[Q] Some clarification needed regarding DRM, TA and the like...

(Just realized I posted this originally in the wrong section... Forgive me for overlooking this section. If any moderator could be kind enough to delete the old thread here I'd appreciate it.)
Hi there. Long time visitor, first time poster here.
I bought the Z1 Compact about 4 months ago and I have had a great time with it. Unlocked the BL and flashed CM11 about a week after I got it.
Now I'm not clueless when it comes to phones but I know I probably screwed things up on the way. I have a question to you Z1C pros:
When I unlocked the BL, I didn't backup my DRM keys. (Stupid of me, agreed.) And now I'm paying the price with sub-par noise reduction and terrible night shots with the camera. While I don't consider myself a photographer I do like to take a good photo every now and then. What I want to ask is if there's some way to return to a firmware that has DRM keys/TA partition with it so I can restore decent camera functionality? And if so... is it possible to back those up and restore them after installing a custom ROM, or do they only work on Stock Sony firmwares?
Some other questions might come to my mind as the time goes; will post here if they do.
Best regards, and thanks for reading.
Well, haste was never good idea.
Of everything what I have read here on xda-developers - DRM keys are like virginity.
Once lost - there's no way to get them back.

Ask us anything : Official YU Response Thread

Hello Guys !
Nice to see the activity down here at XDA.
Let me quickly mention here that I, and @DooMLoRD have recently joined YU as Developer Relations and Community Managers.
(I don't know how many of you know either of us, but lot's of <3 to all those who have used either of ours works on custom ROMs and Kernels before on XDA)
We do have our own support forum at http://forums.yuplaygod.com, which you can feel free to visit and be a part of. We are running many contests from time to time on our forum as well .
I would ask any of the moderators, to please stick this thread if possible.
If you have any questions to us directly, please ask here. We will try to share as much with you, as soon as possible. (Of course some info cannot be shared, like if you ask us to tell about the next phone we are planning and don't bug us with update ETAs )
Regards, and a Happy New Year from the YU Team
Good to know you guys are working for YU.
I use Xperia Pro, so I have come across your work in several threads, I now expect lots of developments for this device(Hopefully my next).
I have a few questions
1. Will YU(no pun intended :laugh provide Wi-Fi Direct options in forthcoming updates?
2. Does this device come pre rooted/what about bootloader?
3. Any info about device availability? Will there be sufficient amount of devices for the upcoming flash sale?
I have a question, will YU be available outside India in the future? I'm from Europe, and i'm very interested in this device..
Queries
When will it get Lollipop ....
Give me a Detailed Specs including. sensor list
Will it support Quick charge 2.0
will it have double tap to wake
Does it ship with Recovery by itself
Can we use. Bootloader unlock oem straight away ..Or i have to request for code with Imei no.
Will it have other white soft touch back cover. sold in amazon

1. WiFi direct is already present on the software that will launch will the phone. And it will remain present over future updates
2. The device will not come pre rooted, but if users do root it, we will provide the same terms of warranty to them.
We/Cyngn will provide a debuggable kernel from our side.
fastboot oem unlock command can unlock bootloader, you do not need a key from our website. Exactly like it is done on Nexus models.
3. There will be multiple flash sales. The units going up on sale on each iteration will be limited, but the numbers will ramp up over time.

Right now, for the first couple of sales as much as I am aware, Amazon.in can ship only to Indian cities.
As far as the company YU is considered, we definitely have global ambitions, and we are looking at how we can reach out the people outside the subcontinent.
Whether global shipping will be available on future sales of the same model, or we will start going global with future models is something that is still under works.

Please refer to the http://yuplaygod.com website, and the Hardware section of http://forums.yuplaygod.com for technical details.
Many of your queries are already present on them, and if not, you'll definitely get answers if asked on the forums.
Double Tap2Wake is present. It ships with Cyanogen Recovery (NOT CWM). (ref: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_bootable_recovery-cm )
"Playing God", Really? YU need to produce a Real Kick Ass Device before you presume to Play God.
The YUreka is not that device. It's cheap and that's it. Nothing Original. Cyanogen did not do anything different other that new Icons all else is the same as Oneplus. Come on Men even the YU Logo was Taken From SONY's PlayStation's. YU remind me of the Amazon Fire Phone. They too talked a lot and then did not sell enough.
Come up with something original and really innovative and stop presuming to play god.

If it doesn't. Have Magnetometer sensor then how will GPS ""Navigation"" work ??
if it does work how will it point directions ...Street view ...
I want to use offline Compass App
I want to record Directions while Taking Photo sphere !!!!
Can any 1 confirm it using All specs checking Apps like Cpu Z Or is the Magnetometer Sensor Driver missing in CM 11
Cool Pad F2 SD version shows that it has E compass in a shipping Company 's. Website
As you says warranty not void if we rooted our phone so my question is can we get*regular official OTA after the root?

AFAIK, If you are on official cm11s build then you will get further OTA updates even after root..
but you will probably loose root.

The YU Yureka is missing most of the sensor support that is present on the Coolpad F2 including e-compass (just check youtube reviews showing sensor support for both phones). So it won't be showing any directions what so ever...
CONFUSED

I'm confused seriously
check the specs below

The Coolpad F2 has it, while the YU Yureka doesn't have it. So the hardware is not identical.

This phone seemed stellar in most way until Asus announced its Zenfone 2.
So just out of curiosity, can you please address these queries below:
1. As of Zenfone 2, due to 64-bit architecture 4GB RAM was possible on device and hence the advantage. Yu also has a 64-bit architecture SoC, but what is the advantage?
2. How does Snapdragon 615 perform against Intel Atom Z3580 (on the Zenfone 2)?
3. Yureka is the first model from YU, are there any other model in the works (probably another re-brand)?
4. The phone goes sale on 13th Jan, means as soon as order is kept it can ship immediately?
Confirmation email?
Forums.yuplaygod.com
I have waited 2 days and tried 2 different ids, none of them got any confirmation email.
I have developed for lg optimus l 3, micromax canvas music and micromax unite 2. I would like to join the forum to support the development for yureka.

Battery Comparison???
How is the battery life when compared with Moto G 2nd gen and also battery drain connected to sony smartwatch 2 whole of the time with data pack on and some litle fair usage??
So, wifi direct option is there in the rom.. I thought this phone didn't have wifi direct . Isn't it a hardware limitation ?

Unlockable bootloader?

I'm going to explain my situation from the start so no one gets confused. I bought an LG G4 h818p not knowing it wouldn't have an unlockable bootloader so I'm basically stuck with LG's horrible horrible UI. But I know a guy who's looking to exchange his HTC one m9 for my G4. His model number is 0PJA100. So I'm doing this just for a raincheck but does this model have an unlockable bootloader? If so, is development good for it? Custom Development is one of the things that matter most to me when buying a phone. So I don't know why I bought this LG.
Every variant except the Verizon one , can be unlocked with htcdevs website.

Regarding development: it depends on what you're looking for. We have many talented developers and development teams in both original Android development and Android development (ie, AOSP & stock based). HTC is neither the most or least developer-friendly, so results can be mixed.
Things that are currently hang-ups for non-stock ROMs include IR blaster, double-tap to wake, encryption, and some sound issues. You can get an idea of how that all is going by browsing the top threads in those forums.

Thank you for your answer. One more question, do you think it would be unwise to move to the m9 after having owned a g4? Camera isn't a big deal to me but I'd still like a decent camera. Is the m9's at least that? I just don't want to rush into another thing that I might regret later on.

I'm afraid I can't help you much in comparing the two: I've never had a LG G4 and don't know much about its camera. That said, I'm very satisfied with the HTC M9 camera. I use it occasionally and have no complaints.

Feasibility of porting a OnePlus 3T ROM?

For context, I am a software developer but my Android experience is limited to writing a few apps, so I'm hoping to learn a bit more before diving in and breaking things.
Initially, I'm wondering what would be the realistic chances of bricking a Mi 5s if I dropped a OnePlus 3T (or other SD 821 based) ROM straight on to it. I understand that, say, the camera and fingerprint reader wouldn't work out of the box, but with the same SoC I would expect the kernel to retain compatibility between the two devices. Or am I being naïve? Are there bootloader issues that I'm not even considering here?
For that matter, what failure modes are likely to prevent me from getting back to TWRP and just putting the stock ROM back if the experiment doesn't work?
Assuming I could get something bootable without my shiny new Mi 5s irrevocably bricking/imploding/catching fire/gaining sentience and instigating a robot uprising, I feel like there would be plenty to learn from tweaking parameters and generally getting towards something usable - but I'm aware that unlike a PC I don't have the worst-case fallback of pulling the hard drive and wiping it in another machine if things go too far wrong.

You would most likely be able to get back into recovery, but it will never boot this ROM, when Xiaomi release sources for this device we might be able to get CM working..
Interesting, thanks for the reply - do you know why it wouldn't work at all? Is it just drivers, or more complex than that?

Well, yeah... I don't see what's wrong with asking questions to learn about something I'm not familiar with.
Everythings different, its a different device, different blobs, kernel, partitions and so on. It will never work. And no one will be able to port until kernel sources are released.

And this is what I'm trying to understand: it has the same architecture, same ARMv8-A instruction set, even an identical SoC. In my experience, it's only necessary to recompile a binary from source when changing to a different instruction set; sure, drivers on the components that differ will likely be a problem, but the core components are the same. If it won't work at all, I was hoping to learn why.

Different OEM's, different implementations, although it may be easier to port it once we have the blobs and device tree. That's one of the first things we need to build a ROM from scratch.
Is there any ETA for when the sources will be released?

Get ur snobbery out if here seriously this guy is just trying to learn and good on him for making the effort. It's not like u were born preinstalled with all of your knowledge so don't put people down just to boost ur own ego it isn't pleasant and it has no place on this website. At XDA we should work together as family.

Some Questions before buying (pls)

Q.1) The camera of Z2 plus has gotten pretty bad reviews just wanna know if it's the ZUI that's holding it down or the hardware isn't that great?
Q.2) What is the future of the development of this phone ?
Thanks

May be you can open your eyes and see what's going on in firmware development section?
The camera is generally considered good for the price on the stock rom (ZUI). I haven't used it much though as I prefer custom roms. The development part you can browse through the development section to check out. I think it's a well supported device now than when I bought it. There are loads of very good developers interested in this device now that we won't have to worry about not finding an alternative rom in the foreseeable future.
P.S. The camera quality in custom roms is good enough for me. I don't consider myself much of a photographer though, which might mean you won't be satisfied. In any case, I doubt zuk z2 is a 'camera' phone. It's SD820 at a cheap price and that's all I looked for when buying. You might want to consider your preferences before buying.
Thanks a lot man
