Hey all,
I heard some phones can go beyond their fps cap by flashing a custom kernel with a set (or variable) refresh rate. I have searched through the internet about phone specific and also "Generic" solutions, but without success. Has anyone done it on the begonia/in?

I have a rooted GN (currently running AOKP Milestone 3 & Franco Kernel). I change rom's often (as I'm still trying to find my favorite). I use my phone for a lot of work things (I have 2 exchange accounts on it, lots of sensitive info, etc.) I see the option to encrypt the phone (says it takes about an hour and a password is required on every restart). I'm considering doing this, but I can't seem to find much info on this.
1- Any downsides to doing this (slow down the processor; drain the battery due to extra processing power, etc.)?
2- Is this a problem when flashing new roms?
3- Anything else I'm missing? I have lookout and cerberus installed (cerberus is baked in so no one can delete it).
Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know of an app that allows you to create custom speed profiles to limit your bandwidth? There is a way to do so on iPhones usng developer options and creating profiles. I know that I can change my network within my settings, but that would require me to reboot my phone. I need a way to swap the settings and continue to work, without rebooting the phone.
I'm testing an app for work and I need to be able to load different profiles on my phone to test loading and content delivery without rebooting.
I have flashed many Roms over the last year, Jedi Roms, Infamous Roms, Stock, and most recently Rushing's Shadow Rom. I have stuck to only Touchwiz based Roms since I need WiFi Calling to use my cell phone in my apartment.
The one thing I noticed every time I flashed is that the phone would get significantly slower after I rebooted the phone the first time after I installed a bunch of apps. (Not after the first one I do after the phone has resynch'ed contacts and stuff from google) Additionally, after a couple months the phone would get so slow that I would reflash a new Rom (generally, by this time a new version, but if a new version is not available, I usually switch Roms)
The apps I usually download include:
Google - YouTube, Maps
T-Mobile -Visual Voicemail
Media - Pulse, BeyondPod, a music player
Root stuff - Titanium, Rom toolbox, ES file explorer, etc.
Popular apps - Facebook, twitter, ebay, bank of america, etc.
Are any of these apps known to degrade the performance of your phone over time? Is there a way to diagnose which of these apps are running and when?
A second theory I have is that something on my SD card is either corrupt or not getting wiped properly. Then, these corrupt sectors/files cause performance to decrease over time? Has anybody heard of anything like this? Are there any utilities out there to look for corrupt file. Can anyone reccomend a SD cleaning app that might help if this is the case?
A third theory is that these customized Roms aren't as stable as they are thought to be. I don't believe this is the case since the developers on this forum are much smarter than me, and thoroughly test their roms. Additionally, I have seen this happen with Stock rooted also, which also discounts this theory.
Most of this is spit-balling so that people can see my symptoms (if you had similar symptoms, please share troubleshooting steps and resolution) as well as maybe trigger an idea in someone that has an easy fix to my issue. I like this phone a lot and I don't want to buy a new phone just to avoid these issues. I think this phone is still capable of handling the workload of a 2013 smartphone.
Please let me know any tests/logs that would help you help me solve this problem.
to all grand users,
i have been on sgg(GT 19082) for 6 months, but since the last month ,im encountering certain problems over my wifi...
1. i have tried many browsers(so mostly aint a browser issue) but still the time required to load any webpage needs a minimum of 15-25 sec.this is real frustrating as i was used to smooth and minimum loading time.similarly videos need 1-2 minutes to start and buffer time has increased too.
2. time required to initialise a download too has increased.what took 5-10 seconds now takes 1-3 minutes to just start up.gladly the download speed hasnt varied.(updates on playstore thus stack up)
3. on palystore, the result to any search takes 2 minutes(initially 3 seconds) and even after the results appear ,images of app and icon seem invisible.
this is defenitely not a internet issue as im not encountering any kinds of trouble on my pci have treid switching browsers and wiping data, flashing differnt roms but the problem seems to persist.
.hope anyone has had a similar situation before me.any kinds of solutions and suggestions are welcome.
The download speed is unaffected, but everything else seems to load very slow? It's not possible.
What ROMs have you tried? The scope of the problem can be very wide... Have you tried using another WiFi router and see if it's still slow?
Clean cache ?

From what the OP described if the download speed is the same but the buffering is slow, it sounds like there's either too many apps using or requesting the Wi-Fi simultaneously or over time, the cache and more likely, residual files, have piled up together in the app folders.
The bigger these folders get, the more the app itself has to search through it's files to use the current one, thereby causing a delay in processing/buffering time.
Cleaning cache would be a good idea, it should help for a little while like akiratoriyama suggested, otherwise it'll have to be a complete data wipe/format to fix the problem.
Recently I was plagued with reaching my data cap once again (usually happens every 2 weeks lol) and I decided to look up how to emancipate myself from this great burden (my speeds go from 9mbps down to 10kbps on LTE). On my last phone I removed it but differently than what I had found now. http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/12/13/how-to-evade-your-carriers-data-throttling-on-your-android-device/
According to this post on Android Police one would find a particular folder in the rom, remove the file, create a knew folder and push it over to the phone via USB.
I have not tried this method yet but am strongly considering it.
All you need is the rom and Android SDK on your computer, a rooted phone (in this case HTC Desire 816 a5_chl) with custom recovery (TWRP, CWM) and a USB cable.
When I get the chance, I plan on first finding the folder and possibly doing the process and creating a file for the rom I am currently on. Will create a backup.
Sounds very interesting. I went over my data cap in 7 days. Does this really work?
It is possible since the files act as a trigger. I wouldn't know for sure until I tried it. And also, it's possible it would only work if you did it before hitting your data cap; as that was the case on my previous phone. Right now, I am looking for safer, easier methods that do not require editing files in the rom. I found some apps that could possibly work. Supposedly, by making your network private (as a VPN (Virtual private network)) one could avoid detection of hitting the data cap and the companies detect the size of files you may download and if the file is large, they cause it to "fail;" thus, not downloading. I'll let ya know if I find a solution to the Data Cap.
As for hitting the data cap, phone companies can not constantly monitor your data use so they integrate a file into the phone which becomes automatically activated when you reach your limit. Also, I've noticed that my speeds automatically return to normal if I "restart my month."

Another website I found talking about the use of apps.
HTC desire 510 data cap removal.
I have been working on a data cap reset. Basically resets your data usage and to release the data cap. I am a Python Programer, however that doesn't help with java script based. Progams. If anyone knows more about java script it would help a lot. I have found that most of the data connectionservices in system/framework/services.jar file acesses system/bin/linker. However my I believe it would have to be something in the linker file, reads data usage and sets connection speed within connectionservices in the services.jar file. Any one have any ideas.
This sounds like a good way to get your cell phone plan cancelled. I've never heard of anyone doing this to their phone and I'm curious to hear from someone who got caught by their carrier doing it and what the consequences were.
Lol you guess is as good as mine I've attempted a handful of things with no success
