Hi,
I am on stock ROM with JB 4.1 and wanted to disable the Google search bar present in all the screens. I did a search and found that disabling it from "All Apps" removes it from the homescreen and so I tried that. What it does is removes the Google search bar, but the space occupied by it is still present with a rectangular patch and I cant place any widgets in that space. Can someone please tell me how to permanently remove the search bar.
P.S - My phone is not rooted!!!! Its new and I want to enjoy stock till I can...
Just root the phone and don't install a custom rom, thus you will still be stock except for the SU app. Then you can remove the search bar all together and gain that space back. This way you can enjoy the STOCK rom too. Although if you remove the search you technically aren't stock anymore.

Install nova or apex launcher, you can enable/disable the search bar or just have it only on one screen and not all.

How do you do this?
If so have you notices any hits in performance or battery life?
I have had my Translucent Substratum Oreo running since day one I got my Pixel 2 and no problems with battery or speed at all.

Thanks I could never deal with the white background
I hear ya brother thats the first thing I had to change. So much white ui and even the "theme" they have built in only does a small percentage of what a rootless Substratum theme can do.

I only got my 2XL yesterday, but this was one of the first things I setup. Running a mix of Swift Black / VaLeRie and have noticed no
performance or battery problems. It's freaking awesome. This is one out of two reasons I root my phone, nice not to have to
wait for root to use it.
I'm using it for navigation buttons to avoid the burn-in issue. I didn't see any performance or battery issue.
I tried the immersive mode, but it was a bit annoying.
Is there something I'm missing? I can't seem to get this to work. I've got both Substratum and Andromeda installed. I run the script on my Windows PC to fire-up Andromeda, then it launches the Substratum app, but it shows me an overlay saying "The Andromeda desktop client needs to connect to your device to be able to function with Substratum". There's a "Check Status" button on that screen, and when I press it I get the green box telling me my connection status is good. Can't ever get into the Substratum app without that overlay screen. I'm also seeing a notification that there is a "delay with the andromeda backend- please relaunch Substratum", but relaunching just starts the cycle allover again.

That's weird, my windows 10 pc worked flawlessly
It worked beautifully as stock but it's now broken after an upgrade to 8.1 unfortunately...
It worked great for me until I moved to the 8.1 DP which seems to have broken it. Theme Manager no longer exists in the "Display" section of the settings app and Subs/Andromeda says it "can't fall back to root mode" and something about "no other theme Manager installed"

I've discovering this as well. Wish I would've held off on moving to the beta. Is there a way to downgrade back to the stable 8.0 release?

Just go back to the bootloader and flash the latest 8.0 from the Google support page with Factory Images. Probably can remove the -w from flash-all so it doesn't wipe. No promises on wether that'll work to downgrade an API level without wiping. I'm not a dev so can't speak to that. But you'll definitely be able to downgrade. Also unenrolling your device might force 8.0 ota to be pushed to your phone.

Yep. Looks like you just need to unenroll and it'll push the stable as an OTA. Sounds like it'll wipe data though.

Most likely due to dropping an API level. Probably also means that removing -w in the flash script would end up in a red boot screen and unusable device. Worth a try though, you could be the data point we all want.

Haven't seen this anywhere, but after updating to Pie I don't have the option for gesture navigation (swipe up from home). Maybe it's cause I upgraded rather than a fresh wipe? Is there some other way to trigger it, maybe with console commands?

This is strange. It's listed in mine.
I have the same issue and have been looking to see if anyone else did.
The difference is I did the flash-all.bat (without the -w), had the option for it and used it for a while, rooted with magisk, then it disappeared.
I've been too busy and lazy to try to reflash everything and start over and have been waiting to see if there's a console command, haha. At least you're not alone!
That was how I upgraded too (the flash-all method) I wonder if that's it? So far that's the only issue and I prefer the old navigation bar anyway, but I hate having the choice taken away. That's why if there's a workaround (like a console command) I'd be fine. Everything else is perfect though.
swipe up on home button click on this and change it
i did remove the -w on fash-all.bat but its just fine i don't have any problem

FYI, I titanium backuped, did a clean flash, and restored everything and it did fix it. Not sure what the issue was, but if it comes to it, that will work.

I started to get a few other small issues (couldn't toggle srgb mode for example), so I dirty flashed the stock image again. No change. Backed up internal storage and cleaned flash and I'm all good now too.

Android 11 screwed up system gesture navigation in 3rd party launchers (again). I've just returned to 3 button nav bar + edge gestures app. Now I have the best out of both worlds. Quick and easy to use nav bar and also swipe gestures.

Thanks, I had tried setting the stock launcher to check if this was the case to no avail. Evidently I hadn't opened the home screen to let it load. Now have it working with no custom launcher and very slow animations... Hope MIUI can fix this soon.

I find stock animations very slow too (be it "clean" Android or MIUI) - enabling 0.5x speed for all animations in developer settings feels much snappier.
Btw. it's not a fault of MIUI, this time Google is to blame.

Yeah I've since found other complaints of broken gesture navigation with third party launchers on Samsung devices. I guess hopefully it's either patched in upstream Android by Google or Xiaomi patch it within MIUI.
Unfortunately, the MIUI stock launcher and Recents doesn't respect the 0.5% animation speed setting!
I've also found that you can no longer change individual app dark mode settings. The app list is just empty, still respects any that were setup prior to the update though.

I can't comment on stock launcher as I'm on Nova launcher, but recents screen seems to be snappy. I don't use it that often though, so maybe it's with 100% speed.
I can still change individual apps in dark mode - but only when the dark mode is active. It takes about 3 seconds for list of all apps to appear though, on the first sight the feature seems missing/broken.
The two main things I've noticed is the notification led is now bright enough to actually be useful.
And on poco launcher 2 if you keep pressing back to exit from an app or push the home button sometimes you get the apps icon appearing at the top left of the screen for a few seconds for some reason.
But if you switch to system launcher and back again this bug goes away until you restart the device.

Are you sure that you are flashing the same version of ROM as you have currently installed? You can use recovery update only from the very same region - Global or EU or China or Russia or another.

You might find the culprit with logcat - enable usb debugging, start "adb logcat" on the PC with the phone connected and run the update again. There should be an error message displayed with more details.

Hello, for some reason it is working now. It is currently updating. How can I later update from beta to stable, or is it already stable?
Root is needed and this is a Paid method, I did not create nor am I in anyway associated with the creator. I am simply making this so people like me can find it. Let's begin
You must be rooted and have Magick installed for this to work
You must have the button version of the navigation bar for this to work.
I would also recommend getting something such as FNG (Fluid Navigation Gestures) setup and ready.
To start head over to : https://www.patreon.com/zacharywander/posts you will have to subscribe but it doesn't charge you until the beginning of the coming month.
You are looking for an app called One UI Tuner. I currently have one ui tuner 23, your version may change over time.
The app will download as a .zip Do not extract it, all you need to do is rename it. Remove the .zip and your good to go.
From there install it and run it, grant it root permission and allow it to install the Magisk module.
Reboot
Once rebooted, open the app again and go to misc, enable the "Adjust Navigation bar height", and set it to zero, then click the green check mark.
Reboot
Once back in it should be working, your nav bar should now be gone. However you will need to reboot one more time, you will get a notification telling you when to reboot.
Enjoy!
the problem with 3rd party launchers is they refresh the screen.
we already have gestures in 3rd party we just need android 12
