Hey guys... Ive had both the Samsung Focus and the HTC Surround... not sure which i want to keep though... Surround is louder which i like ringtone wise and i like the soft touch back.. I liked the screen, camera and thickness of the focus more though.... Just looking to see what other peoples thoughts were or maybe what your determining factor was...
focus, compare the screen of both phones side by side and you'll clearly see the difference
Compare them side by side using office or email and you'll notice the surround looks better. The surround does better with the lighter colors. Size really isnt a factor because even though the Focus is thinner (less then an 1/8 of an inch) because when you compare all 3 dimensions the Surround is actually smaller. Both are good picks. Just go with your gut and I'm sure you'll be pleased either way.
do you use your phone as a multimedia device or a business device? Thats kinda what it comes to.
Been using a Surround for more than a week now. It feels substantial but not clumsy and has excellent build quality. I thought the Samsung felt cheaper and had a more pixilated screen. Vote for Surround.
The ATT store I went to had the Focus and Surround side by side.. played with both and bought the Focus eventually. The Focus is really very thin and light and you wont even fell it in your pocket. Also even though its basically all plastic it does not feel cheap.
Definitely keep the Focus.
The way that I decided between the two (well, three for me) was to stand at the AT&T display and play around with both. With one in each hand, making the decision was really rather easy for me.
I was really impressed by the Focus. The large, pretty screen made me happy. I bought one.
Honestly, my impression of the Surround was that it was a terrible joke gone awry. It makes absolutely no sense to me, and it boggles my mind that the Surround was ever manufactured, much less brought to retail. Every time I see one, I want to slap Ralph De La Vega for polluting my potential choices with garbage like that instead of bringing over quality equipment.
That being said, lots of folk really seem to thing that the Surround is not a miscarried fetus of design, and as such what you should take away when considering your personal device should be what matters to you. Think about what you do or want to do with your phone on a daily basis, and apply that to the choices you have at hand. I ended up choosing the Focus, but you may decide that something else fits your desires better.
I'd hate to be the one to bump a thread but I too am looking at these two devices. I have always used qwerty phones (I have the Tilt 2 now) and HTC. However now AT&T only has the LG to choose from for a kb and its screen is small, quality is nominal compared to the other two and the kb feels horrible to the touch (and cheap).
Now I am trying to figure out which of these two phones (Focus/Surround) I want.
Focus: I like the focus for its larger screen, lighter weight and the fact that is has 1gb internal sys mem (sys mem, not storage mem). However all of the store displays of all AT&T stores I went to have a slight image burned onto the screen. They told me the screens are on 24/7 but still...the other phones don't have that. Also it lacks 50% of the space since it doesn't have the 8GB card in it.
HTC Surround: I like the brightness a little more on this screen, plus the HTC software (ie, youtube). The sound is a better obviously and it has the extra 8GB card. The screen is a little smaller though, it has way less sys mem (not storage mem), and less talk time (battery life)...at least based on specs.
I need good images, accurate keyboard for a touch kb, use it for business and space....well I have a 8GB SanDisk so I'm sure it would work in the Focus so space isn't much a concern. Battery life is important as I use my phone a lot. Also important is speed....the HTC has 1/2 the sys mem pretty much as the Focus does...yet I haven't heard anyone make any comments about this yet.
PS: Oh! and I can get the HTC Surround for 1 penny but the Focus is $99.....so that also obviously adds a little imbalance.

Speed is never mentioned because its not that big of an issue. Windows Phone 7 was designed specifically for these devices and as such, has a minimum system requirement, and because of that, they both work very well on any of the devices on the market currently. The extra memory doesn't make much of impact on performance.
To be honest, aside from the SAMOLED screen, the Focus looks boring and feels cheap. Also, Samsung's track record for supporting their own devices has been subpar at most, for this reason alone I steer away from Samsung devices unless its a Samsung TV.
The Surround doesn't win any design awards, but I do think it looks better than the Focus and doesn't feel cheap. The speaker, while not really useful, is great for pumping out music and video (which is good since WP7 is a media-centered device). Not to mention the awesome support that HTC devices get from HTC, from software to updates, HTC has a much better track record than Samsung.
And when it comes to smartphone battery life, I think its safe to say you're not going to get great battery life period. You are gonna have to plug in your phone at least once a day, and anyone expecting it to last any more than that will be in for a surprise. So I usually ignore battery life when looking at phones (unless the battery life is really dismal).
Obviously they both have their ups and downs and its up to you to decide whats most important to you. The screen burn-in issue on the Focus is one I've heard before, so that actually would bother me quite a bit. I haven't heard any issues with the Surround really.
I just hope if I were to choose HTC, if it will last with good use until the end of the day. I am perfectly fine with charging my phone ever night. It's just when I have to charge it i the middle of the day and wonder if I even have a charger near me that bothers me. My tilt 2 has even had this issue (although usually it does ok).
can't speak much for the surround but i have a HTC 7 Trophy and it lasts through the day. however, i use mine for radio for like 6 hours of the day and by about 7pm it's dead, so i charge it at work. but still, that is using the radio for 6 hours...

lol, this has been another factor in choosing. It's the Samsung Focus that has been having troubles. That alone has put a lot of favor towards the surround for me and installs a lot of negative assumption in Samsung's build quality.

Why don't we wait and see how a real update is handled. If NODO comes out at the same time for both devices (even if it was delayed because of the Samsung), it really doesn't matter, because both received the update at the same time.
Weighing in on the question at hand. The Focus takes some of the best pictures of any smartphone on market today. If that is important to you, then that is reason enough to get the focus.
The Focus has a very nice screen, with gorilla glass. The battery life is top notch. The external speaker isn't bad. Fast NAND memory that may likely be more reliable.
The Samsung simply has higher quality components, even though the two devices share many of the same components.
Now, I do have the Focus, but when buying a WP7 device I wasn't bound to any single carrier, so I was able to research out all the devices thoroughly, and the Focus is the one I went with.
Well I do know that I thank all for their feedback. I have decided to order the HTC Surround. There has been good reasons for both sides to get either phone but the more I read online, the more I see people complaining about the screen burn-in issue as well as upgrading windows and the history of Samsung's own efforts to update their products.
Once I have the Surround I will share my own feedback to help contribute to the pot of knowledge.
Get the Focus. Its faster, has better specs, better battery life, better screen, etc.
Sent from my Samsung Focus using Board Express
I have a Captivate at the moment but am considering a Focus, no other phone is even in the running. I have been spoiled by the Samsung screen.....nothing else will do. I've looked at the surround but it just can't compare.

I really think this is going to end up like the whole plasma screen burn in issue - something we will hear about for years to come that is more of an issue in word than in reality. Regardless I hope that the Surround works out for you.
As a Surround user, I can say that the battery life is terrible. I love the phone although with moderate usage I still end up having to charge it around 5 PM if I plan on going anywhere that evening. Or if I make any long phone calls.
Got the phone two days ago, have been using it a bit since then, here are some general pros/cons, with a more detailed write up following some more use. Hopefully this can help some people make a decision on whether to purchase or keep the phone themselves. I will not comment on the software (most newer WP7 phones work just about the same here), aside from the Nokia specific apps/stuff.
Anyway, I have read probably two dozen Lumia 900 reviews, and everyone seems to have their own opinion (with some general themes shared amongst them), so here is mine:
Pros
Build quality is fantastic, best phone I have ever held. Feels amazing and snug in your hand. I am a fan of the square look, as opposed to the rounded edges of most devices. I actually prefer the Flash to the Focus S in that respect.
Built in speaker is loud, much louder than my Focus S, which is nice, but maybe a little "tin-ey"
Call quality is amazing, and signal strength is better than my Focus S (plus the 4G in MD really flys)
Screen looks fantastic (indoors). Blacks are inky black, colors pop, whites are less blue than the Focus S, and it seems to be brighter too. I don't understand how someone could choose an SLCD over this display. Sit them side by side (the Titan II in my case), and the colors just look pathetic.
With that said, looking at text is fine. Don't let PPI pundits fool you, you cannot tell a difference between say the Nexus and the 900 (partially because the Nexus uses the dreadful pentile). You really do not need HD resolutions on a 4" display, unless you plan on holding it inches from your face, which is just silly (@ a distance of ~10in, your eye can no longer tell the difference between HD and non-HD on a 4.3in screen, and its only about 7in on an iPhone sized screen). And don't even mention the iPhone, comparatively its like looking at a postage stamp, no thanks!
Auto adjust screen intensity actually works well
Nokia apps are great, especially Drive and ESPN
Color is sexy. An identical theme choice would have been sweet.
Chrome finish on the surrounding lens area is nice
Battery life, holy cow, is great. I am on day two of mild use and am still at 50% battery.
Capacitive buttons have a slightly different feedback to them than I am used to, I like it. They are also slightly more difficult to trigger, which is actually a good thing.
Slightly newer OS version
Nokia specific theme is much better than the default blue
Some Nokia specific sounds, which are generally improvements to the default ones
VVM! The phone has you set it up on first boot, so I assume(hope) it works!
Price, hell yea, I made $80 on this phone!!!
Cons
Bevel around the screen (I hate it, hurts my ear, my biggest gripe)
Speaker can be too loud at low volume settings
Can't seem to get my gmail to sync (very weird, I will need to get this fixed ASAP). All other syncing has worked just fine.
Location and size of lens and chrome is odd, your fingers are always on them when holding the device. Could gunk up that area quickly.
Weird sim card slot (its not terrible, its just strange, not in a good way). Silly Sim card remover (basically a souped up paper clip)
Non-removable battery, though I would gladly give this up for the build quality and design
Its a bit heavy and large. Not extremely so, just more so than expected. I think the device footprint could have been smaller, and I am not sure why it weighs what it does to be honest.
Screen scrolling does not feel quite as responsive as some other models. What I mean by this is scrolling seems to be slower, and you can't really throw it in one direction and have it scroll rapidly through a list quite as fast as I was used to.
Off white capacitive buttons, that do not brighten up like some other models
Pre-installed Tango needs to be replaced do allow for non-WiFi calling
Outdoor screen performance not as awesome as I expected. Don't get me wrong, its better than the Focus S, its just not all I thought it would be. I expected near indifferent performance indoors vs. out, with the hype the display received, but that is not the case.
I am not a fan of the button placement. It will take some getting used to. I have large hands, so the power button where it is is really a strain on my thumb to reach.
I can't really comment on the camera, because I have not used it much. Though what I have heard is the screen itself does not do the images justice. So do not judge their quality until you get them off the device, onto a computer or printed out. Hopefully a software update can address any deficiencies here.
Even though the specs are similar, I consider this a significant upgrade from my Focus S, both in quality, design, and features.
Hopefully this is useful information. And hopefully some more details should be incoming. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Good post emjlr3.
Since we're being honest here, I'll add a couple of gripes to the thread.
Apparant lack of Visual Voicemail. (since found out it is wrongly provisioned account and a call to the ATT rep or online chat will resolve it)
Sim card slot does not sit perfectly frush after inserting sim.
Was surprised at the lack of things in the box. (earphones, instruction manual)
The placement of the mini usb. (I prefer bottom mounted. I suppose we'll never be able to use any music dock easily, etc?)
This is also just my personal opinion. I think it's a great phone. Beautiful and slick. Hope it holds up as well as my HD7 did.
has anyone noticed the purplish reflectance when in direct sunlight?
seems to only happen when I can actually see the suns reflection on the phone screen, and I see what look to be purple sun rays off a few random directions - I guess it must have something to do with the special coating.
#August 7th is the launch date if latest rumours are to be believed.
- What do you think about the rumored pinhole front facing camera? Looking at the small size of it, is it going to be inferior to the one in the S10+?
- The rumoured back cameras design looks a lot like what we have seen in several other smartphones. It does not look appealing to me and expected a better design.
- No hardware bixby button seen so far looking at trustworthy sources/renders. If it's real, it would feel like a fresh breath of air. Hope they all together killed it and not keeping a software-only bixby.
- Exynos 9820 or 9825? Hope the latter.
- 25W fast charging or something like 45W? Hope it's 45 but I'm kinda sure it'll be 25.?
#Meanwhile Vivo goes INSANE with 120W super fast charging to charge 4000 mAh in 13 minutes:
- No headphobe jack it seems, not that something I care much, but a lot will be furious for sure.
- Feels good to know about AMD & Samsung's GPU licensing deal, but it does not mean we will see Adreno GPU in Exynos SoCs so soon, and nothing tastes bitter than continuing with Mali GPUs.
- Courtesy to IceUniverse's tweet, Note 10's "chin" is very narrow and hence no speaker grooves on the forehead, meaning that the flagship Sound on Display(SoD) technology will replace the traditional speaker. This is a welcome move . SoD in LG G8 for example, produces fuller, louder and equally good sound like traditional stereo ones.
- Though improved with consecutive updates, the FP sensor on the S10/S10+ still struggles at times, hope we see a drastic change in the second gen sensor.
- UFS 3.0 for sure, fast AF, sweet to have irrespective of how much of a difference it actually makes in real world..
- I wish the pinhole was at the side. Sticking it in the middle is distracting and also wastes the space either side.
- I like the camera design on the rear, it looks more natural when you are taking landscape oriented shots.
- No Bixby? No problem. Look I have tried very hard to like Bixby, I have defended it many times but in all honesty it sucks. The button is a pain as I constantly accidentally press it when gripping the phone.
- I think the processor speed regardless of which version will be absolutely more than enough. I don't get hyped up about speed anymore, I haven't had performance issues with Samsung flagships in a very long time. The latest version is nice but I am not too fussed.
- Superfast wireless charging would be nice but it's not dealbreaking.
- I do want a headphone jack! I do not see the point in removing it just to be like all the others. If they do remove it I hope they ship with some decent wireless buds.
- A GPU upgrade is a long time coming.
- I like the idea of Sound on Display for making calls, so long as it doesn't make the external speakers sound crap or too quiet when playing music or video.
- I definitely think they will improve the fingerprint scanner. My S10+ is hit and miss and seems like it's in beta. I am sure this will be improved.
- UFS 3.0 ... I agree it might not be worth the excitement but nice to have.
I hope they stick to the more subtle curves on the edges and corners. As much as I like the look of the curves on my S10+ they aren't as comfortable/practical as the Note 9.
I hope we still have a MicroSD card slot and they add wireless power share. I also want to see more attention paid to low light photography and an increase in optical zoom.
Regardless, as a Note Nutter I will be buying a Note 10. I don't want to break the chain of Notes owned since 2011

Quite liked how you wrote.
Unfortunately, we will probably see Type C AKG earphones bundled with, and not wireless buds as per this tweet:
https://twitter.com/mweinbachXDA/status/1142429182431039488?s=19
We are already seeing massive low light improvements in the S10's after the updates :
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-camera-review-updates/
Note 10 should make it even better.
Sammy will probably not pay much attention to more optical zoom capabilities for now, but with 3 variable apertures being rumored, we might see sharper images in moderate lighting conditions due to the addition of f/1.8
https://mobile.twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1141608857220681728?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
Maybe they will offer the earbuds on pre-orders (fingers crossed) But whilst I don't use the headphone jack very much I really hate this band wagon jumping that OEM's started to do when Apple removed it unnecessarily because (cough) they were brave.
The rumour mill does suggest that the Note 10 might have a 5x Optical Zoom, though it might be more destined to coincide with the next year's A-Series launches, considered Samsung's test-bed models of late. I also read that their newly developed 64 megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor is not going to make it to the Note 10.
Which leads me on to this:
What's sad is that the Galaxy Note series was always considered Samsung's top jewel in the crown. If a new innovation was being pushed out you would find it on the latest Note. Now it seems that all the excitement is taken away once the S - Series phones are released (and in some cases the Galaxy A-Series) so owning a Note doesn't give you the bragging rights you once enjoyed. A good example is that I used to love the larger screen size offered by a Galaxy Note but now my S10+ is the same size as the Note 9. Camera innovations are often re-ported from the S to the Note, along with new bio-metrics and screen technology. So aside from the S-Pen, what do we really get for all that extra cash?
I upgrade each year all the same, because I have always considered the best Android phone each and every year is the Samsung Galaxy Note. But seriously, if the boundaries between the Galaxy S and the Note becoming more and more blurred my passion for this device will probable dwindle.

a new article appeared on gsmarena where it leaks new note 10 cases and it's clearly showing that it will not have a headphone jack. personally I don't see a reason to buy it, even though I have wireless headphones I also use the wired ones at work and for the moment I can't part myself from a very useful feature.
To be honest, the Note 10 seems too similar to the S10 5G. I do prefer the centered front camera and the S-Pen is nice, but is it worth losing a headphone jack and likely having a smaller battery? Also, we see a rumored A90 without a notch or punch, but with high end specs.
Samsung has created too many models. They likely could have saved money and cut costs by combining the 5G and Note models. They could differentiate them more by using different aspect ratios. Not everyone likes the 19:9 or 19.5:9 aspect ratios. Phones are getting tall and unwieldy and a bezel-less 18:9 or 18.5:9 phone would be welcome.

Yup. It doesn't look aggressive in the pics...
And I'm not liking the punch - "pin"hole front cam. The "capsule" in the s10+ distracts, this one will too, but it's too late for me to whine.
Eagerly waiting on the official details but so far dont like the pin hole camera hole, the camera hole on the s10+ looks much better and like u can add the battery icon colors.
If they remove the Bixby button that would suck because now since u can remap I use that all day every day for my Nest cameras on demand. I mean u could use google to open apps quickly button if its constantly listening to wake up i found that drains ur battery. It's great though if u have smart displays at home and all.
Yeah, looks like I will sit this one out. The note 9 is going to be the new note4 . The notch is a deal breaker and so is the lack of headphone jack. The back camera placement is fine tho. I too ,miss the days of the Note being the flagship, and all about business, but nows it's just the Galaxy S with a pen. Some people may think it's being silly, but I refuse to pay north of 1000 bucks for something that isn't exactly what I want. I also thought there would be more Note fans who share the same view, but it looks like I am in a small minority of folks who hate the notch and love the headphone jack. I now know how the fans of the ir blaster felt.

While it sad to see the headphone jack go, I don't find the audio all that good out of the Note 9 headphone jack. It's OK but nothing special.
I use a Bluetooth adapter which gives far better sound.
So I'm not too bothered about the Headphone jack going.

You know what's funny about your post? I legit just told my wife about 2 days ago I would have happily stayed with my note 4. I had so many accessories, giant batteries like zero lemon. It was truly decked out. My last got ridiculously smashed though
This stupid ''Infinity O'' thing in the middle of the Display on Top is the only reason to wait better on Note 11 or 12. Im no Fan with this Notch/InfinityO things overall. Anyway my Note 9 is atm a beast & i guss it will be a beast for the next 2-3 years. Hopefully Sammy managed this Displayhole till this day when i feel a need to upgrade.
Same here I'm staying with the note 9 for a few years
Which is better besides camera and 120hz Display should I jump to get it
S10+ 5G
Do it!
Although stock is very low now on Ultra!
Ultra has the better camera easily. I'm switching from my note 10+ mainly for the camera and the upgraded refresh rate. I might miss my spen though
Ill be using the wqhd rather than 120 refresh rate

I looked at them side by side yesterday at ATT. I notice that Samsung has once again made the screen longer but narrower. So a regular image will be smaller with Larger black bars than on the Note. It’s also thicker. You can buy a note10+ on eBay or amazon for $800. The ultra after tax is close to double! Day to day I doubt one would feel the difference between the two. Even Samsung’s mid rage devices feel the same more or less. I reckon in day to day use the camera will be a little better in the ultra but only in certain situations.
I'm staying with note 10+ I like its wider screen and it's a beast
I do agree about making these screens bigger, but narrow....it blows. This trend needs to stop. It should have stopped and 18:9, we are at 20:9 now, it's dumb.
Except the super wonder device is better because it has a 100x spy cam that will draw alot of attention and probably force samsung to make it blurry or detect people or documents at 100x and slightly blur (via AI) sensitive info. I look for lawsuits eventually with people who will ruin it by looking into neighbors windows.

So, somehow a 100x zoom in a phone is bad, but a Nikon p1000 it even a camera with a short primary is okay? Try holding anything steady when zoomed in that much, it won't happen. And if you're not handheld there isn't going to be a difference in noticing a P1000 or a phone.
I have superzoom cameras and with 65X optical it's definitely interesting what you can do!
However, they aren't small enough to carry in a pocket. The common sense rule applies.
I live in the country, the zoom is great for counting points on a buck in the pasture. I'm no spring chicken, my old, tiring eyes thank easy to use zooms!
Looks ok
My current phone, a Google Pixel 3 XL, needs to replaced pretty soon as the USB port is somewhat broken and replacing it does not seem to really be worth it, due to some other things (brightness, camera, etc.) I am annoyed of.
I have been eying the new Sony smartphones for a while now and I am not sure whether it is really worth the 400€. My other choice would be a Samsung A52 5G and now I am wondering what you guys think about this Sony phone so far.
- Is the camera really as bad as the reviews suggest?
- Is the display bright enough to (properly) use it in the sun?
- etc.
cheers,
fd
I don't mind the camera. Though, I upgraded from an aging Sony Xperia XZ1c, so it's has a fair few more features than I am used to. I know that the Pixel line has historically had great pictures due to a combination of lenses and implementation/software. The implementation is where Sony lacks (especially on the Auto side). But... I don't often use my camera, so I don't often notice any issues with the results. It's fine for me!
I have not had much issue with display brightness in sun.. it is noticeably dim, but certainly not unusable.
Depending on your location in the world, you may want to check band support on the device and cross reference with with your country/carrier. The US is limited, the rest of the world may not be as much.
On paper, the Samsung A52 looks better, but I haven't looked much in to it. Around the same price, you may be able to find some deals on a Google Pixel 4a 5g if you want to stay with the Pixel line.
To me, the 10 III was worth it. I don't need flagship features, and the short comings don't bother me. I've used Sony devices for the past 12 years, and appreciate their effort to remain in the mobile space despite lacking sales. I think the 21:9 is pretty cool and works really well for the endless scrolling most folks do. The narrow width of the device is what I like most; it's the same width as my old XZ1c, but a bit taller.
I realize this is all a bit subjective to personal experience, but that's just how it is.
Hope this helps!
I've got this phone almost entirely due to the lack of a notch or some other obstruction to the display, and because of that aspect alone, I consider it worth it. The other good thing is Sony's Open Devices program, of which this device will hopefully be a part soon, opening up the possibilities for Sailfish OS, Ubports, etc. if that's your kind of thing.
But if you don't care about these additional features, then you can probably find a better bang-for-buck device without much effort. Especially if you don't get the wireless headphones deal from Sony.
Can't really say anything about the camera as I don't use it all that often (if it takes pictures, it's sufficient for me). Also not sure about the screen visibility in the sun as due to the pandemic I mostly stay inside anyways (working from home).
I am coming from Xperia XZ1 compact... the 10 III is only slightly bigger, and again a good device for outdoor use. Still water/dust resist, extremely fast and accurate position fix, display is perfectly bright outside, and due to the 12:9 format, you can hold, carry and operate it very good with just one hand. Performance is outstanding, of course - battery runtime is good.
No issues with the camera. Sure you will get an even better camera when you pay three time of what it costs, but for the price I would call it a very good device, worth every penny. Especially, I find the telephoto lense very useful. Sharp and natural pictures.
Magisk is working fine.
OP, I probably go with the Samsung. It supports a shared SD card slot, yes a data drive ie a dual drive handheld is now possible for you.
Used correctly this feature will become indispensable. All critical data goes on the SD card; OS, apps and temporary files on internal memory. You simple backup from the SD card then. When doing a reset factory you can reload everything from the SD card; no cloud, Playstore or PC needed. Hell yeah.
Samsung's are the most customizable stock Androids on the planet. Hundreds of free theme and icon packs on the Galaxy Store.
Samsung's tech support just plain sucks leaches on your ball sack bad though. If you're Android fluent this will not be an issue more than likely.
Sony tech support is no gem either
Samsung's tend to be bright but you should never use a AMOLED display in direct sunlight!!!
Samsung is at top with displays. This one could be a bit brighter... and live a shorter life.
Samsung Galaxy A52 5G Smartphone Review - Another chapter in a success story

The newer Samsung cams are good, I have a Note 10+ and it captures great images.
Play with both first. Seeing them in person is worth a thousand pictures...

Read more reviews on both.
Consider a used flagship model in excellent condition. Most Samsung batteries aren't that hard to replace.
Android 11 sucks, Pie is still my preferred weapon. So with a new phone you're stuck with 11 and it's lame CPU cycle eating scoped storage. Pie is still quit secure.. don't buy into the scare hype.

I think it really depends on what to do with it.
For me, the main pro's for the 10 III: Corning 6 instead of 5, slimmer and more lightweight - perfect for outdoor use. With the Samsung, I had issues with the size of my pockets and my hand ;-)

The glass difference isn't much between 5 and 6 unless you drop it without a good case.
With no case don't think Corning 6 will save it... it's still glass.
Both are readily scratched by sand.
