Question San Francisco T-Mo connectivity issues - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Since purchasing the P6P last November, I have had chronic bad signal, 5G/4G bounce, and disconnects on T-Mobile. I am primarily in the Castro, upper Market and inner Richmond areas.
Is anyone else in San Francisco having T-Mobile connectivity issues? I'm trying to determine if this is the s***** modem, a defective phone, or if T-Mo has gotten worse.
Let me know your thoughts.

Not sure about the phone, but I do know per testing that T-mobile/Metro phones connect to the Department of Defense network. I've seen both the 21.0.0.0/8 DOD & 6.0.0.0/8 Fort Huachuca, US Army block ip variations as the local ip address on phones linked to T-Mobile. Your local ip of your phone will be one within those address blocks connecting to T-Mobile. It seems that T-Mobile may be using the DOD networks as a Firewall/Filter/NAT before entering the T-mobile networks. These ip addresses tend to vary between DOD & direct connections to T-Mobile. That could be the isssue.
Or, check your settings on the phone & reset all Network options to default. Maybe that will clean up any semi-bugs with connectivity.

I'm not in CA and have had similar issues with this phone - that is, until flashing the modems from the recent Android beta builds. I'm currently using the 12.1 beta (QPR3B3) modem whilst on the Android 13 Beta (TPB1) build.
Hopefully the normal Android bugs get ironed out of the Android 13 beta in this months TPB2 release.
*Edit* - Dang. I forgot to mention that I also have T-Mo lol

Thanks for the response. I see on whatismyip.com the IP address starts with 172.x. I have reset all network options again - done this a few times.
However, the connectivity is so messy. I am between 4g and 5g towers so this does cause bounce depending on which end of the apartment I am in. When I set to only 4g, I will completely lose signal at times - inside or outside my apartment for the surrounding blocks.
I am hoping someone in SF with T-Mobile might respond to see if their experience is similar.

Thanks! I am on the latest 12.1 QPR3B3 (Build S3B1.22042 from 4MAY22). I don't understand how you can be on the 12.1 beta modem FW but on Android 13 beta build? Any guidance would be appreciated as I thought that moving to A13 Beta would wipe out the 12.1 beta build?

You can flash any of the radio.img files made for this phone. Your mileage may vary as to how a different radio.img will work for you.
Naturally, you can't use an OTA if you're doing this, at least not without restoring the proper radio.img (and boot.img if that's rooted).

Got it! Thank you. The radio file, not the build.

I'm also in the Bay area and have amazing signal. Maybe it's all the human sh*t all over SF that's causing the issue.

[Q] Femtocell and Android 2.2

I have a raph 101 (at&t fuze) running the latest kernel and latest xdandroid build. I have a femtocell (at&t microcell) and I don't think I've ever been able to receive data (been testing android for a few months now), however, my upload seems to be fine.
If I disconnect the femtocell and connect to the crappy service in my area I can get full speed upload/download.
So what I'm wondering is if anyone else is running a femtocell and if they are also having trouble with their down-side connection. I dont think its a network issue as I have tried everything from opening ports in my firewall to adding the femtocell to my dmz.
Suggestions welcome...
PS: Windows mobile can reach the internet and has perfect upload/download speeds.
I heard some guys on Sprint having the same issue with their airrave... Does WinMo automatically connect to your femtocell or do you have to tell WinMo to use it?
Both os's automatically connect as the femtocell becomes the strongest signal and so the radio just does the standard tower handoff.

That's what I would expect... Hm. Very odd, as I don't see how the phone would care whether it's connected to your femtocell or to the normal towers.
You may want to poke around on IRC & ask if anyone uses a device like this. Never heard anyone talk about it - sorry I can't really can't provide any help here...
Yeah I'll try irc but I think its gonna require a bug report to the kernel guys. There must be some sort of low level difference between a femtocell and a tower as far as the kernel communicating with the radio is concerned.

MetroPCS blocking data on flashed phones

I can confirm that MetroPCS is blocking flashed phones from using their 3G data network as of today, November 5, 2012. I had my Epic 4G slider flashed to Metro around 9 months ago. 3G worked up until today. I let my service lapse (for all of 12 hours) and after I paid to have it reconnected, my 3G no longer worked properly. It is actually still connected to the Metro 3G network and 3G shows in the top bar, but the only webpage accessible is a page titled "metropcs_tethering_message" which states:
"Per the Terms and Conditions of Service, Tethering / Mobile Hotspot is not currently supported. Please visit --- for terms and conditions of use."
To be clear, I am not tethering or using the phone as a hotspot... just trying to surf with the phone itself. The days of flashing to MetroPCS and using data seem to be over. I wonder if it has anything to do with their impending merge with T-Mobile?
Time for me to find another inexpensive call/text/data solution.
[email protected] MetroPCS!
Its been like that ever since they blocked tethering.. some cities were opted out from 3g before tethering was blocked. Requesting the desktop version of a site on a metro phone makes that same message appear. It's likely to be an easy workaround but worth the trouble? Certainly not. I suggest you take a look at the virgin mobile guide in my sig.

Well, an interesting development...
After buying a new (to me) GSM sim-based phone (LG Optimus G2X) and signing up with SimpleMobile, I was prepping my Epic 4G slider for sale and re-flashed my rom to the same custom rom I had been using for many months (ThunderHawk EG22 with Nubernel 2.6.35.7 kernel). After I did this, my data connection started working again. Might not stick, but it's been on for a couple hours now.
Now, this wasn't some glitch or bug in my system that caused the data connection to stop working as stated in my original post. I confirmed with MetroPCS that they were actively blocking my data connection, so it wasn't something wrong with my phone. However, after reflashing the rom, it works again! I'm still selling the phone though and moving on from GhettoPCS.
I'm posting this so anyone else who's had their data connection blocked can try reflashing their rom (even the same rom, apparently) to try to get their data connection back.
But once again, [email protected] MetroPCS for blocking flashed phones! Why do they care where we get our hardware to use on their shhitty service?

That may be the placebo effect, many outdated Epic Roms improperly displayed 3g icon when it was in fact 1x.. you should do a speedtest and verify its Evdo Rev A or Evdo RevB and not 1x..

Sprint LG G2 - ZVE Firmware Upgrade - Coming Soon!

Looks like Sprint has posted on their device RDF Page that they are now testing ZVE. Any input or leaks on what is to come? Hopefully WiFi Calling?!

That'll be nice if they finally being wifi calling that they've been promising for a while. Signal isn't the best where I live.
Hopefully they'll fix the ongoing LTE issues i've been having on ZVD as well. Sometimes the phone will drop to 3G and just stay there until I meddle with the settings.
Anyone know how upgrading goes if you've got it rooted? I haven't been on stock long with this phone and would rather not lose all of the customizations that i've done. (namely, replaced nearly all of LG's customized apps with stock looking ones)

I have the same problem with mine, but I don't think it's necessarily an issue with the phone directly. I just got my wife the Galaxy S5 Sport and the lady I dealt with at the Sprint store started to explain "This is a tri-band phone, and since we don't have Spark here, it may get stuck in 3G occasionally. To fix that just put it in airplane mode for a few seconds and then back out". I told her I'd been having the same issue with my G2 and she said it's common on all their Tri-band phones.

Well, I never had this problem with the phone while I was on CM11 so it's not the hardware, it's got to be an issue with their spark enabled radio firmware. (had ZV8 radio on the phone until I used the zvc .tot file to restore it to stock)

The problem and solution you describe are related to the eCSFBbug which has been fixed. It was an issue at the tower level and caused triband phones to stay on 3g. This should not be an issue any longer, so your Sprint rep needs to update their support knowledge.
Anyone who is able to return to LTE after being stuck on 3g for more than a few minutes by toggling airplane mode probably needs to perform the BSRtimer fix (G2 only)

Yeah.. good luck with that, I saw the procedure to get one's MTR, annoying looking and potentially "interesting" in a bad way.
Everyone says just use this dialer code except it doesn't work on ZVD and the alternative is the bad looking one.

All you need is your MSL which isn't hard to get. Sprint gives it to you anytime you activate a phone, and if you didn't save that record then just go to Sprint chat and ask for it. If they ask why tell them you are doing a hands free activation.

Waiting for ZVE is certainly another valid option. My wife also has a G2 and I simply advised her to ignore the ZVD update knowing there would be a fix released eventually.

source code has been posted on lg website. OTA should be within the next week or two. (at least thats what i am thinking)
For those complaining about WiFi calling (I was one of them), just use Hangouts as it now has Google Voice integrated. No need for Sprint's crappy apps. Merge your Sprint number with GoogleVoice and install the Goigle Dailer app and Hangouts will give you a WiFi calling tab/Dialer.
Its great because now I get SMS messages on my laptop in Chrome browser as well as calls routed from my Sprint number.
T-Mobile supports only Google Voice "Lite", I just switched to them, but it works just as well. Despite my Sprint sim being deactivated (Ported to T-Mobile) , my G2 can make calls why WiFi calls.

That is odd, it was crystal clear for me compared to Sprint's network, new motto; "Sprint, disconnecting America"
Anyway try disabling SIP ALG on your router, some have a bad implementation of it. With my Netgear R8000 no issues here. It could also be due to wireless interference as it will be worse for the G2 as it only has one antenna unlike laptops which usually have 2. I live in a 2.4 congested neighborhood so I use the dual 5Ghz bands on my router as Im the only one here with a 5ghz supporting router.

Yeah, Shibbys tomato is why I specified my firmware. I am 15 feet from my 802.11ac router and am connected 5g on all my supported devices. It sounds like **** at work as well.. I have a SIP dialer on my phone for my work VOIP and it is crystal clear compared to hangouts on my phone.. It isn't Facebook messenger bad, but it isn't good. I have an airrave at home hooked up via a wireless bridge since I have no windows in the area near my router downstairs. It sits upstairs and all my calls using airrave are fantastic. Again I personally find that the hangouts voicecalls suck either in Stock or AOSP (tried both) My Brother has the same phone as does my sister in law and they quite agree. I have tried the sprint wifi calling on a friends phone and it sounded fantastic compared to my g2 in hangouts
Wow, I am sure they would update it get rid of any quirks in the future. Just curious, what router do you use? I used to have Netgear WNDR3800 but Netgear gave me an R8000 for free as a beta tester, range and VoIP are better.
I am not claiming to be 100% correct on this. But from what I have understood. ZVE will not bring wifi calling. The update is going to be minor ui enhancements dealing with lockscreen and a couple of widget updates. The update also addresses some minor bug fixes. Dont hold me to it. Just passing it aloing. I asked about LG G3 Ui and was told only lockscreen and widget enhacments. No launcher or new apps of any sort.

Wifi tether slowness

Has anyone else experienced slow download speed when using wifi tether? I can do a speed test on my phone and get 40mb/s then connect to the OP3 tether from my laptop and it will not even get 1mb/s. Max I got this morning was .69
I am as well. I just noticed this and haven't been able to figure it out just yet.
What carrier and OS are you on? I'm on T-Mobile and running the initial CM13 Unofficial build from 07/03.
I've been messing with my APN settings, but I don't think that's the issue. I wonder if it has to do with T-Mobile not recognizing the OP3 as an allowed device or something like that.
Were you able to figure it out?
OK, so I restored to the Stock OOS 3.2.1 backup I had made, and tethering is fast and working as it should. So maybe it's a CM13 thing. I'm going to download the latest official nightly and see if that fixes it or not. I'll report back once I do.

Rather than try to discuss this in the Offical CM thread, I'll try to keep any related info in this one. Here's what I found out recently:
OK, so far I have tried the latest builds of CM13 Official, BlissROM, Dirty Unicorns, and RessurrectionRemix, and they all exhibit extremely slow WiFi tethering speeds between 0.01Mbps - 1.5Mbps, The only ROM that returns expected WiFi tethering performance is the Stock Oxygen 3.2.2 (between 20-50Mbps).
It would be really nice if anyone here could run some quick speedtests while tethering to Hotspot to let us know what you get and what carrier!
Click to collapse
And one user in the CM thread ran a test and had steller performance:
Notebook: Lenovo Thinkpad X220
Carrier: O2 Germany
32 Mbps over Wifi Tethering
Phone is on 3107 official CM
Click to collapse
So...without additional results from other users/carriers/ROMs, now I am thinking that maybe it is related to T-Mobile somehow. I wonder if maybe T-Mobile isn't recognizing 3rd party ROMs (and somehow is aware of Oxygen OS), and then throttles the tethering. I tried changing my device on their website to my previous HTC m9 with no change in tethering performance.
Anyone else care to test WiFi tethering speedtest for us (me)? Please also list your ROM and carrier.
TIA.

Thanks.
Just tried aicp and still had slow tethering. Only got about 1Mbps down. What speeds do you get?
T-Mobile does seem to be a common denominator though.
UPDATE: There are actually two AICP roms, and I had originally tried the 'KRYO" version, with slow tethering results. I just tried the "Unoffical" version and the speeds were better, at about 3.5Mbps. It's usable, but not great compared to OOS.
Interestingly, I only started using the [then] Unoffical CM13 rom on July 18, and my data usage shows about 1.5GBs of tethering usage. I didn't notice any issues with slowness until the end of last month, so I feel like it was working for a while in order for me to rack up so much usage.
My thoughts are that T-Mobile is throttling me, but I am on the 6GB plan (with full tethering allowance), and so far this month have only used ~2GBs of data.
I may try to call them later if I can and report back.
Any other T-Mobile users noticing wifi tethering slowness when using a custom rom?
It's almost the only thing with this phone that I really hate is, wifi tethering...it just does not work, atleast not properly...couple of times even random bootups...really annoying....it just that I need it with my laptop. It's not only the tethering which is working poorly it's also keeping up with the lte or 3g connection. It is changing too easily from lte to gsm only (edge)..As I said it's good with my other phone but not with this. I live in Finland and I have telia-sonera carrier. Elisa (carrier) is selling the phone here , it shouldn't matter(or maybe it should), but all the apn and others are configured fine.

Thanks for the update. Yours is the first in this thread that is not using T-Mobile and are experiencing the slow tethering issue.
I ended up calling T-Mobile and they were not able to resolve the issue. They escalated the issue to a higher level of technical support and said I should be hearing back from them in a few days. I'm not counting on anything, though.
I'm on Vodafone in NZ as well as on 2 Degrees in NZ and both have slow tethering speeds. My old LG G2 was much faster while tethering
Fixed it! (for T-Mobile at least)
It's an APN issue, at least for T-Mobile USA.
Just go into the SIM Card settings and edit the Access Point Names (i.e. APN) for the T-Mobile US LTE
Change the APN from fast.t-mobile.com to epc.tmobile.com (no hyphen). Use the menu option to Save the settings, then test the hotspot. For me, this worked instantly and without a reboot. Got 20Mbps down on my first Speedtest!
Yay!

I wanted to chime in and say Thank you for this. I changed my APN and am getting upwards of 26Mbps via hotspot. It does appear that I lost IPv6 but I'm not too worried about that right now.
Again, Thanks a lot!

Awesome. Glad I could help!

Yay!

This worked! you are a serious life saver dude!! woo hoo
This is what I found lately. When I received the OnePlus 3 last week, I tested the Hotspot functionality and it worked only with epc.t-mobile.com APN. However, after couple of days, the tethering became very slow on my other devices even though the speeds are of D/U 100 Mbps/20Mbps respectively.
Even though the tethering is slow, when I test for Speedtest.net on my laptop it still shows good speeds but no other website works. Then I filed a ticket with OnePlus thinking that hotspot tethering is not working. But then, I called up T-Mobile to check with them. They said I crossed the 5GB hotspot tethering limit and so they are automatically gets throttled. They said since they use speedtest.net for most of the testing purposes, that website is allowed automatically even through tethering and so it works.
In order test if it is the limit or a defect with the device, I requested T-Mobile to add little more bandwidth to my 5GB hotspot cap so that I can test it again before my billing cycle ends and they helped with the request. Voila, now the hotspot tethering works again super good. I have been testing on and off for the past few days and it is working pretty good since I did not cross the additional bandwidth yet. I am looking for a proper solution though so not to use the native hotspot which counts against the hotspot limit.
So, the native hotspot feature counts against the T-Mobile hotspot cap limit.
Hope this explanation helps.

Roaming between wifi APs?

I'm having problems with Roaming inside my house.
I have 3 aps, and op7t sticks to one and doesn't want to switch to a better signal ap while I'm walking around the house.
Does anybody have this bug or I need to do a clean flash?
AFAIK it never worked for me since I got it although I only ever used 10.0.7 version
now I'm on blu_spark r70 kernel + magisk+ 10.0.7 OOS and still no progress. I really don't want to use 3rd party apps like wifi switcher as they do use extra battery life
Yes mine does this as well. I have a Ubiquity mesh network with three APs one is slower than the other two and it will stay locked onto that one. As I move to the other side of the house I'll loose my signal for ~10 seconds and then it will suddenly pick up the closer AP that is faster. I might have something wrong in the AP settings, but thought it was interesting someone else mentioned it. Maybe not. I need to play with the setting that forces connected devices to the fastest connection within the Ubiquity controller. That may be doing it. Though I didn't have the issue with my G8 previously. It was pretty seamless.
See if your AP has an option to kick off a client if their RSSI falls below a certain threshold. I have several asus/merlin flashed ap's which have this setting. My ap's are not set up as a mesh but the above helps with roaming between them.
Do you have a real mesh set up or just different AP's with same SSID's/different channels?

My htc10 is doing a perfectly fine job so I guess it's really just the OOS settings. I've seen some other people on Oneplus forums posting the same thing, even for previous devices (like 5 series)

Mine isn't a real mesh, just different channels and same security settings.
I have a couple devices I've been testing this setup with and for now only 7t and a samsung s5 wouldn't change to a better signal ap

Thanks I'll take a look. Mine is a real mesh system. All APs at 2.4 a 5ghz share the same password and SSID my wife's V30 and two daughter's Galaxy 9 phones don't seem to have the same problem. So I'm guessing it may be the phone, but I haven't had a chance to play with the Ubiquity settings as I travel about 300k miles on business each year. It's just hasn't been a priority, but I wanted to chime in to let others know they aren't alone. I'll be home all next week so it should give me some time to look at the AP coverage map and settings within the dashboard. At first I thought it was loosing its lease or something, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's moving from section to section of the house covered by different APs most likely. I did see someone on Reddit(?) mention a similar issue recently. I'll try to dig into it tomorrow.
Edit: Sorry they're all the same channels linked to a UAP AC M. Unifi mesh AP.
^^Sounds like the device isn't roaming well then. Maybe wifi thresholds can be adjusted through a magisk module. I don't recall seeing anything wifi roaming related in settings.
I suppose in my case, the ap's themselves handle this. Too weak a signal and ap kicks client off.
