Hey everyone, anyone here on the ProtonAOSP ROM? Was thinking of trying it out but wanted to get some feedback from actual users. I'm currently stock rooted and am really missing all the ROMs I had at my disposal on the 4 XL! I'm hoping that devs start it all up soon! My go to was DirtyUnicorns, but they shut down dev last year
I was using on P2XL for a while. Its nothing special (nor are most), basically gave me the freedom to not keep building AOSP for myself, so a convenient way to avoid goog crapware.
You should look at grapheneos.

It comes down to security. Instead of asking here, you really should go to their website and read about what they've done.

Have already read that, but it's not an answer to the question regarding the best daily driver
For me on Pixel, none of the AOSP ROMs are worthy. You will eventually end up with issues.

There are a lot of ROMs for the 6 series. They're just not posted on xda anymore. I think there's 6 or 7 now. Proton, Derp, Statix, cRdroid, Calyx, Graphene etc
I have tried a few. They're ok. 🫤
You can get them here if you were wondering.
pretty easy install, just use the fastboot -w command , fastboot update <pathtorom.zip> for most.
i would still prefer stock.

Hi guys , I have talked with a owner of Nexus 6P | Nexus 5x | Pixel | LG V20 and Developer of roms for this phones , and he makes the WETA Rom for this devices.
The first talk I had with him I asked him if we could get him a Mi5s if he could do a Nexus/Pixel experience for our Mi5s and seeing that he has a Pixel and some Nexus I think he would be perfect to Build a nice Pixel Rom for our devices.
But to do this we would have to make a Funding so we could get him a Mi5s.
What do you think about this?

It would be cool. And it can be arranged.
But look, the developer buys the phone, makes the firmware on it, what differences will it have from AOSP? A camera from a pixel?
I think the main thing that people are interested in is the creation of a mod that replaces the standard image processing libraries with similar ones from a Google pixel.
WETA rom will also be interesting, is it the focus on the audio capabilities of the phone?

I think we could ask him if he could port the Pixel Camera and it's capabilities to the Rom seeing that the Pixel has the same Sensor.
But yeah basically the WETA Rom as I understood it is focused on the Audio Capabilities and in Stability.
But the only thing is that we would have to join forces so we could all just donate 1€ or something like that and get him a Mi5s.

I don't personally know him , I just reached out to him when I bought my Mi5s so I could get an ideia if any Dev with a Pixel would be interested in developing Roms to the Xiaomi Mi5s
And he answered me with a positive note back at that time , now I have reached out to him again to see if he is still interested in making a Rom to our Mi5s in case we could get him one and as soon as he answers me I will ask him about the camera. Because as all of us , I too want a Pixel perfect Rom for our Xiaomi Mi5s , it would be the Cherry on top of the cake.
I would also make a bit of donations for his phone
i used weta on my previous gs6 and i must say, stable and good rom. Dev was quick in answering in that days..
I have faith in him
Hi there , guys I'm sorry to have taken so much time to answer you, but this is because the Weta Dev stop answering me I don't know why.
I have talked with another Dev's from the Pixel Section and 3 Devs have answered me with a positive atitude saying that they wouldn't mind to try to Make a Pixel rom for our Mi5s.
Are you guys still interested in trying to get Money to buy them a Mi5s and seeing with they can do it?

Second I think would be to make a new Thread to see how many people can donate and see if we could get the money to buy the device.

Go compile one then, it's not that hard to do. You can't just expect developers to feel obligated to everyone here on XDA. Devs usually compile and work on things when they have time away from their daily duties.
In fact, there's actually multiple ROMs, but they're not posted here on xda yet.

Same thoughts here. Stock and a custom kernel is all I need.
LOL. What a completely entitled thread. I'm surprised no one has called out the OP.
It's people like you that push away our development. Put a bad taste in a talented persons mouth who wanted to make a rom but not for those who feel entitled to one. What does your post accomplish? It's not going to encourage more development that's for sure.
As others have said there's more ROMs out there, but I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they haven't posted it here is because the community here on XDA can be toxic when people group together to complain about the lack of ROMs or how what is available isn't good enough. Be happy that we do have a rom here, or go out and build the rom yourself.
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
honestly i think we just need a good few magisk modules and the *need* for modified stock roms goes away, we'll still have AOSP roms being developed for. just have some patience
Probably not the best approach to getting more ROMs is calling out the forums for lack of them for a device that is still "new". Take a breath and be patient, sir. These things take time.

I'll actually agree with this. This Pixel 3 XL I own is the first time I've run Android stock in a long time and actually like it. My device is on the Pie December update and only rooted with Magisk, a few modules like Active Edge or ViPER4Androi0d installed, and ElementalX kernel and performance and battery life is quite good. Unless some serious custom ROMs like ResurrectionRemix (which I loved on my Nexus 6P) make it over, I probably won't even bother with a custom ROM.
This a hobby development forum! People provide work here as a hobby! NOT as a job!
XDA was created by developers to share knowledge...knowledge that members could use to create their own work!
Before you ask the question "why are there so few ROMs?" perhaps ask the question why you haven't learned how to create your own and contribute to this site.
Last I checked Google is not giving these devices away...they cost $900!!! Have you thought that maybe most developers chose a different device?
This thread has run its course.

Hey,
since I am getting my 7t soon and always valued the oneplus phones as developer friendly I am wondering if the lack of devs and roms/kernels for this particular phone will sort itself out over time? Is there any issue preventing things like proper twrp and stuff from happening?
Can you recommend a kernel (from the few out there) and is there any other place to look for them?
ElementalX has it covered, right?
Thanks!

One of the major Problems is twrp still needs time for Android 10.
It's a problem for every device.
You also have the option of arter97's kernel that he just brought to the 7t
[r40] arter97 kernel for OnePlus 7 series
There may not be a huge quantity of devs for the phone yet but in this case, you have a few very good developers already.
Oh and on a side note, Arter97 is helping to bring Paranoid Android back to the scene so good things are coming.

Most of those links are semi-private by invite-only.
Developers got tired of requests and demands from rookie users on XDA, and rightly or wrongly felt under-appreciated at complaints about their free for-fun work...and then took their for-funsies development to more private areas. There also has been much squabbling and drama about "originality" and "kanging" in conjunction with moderation here over the decade+ Android has been a thing; which annoyed developers more. XDA really was a victim of XDA's and Androids own success over crappy OEMs undermaintaining their own firmware. Thus the seeming deadness and lack of development across most devices, now.
I know links and very active and very-elite groups on TG--but am not sharing them, because then I'll lose my own access to those channels. Not trying to show-off or be a jerk here, just explaining how and why.

Are there any custom roms for the pixel 6 pro? I don't see any on XDA and I have a hard time finding them with just a Google search. I appreciate you answering me.
there are a few (2) listed in the development section in this forum. but most aren't listed on XDA anymore. You will want to join a TG group that lists all the ROMs that are currently available (approx 8 right now). The name of the group is Pixel6Chat

Too many n00bs cluttering developers threads with posts that don't contribute to development. It gets annoying fast when people keep re-asking the same question that has already been answered multiple times in the thread or is answered in the original post, or complain about bugs without providing a logcat or at least details on how to reproduce the issue.
I remember when XDA used to be about Android development, but as it gained popularity over the years it started to become more of a general Android/smartphone/tech help and support forum.
I see. I can hardly blame the developers. Perhaps a more tightly moderated board would be more encouraging.
Definitely sad state of affairs!
I figured it may have been for another reason, say why we lose things like vanced.

True that.
Sadly, especially the new generation prefer TG groups instead of forum. But if the reason is that people keep asking the same questions, it might happen more on any social media or group, as the forum should be better for searching function and tags by arguments. One limitation perhaps is that the new XDA forum is not compatible with Tapatalk, and, for mobility reasons and use on smartphone would be a nice method to access.
As the original Google firmware delivered with the stock rom has some special features (we know mainly some code related to Tensor computing, for photography on gcam, as well on dictation etc.) I wonder if we may see any review here, about the main difference, which features are common, because part of AOSP rom code, and what we may miss. Does the custom roms in Pixel apply ie the June updates?
In my previous devices I always used custom roms, but I never owned a Pixel and of course would be interesting to know about the difference.

You can download some roms like lineage for p6p here. Just use fastboot -w
Then fastboot update "rom.zip"
