Resolution setting not persistent (resets to Auto) - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently using 3rd gen Fire TV Stick, latest FOS update (Feb 15ish), same issue also with Lite version that I tested a week before.
My TV only supports 1080i, but still gets detected as Full HD (1080p)-capable with "Auto" display resolution, which results in lots of visual artifacts. So I set the Fire TV Stick to 720p manually, and everything works fine.
However, any time the Stick goes to sleep or gets rebooted, the setting reverts to "Auto", requiring me to re-adjust the resolution (which gets even more annoying when trying to use a third-party launcher).
Anyone else encounter this issue, or have pointers on how to fix it? Would be much appreciated!

Fire TV very laggy - Is there a way to see why?

Hello all,
I've had my Fire TV for a while now. It has been working fine. It is rooted and has XBMC/Kodi on it, but that is about it. It had been working fine until a few days ago when I attempted to listen to an MP3 file through XBMC. It played, but it kept cutting out every few seconds and was very choppy. I noticed when it cut out, my receiver seemed to lose audio protocol as well. I thought maybe it was an XBMC issue but when I got back to the main Amazon Fire TV operating system, it was extremely laggy just to navigate. I rebooted the machine, same issue. Event he screensaver that shows photos s laggy.
I am wondering if there is something that is running on startup causing a problem. I am not using the remote that came with it, instead using a wireless keyboard. I have been using it this way for 2 months without issue.
My next thought it to do a factory reset, but would rather not if I didnt have to. Is there a way to look at what is going on similar to task manager in Windows (sorry, not too familiar with Android itself) or should I just factory reset?
Seems really silly, but I have solved the issue. I guess something with the HDMI connection had changed. I unplugged it from the HDMI 2 port on the tv and plugged it into HDMI 3 port - rebooted and it worked. Leaving this here incase someone else experiences the same issue. I wanted to get technical with it, but the solution was so simple I didn't even think of it (Amazon support requested I try this.)

Can't change display to anything other than Auto Detect

Just got my fire tv in, plugged it into my tv and set it all up but noticed it looked pretty crappy display wise, I am using it on an older tube tv but it actually has a HDMI port at the back of it so it can't be that old right? Anyways, the TV says its 1080p ready but I've never used anything HDMI on it before, is there anything I can do to make it look less crappy? I tried to go into the AFTV display settings to change them but its stuck on 'auto', it doesn't let me switch to any of the other options such as 1080p 60hz or even 720p 60hz, just says they aren't supported.....The TV also has component inputs and S-video if that helps but thats all.

It sounds like the Fire TV is unable to detect the TVs resolution capabilities and is therefore resorting to a low setting. Try following this guide to make the Fire TV cycle through various resolutions: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-access-hidden-resolution-options-on-the-fire-tv/
Thanks for responding, probably the only helpful response I've had anywhere I managed to get my tv onto 480p using that cycle, probably the best I'll be able to get.

Amazon Fire TV 2 Issues:

Iv got a dozen AFTV 1's and sticks!
However my first AFTV2, after opening and turning it on for the first time, it updated and then booted into a blank screen, nothing! Could not get into the resolution settings, nothing dead! Kaput! sent it back!
2nd AFTV2 I had issues with connecting to the wifi, and then when it was downloading the update, the wifi kept dropping out so I had to download it in bits, when it finally downloaded it installed but the new Wi-Fi remote keeps dropping off! Difficulty in pairing it up at times - so annoying! I tried everything in the end I just give up and used my fire tv stick remote!
I have found that apps I used on the AFTV1 like Advanced Task Killer no longer works as it does not show the correct RAM and does not show the processes that are currently running, so I can’t kill Kodi if Kodi crashes! Works perfectly on AFTV1.
On AFTV1 I use the standard amazon 4 USB amazon hub with a wireless mouse dongle and usb drive and both work, on the AFTV2, the hub doesn’t work, I haven’t tried to power it to see if that would work!
No optical, I guess no big deal as HDMI to TV then optical out to sound receiver! Will try this way! But I would of thought going directly would be better!
Apps like CCleaner and others the screen goes small like an android phone! Or stretched on some apps! On the AFTV1 the screen would at least get filled to the whole screen! It makes these side loaded apps look crap!
I can’t find the 4K content? Although I don’t have a 4K TV! Do you need to connect to a 4K TV for this content to suddenly become available?
The AGK FIRE app doesn’t work! My AFTV2’s don’t even appear on the list, so I can’t side load apps from say another AFTV or phone!

Netflix issues with Fire TV stick since latest firmware?

I noticed in Netflix that I've been getting skipped frames, and even the occasional frozen screen since around the time of the last firmware update a couple weeks back. It is most noticable in the beginning of the video. In addition, the stick seems locked to 720p (in everything). In the settings I have tried changing the video output from "auto" to 1080p/60, but things still display 720.
Anyone have similar issues since the latest firmware on the FTV stick?
can not confirm your issue... my girlfriend looks today a Video in netflix (Germany) and no skipping frames or other issue
Stick have latest Firmware
Thanks, guess maybe I'll have to wipe the stick.

Fire TV Gen 1 -Error "DEVICE_REBOOT_REQUIRED"

Hi,
my unrooted Gen 1 Fire TV stopped working out of a sudden. All Apps and the menu works flawlessly but when i start a video - no matter if i use Netflix, Prime Video or Youtube - nothing happens. The screen goes black or sometimes i see the first frame of the video but it doesn't start. After a couple of seconds the error message "DEVICE_REBOOT_REQUIRED" appears. I already tried to reset to factory defaults and disconnected it from power for a couple of hours.
Is this a know issue and can i do something about it?
Thanks
Maybe try setting your default video quality to a lower setting and see if you have any different results. I've never seen this but if it's video only related maybe its trying to change resolution and causing the issue?
I disconnected it again - for 12 hours - and now it works again. ?!
