Like the threadname says....
I now have a Bixby Routines set to turn off bixby right away when it is opened.
Cheers,
Martin
Double-tap of the power/fingerprint key opens the camera, a chosen app, or does nothing depending on your settings. Holding the power key can open Bixby or open the power on/off/reboot screen, whichever you choose.
Nope that is not what I mean... When I double tap the back of my Z fold it opens Bixby.... Really annoying ..
Just tried it, can't make Bixby turn on. I believe I also have it disabled, it's garbage anyway.
Try this site, you can diable Bixby or parts of it.

The back of it? Like where the cameras are? That's really odd.

Bixby Routines are super helpful, though. I have one set to make the front screen not rotate to landscape, change settings when I connect to my car stereo (like turn WiFi tethering on and read my notifications out loud) and back off after, etc.

On the Note 3 there was a gesture to wave your hand over the phone when the screen was off to see the time, # of messages, etc.
Is there a similar gesture on the Note 4? If so, how do I turn it on, I can't seem to find it.

Hey all, been enjoying my Pixel 2 for the past few days, and I wanted to use flar2's Button Mapper to remap Active edge from Google assistant and instead open the camera. Has anyone been able to do this/how did you do this? Thanks all
Note: I tried using tasker intents, did not work as intended. Merely booted me to the home screen
Tap where it says "actions" and choose "applications"

I'd much rather use the double click of the power button for the camera to be honest (not sure if you're aware of it), as I tend to trigger the active edge by accident more often

I have an S9 and Note 8, and I'm quite used to some of the Samsung apps that I, well, use. Here's the list of apps that I haven't been able to get to work, and I'd really like to:
- Bixby Voice - I installed Bixby Voice, Bixby Voice Service and Bixby Voice Wakeup from APK mirror, and I still can't get it to show up.
- Edge Screen - I tried installing the APK from APK mirror, but installation couldn't go through
- Always On Display - same as Edge Screen
Any way of getting these to work?
I don't think the Edge screen and Always On Display functions are available on the SGTS4. I think Bixby voice may have already been pre-installed onto the SGTS4 as Bixby is already pre-installed on it.
Actually, regarding Bixby voice, on Samsung site they say it will be available sometime in the beginning of 2019.
For edge panel, the pen menu could act as a replacement for the apps panel.
I'm going to assume no since nobody has responded but maybe we should look into this, would be nice to have a way to use it another app launch or camera or something, even mute/unmute or something might be nice.
I'm sure there is a way to do this in Tasker. It will interrupt the assistant "call", and replace it with any other "call". The fun part is going to be finding a script for it.
The problem is it calls a specific app, I found an app on xda for remapping the assistant button but what it does is change itself to the default assistant, then automatically does whatever you set it to do instead of launching itself when you call the default assistant. However Samsung and LG in their infinite wisdom specifically call the default "google" app with the hardware button so all doing this does is disable that button. If you long press home it does open whatever app you tell it to instead of the google assistant but not if you push the hardware button. DUMB
If I remember correctly, Tasker can interrupt any call...

Actually on Samsung devices, it's easy to remap the Bixby button in order to do whatever you want.
Some useful apps are available to give you plenty of choice even though Samsung recently added the option to remap it for some specific tasks (I think it's open the camera app, Google Assistant in stead of Bixby or simply deactivate the button).
On my Galaxy S8 I had before and on the Note 8 of a friend of mine, we were able to set the button as changing the sound status from sound/vibrate/Nothing, make a specific action when double pressed or long pressed. All that without any Bixby ugly stuff or annoying Google Assistant actions.
I never tried on LG smartphones even if there is an option to deactivate the button in the settings.

On Samsung, it was BxActions (with adb permission).
On LG, I'm currently fine with the native options (Settings > Extensions > Shortcuts).

Yah I was trying to remap assistant key. But the shortcuts only allow you to turn it on or off.
Apparently, by rooting the phone (it was possible on the V40 and G7 as far as I noticed and someone somehow managed to do it on the V50), you can use "Automate" and kill the Google Assistant app as soon as it's launched (just the part launched by the button) and launch something else in stead.
As LG phones aren't mine (the ownership is LG, I just receive them until the next one arrive), my contract doesn't allow me to root or flash the main device without any authorization explicitly given by them.
Some research here on XDA gave the info in a matter of time: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/project-remap-google-assistant-key-t3934930
Quick question; I like to fiddle with the s pen button during meetings. Is there anyway to Disable the s pen button's function to play music when the screen is off?
I've already tried disabling media controls in the s pen settings, which disables controls when unlocked. However, the button will still play music from the lock screen or screen off.
Maybe buy a fidget spinner?
You see, it is a bad habit to just fiddle with things as you describe, you may wear down the button, or for that matter anything you fiddle with
Haha. Thanks for the laugh guys. I have other things I could fiddle with at work but that could lead to trouble.
In all seriousness, is there anyway to turn this function off? It didn't exist on older Notes (had a Note 2, 4, then a regular S9+, now back to a Note again).

Oddly enough, my note doesn't do that. Tapping the pen button merely opens/toggles the lockscreen note functionality on and off.

I thought the same at first, but after a few cycles it started working. It only happens if there is a media app running, so it didn't happen for me until I launched my podcast player. Even then I don't think it worked the first few times I tried.
That makes sense and I can't believe I didn't think of that. Workaround: kill the media player (until Samsung enables a way to turn it off completely).
Thanks for the help!
Can't you go to settings>S pen>air actions and turn off media?
Haven't tried but pretty sure it turns off the S Pen for all media... You can also turn off for camera too...

Well, I had the 3,4,5,7 and 8, and in any of them was not a way to disable the button

Yeah, it's the first thing I tried. It will Disable pen actions (for media) from the home screen, but for some dumb reason will still allow action from the lock screen (if a media player is open)

That makes sense. Disabling the button would be excessive... But I would imagine that some people may genuinely want to disable media control altogether (from the s pen).

The media controls are handled through Bluetooth.
Op needs to disable Bluetooth pen functions (air Actions). Not the button.

Hit the toggle to turn it off.
That's weird. I can't reproduce the problem you have after disabled air action on media.
Are you using Samsung Music for music?
Maybe disable music control on lockscreen might help
