I have an S9 and Note 8, and I'm quite used to some of the Samsung apps that I, well, use. Here's the list of apps that I haven't been able to get to work, and I'd really like to:
- Bixby Voice - I installed Bixby Voice, Bixby Voice Service and Bixby Voice Wakeup from APK mirror, and I still can't get it to show up.
- Edge Screen - I tried installing the APK from APK mirror, but installation couldn't go through
- Always On Display - same as Edge Screen
Any way of getting these to work?
I don't think the Edge screen and Always On Display functions are available on the SGTS4. I think Bixby voice may have already been pre-installed onto the SGTS4 as Bixby is already pre-installed on it.
Actually, regarding Bixby voice, on Samsung site they say it will be available sometime in the beginning of 2019.
For edge panel, the pen menu could act as a replacement for the apps panel.

Still getting used to this phone, and the couple of disappointments that came with it.
Maybe with the right ROM, I can fix this?
I need a ROM that will:
- Allow me to use google camera app
- Allow me to use my google voice assistant wake up phrase to wake up my phone WITHOUT TOUCHING IT.
- Allow me to tell google assistant to "take a picture" and have it take a picture, without me touching the screen
- Allow me to answer phone calls with one touch.
I don't want any new themes or colors or anything. I use Nova Launcher, and have an all-black desktop with all black hidden buttons.
Which ROM is the best one for me?
Thanks!
you should start with lineage i think which is about to become official and you can use google camera on it but i dont think our phone can ever have the ability to wake device etc without touching. Perhaps your coming from a motorola device where you can talk to the phone to carry out actions but that is hardware related which this phone doesnt have like always listening mic.
I agree with @sam00561. But for always listening assistant there's a mod to enable it I think (it'll use more battery but if it's a must for you then would work for you).
Assistant takes selfies if you have google camera installed. And that call thing is configurable.
But really, starting with official los helps a lot.
Is the any way to get full Bixby features etc on S4?
Yeah, I'd really like bixby voice to be present. There's google assistant so it's not that bad, but still.
I'm going to assume no since nobody has responded but maybe we should look into this, would be nice to have a way to use it another app launch or camera or something, even mute/unmute or something might be nice.
I'm sure there is a way to do this in Tasker. It will interrupt the assistant "call", and replace it with any other "call". The fun part is going to be finding a script for it.
The problem is it calls a specific app, I found an app on xda for remapping the assistant button but what it does is change itself to the default assistant, then automatically does whatever you set it to do instead of launching itself when you call the default assistant. However Samsung and LG in their infinite wisdom specifically call the default "google" app with the hardware button so all doing this does is disable that button. If you long press home it does open whatever app you tell it to instead of the google assistant but not if you push the hardware button. DUMB
If I remember correctly, Tasker can interrupt any call...

Actually on Samsung devices, it's easy to remap the Bixby button in order to do whatever you want.
Some useful apps are available to give you plenty of choice even though Samsung recently added the option to remap it for some specific tasks (I think it's open the camera app, Google Assistant in stead of Bixby or simply deactivate the button).
On my Galaxy S8 I had before and on the Note 8 of a friend of mine, we were able to set the button as changing the sound status from sound/vibrate/Nothing, make a specific action when double pressed or long pressed. All that without any Bixby ugly stuff or annoying Google Assistant actions.
I never tried on LG smartphones even if there is an option to deactivate the button in the settings.

On Samsung, it was BxActions (with adb permission).
On LG, I'm currently fine with the native options (Settings > Extensions > Shortcuts).

Yah I was trying to remap assistant key. But the shortcuts only allow you to turn it on or off.
Apparently, by rooting the phone (it was possible on the V40 and G7 as far as I noticed and someone somehow managed to do it on the V50), you can use "Automate" and kill the Google Assistant app as soon as it's launched (just the part launched by the button) and launch something else in stead.
As LG phones aren't mine (the ownership is LG, I just receive them until the next one arrive), my contract doesn't allow me to root or flash the main device without any authorization explicitly given by them.
Some research here on XDA gave the info in a matter of time: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/project-remap-google-assistant-key-t3934930
Can anyone tell me how to stop Google Assistant opening in full screen? It used to just pop up from the bottom on my note 8, but on my note 10+ it takes up the whole screen.

The screen that you are showing is not Google Assistant, instead this is Google Voice Search from the Google App. If you launch Assistant directly (using Home Button or Gestures), it will only pop up from the bottom.

Thank you. I actually factory reset and it's working now. I definitely Had an issue during install. Google was acting really strange. It would hang when I chose some of the options and things like that period I had installed google assistant but I don't think it ever fully installed which is why it was opening up Google Voice search.
As per the title, I've tried everything I could find to replace bixby with Google assistant but nothing seems to work properly.
Has anyone managed to force assistant to be the default, along with OK, Google?
Thanks!
Odd, I would think that it would work the same as on any other Samsung device. Just set it as Default. I also use a Package Manager to disable Bixby anything if I need too, but when I get my Fold 3 next week, I will let you know if someone has not answered by then.
settings > apps > choose default apps > digital assistant app > device assistant app
choose google.
I read some where that in oneui 4.0 you will be able to replace bixby with Google assistance on button.

My side button already activates Google Assistant by default, press and hold. I actually don't want it to. I have the power menu option selected for it in settings yet it does Google Assistant anyway! No bixby anywhere to be found.
Hi i tried it not, but no possible set to google asistant... i have only one option ... bixby

How did you get google assistance on your button? Since right now only bixby is possible. Unless you install 3rd party app that does the work.

I have no idea! Smart switched from Note20 Ultra, and it just works like that. I don't want it. Like I said I set my power button to be a power button. I wish I knew! All I know is that Google assistant is set as default and side key is set to power menu. Maybe try that? I'm still trying to figure out how to disable this because I want my power menu back! If I figure it out I'll update here. (See attached video so you know I'm not just pulling your leg)
Okay I figured it out. Apparently I had a Bixby routine I forgot about! Must have carried over to my new phone but lost its "inactive" state. Not sure when I created this but totally forgot. So through Bixby routines you can override the preset options and make the button do whatever you want. Search for Bixby Routines and just create one like in the screenshot:
