipop lockscreen does feature notifications! As well as optional security (pin, knock code, facial recognition) and looks quite minimalistic. So if you're not on Android L yet, you coukd give it a shot otherwise I recommend the same locker as stated in the previous comment:good:
I don't agree. LG's 5.0 lockscreen is terrible. Notifications might display, but you can't open them when you tap on lockscreen like you do on stock android, but you have to unlock the screen, pushdown notification tray and then click notification (wtf LG?). The second killer of LG's 5.0 lockscreen is that when you put swipe to unlock, sometimes it fails to unlock. Even though I swipe, the screen stays locked and you have to swipe again to unlock. That happens to me in 20% of unlocking screen so I removed lockscreen altogether and now found third party lockscreen which isn't much better, but at least it unlocks when I swipe it.

About notifications....
Actually, coming from Nexus 4 with Lollpop, I was dissapointed to see my new LG G3 having trouble with notifications:
Lockscreen always show notifications, BUT swiping left or right doesn't open the corresponding app (ex. dialer for unanswered calls), NEITHER double clicking on the notification does... INSTEAD I have to click one time the notification and after that swipe the lower part of the lockscreen to unlock and go to the corresponding app... It just feels akward to me... Any solutions?
And something else: sometimes when i swipe down the notification bar, i can see the app name and instead of the message i see: hiden content!!! But this is not all the times... Do you believe i have something wrong on the settings?
Thanks in advance...

Unlocking the phone, right after tapping a notification opens that notification for me. Seems a little odd but I've gotten used to it.
Not using any PIN/Knock/Pattern.
Is there a way I can choose which notification shows up on the lockscreen? Specifically I want to have only one app show notification on the lockscreen, but not others. In order to do that I have to disable notifications of all other apps. But I want other apps to show notification in the notification bar, just not on the lock screen. Any way to do this?

On nougat, theoretically yes. Go to settings -> notifications. Then click the settings gear at the top. Should give lock screen notification options of all, hide sensitive content, hide all.
I think you can hide all here, then go to the individual app you want to show, and change it to show for that specific app.
Never tried this myself. Ymmv.

Once I choose "don't show at all" under settings - notification, I cannot enable notification on the lockscreen for specific app. However doing the exact opposite might do the trick. Under settings - notification, I choose "show all contents", then for specific app, I can choose "don't show" on the lock screen. This is very tedious, but it might do what I want my phone to do...

Once you clicked don't show notification at all, click on a app or game that you want to display the notification in lockscreen.
Then click "On the lockscreen" then "show all notification content".
Hope this helps you.
It is as simple as the title says.
When I swipe down to see al my notifications the one at the top doesn't expend automatically like on every other android device or ROM I ever used.
(This phone has the stock ROM, no bootloader, no root)
I used "universal android de-bloater" (uad gui) to remove some crap, mostly Samsung and Knox stuff, but I didn't remove anything that wasn't in the recommended list, or didn't have a clear description.
Is this a known issue? Or did I do something wrong?
Use a two finger swipe from the status bar to pull to notifications

Doesn't work. That just shows me more buttons and a clock. That's not what I want. I want the notification at the top of the list to show in the expanded mode.
That's just how OneUI is set by default
