[Q] Google Services Draining Batery

Dear Community!!!
So Days ago i upgrade my Xperia ZL to kit kat, everithing ok a couple days, fantastic.....but, was suddenly my phone without battery, the problem? google play service was draining the 85% to my battery. When i upgrade to 4.3 firmeware i had the same trouble and then i maked to flash again. Also, this time i just did a factory reset and then everithing ok a couple days... but again, suddenly, google play service is draining all life to my phone...So, somebody knows whats the problem anda what can i do (whitout flashing again)... thanks buddies

The issue is a location wakelock, there are two ways around it disable location if you don't use it, or disable Google now.
If you are rooted, u can uninstall the Google search app from system and reinstall it from play store

Ok, if i understand, i must disable location? how i do that? yes i root i gonna unistall google serch and a itold you... very very thanks dude....

you have an option in settings to disable location
since you are rooted,look for "wakelock detector" and "disable service" in play store,
'wakelock detector' will tell you what apps or services are causing it, and then u can disable that particular service using the 'disable service' app

A lot of thanks Xyge... I download the app than you sugest and AppOps to remove permissions at Google Search, especifically location and screen awake... apparently works better and services not drining the battery... Again XYGE thanks a lot

I discovered something else.
I reinstalled my Phone again with Android 4.4.2. I installed all my apps. Using the Google Now Launcher.
Batterie consumptions seems normal. I see wake locks but acceptable.
But when driving to home from work I used Avertinoo (A radar notifying application that uses GPS). At home I closed the application. But suddenly I saw that the phone stays awake all the time. And Google Service is responsible for 86% of battery consumption.
Only solution, restart of the phone.
I did several test with this application. A short usage of the application does not seem to trigger the problem.
I did a test with Navigon (Navigation software) and I got the same problem.
So I think any application using the GPS for to long, will cause a problem with the Google service (endless loop due to time out ?).

Instead of disabling location, setting the location mode to "device only" was enough for me.

it's actually a wakelock, whenever an app requires the phone to be awake(say use gps) it sets a wakelock until some condition is satisfied(as u said endless loop), point is its not due to time out but some weird issue that is coming up with the google apps of our particular device....that's why a restart solves it or at times it may not occur for hours of usage of an app and next time it may occur after a minute.
the disabling of services or location is a temporary solution right now.
I tried to clean up all google apps in system and install the latest gapps and odex them.....until now i havent seen any battery issues(in fact usage is not even visible).....i'll report the findings after a fair usage so i can be sure if it does fix the issue.

I uninstalled Google Search from system and installed from the Playstore, then disabled location reporting and my battery seems to go to normal draining

How to I uninstall it from system.
I have root of course. I tried root uninstaller from the play store but it just replaced it with the factory version.

you don't have to uninstall or install anything
just go to sittings\ security and disable Google reporting
that's all

a little update is coming
On PTCRB there is a new Version certified .233
Maybe this will fix the battery draining.

I was having this draining problem (happened out of nowhere, a full week after installing the 4.4.2 update).
Uninstalling Google Search and reinstalling it through the Play Store didn't worked (kept having Google Services draining more than 80%).
Setting Location mode to GPS-only didn't worked neither. Turning location off worked, but disabled my location-based apps, has expected.
What did worked for me was going to Setting -> Location-> Location Services (Google Location Report) and disabling both Location Report and Location History.
Now Google Services DOES NOT DRAIN more than 2% of my battery. CPU usage is always low (using CPU Spy Reborn, the 1512 MHz frequency step is pretty much around 2 - 3% of the time, as is the 1026 MHz frequency step - the remaining frequency steps are all at 0 - 1%, with 384 MHz (the lowest step) at 52% and Deep Sleep at 34% of the time).
All this with Location active on high-precision mode. Roughly 5h10min of usage (LTE always on), with PowerAmp playing for more than 4h straight, around 55min screen on and 15min or so of gaming (Zombie Gunship), and the battery is still at 72%.
With 4.3, with the same level of usage (moderate to heavy, I guess) the battery would absolutely be on the 60-65% range.
In other words, disabling both Location Report and Location History worked for me, with zero downsides with regards to location based apps (Google Maps, Waze and GPS Essentials all work perfectly).

Google Play Services Drain

Hello everyone!
I have a situation here ... I have quite massive battery drain from Google Play Services on my HTC One M9. I check with my gf Samsung Galaxy S6 and her G play services were about 1%. My were almost 50%... The only difference is I use LG G Watch R paired to my phone but I tried disconnecting it and still same... I use Google Fit and also tried disabling it but not much of a difference. There was about 10% less of drain when I put my location on battery save. But it is still over the ruff with that drain. My device is not rooted so I can't check battery wakes ... I kinda don't know what to do any more. Has any one had problem like this and how did you solve it?
I am thankful for any responses or ideas. (Sorry for bad English)

Did you ever learn anything about this? My friend has the same problem on his M9.

While screen off mine used 63%

started happening for me too today, together with "system (adsprpcd)" (and no, I don't have google app installed, nor nuplayer enabled), rebooting didn't help.

I tried to turn off the data connection while screen off, and oddly the problem solved !
Also noticed that system use network as shown in picture in Wi-Fi packets received section.
the Gsam battery monitor shows that System use "Video On" for 16 hours in my last charging circle, honestly I don't know what's that mean.
I wonder if I stopped data connection for system process will solve the issue permenantly and we don't have to turn off the Wi-Fi, and why system and google play service use the network while screen off ?
I will try it and let you know

Best thing to do is set location to battery saving, turn off as much sync as you can, and wipe data on play services. I think this is an issue with Android. 5.1 should fix it.

Insane battery drain from Google play services

For some reason Google play services is keeping my phone awake all day. This started happening after the 5.1.1 update. I even did a factory reset when I updated. All the fixes I found online require root.. Anyone have a solution?

a good ap to save battery power is called battery doctory.

Google Play Services (which I will abbreviate as GPS) began sucking a lot more battery than usual on my phone as of a week ago. GPS updates automatically and silently install without your knowledge every few weeks. Occassionally, they introduce a bug and everyone's phone begins freaking out, seemingly like magic. I think the latest version may have some sort of bug, but it's hard to tell for sure.
First, what version of GPS was installed on your phone? Go to settings-applications-all-Google Play Services and look at the version number under the app name.
The latest version is 8.3.00.
One way to see if the app version is bugged is to uninstall the updates and see if the battery life improves. With updates uninstalled, your Google apps will basically be useless though. This technique isn't fool proof though, because at any time, GPS may update itself again. This also means that you can't downgrade, because the app will update without your knowledge.
Try uninstalling updates to see if your battery improves. If it does, try using it like normal until GPS updates itself. At that point, battery drain should kick up again.

Huge Google play services battery drain. Please help.

Since about 4 months, I have been facing very bad battery drain due to Google play services. It emerged out of nowhere. And is now refusing to go back.
It consumes upto 1/3 of battery, always tops the SHOW FULL DEVICE USAGE section in battery stats, and often eats upto 3x the screen.
I face it on every custom ROM and sometimes on oos as well. It can't be a custom ROM issue, as no one else is facing them. I am sure of it.
I have 4G data on 24 hrs. Most of the apps installed are those which are famous or have good reviews on play store. Battery stats show no app behaving usually. I do not use location. I haven't disabled any apps. Wifi scanning is off as well.
I have tried greenify, naptime, gms doze magisk module, disabling several of the permissions of play services. Have also tried blocking one or 2 wakelocks and alarms. I have tried turning off find my device, Google account syncs, play protect, disability play services, uninstalling and reinstalling its latest version, clearing caches and other common suggestions spread over google. Someone suggested me using latest codeworkx twrp. I have tried that also..
You can see the apps I have installed in the attached ss.
Please help. I am really tired now. Don't know what to do.

Google is running in background and its Max battery drain app.. in the screenshot, i selected put app sleep when not in use, but still its active for 13+ hours in background.. how to fix it..

For me google play services keep running in the background.
Could you please share a pic of your entire battery drainage from the apps?

I disabled it (google app, not play services) since day one, along with other annoying pests via ccswe and package disabler pro, both complement each other perfectly, of course there is the ADB commands method, but I preffer the apps I mentioned, as they provide very useful widgets to enable/disable problematic apps as google, playstore, updates, chrome, etc, you can even disable services within the apps, to avoid background data access or runnig on boot

Look at my Google usage, screenshot
9 hrs background and only 0.1 % usage..!
So even if your Google is enabled in background
it should only take a minimum % eg 1 % ..?
So i would say that some settings in your
Google..?
that is enabled, eg syncing..... etc
I don't know all the tasks connected to Google.
I would rather cross check with battery
apps eg Betterbatterystats, Gsam battery monitor,
Wakelock detector lite etc
to pinpoint reason, than try and restrict Google.
Bottom line,
If you don't know what to do and you are desperate,
i would then factory reset device.
Should solve the problem..... hopefully.!

Same happened to me. What I did was to delete Data from Play services app, then I deleted cache from phone an voila. I have all sync and functional.
Ps. I charge my phone to 90% and I can get 5-6 SOT at 30% left everyday.

The issue op mentioned is not about google play services, it is about the google app instead I think

The problem is I don't think any batter stat apps can get low enough level stats to indicate what is using the Google app in the background to determine what is causing the drain. Usually, the culprit is an app frequently using location service (your GPS) to check your location which I believe the Android location service coordinates for apps other than the native Android/Google apps are obtained through the Google app in the background. That latter point is purely a guess because as we all know the Google app is a "multipurpose" app and you can't see detailed enough battery usage to determine what function of the app is being used that causes battery drain.
On my S10 5G, for the first 2 weeks I've used it, Google never was in the top 5, taking like 1-2% over the course of a day. Then seemingly all the sudden, it was #1, consuming like close to 1% an hour in the background. So I think, what did I change recently? I enabled Google Discover, but set the option to mae it update less fequently (6 hours) to reduce battery (the option actually says this will reduce battery usage). It didn't make a difference. So I disabled Google Discover and installed Google News instead. My Google app battery usage is lower now. About 0.9% per hour (all background usage of course). I think for most people that's good, but not when you were used to it being more like 0.1-0.2% an hour before.
I think the bottom line is if you want to use more features on your phone you have to live with a bump in battery usage. The 4500 mAh battery on my S10 5G lasts me abotu 1.5 days. LOL. But I don't play games or check Facebook/Instragram all day. Just a few texts, weather alerts, maybe an hour or two of browsing. Mabe an hour total of talk time. So relative to other people I should be less concerned if my phone is lasting well over a day on a charge, actually close to 2 days many times. I know a lot of other more "frequent users" (probably a lot of people younger than myself) that are on social media a lot and or listening to music/watching videos would kill to have their phones last 20-48 hours without having to charge.
Still, I keep an eye on things and it bugs me Google has jumped up. A great app to use is Accubattery and monitor the "SCREEN OFF" discharge rate. You're not actively using apps when the sceen is off so this gives you a good idea of your total background battery usage. You can make changes to settings, charge your for for a while, and let several hours pass, then check the screen off discharge rate and compare it to other discharge periods before you made the settings to determine if the changes you made had much of an effect.
Of course background usage isn't going to be 100% consistent, so the longer you measure the better, as if you look at it over like a 1 hour period, it could be certain apps were just more or less active during that particular hour. But if you compare like half day or more (6+ hour) periods to previous periods, you can get a good gauge if apps setting changes or newly installed apps are eating more battery in the background.

I disable Google feedfack, all their data collecting junk and their data backup too. Google is a pig.
Some blocked Google apks like Playstore are enabled as needed.
Even when Framework and Google Transport are blocked it's sometimes periodically necessary to clear their data to get them from using excessive cpu cycles.
Battery Tracker reports Google Framework running when AOD is on but it's likely misreading as long as battery draw remains at around 1%@hour while phone is screen off.
I'm running on Pie... who knows what Q will do.
Most likely make a bigger mess.
