If I buy the chinese version of Honot Magic 4 Ultimate (Or Honor Magic 4 Pro Plus), will I be able to install Global Rom in it?
I am not sure if Bootloader unlocking/ rooting are possible on this device yet.
The better question:
Can we install play store without the hassle of magic pro 3?
The chinese version already comes with Play store, so that is not an issue.
But I want to be able to install the Global ROM on the Chinese phone, I am not sure if that is possible yet.

Are you sure? Chinese vendors are saying that it doesn't come with it.
i saw a lot of videos where on the magic 4 pro there was google installed on it. i bought the ultimate yesterday, can't wait to have it in my hands. hoping with google, but if not there are some workarounds like on the huawei p50 pro
found this maybe it works on ultimate https://www.techyloud.com/how-to-install-google-play-store-on-honor-magic4-lite/

From what I understand, the problem is this:
Honor phones that are released in China (Chinese variants) don't have GMS pre installed and it's nearly impossible to install them. Why? Because apparently those China models for some reason still use some HUAWEI code in the software!
A reviewer from China - Michael Elsegood, said the following regarding GMS installation on chinese phones:
"Most Chinese brands you are able to install but because of Honors use of Huawei’s code it still doesn’t work here in China unfortunately"
video here
Global variants are different, they come with Google services pre installed.
But what global Honor phones are there? Honor Magic 3/3 Pro? Nope. Magic 3 Pro Plus? Nope. Honor Magic 4 Pro? No, still not out yet in Europe and there's not even an official release date. As of right now, we only have the crappy mid rangers and low end phones such as Honor Magic 4 Lite and Honor 50.
I'm pretty sure the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate will be CHINA EXCLUSIVE, meaning no Google services... Sure the UNOFFICIAL WORKAROUNDS to install google MAY still work, but there's no certainty... It's a big risk to buy such an expensive phone. Just my thoughts.
And yeah, some tech reviewers uploaded hands-on videos on YouTube with the international (non-China) model of the Magic4 Pro, and that's why it had Google apps and Google Play Store visible on the home screen.
I'm by no means an expert on the matter, just sharing my observations from everything I've read.
well, it is like it is, had the p50 pro global, and used only gspace or chinese ourplay. but found a lot of alternatives that work great. my other thing is, i'm scaried that other launchers can't be installed. now i bought the phone already but i had an older honor phone with chinese firmware and i couldn't install an other launcher. that was a big bummer for me

Yes, many Chinese manufacturers make it impossible to change the stock launcher so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the case.
According to Honor UK, the Magic 4 Pro and other devices are coming on May 12th. No idea about other countries. And there is no word on the Magic 4 Ultimate, so it's most likely gonna be kept for China only.

Some updates
1. OurPlay : initial installation didn't work, contacted their customer service and they were great. It's working. I can't for some reason install Chrome.
2. Gspace : doesn't work, same error message as i shared earlier, contacted their customer service, zero response.
I have been patiently waiting like everyone else for magic pro 4/ultimate to come out in the UK. I was told that they will be released for pre order tomorrow on the honor website site here in the UK. Only includes the Cyan/black colours. Also something else which kinda pissed me off was that they are only releasing a 256gb and 8GB ram version. Not even a 512gb/12gb ram version at the moment. Im trying to replace my Huawei p30Pro which has the same ram and hard disk space. Seems kinda stupid really, you think if it was a flagship they would release the high ends.
Also I did try to also speak to the guys on ebay selling the 512gb ones in hong kong, they said they cant install as global version ROM on the phone yet. i don't fancy using G space etc, had enough issues with it on my huawei tablet, in the end I sold it
tried gspace and some apps work, like tinder, dazn and gmail, all other apps don't work, but i don't necessary need them. For youtube i use vanced and it works grat. The unique app i can't get to work is netflix. Does someone has a solution?

the question is in the title ^^, for precision, i would say that, since i have a phone, i use custom roms, the last i had was the samsung galaxy s5, the thing is that, custom roms have recurrent bugs on this device, we had to wait a long time to get a "stable" oreo rom on it, for example, camera and fingerprint were not working for a moment..
so i want to know if roms are stable and smooth on this phone, thanks

If you want custom roms etc just buy a OnePlus or Xiaomi device they're very popular among developers
oneplus are too expansive for me, but yea i heard that roms are perfect on this, and wich one xiaomi should i go with ? i know that xiomis are chinese phones, but do they work well on french bandwidths ?
i see that there's a **** ton of roms on the redmi note 4 "mido", the price is really low

Reason I don't recommend you to jump on the Pixel is not much development is going on, The Device will be EOL on P so Major updates will stop some of the newer budget devices will still have that 2 years OS support and much more custom roms that you're after I think it'll be a better buy, Pixel XL isn't a bad buy by any means just I think better value for your situation is to be had on other devices
Which bands do you need? If you buy from official Xiaomi French store should have your bands but check before buying anything

Hey guys! This is my first Chinese phone that I've had. Got it imported all the way from China to Europe. My question is rather simple...Do I get OTA updates on a Chinese version of the phone even if I am located in Europe? Is there any time difference in updates on a Chinese version versus the International one? I've been wondering because as of right now I am unable to use third party launchers, but Huawei said they would release an update to allow just that.

The updates depend solely on the Company that made the device & Google & if the company chooses to continue updates for that specific device, major companies usually guarantee 2 major Android OS updates as well as all the small path updates that they release for that device within the 2 year period for there high-end flagship devices & it's very popular mid-range devices, sometimes a company will decide to give certain special high-end devices or very popular mid-range devices 3 major updates spanding at 3 year & all the small security patch updates within that 3 year period but it is very rare, unfortunately Huawei has not been known for it's speedy updates, they are usually slower than Samsung but the company has made major changes the last few years & the quality of their devices has improved tremendously & now it flagship Mate 20 line comes with the latest Android version pre-installed & to my knowledge this a first for Huawei so hopefully they will focus more on updates.

I'm not sure if this is accurate b/c I didn't get updates for my Huawei Honor Note 8 in the US, the Honor Note 8 was only released in china, now the US is one of several countries that has a ban on all Huawei products so I don't if that has something to do with it.
I have the Huawei Mate 20 X EVR-L29 the c636 Asian international model & I did get a security patch update a day after I got the phone, I was shocked to get that update b/c as far as I have read Huawei phones & tablets will not receive updates in the US, I don't know if the update was something that was already received when it was in the factory before it was boxed & sold, Idk if each device is connected to WiFi before it's boxed or if the device actually got an OTA update in the US, I'm really hoping for the latter of the two but I'm not sure.

I got the updates 2 days ago, 9.0.0166 . I am on China Version L00 as well. All my Chinese phones ( LeTv X900, Xiaomi Mi Mix 6GB 256GB and Huawei Mate 20 X ) all of them running China ROM. Why i choose China ROM instead of Global and why i would never go Global on Chinese Devices ? Very Simple :
1 - Chinese ROM get updates very often and faster
2 - More stable
3 - Faster than the Global
Downside : Bloatware Apk's... This could be easily resolved by TWRP, Flash Root, Remove all the Bloatware.
Unfortunately, we have to wait for TWRP and Root for the Mate 20 X ...

Exactly!!!
We need some clever guy to find out how to jam the PRO firmware into it...
Until you have two pins in watch, not four, and you cant use USB connection to PC, and BT is locked to huawei health... Forget about that... Even if somebody will read firmware from watch memory, there will be no app tool ever to upload it into other watch...
May be posibble, but with standard tools, not via forum/internet... And with need to disassemple watch to get access to motherboard.
It looks like "the easiest" solution is extracting the firmware from health app and forcing the app to upload modified firmware... I am not definitely able to do that :-(
NFC upload? Maybe
I think that some effort definitely needs to be put on that watch... It has good hardware so why not have good software as well? Huawei adds one tiny feature every 2 months only to ensure new units will still be sold. I think when Huawei stops updating the watch we will all be on our own. I am definitely looking forward to seeing one with the skill required make a custom FW for it...
this would be great... you know, we can add .hwt faces via modded Huawei health app. So, there must be a way to cheat the updates of pro version. We just need effort of smart coder
Anything is possible!!!

Wow that's still very nice news! At least we will have a working app store... for the first time!
However what if Huawei decides to ditch support shortly after that? Let's say after it manages to make a stable version?

Actually they have the same SoC. I know nothing about RAM but it should be identical as well... We should have the ability to load our own firmware on the watch regardless...

I guess that is not the issue.
The issue is that Huawei Watch3 Pro has 2Gb of RAM and runs Harmony OS, while GT2/GT2 Pro has 32Mb RAM and runs Lite OS....
I guess what everyone is questioning, including me, is that if Harmony OS can run on 32Mb, why would they launch the Watch3 with 2Gb?

WOW! What a piece of information right here! My guess is that if they were to upgrade the GT2/GT2 Pro to Harmony OS AT ALL (cause it might just be advertising to sell the remaining units), it would be a very very stripped down version and/or sluggish. My opinion.
Now the only thing that could rescue us is again custom development. A port of Harmony OS with an increased page file would be a great place to start from...
if can, honor magic 2 owner would be happy ..... our firmware not update after honor split with huawei.
sad for us.
I'm looking to buy the new Redmi AirDots 3 Pro bluetooth earbuds.
Currently they are only available in China, but will likely be released Globally as Poco Pop Buds/Redmi Buds 3 Pro.
My questions:
Does matter which version of the earbuds buy (Chinese version or Global version)?
Anyone have experience buying Xiaomi Chinese version bluetooth earbuds and getting it to work in Xiaomi.EU or Global rom?
Hi!
Yes, it matters.
First of all, both the global and Chinese versions are the same product and have the same audio quality.
but there are some pros of buying the Chinese version:
You'll get the product earlier since every Xiaomi product is first released in China.
And, you'll be able to use XiaoAI (MiAI) app. This app allows you to update your earphone's firmware, and also to configure the button's action (You could configure them to go to the next and previous song).
This app is only compatible with Chinese airdots, not with global versions (It's kinda weird, but that's how it works)
So, long story short, if you buy the Chinese version, you'll have a few more functionalities.
I bought Airdots 3 (Non-pro version) recently. As far as I know, the audio quality and connectivity are pretty much similar to the airdots 3 pro, but they'll have wireless charging and active noise cancellation.
Regular Airdots 3 doesn't have these two features, but they're more affordable and have better battery autonomy.
doesnt matter as much. same audio quality(audio quality is all that matters right? who cares about those ai updates)
Just waiting for some reviews, will probably wait for the Poco version.
Apparently voice prompts are in Chinese on the Redmi version.

sometimes, those apps can actually improve audio quality, connection stability, and battery consumption. There will be some improvements, so I don't think those updates aren't important at all.
But anyway, the difference in audio quality between global and chinese won't be anything impressive or incredibly high

Not necesarily, You can use either XiaoAI and Google Assistant on the Redmi Version
XiaoAI is only available in simplified mandarin
But Google Assistant is available in every language, so that isn't a problem at all. You won't even have trouble configuring anything, because the earphones will use google assistant if it is your default audio assistant. So nope, you won't have problem with chinese voice prompts

XiaoAI is only available in simplified mandarin
But Google Assistant is available in every language, so that isn't a problem at all. You won't even have trouble configuring anything, because the earphones will use google assistant if it is your default audio assistant. So nope, you won't have problem with chinese voice prompts

Is the app to control the AirDots 3/Pro only in Chinese text?

What about Voice Prompts as Low Battery, or Phone Numbers when an incoming call.

And, you'll be able to use XiaoAI (MiAI) app. This app allows you to update your earphone's firmware, and also to configure the button's action (You could configure them to go to the next and previous song).

I have Samsung Galaxy S7, and I want to buy the new Redmi AirDots 3 Pro.
I can install the XiaoAiLite_qr App (latest version 2.10.20) from this link.
(The standard version (Mi Ai) that I downloaded from apkmirror cannot be installed on my device).
The app works (all in Chinese of course).
My question is will I be able to use the app with the Airdots 3 Pro, even though my device is not of xiaomi.

The ear buds should be working with other brand phones, but in case if the app does not work, or some issues appears, better ask how to solve issues in your phone forum.
People here can't solve your issue, unless they have Samsung Galaxy S7 or Samsung phones to test on or had some experience on Samsung phones.
There are 2 XiaoAi lite app translate into English, but maybe not updated, you have to test it yourself.

sometimes, those apps can actually improve audio quality, connection stability, and battery consumption. There will be some improvements, so I don't think those updates aren't important at all.
But anyway, the difference in audio quality between global and chinese won't be anything impressive or incredibly high

Firmware updates can be critical to audio quality.
Took Samsung over a year to fully dail the Buds/Buds+ in.
The difference is very noticeable, night and day.
Apparently it -is- rocket science

Thanks. The app works for me with the headphones, and it is also possible to do a firmware update (Xiaomi AirDots 3 Pro, Chinese version), even though the phone is Samsung.

Check if it remains in the app's cache folder.
For example for the "Xiao Ai Lite" app, it's in this folder:
Android/data/com.xiaomi.xiaoailite/cache

Hey, I've published all firmwares I have, including 1.0.3.15 for Redmi Buds 3 CN. You can find them here - https://github.com/BurgerZ/MiBudsM8

Do you have a guide on how to update manually?
To update manually you have two options:
1. Turn on alternative server in app's settings, this is my server with all that firmwares I published on Github. Than just go to the main screen and check for updates as usual
2. Fully manual - on the main screen tap several times on battery views, then scroll down, there you should find "Update from file" menu item. Just select the OTA file and flash it.
Error at the could arise, but not always this is actually error, because it compares FW versions installed and online, and if they differ error pops up, in case of manual installation version online could be the same or even smaller, so this is OK to see the error message in this case.

I'm looking to buy the new Redmi AirDots 3 Pro bluetooth earbuds.
Currently they are only available in China, but will likely be released Globally as Poco Pop Buds/Redmi Buds 3 Pro.
My questions:
Nox Vidmate VLCDoes matter which version of the earbuds buy (Chinese version or Global version)?
Anyone have experience buying Xiaomi Chinese version bluetooth earbuds and getting it to work in Xiaomi.EU or Global rom?

I'm currently using the same Redmi AirDots 3 Pro earbuds (Global Version) and for the most part I haven't had any issues with them. The sound quality is great and there battery life is great.
This year, alongside the flashy new BS5 and BS5 pro, they have silently announced the 5RS, which is basically a refurbished BS4 pro / BS4S with a new skin.
It's only released in China so naturally, they're all Chinese ROM.
I bought this exact model, but I missed the fact that black sharks cannot go thru the usual process of mi unlock.
What's the best way to around it? Assuming that everything is basically the same thing as 4 pro, image and TWRP are there on mifirm, but not sure how to go about this.
thanks a lot in advance to all the geniuses in this forum, thanks!

Black Shark 5 RShave a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+
Black Shark 5 Prohave a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1
Hi, thanks for the reply, yes I recognize that. My point was that 4 pro / 4s pro / 5rs all have very similar everything. 4s pro and 5rs even have the same chipsets.
