I know this is a question no one can answer at this point, but what do you guys think? Will there be at least as much development for this device as compared to the nexus tablets?
I've never owned an android tablet before, and was waiting for this opportunity, but if there will be very little development, i don't see the point of getting the pixel c.
Any thoughts?
Where do I start?
1. A question does not belong in general
2. Asking this sort of question is disrespectful
If you want development then pay someone to develop for you. Or take a crack at it yourself.
For all we know some badass dev is working on a badass rom for us in the background.

1. Thought i is for general. If it is not the case I would like to ask a mod to move it to the appropriate place.
2. How is this even remotely disrespectful? This is a general question, directed towards no one specific, and not being judgmental what so ever.

Your questions is about the equivalent of asking a a dev when there will be an ETA for an update to his/her rom. Its almost like an unspoken rule, that Googles devices will be getting custom roms, and some of the BEST ones at that. I am sure the pixel line up will be just like the nexus when it comes to having a great development community.
@Jhonys I think people are being a little harsh to you, man. It's a legitimate question that I have been wondering myself. There has been a lot of negativity towards the Pixel C. There are a lot of people on here complaining about issues with the Wifi and touchscreen. Also, it hasn't been getting great reviews. I don't know how I feel about the reviews because, save for PC Mag, all of the reviews just poopoo the fact that it isn't great for productivity. I understand that it is more focused on productivity than general tablet use, but that doesn't mean it isn't an absolutely fantastic tablet. I just use mine to read and play games while I poop, as well as the occasional in-flight entertainment. I think it is by far the best Android tablet for my usage scenario and I really want there to be a large community for it. Regarding ROM development, I know that @BeansTown106, who makes the absolutely fantastic Pure Nexus ROM's, has said in these forums that he plans on getting a Pixel C and developing for it. I am really looking forward to his ROM. I also hope TWRP releases a recovery soon and we can get a basic root going.

Thanks for your answer. I too think it's a legitimate question and was quite surprised with the attitude, but that doesn't really matter atm.
The thing is I really don't want to get a tablet which will die slowly because of lack of development. I already did that mistake twice with my smartphones (most recently the HTC m9 which has 2 great AOSP roms but that's about it). Just got the nexus 6p for that reason exactly and want the same with a tablet.
Regarding the usage, I'm also not looking for a productivity tablet. More to read pdf books (student), and watching movies while flying (which I do quite a bit). How do you find its performance? Does it lag or stutters when you try to watch full HD movies or browsing the web etc? All the reviews I've seen so far focus more on the productivity aspect of it.
Thanks again :good:

Performance wise, it has been a dream for me. I have streamed some high bitrate 1080p x264 movies over my wireless network using Kodi 15.2 and it was smooth as silk. Web pages scroll just as smoothly or smoother than on my Nexus 6P or when I had my Nexus 9. I have some issues with the design of the tablet, namely the placement of the speakers and front facing camera, but otherwise, it is by far the best tablet I have ever owned.
I'm assuming it won't be long before there is a full linux distro running on this - as well as a way to run chrome. Hard to be sure if or when though - its not something to _expect_ when making a purchase now...

This post single handedly pushed me into hitting the "submit order" button on the Pixel C. Had it in my cart for two weeks... was just waiting for a sign. Thanks man, if it does half of what it did for my Nexus 6 I am a happy person.
Does anyone know if there are any custom roms being developed for this phone?. It's odd to see such a power house not be developing into something greater, it will be a shame to sell due to lack of development. P. S respect to all developers over the years for the great roms I have had the pleasure of using onany handsets
Doesn't seem like there will be, if there is audio may be a problem. Came from the Axon7 and the audio was trouble for the devs.

Wait for Oreo. It seems like we already have the vendor partition so Oreo will make life easier
I've never seen such a big community and a lot of custom ROMs like this. OK, it is a good, cheap phone. But a lot of people cannot buy it and have to choose another cheaper one.
So @ all Devs here: Don't forget us!!!
Have a look at Mi Max 3 for example, or others. There is not only one custom ROM since half a year! It is frustrating...frustrating not have the money for God-Phone PocoF1 and have to use only MIUI! Please look and help us...
Donate some phones on developers and they might start working on it on free time. They can't just buy and work on a phone without a good number of user base to start with. Oh yes, emphasis on term 'free time' because they do it as free extra work without forcing you to pay and most of them work on multiple devices.
Poco F1 had a good start because it was marketed as custom development friendly and sponsored by Poco Gobal itself. They started giving out phones to known developers voted by users.
If in the first place you were prioritizing custom development as criteria for new phone, then you should had waited for Poco to get cheaper or just saved more money. Mi Max series were never that attractive to developers to start with.

Thats not truth...there a lot of MiMax3 users and Devs...donate without ROM? No way...! Why 150.000 ROMs for only ONE phone here?!?!?!?!

That's because the devs here are willing to spend their free time on development. And if you want custom development for your device, request it to the respective XDA channel. This channel is for Poco F1.
To be honest I see the major point for such big community is the 3 day bootloader unlock. Obviusly apart from the giveaway Poco themeselves promoted and even the community has bought throught donations phones for some great developers who started their work blind building... It's a community builded thanks to the company efforts in making it possible (it's not like they do it perfectly but the results are here to be seen.)
Even if your community bought today a mi max 3 for some great developers there would be at least 3 months away from trying the roms in their own devices...
I don't know man... if you look up for mi max 3 on internet prices are around 220€ and today i have seen offers for pocohone at 250€. While I'm sorry for you I strongly recommend to look up to the community a phone gets before buying it.
Have a good day sir.

agreed i buy phones that i know will have good development, not buy and then moan about it on the internet afterwards when there are no custom roms available.
lesson learnt the hard way
Don't demand, contribute. You should start developing for your device so that other devs can join in. If you don't know how to do so, then learn. If you want an active dev community, check the forums before buying a phone.
Remember, we get custom kernels and ROMs because the devs want to share the product of their hobby. They can keep it all for themselves and it's still totally fine. Please have some respect.
Lecterr said:
No, sorry , I won't. I can do what I prefer to do, what I think it is right, not you! There are a lot of things I don't like on Pocophone (missing L1, ugly notch, plastic all over, smaller display and accu) I never buy a Xiaomi phone in future, thats it!

Well thats your money and what you do with it it's your decision but how can we expect someone to spend their free time without some sort of motivation to do so ? in Poco case the company contacted all popular devs and send then free phones to kick start it .
One should always search for "Popular devices of particular year". Many tech websites including xda and gsmarena(dot)com display most popular devices on their websites. Also while making a buying decision always check how many devices sold or reviewed on shopping websites. This way you eliminate lesser popular phones and arrive at conclusion.:good:
All the best.:fingers-crossed:
lesson learned after buying a phone without active community makes your phone lonely and it was a long time ago. and now before buying new phone i always check if community is active on that kind model then i buy.. too bad this is your first time experiencing that.
Why don't you learn how to cook and port roms, and do so for your phone?
There are a lot of devs who said they will cook for my phone but nothing happend...THIS is frustrating a lot of people here...

My gf has a RN6 Pro, which I thought would have a big community and a lot of devs will work on it, custom roms, etc just like it's successor, RN5 Pro. But it's not. Should I say that it's not fair? Come on, nobody ever asked you to buy that phone or to use custom rom. Maybe next time you'd better wait before buying a phone.
dev is human, they have life, most of them do it for free,,

Please STOP creating a redundant thread and more so post in the wrong section. If you want custom roms for your device please post in your device section. I suggest you read the forum rules before you post and always request for something you desire in the correct device specific section.
Please be respectful to the community when you post and never post in a demanding way. I have cleaned up the thread, Edited the Tittle and moved it to the Mi Max 3 Section, Please continue the discussion here on a positive note and request for developer assistance.
Help us keep the forum clean and do not clutter the other device sections with irrelevant threads. If you still want to know why Poco F1 is a desired choice you can check the existing discussions and contribute towards a healthy discussion and outlook.
I also recommend you do some research before making your purchase decision for your next device. Some Developer Friendly Devices that i can suggest are OnePlus & Pixel Devices. Just in case you dont like them or find them expensive, you can wait for the Poco F2 to be announced later this year.
Thank you for your consideration,

It's not anybody's fault that there are no more dev working on other phone. You're just whiny that the reality doesn't work the way you want. Don't blame others. Just sell your phone and buy a new one.

You are one of a few people, who don"t understand the message...never mind...
poco screen not big enough. and cpu overkill for alot of things.
also max users prefer to have a phone no need to charge up to 2 days with mid/heavy usage.
a phone without battery is useless. max series just too good for travelling and gaming.
then again...EU has saved Max3 with their rom all we need just an undervolt kernel with more cpu governor options.
First of all, my apologies if this is the wrong section to post this as I'm honestly not sure where to put this in order address developers for cross-device development.
I'm looking for a port of MIUI11/12 for atleast my device specific (S10+).
After moving on from a Mi5 -> OP6 (MIUI11) -> S10+ (Stock) I really miss the beauty and elegance that MIUI offers.
Please refrain yourself from advising me to swap/switch phone, that's not what I'm asking for.
I can spare 0 euro (revoked, see edit) via Paypal for a working (stable enough for daily driver) port of MIUI11/12, and I'm perfectly aware that this is fairly low budget for development/debugging time.
It's just a motivation (hopefully) for a developer to start working on porting it for our device.
Again, I'm sorry if this isn't the right place. I also apologize if anyone feels offended by this thread in any way (under-appreciation or similar).
As a sidenote; I can test early builds, and I'm willing to help out sending debug logs etc if that has any beneficial aid towards getting a (semi-)stable rom.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: I'm opting out of this offer as I've sold my S10+ to buy a different device.
I will keep the thread as is in case other have the same question as I had.
great idea... ✌?
Not that I hate the idea but that kind of makes no sense. The most expensive thing Samsung's smartphones have is software. I had a lot of phones and used a lot of ROMs but nothing beats debloated OneUI (HadesROM). At times I check out AOSP based ROMs just to find out I can't use it anymore. Give it a chance. Isn't MIUI Xiaomi's overlay?

I've tried Stock, Hades, Havoc and Derp but nothing compares to the UI/Smoothness that MIUI offers.
Now I'm back on stock because I feel like it's the best of all current options.

I know this is a new phone. So there hasn't been much time, but I was wondering if it's likely that this phone will/is likely to have a decent amount of development.
I'm guessing there will be a lot of apps that can be customized to this phone's screen setup.
Also if features like the three finger swipe to move an app from screen to screen could be ported from the V60 to this phone.
Just curious, because so far it's been pretty quiet here so far.
Thanks everyone!
I don't think the phone's been marketed as heavily as other phones. It doesn't seem as popular, so unless carriers in the US get a display out or spend money on marketing, I don't think development will go far. But one can hope, because I love this phone.
+1 brother. So far loving it!

Sorry... Not sure why that font is so big...
Well,in my case everything is actually fun again.I love that you can do what you always do but in a different way.I know updates and software development is going to be ugly cause that's the way with LG phones. But,this one is special. You can feel it the first time you use it.
I love this phone. We NEED to root this phone boys.
I just found out about this phone when visiting here. Given that I've been looking for a new phone on and off for six months that's really not good!
Unfortunately I have no relevant skills so is there no hope of development?
