Why did you unlock your bootloader? I did unlock bootloader and install custom ROM for every Android device that I have ever owned. However, surprisingly I am fairly satisfied with newest MIUI on Poco F3 and I am considering to keep it. Currently, the only thing I am missing is a firewall. I am also worried that custom ROMs often have bugs + there might be problems with banking apps {Mod edit}.
I'm in the same boat actually. Been using it stock for a couple of weeks, and not sure am I up to jumping through hoops when there's nothing actually wrong just yet.
Currently not really worth it
If you want an AOSP rom, yeah sure, unlock it
other than that, it is not really worth it to unlock
In my case, I unlocked to install xiaomi.eu just for MIUI launcher with gestures, huge difference compared to poco launcher.
all custom roms that i've tested pass safetynet, which means banking apps would work fine.. i use aosp bcs i feel like miui for poco is unpolished compared to the actual miui and aosp.. xiaomi.eu is a good choice for those who still want miui features, but hate the bugs and 'unpolishness' of miui for poco
Personally I unlock to root my phone, for adblock and limiting my battery charge.
Adblocking first of all. Also couldn't stand MIUI, especially after coming from a Pixel. I broke that, so got this phone only to save money on hardware. I also like to tinker with things, so even when it can be problematic getting banking apps to work with things like xposed installed these days, it feels like an accomplishment when it finally works.
Where I live, we can use an app as an official driving licence. And it really doesn't like root, but since it's made in cooperation with the police, it felt like beating the police when I finally made it work
But yes, stock ROMs today have many of those features, we had to install custom ROMs for before. It is of cause a good thing for the normal consumer, but also kinda sad to see the communities behind things like xposed is only kept alive by a few dedicated persons
When I got this phone, I thought I won't unlock it and just use pure stock. After a few weeks, I feel like I don't even own the phone without adblock and magisk modules.

I second this. I unlock just to root my phone. Initially, I want a custom rom but I went back to stock MIUI still.
By the way, what app or module are you using for your battery?

Good ol ACC with the AccA app
Too much bloat on the stock ROM running arrow 12.1 I will never go back to stock so much more snappier stock feels slow after you run arrow
I was able to remove about every bloatware with https://github.com/0x192/universal-android-debloater and it's pretty good now, I miss AdAway and yeah one day I'll unlock/root just for this... But even with stock ROM (currently MIUI Global 13.0.2) + debloat, it's still a pretty good experience.
Seeing that most of people reason to unlock devices is to get rid of those ads - I thought about doing the same. Until now all my devices were unlocked and rooted for the sake of adfree experience - and now I found a better solution. Just use some Private DNS provider. In my case I'm using https://adguard-dns.io/en/welcome.html
You just need to join the BETA (service is free of charge as of now) and you can set up private DNS both in your device or internet router - from now on all the analytics/ads bloat is filtered and you won't see any ads. Running it since April - no issues so far.

So , i was thinking changing from sense to miui.... but havent made my mind yet
could someone who has a little experience on miui roms convince me to switch?
All i ask for is some arguments on miui>sense
please sense/aosp lovers and miui haters dont post here
thanks in advance!
well it seems you already want to switch and dont need much convincing...
seeing as how you will only get biased responses when you ask for only people who love miui to reply. you will only get replies telling you to switch.
only way you can tell is to try it.
but, since you asked for it:
"OMGZ TRY MIUI IZ THE BEST!!!1!11"
The one reason I don't use MIUI at the monent:

Notice the wrong coloured text for the title/Google T&Cs (white on white)? It stops me using it, as silly as that sounds
As ringer13 said, if you're asking MIUI lovers you will just going to hear the good sides of MIUI. I think it's your decision, some like it some not... You have to try it by yourself. Make a nandroid backup if you don't like it so it isn't a lot of work...
Anyway I've wrote a list of advantages and disadvantages. But it's just my opinion.
Advantages:
Layout (Can also be an disadvantage depends if you're liking the iOS like layout)
Theme Manager (very easy to customize the layout with lot of possibilities)
Fast
Nice Backup Features
File Manager
Music Player (with automatic lyrics)
Notification bar (Quick Settings)
Weekly updates
Disadvantages:
Official release just in Chinese, you have to wait some day until the rom is translated...
Translation errors
FM-Radio isn't working
No 720p recording
As EddyOS said the color errors
I think it's more buggy then Sense
I hope it helped you.
For me I wanted something battery efficient and aosp does that for me. Sense is just a battery killer really. I also really like the apps that come with and how many settings come with the rom. There are minor issues like Eddy said but I couldn't care because they get out weighed. Tbh if you want to see what a rom is like you should be trying it, not asking people if you should use it or not. It's taken me months and months of flashing and now I'm finally settled on miui androids rom.
Swyped...

MIUI convert here. I highly recommend MIUI Au for the best MIUI english experience. The guys do amazing work with the rom and are providing weekly updates and patch fixes to problems as they are found.
In last release *everything* was working, except wifi but that is fixed by flashing an alternative kernel available from the site. Just do a nandroid backup and flash away, if you dont like it, roll back!
To echo what's been said already - backup, flash and try it out.
I flashed the latest version last weekend and kept it for a couple of days. It was a bit of a shock going from an AOSP ROM, almost like learning to use a new OS again.
Not having an app drawer befuddled me - I was poking at the screen waiting for a full apps list to appear
As a ROM it is very polished, looks terrific and has plenty of customisation options. I liked the folder options for home screen. Battery was pretty good too. I can understand why it has so many passionate converts.
I ended up going back to Oxygen though for one reason only - laggy menus. They were driving me nuts, especially as I was setting everything up from new.
I'll keep an eye on the translated versions on the XDA dev page and may try it again though.
I tried it for a very brief time
Way to iPhone for my liking ! .....

My thoughts exactly! I love eye candy and MIUI has such a nice design and concept (my opinion), but it was too laggy for me.
miui is really excellent and a good battery saver rom. in standby it stays more then 2 days for me. with sense i always had to charge it after 1 day.
I use MIUI-XJ X-part.. and i feel it is the best Rom... it isnt laggy a bit.. may be your installation is not perfect.. for me its damn fast... superb battery life..and so much of free space.. and ram.. for those who dont like.. IOS type interface.. you can always use launcher pro.. or go launche ex.. .i have used it too.. and I did not found any laggyness...
Some missing things are FM Radio.. and 720p recording.. which I am not a fan of.
And we might get 720p recording soon.. I miss FM sometime though..
I dont hate any ROM.. always apprecaite work behind it.. but I love MIUI

Nope! A no go with custom ROMs.
ATT Note 8.0 has locked boot loader and will brick if you install an unsigned ROM.
This is very disappointing... So I'm stuck?

IMO the samsung ROM is good. Just a wee behind. One thing you have on your side is rooting.
Once rooted, you can use framework mods to enhance the features.
I tested Civato's ROM and Kernel. Found it good but lacks supporting 64GB SD cards with Exfat.
Had way too many issues with Fat32 to call it worth while. Speed was good, but I realized after letting myself get use to the OEM ROM, there was not much difference.
If anything I recommend getting Solid Explorer Pro and Titanium Backup Pro..., they are worth their price on Google.
I removed all the apps that I can get on Google Play most of them are Google apps, but there is a few that you can obtain.
Once I removed all the Google apps... kept play store, I installed what I wanted. Don't bother with Google Music Player, it will run even when you reboot.
I kept Samsung Keyboard, and found it better than SwiftKey and Swipe Keyboard. As it has quite a bit of features you would not expect in a stock keyboard.
Setup my voice and language to be Ivona UK Welsh English, it is the best sounding of the English language. Google is setup to be the voice recognition.
My Samsung voice will be Ivona, and any Google voice in Google Now will be Google.
I setup a number of things with the framework mods, so it will take some time booting to completely load HD Widgets, if you choose to go that route.
Once ATT releases 4.4.3 in April, I may hold off until Xposed Framework gets a major overhall for 4.4.x.
I recommend the non framework version of Ghost Hide Root, with plugin. There is a framework version, but it does not work well with Samsung ROM.
Startup manager also is a good framework app, but there is a paid app that goes even further... I kept the Xposed app because it was smaller.
Don't bother with Power / battery apps... they tend to hog memory, and don't do much better than having your tablet do power saving mode when browsing or reading.
I keep WIFI and Power save mode on all the time. Yet to find a real issue with speed. Able to watch streamed movies and Miracast without hicups.
Oh by the way... I dropped Greenify as well.. seems to take up a lot of memory. I just stop some apps that allow not to be started during boot. Be careful, as some are part of the OS. I stopped All email apps, this way when I am wanting email I just open them. Also you can manually sync if you chose to. Though it can be annoying if you open mail for the first part of the day and find 40 emails waiting. On vibrate or notification sound it can be a bit annoying.
hi everyone, first of all i have to mention that im a total newbie, ive only flashed a stock rom once and i was a copy cat nothing more.
I recently upgraded my note 8 to 4.2.2 which I dint recommend, Battery life has beem reduced to like 30%. so now im trying to downgrade it back to 4.1.2 which was much better imo.
I dont know which rom version to flash, there are many with different codes and country, here is a screenshot for the "about" section, please provide me with the best stock rom fo3 my tablet.

thanks in advance guys, and if u know how to fix the battery drain problem let me know, also some tips to prevent bricking my tablet while flashing would be great.
I have 4.2.2 and found most of my issues from Google Music app, and having over 45 GB of MP3 files. They show up as 115mb in the folder in system. HA!!! My MP3 files had some underline characters in the names. This is mostly from Itunes but MS media player will do it if configured in the file management for rip settings.
Once I cleared up the issues, I get the same battery drain as with a custom ROM which I reverted back from.
You should look for my battery drain / charge fix on this forum. It has all the fixes I could find when troubleshooting my issues with battery drain.
I get about 10% drain every hour with normal use.
When 4.4.2 comes out for Samsung Note 8.0 I am sure it will be even better.
Since using 4.2.2 I would not dream of going to 4.1.2. Haven't had it and find 4.2.2 has some features that 4.1.2 does not have. Just google screwed the pooch with Music player on their last two updates.
after flashing new rom make sure to do battery calibration - get app from play store - it will get you back to a more normal battery life.

Search for saferoot.zip.
You do not need a battery calibration app to fix your issue.
It looks like DVMS is your issue. Once rooted with saferoot, you will not need triangle away to clear your counter, just install four apps to allow hiding of root and disable DVMS.
First thing find Xposed installer 2.5 and install. On google play store search for Substrate and install and search RootCloak and install do not install the xposed version just the app. Search DVMS in google play store and install. RootCloak is simple to config and runs at start up. Xposed is a wee different, as you will have settings for xposed and various options to perform tasks, one of which is modules. From there you can activate the modules you install for xposed. Once activated you must reboot again. Yes there will be a few reboots before all 4 apps are running on your android. DVMS is an activate and forget app, about half of the xposed apps are that way. Though only a few apps will work with the Note 8.0 without any issues. With a keen eye, you will find that many of the smaller modules can be found in larger ones, Wanam module for example.
I have an extensive setup with Xposed for many of my mods. So if you have any issues or questions, I can be of assistance.
Yes, I find disabling DVMS to be the better thing to do for accurate battery measurement. Wanam makes both DVMS disabler and Wanam Xposed, the later has DVMS disabler as one of the many options in this larger module. You may opt for that instead, I prefer newbies to stick with simple tasks before diving into the whole enchilada.

Is video calling feature??
just happened to check while sitting in a meeting.. started the update and came here for news... currently sitting at 55% so we'll see how it goes.
I think this is the longest I have ever left a phone stock and unrooted..
Hmm. Don't know if it's worth to unroot for this..
Xtrestolite 2.3 has live streaming and app/people edge... As for the icons I use Nova with an icon pack...
Xtrestolite has a video calling too but don't know if it will work.. Never worked for me before...
Only reason I'm not using xtrestolite is don't have VoLTE and WiFi calling... ? ? ?
Very nice update low ram usage and best performance than cof8
Live broadcast is available via the camera app...

With all the problems and loss of features and functionality relating to root, stock appears to be the right choice for me at present, never owned a device for this long (4+ months) without root but with the smooth functionality and super battery life I'm getting, root is something from the past that's not going to hold back or disable my phone.

Agreed to a degree. Being able to install tibu and clean up is essential. Not to mention unikernel is amazing. Then now with the ability to add xposed, there's many benefits.

Sorry If there's already some talks about that on different topics, but I find easier to talk about this latest release on a centralised one.
My findings are that Oplus updated the gamebar which now takes more onscreen space, but is now easier to use
The second one is a real thermal behavior change : I used to flash Omega Kernel on 11.2.5.5 and quickly the o+ 9Pro stabilized under 42/43°C . On the latest OOs build with stock kernel, I'm now @ 37-38°C after 30 min of playing the same game. 5-6 degres gained is pretty a good upgrade.
I'll check what are the photo behavior changes as I've done few reproductible raw photos to test, and see how the white balance upgrades are this week end

I deeply can't say that comparing two different iteration of kernel. But it appears to me O+ finally made some progress concerning power and heat behaviour.
I will for sure flash omega kernel as I did with every releases, but I'm happy to see that vanilla stock kernel is working better than ever

I'm running Omega, but I was running omega before so although I'm sure Omega helps battery, it was still not great before the update. The new changes he made to reduce watermarking may have been a factor, and I also disabled RAM optimization in Oneplus settings which I'm pretty sure helped.

The notification thing is most likely due to Oneplus's "Intelligent control" for battery saving. It may be "optimizing power usage" too aggressively for your apps. Go to the power settings for each app with the issue individually and change it to "do not optimize" to ensure you get notifications on time
