pissed once again - non-htc devices all over the place

just wanted to remind our appreciated mods and admins that once again the general thread become $hit...why....because it's full of non-htc devices
i consider and respect that you are people with other business and own lifes but it seems like no one cares about it
i may think about one more "grand non-htc thread report" like i did in august...but i need mod's support...to once again take the thread to the mod forum and clean the junk

This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.

i have notning against omnia and such but according to forum rules and statute those are off topics like car engines or nuclear fusion or whatever
and what are you complaining anyway you have big omnia thread in off topics and that's ok...BECAUSE IT IS IN OFF-TOPIC

Couple of Questions
This is very good news but I have some questions:
- How are the XDA servers bearing up under the weight of all these members? Getting error 502-bad gateway is a routine occurrence when I log on at night in Europe (daytime in the US) and find all our American cousins logged on, hogging our servers. How dare they (lol)
- Given that this site is probably singularly responsible for a whole load of people sticking with the HTC brand, has anyone from XDA actually approached HTC for financial support and/or technical collaboration? We seem to be solving all their problems for them and keeping them in business without so much as a Corporate thank you in sight
- Moderation, with this number of members, must be an absolute nightmare. How does one nominate oneself to carry on this good work (hint hint)?

1 & 2: the 502 errors are software errors, the only system level workaround is to build an entire resilient failover system, and this will be more that just new hardware .
We (well the admins) are still working on the software issues that are causing the problems.
As for moderators, we are 60 strong, but not all active at once, some of the others have real lives to live.

Cause it's utter nonsense would be my primary reason, but I got a bag of good reasons too

You Rock XDA for Saying No to Bigotry!

Thank you XDA's moderators for keeping this group focused on the phones and development rather than a place for bigots to throw insults around and use hateful, prejudiced language.
I was searching on the web for a new ROM for my Galaxy Note when I came across one here on the XDA site that looked interesting. After getting into its thread, I noticed it was closed. So, being the curious person that I am, I copied the dev's name and did a search on it. Sure enough, the dev was still using that name on aR new forum. On this new forum, someone asked him why he was banned from XDA. He responded that he had been suspended once before for calling someone a "fag" and then set up a new account to get around it, was caught, then banned for a year. Recently, he was in a "fight" with a moderator one night and the next morning discovered he was banned for life and all of his threads were shut down and his links/files were removed. He feels he was treated poorly and this was too harsh because all of his "hard work" was now for nothing. He was looking for others to commiserate with him, and of course, there were those that did and welcomed him to the new forum.
Well, I say good riddance. I will not be going to that other forum while he is there. I have no interest supporting bigots. He obviously saw nothing wrong with calling someone a "fag" since he so proudly mentioned it in his response, trivializing it as though it was nothing. I can only imagine what hateful language he was using with that moderator recently.
So again, thank you to XDA's moderators for keeping this a place for everyone to feel comfortable and not supporting bigotry, YOU ROCK!

Im the owner from Gearfaces.com and if you want to use somebody's work please contact me or its designer or at least give proper credits. They put in a lot of hours of work in some of the facea. At least you can ask permission or give proper credits...

I did not have any problems with your post. Its only thatbwhen somebody uses some parts please ask for permission or credits. They steal alot from the site which isnt nice...

Yeah, just in general. There is already a guy who stole the hands from a face on my website. And ia selling it in the playstore. Which I think is unacceptable without asking or giving proper credits.

How are they coping with it? As someone who lost two relatives, just two years apart, I imagine it must be hard for them. (I'm just 17, so it was a huge blow for me)

It will be seen here, this is why we put the thread here, for the public to see and his family. Thank you for your words.

Tom was one of the best moderators we had. Always very approachable and went out of his way to help both fellow moderators and users. He will be greatly missed.

I'll share one of my first encounters with Tom personally .
I was a RC. Already had my Mod application moving forward. Then as I recall, I may have overstepped my bounds posting where I shouldn't have silly He gave me a scolding that day. Lol
Then I became a Mod. And there's TonyStark. Crap I thought, he hates me. Lol. But far from it, I found he was inviting, encouraging and helped learn me the ropes, along with others.
He was a class act and devoted himself to this site. His presence will be missed here, and everywhere.
You are missed Tom, but never to be forgotten. :highfive:
