Hi guys,
I have got a fold 3 but when I open it up it seems to be at about 175 degree rather than 180. If I look down the line along the top of the phone when open with one eye I can see it slightly bend off. Should the device open completely straight?
If I look at the back of the device when it's open, I can just see some of the samsung logo on the hinge, like a fingernail gap. Should the two edges of the phone be touching each other when open.
I will try add photos later.
^ Agree - mine does not sit perfectly flat on a desk either. There is always the slightest wobble. If you press down, it will go flat but then the small gap returns.
Yeah, I would worry about that as mine opens flat, you cannot see the Samsung Logo at all.
Yeah, it wobbles a little when open and laying flat because of the camera bump. That's normal. It should be open a full 180 degrees. Unless there is something wrong with mine. LOL!
Like @Talderon said, it should sit flat. When mine is unfolded I cannot see the hinge and the two edges touch.
HOWEVER... When I took it out of the box it was not like that! Like you said, mine didn't quite fold open to 180 degrees. Mine opened to about 178.5 degrees. Just not quite flat unfolded. I think the hinge may need a break in period, IDK?
But I did notice the same thing you did and when I went to check again, I noted it was reaching 180 degrees now. After two months of use is seemingly more fluid than when I originally folded it so I think the break in period is real thing with this hinge.
Mine stopped opening fully and I logged this with Samsung UK through the customer service app. I had to send them some photos and they arranged for an engineer to come round and do a home repair. He ended up changing the inner screen, outer screen and batteries, under warranty. He said he basically just put my Fold's motherboard in a new chassis.
Took him about an hour and it now folds completely flat, is stiffer and opens with a small snap as it becomes flat. Way different to the way it was before he changed everything over. The inner screen crease is also a lot less noticeable now than it was.

Hey guys. I have the Telus HTC Touch Pro2, and I have noticed a problem. The part where the touch screen half of the phone makes contact with the keyboard part, causes a scratch on the keyboard part. There was plastic on this part before, but I removed it, and now it is scratching. I don't mind this, but just wanted to warn ppl not to remove the plastic.
I will post pics tomorrow.
I had a little piece of plastic just on the right side of the keyboard. I removed this, because I tought I missed it with unpacking my TP2. But now there is a little woggle(? mean little space between screen and keyboard), so everytime I press the screen on that side of the device I can feel and hear the two parts coming together. It's really annoing and it started when I removed the little piece of plastic. For my feeling it's a last fast hot fix by HTC.
But i don't see scratshes yet. I can see dirt on the left and right of the keyboard where the sliding is, but I can easily remove this. But on the longer term, I think there will be permanent 'dirt' aka scratches on both sites....but hey, when you don't want this to happen, put your device away and don't use it
Scratches fix.
As soon as i opened my TP2, i knew the clear plastics were for protection so i left them. In time the one on the right started to peel itself off. THE FIX... I removed it completely and colored it BLACK with a Sharpie Marker, pulled out some transparent scotch tape out of my drawer and carefully traced/cut it out with a sharp razorblade. Carefully stuck it back on and VOILA! A perfectly new replacement a-la' Jerry Rig! Maybe you can cut out 2 pieces ontop of one another to reduce the play when closed? Time = Approx. 10mins.
Hey guys. Yea I just wanted to leave this as a warning to other tp2 owners who thought the plastic was just packaging.
I can't take any pictures since the only other camera is a phone. It dosen't capture the scratches properly.
I left the stickers on. However, as it turned out later, one of the stickers wasn't applied properly. Eventually, the sliding motion caused that sticker to come off and bend just a little at one corner. I cut the bent part off, and the whole thing came of a few days later.
When you get your phone, make sure those stickers are applied properly, and squeeze out air bubble from underneath if needed.

First off, I just got my tilt2 from stores yesterday, and I must say, I love it so much! Just got a few concerns...
For those of you who have the tilt2, when the screen is tilted all the way up, is there a "looseness" of about 2-3 degrees? Meaning, theres just a small portion of the tilt2 at its most "tilted moment," so to speak, that it just wiggles back and forth for about2-3 degrees? It's not too big of a deal really as the current tilting of the tilt2 seems MUCH more sturdy (and it will probably last much longer holding its tilt feature), but I want to know if its a physical defect on my current tilt2, or that's just how its made for whatever reason.
Also, I am quite worried about how much looser the top screen portion of the tilt2 is from the bottom keyboard when closed all the way as compared to my original tilt. If I were to slightly use my hands to grab each separate part and pull them apart gently, it is easy to see that it easily lifts, and if I pulled any harder, I can almost break those halves apart, whereas my first tilt BARELY budged even after 2 years of use. Basically, everything about the tilt2 is better, but it seems like it won't be able to take much of a beating as compared to the tilt1.
Just concerned about inevitable wear-n-tear, and its effects itll have in the long run, or couple of months even. Thanks in advance for future input!
Regards,
K
The 2-3 degrees of wobble is normal from what I've read. Mine has it too. It's slightly unfortunate, but doesn't really cause any practical problems.
I have read at least one report of a screen that can be separated from the body by a lot when closed. He said he could fit 15 (I think) playing cards in there, which mine most certainly could not fit. I never had a tilting phone before to compare to, but I am satisfied with my closed gap, which only goes up to about 1mm with light separating pressure. If your gap is much larger than that, it may be one of the less well attached screens.
I have the same problem with my tilt 2. Its abit annoying when you press in the screen on the left side of the device in portrait mode with the keyboard closed and the screen pushes in because of the gap but I don't beleive its a defect. I have seen some sturdier as my buddy's tilt 2 have zero play but his keyboard is hitting the bottom of the device and has scratched some keys so I would take mine any day. Plus I don't wanna chance it and take it back for an exchange as what you get may be worse.. IE - Dead pixel, screen QTY, keyboard lights, an even more loose slider, etc, etc.

Thanks for your reply, makes me feel at ease. Also, I think you've misunderstood, my gap is as small as you say, and from your words, it must be normal. It's when I intentionally put pressure on the screen and keyboard (not that I would do that on a normal basis, just for initial inspection purposes) that makes the gap wider. Though, I guess with a tilting screen like this, theres less tightness between the screen and keyboard. But nonetheless, all is normal. I was only concerned with those when I purposely applied my own force. I was not use to how much more delicate this machine, the tilt2, is as compared to my brick of a tilt1.

Yes, that was one of my que's from the start.
It was when the whole device was closed and I was playing with the touch screen, you could feel the screen go down a bit as I applied pressure to it. It was almost like if i pressed any harder, the bottom of the screen would just keep hitting the keyboard. But hey, glad to see that this seems to be a normal thing.

K
PS. Oh and yes, I noticed it when I tapped on the left side of the screen as well.
Hi,
Some time after buying my gnex it was charging on my computer desk with the USB hooked up, the cable got tangled in my chair and when I went to get the door, it slingled the phone across the room.
Luckily I couldn't detect any visual or functional defect, but after a while I noticed that if I apply some pressure to the lower left part of the device, on the screen, there is like a creaking noise, as if I can move the screen around a fraction of a mm inside the housing. I can also flex the screen when applying pressure on the top right of the screen where the front facing camera is.
Probably happened from the fall or do others have this?
I also have this very rare graphics glitch, when swiping homescreens, only happens when going from one particular homescreen with gmail widget to the one with the calendar widgt, there is like a tear in it, only lasts for a split second.
Sounds like the screen got loose when it flung across the room I don't have that issue with mine call for a replacement say its been like that since day 1
Specifically, the spot is just left of mid-line and about a 1/3 of the way up from the bottom in portrait mode. If you have the wallpaper of the quill with the scribble (not the ink well), it is just to left of the quill tip. If I press on the corresponding spot on the back or flex the tablet from the sides a bit, a bright spot appears on lighter backgrounds (it doesn't show on dark backgrounds). A white background is back.
Ok, so everyone is going to say don't push or flex the tablet and I agree However, I bought the MoKo rotating case and when I snap it in firmly, this spot appears. I remove the tablet or loosen up the left side of the case, the spot disappears. The case appears to flex the tablet a bit, causing the display issue. I'm going to give another case a try, but MoKo is really the only rotating case, which I really liked.
Since the back of the tablet is "spongy" in this spot and allows it, I was trying to determine if this is a design issue with all of Note 8's or a manufacturing defect with mine. I went to a big box store to test, but they no longer have the Note 8's on display. However, all of the other Samsung tablet models have this issue in one spot or another. It seems Samsung has sacrificed sturdiness for a lower profile. So, I'm wondering if folks can help me determine if I should return this for another unit or deal with it.
I'd try flexing the cover's tabs some to see if I could alleviate the flexing... this is common on all tablets and phones since they are made to be as light as possible these days.
You might be able to heat the case holder with a hair dryer to make flexing/bending it easier.

I've seen this in mine. Definitely pressure flexing back plate pressure on the battery frame. The screws holding the battery will press from the back of the LCD and you'll see a bright dot. Relieve the flex/stress or the dot it permanently bruise.

DizzyDen,
Thanks for the suggestion. I did try flexing it back into shape, but to no avail.

dtvboy,
Thanks for confirming the issue. You are right, the spot does resemble the tip of a screw. I just received the fintie slim case and I no longer have the issue. I miss the rotating stand, but it's better than the distracting dot or damaging my tablet.
Chris
You could also try sanding the flat part of the rotating holder... anything to relieve the pressure it puts on the back of the Note... bending the corners forward on the holder might help as well.
Hi!
I have the phone for about a month, it works perfectly and I love it. But in the first few weeks, whenever I unfolded the phone it snapped right to a 180 angle, but in the last few days it seems like there's sometimes a missing few degrees before it's completely flat.
If I unfold it a bit more with a little bit of force (but not much at all) it unfolds completely flat again. Is that normal? Should I show it to Samsung?
Dust.
You should give it a bath

Been doing that to mine since day one. I work in construction so a bath is required to keep it clean.

It could possibly be the bristles inside the hinge that keeps dust from getting inside the device. If those bristles come loose (it's a strip that's apparently glued on across the entire length of the phone inside the hinge) they could possibly hinder the phone from opening all the way flat. That's a wild guess but I read somewhere about the bristles coming loose and creating problems. Anyway, you probably should make Samsung or your carrier (if you bought the device through a carrier) aware of it. The hinge is under warranty so if it fails, Samsung should fix or replace it for free or your carrier can issue you a warranty replacement.

At first I thought this was a joke, but it actually makes a lot of sense. Just to confirm - You really do this? Legit? haha. I also work in a veryyy dusty environment.. Might have to start doing the same!

Isn't it amazing how far technology has come
Mine has always needed an extra push to open fully from new.

Mine does exactly the same thing. Sometimes it snaps right open 180 and sometimes it does not. You should not worry about it!

Me too, out of the box I needed to push a little to get it perfectly flat. It has improved slightly after a few weeks but I still need to do it. My Z Fold 3 snapped open flat by itself. It annoys me quite a bit.

I never had the previous Folds to compare but the geared hinge sounds better quality to me. However, I think that as long as our phones snap shut properly and need a bit of force to open then all is well.
Basically once I pull mine open for the rest of the way I'm doing all the work to get it to open fully. I don't feel any kind of 'spring action' assisting me.
This is normal. My Fold 4 has done this since new. It opens like normal to like 175 degrees then the remaining 5 is a bit loose/soft. If I push further to 180 and let go it will kinda push itself back to 175. Not a big deal to me. I feel like the fewer degrees the glass bends the less likely the crease will crack
I had this problem with my Fold 1 and Fold 2. A couple of months after purchase I noticed the phone wouldn't open all the way. Its dust! Push a sticky tape into the hinge and run it along the edge on both sides. It is a tedious process but it should help.
What clothes are you Wear with a lot of dust?
Ok but seriously I have fold 2 above 1,5 years, carry in pocket of trousers and I don't have aby problems with full fold
I had a Fold 2 and Fold 3(x2). Also I had a Fold 4 in burgundy. All of them was completely 180 flat. Now I have a Black 1 Tb fold 4 and have the same "Non flat" issue. For complete flat opening I must push the sides. But it is so since day 1 out of the box. I think it depends on how the screen protector is glued and stretched.
