Currently on a OnePlus Nord n10 5g (5g doesn't work on AT&T) I am ready for an upgrade and can grab the 512gb Pixel 6 Pro for 400$.
I see that it has a lot of support for Roms, how ever I just wanted to ask a couple questions on that topic.
Are all versions of the the Pixel unlock able and rootable? Do custom roms fix some of the issues I have heard about.
Thanks
6 Pro 512gb for $400? That's a no-brainer.
I'm using the Pro, it's been a perfect phone imo. Look, 12L just came out 4 days ago, has resolved a ton of issues for the 6 series (mobile connectivity etc). Only thing some people are seeing, is battery drain, but that can be fixed with a kernel and root. I say go for it, worst that happens is you sell it and make some money if its in good condition.
There's a ton of ROMs and kernels for the 6 series if you want to go that route, there's a pixel 6 telegram channel that provides updates with all the kernels and roms for the 6 series... pretty great to have all that info in one location t.me/pixel6updates.

No, only phones which can have the bootloader unlocked are able to be rooted and flash other ROMs. As they come, the only Pixel that can is the factory unlocked model (usually straight from Google). One or more other carrier versions of the Pixel 6 Pro can eventually have the bootloader unlocked, but not until you pay the phone off, or jump through some hoops.
I know you mentioned AT&T - I have no idea if anyone with the AT&T variant has fully unlocked their phone, but you can use the search function on this section to see what folks say. Some with T-Mobile have. Verizon variants can never be bootloader unlocked.

Correct. OEM is locked until I pay it off. Still a great deal. Thank you for more info. Awesome device!

I bought my 6 pro off eBay used it was a at&t model. The phone said I couldn't oem unluck because it was carrier lock this setting was gray out in the developer settings. I use a sim unlock code from a site and after getting the confirmation that it was unlocked I did a factory reset and now I'm able to toggle the oem setting on and off. Still need to see if the unlock command works

Good to hear, thanks! I'm sure you'll be able to unlock the bootloader just fine. Once you enable OEM Unlock (and keep it on), then there shouldn't be anything stopping you, except the caveat that when you unlock the bootloader, it'll factory reset your phone, of course.

That wouldn't be a problem since I cant just reinstall all my apps again. Now I have a question. I haven't root a phone since I had my nexus 6. After unlocking the bootloader I know I will have the message when the phone turns on.
My questions is If i root with magisk and a new update comes out for the pixel 6. Is it just a matter of uninstalling magisk and doing the system update. Than installing magisk again to root. Is it this simple or do I have to do something else before installing new system update OTA

There are at least several ways of taking updates. I do things differently (using the new full factory image each month). The best places to discuss any methods are the following threads in this section:
(All three of those threads may give information for that method, or only one or two of them. I know at least some of them detail that method. What you said basically sounds right to me, but as I said, I don't do it that way, but it's by all means just as legitimate a method.)
The fourth (not surounded in red) thread may also be important to you in order to get banking apps including Google Pay working 100%.
Good luck!

You must fully pay for your phone to get sim unlock. After simunlock you can unlock bootlaoder.

Does it still use the traditional "use a different carrier SIM and put in a code" unlock method? Just asking as T-Mo had to unlock server side.
How much did the SIM unlock run?

Well after getting the email that my unlock code was ready. The email from the site didn't have a code. It just said unlock. So I did a factory reset inserted my Verizon sim card and it's been working great since no problems at all

And again, more disappointment. Another phone with a locked bootloader! I spoke to LG and T-mobile tech support. Of course they both are playing the blame game on one another but bottom line is is that the LG G5 will be locked down just like the Samsung S7. I was told we would have to wait to see if an unlock option comes out down the road like the G4 had. What another let down....
If this is true, I'll be sticking with my LG4 for awhile.
I was thinking of getting the S7 Edge until I read about the locked bootloader.
Was hoping the LG5 wouldn't be locked.
Patience is a virtue
You are overreacting because LG has a history of providing an unlock method just as long as the owner realizes that they have registered the phone has warranty void. This is no big deal because we already know the risks involved with rooting and loading custom roms, and worst case scenario all you have to do is have insurance for that phone so if you hose you can always get another phone.
If this is indeed true, I have a tendency to believe that T-Mobile is the one requesting locked bootloaders (and not Samsung, as they led us to believe for the S7) and that most of their phones will have locked bootloaders from this point forward. Unfortunately the "uncarrier" isn't so "uncarrier" anymore and we will now rely on OEMs to provide an unlocking method. Luckily, HTC already has a set-in-place unlocking method so even if the HTC 10 comes with a locked bootloader, as I now suspect it will, there shouldn't be any reason we can't get it S-OFF/unlocked.
T-Mobile is slowly switching back to the ways of it's evil step-brothers, ATT & VZW.

Yes, HTC has had simple process you can use to unlock your bootloader for some time now, I think since the original HTC One... I did this with my M8. Getting S-OFF is another story, you have to buy an app called Sunshine....which is well worth it considering the work the devs put in to accomplish this.
But every LG device has a locked bootloader that have to unlock via adb if it's not truly locked down. I wonder if he doesn't know that. Hopefully he is just uninformed but T-Mobile is getting cocky now that they're making good money.

And that is the big question.... is it locked as in "cannot be unlocked by the user" or is it locked as in "all you have to do is type Fastboot OEM Unlock" and you're home free?
It's locked cause it has more enterprise security than Samsung phones. It was accepted by the NSA.

You have to buy international variant and you are sure will be released from LG official bootloader unlock solution as it was for G4...
Grab it from handtech.co.uk store
It looks like it's an 820 thing. Qualcomm is driving this. T-Mo is already working on an approved unlock from Samsung for the S7 and S7e.
Disappointed to hear the latest news, but I would be happy enough to get root (most of the G4s with locked bootloaders have root at least). Hopefully all is not lost!
Has anyone with their device in hand actually confirmed this? I've got mine in hand and don't wanna brick anything by trying to run fastboot oem unlock on it...
Update: In developer options there's an enable OEM Unlock.. Dare I try it?
Update 2: I tried to fastboot oem unlock it.. Get a message at boot complaining about not being able to check for corruption. But it booted.

a) enable developer options (Settings in ROM)
check to see if there is a "Enable OEM unlock" option
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/11/0...nable-oem-unlock-option-in-developer-options/
b) reboot into bootloader/fastboot (turn phone fully off... then hold volume up+power, or volume down+power)
there should be a screen (serial number, ROM build number etc)... provide photo of screen
it usually tells you whether bootloader is locked or unlocked
*WARNING: unlocking bootloader may void your warranty

There definitely was an Enable OEM Unlock options in developer options. So I enabled it..
Rebooted into fastboot (Hold volume down and then insert usb cable while phone is off) and ran the fastboot oem unlock just as shown above in the screen cap. Unfortunately when I try to get the status now, it doesn't say unlocked or locked. It's empty (see screenshot)
Fastboot now says the exact following:
---------------------------------------------
*Welcome to Fastboot Mode :
*HOW TO exit fastboot mode
1. Press the Power button for 10 secs to turn off the device
2. Use 'fastboot reboot' command if the fastboot is avaible
---------------------------------------
On reboot a yellow caution sign comes up and says
"Your device cannot be checked for software corruption"
Okay so I just got a replacement on my Verizon Google pixel and after everything was setup I noticed that in the developer options it gave me the option to unlock my Bootloader. I know the Verizon models are locked and after 7.1 the exploit was patched. I have all the Verizon bloatware so is this just a bug or is it possible? I turned off all automatic updates just in case so should I go ahead and try?

If you want to try unlocking your bootloader go for it. But there's not much benefit to unlocking your bootloader unless you plan to root or flash a custom rom or custom kernel or something. Simply unlocking the bootloader but otherwise staying fully stock will not allow your phone to pass safety net so you won't be able to use Android Pay. There have been a few other posts from Verizon customers where they got phones with the option to unlock the bootloader enabled so you probably just got lucky.

If it was shipped from Carol Stream, Illinois and if you pop in your SIM and the Verizon website calls it a non-VZW phone., then you got a Google Edition. Since OEM unlocking is not grayed out on yours, it's almost for certain a Google Edition. Same happened to me, the bloatware came when the Verizon SIM was inserted.
I agree with the above jhs39 post, though, only do it if you have a reason. I wanted the Pure Nexus ROM and ViPER4Android so I did it.

If you plan on flashing custom in the future then I would unlock now so you don't have to lose all you're data later. Rather wipe while it's new and doesn't have months of data on it.
You never know when you might get screwed over by an update and or want to flash back a version.
I say unlock to give yourself a few more exit strategies should anything go wrong and if you decide to root and rom at some point later you aren't gonna wipe your device.
If you want to pass safety net for android pay you just need to flash a custom kernel.

That's true. But if you use Android Pay or any other apps that require safety net they will stop working unless you flash a custom kernel. If that doesn't matter to you then you should unlock the bootloader while you can.
Hey guys, I'm super excited to get my new LG G8 tonight, with all of the incentives Sprint is offering me it'll cost just over $300!
However, the previous LG phones that I've had (G4 and G5) were absolute trainwrecks when it came to software, and the G8 doesn't seem to be too different. I'm hoping that eventually we will be able to root it, if not install a Project Treble AOSP build.
How likely is this? Can we get a bootloader bounty going? Heck, I'd be happy with just root and Magisk

The good news on the T-Mobile variant is the "Enable OEM Unlock" is present and not greyed out. The bad news is I am unable to get into the bootloader either through command or even with the volume up+power while turning the phone on. It looks like the T-Mobile variant has the bootloader locked out unless if I'm missing something here.
Edit: Even holding down then plugging in my USB-C cable doesn't get the bootloader to kick in. Up then plugging in however does get me to download mode. I can get into recovery but can't get the dang thing to do anything other than display the broken Android logo and can't even get the typical recovery stuff to pop up. Says "no command" below the broke Android logo.

Yes and it simply reboots the phone. Does not go to the bootloader at all. Not a dumb question by the way. Pretty good to ask.

I suspect that's the case with the T-Mobile variant. I wouldn't be shocked if there's a backdoor method found to getting fastboot to work on such variants as I can still get into download mode easily along with recovery. So I'm sure there's a way to use either one of these to getting fastboot to work.

Someone has a engineering bootloader that allows you to unlock bootloader working on the g7 andv40 and v35 mabye works on g8 you need to use jtag from octoplus though.
Any other info yet?
Verizon
LM-G820UM
I'm pretty sure they'll update their Bootloader Unlock Key page in the next few weeks and add the G8(S) to the list of supported devices.
The unlocked G8S at least boots into Fastboot and also explicitly describes and explains how to unlock the bootloader. So there's that.

I tried your "Up then plugging in" method and got to the download mode and a screen that said "Firmware Update" But from there, I couldn't get into anywhere else - no Recovery, and no broken Android logo. How did you get into the recovery mode. I would like to try that on my unlocked version of the G8

It's volume down and plugging in the cable. What @AngryManMLS edited in as well.
If your device is unlockable it should lead you to fastboot mode with (more or less) detailed instructions on how to unlock the bootloader.
I "only" own a G8s but it should be the same for the other variants.

Thanks. It didn't work on mine. I have a carrier unlocked version that I got from Amazon - $350 discount on Prime Day. (It's an LM-G820QM model with no digital assistant key and the Alexa apps added.) All I get when when using the volume down key (even with plugging in the cable afterwards) is the attached Factory Reset screen... I cannot get to the screens AngryMan saw.
I have an LM-G820QM unlocked I got from a bestbuy a couple weeks after launch. I can use adb reboot bootloader to get into fastboot. I followed the instructions on the LG bootloader unlock page. I got the device ID and IMEI put in and it told me my device doesn't support bootloader unlocking or some nonsense. I was pretty disappointed because I thought buying the unlocked variant it would be unlockable by LG. I seem to be the only person with this vairant here so if I can help the effort in any way, please let me know.
Hello all, this is a quick and simple guide to unlocking your T-Mobile locked bootloader. Just a reminder: unlocking the bootloader will wipe your data. The instructions here will apply to all T-Mobile OnePlus devices.
Unlock your SIM. Some options here
Finding a sympathetic rep to unlock your device. I used the I'm a developer and need the device unlocked for work purposes and took 2 agents before I got mine unlocked.
Finding an awesome XDAer who has the capability to do it, such as https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ng-service-oneplus-samsung-google-lg.4231597/ (never used this service, just an example but he seems active and still unlocking)
Paying a (trusted) 3rd party service. I never used them, YMMV
T-Mobile's official policy of waiting 40 days and paying off any balance on an EIP.
Toggle OEM Unlocking in Developer Options.
Jot down your IMEI with *#06#
Reboot the device to bootloader. You can do this via ADB or advanced reboot options in Developer Options.
On a computer with latest fastboot and OnePlus drivers installed, run:
Code:
fastboot oem get_unlock_code
Fill out the unlock application on OP's site: https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token You should have all the necessary information to fill it out now.
Wait for the unlock application to be processed. It can take up to 2 weeks, or even longer on a new device. You can enjoy your still-locked OP9P for now.
Once the unlock application is processed, download the unlock file from the unlock site above, save it (as an example, I saved it as unlock.bin)
With your device in bootloader again, run:
Code:
fastboot flash cust-unlock [path/to/unlock.bin]
In my example, from the CWD as the unlock.bin file, I would run
Code:
fastboot flash cust-unlock unlock.bin
Unlock your bootloader with the command:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Congrats, your OnePlus device should now be unlocked!
I don't know if I been really unlucky or what, so far I have tried over the phone, chat, twitter, and local store without any results so far. Feels bad
I was able to get it unlocked via T-Mobiles twitter support on one try, Maybe because I payed off half the device already . Keep trying
Just keep trying, sometimes you get really unlucky. I have made $0 payment so far and had it unlocked on the first day I took it home. The store won't be able to help though. I used phone(8T) / facebook(9pro), twitter should be the same team as facebook and these are your best bets.

Just bought my OP9 Pro this am from T-mobile. Bought it on a promo so they were hesitant to unlock the device but I told them I was an Android Dev and travel world wide and not only did he not make me pay it off to unlock it he refused to take my money and whitelisted my phone before even activating it. So to their point above or below, keep trying and you will get someone nice. Or change your story. Up to you
They gave me a temporary unlock but I still can't toggle the oem unlocking button its greyed out. Am I doing something wrong.

Both of you have made statements that sound like you are talking about SIM unlocking. This is bootloader unlocking and is not related. T-Mobile support isn't there for you to unlock your bootloader and yes they will grant a temporary sim unlock if you need it.

Temporary unlock doesn't work, must be permanent. If you are really unlucky with support, try #2, he's active and currently unlocking 9 series.

Read OP, permanent SIM unlock must be acquired before OEM Unlocking is available (or we are waiting for an exploit). Temp unlock does nothing in the context of getting the BL unlocked.

Oh Geeze. I hadn't looked too closely yet as I just got the phone yesterday. But there goes one of the key reasons for getting the One Plus over the S21 lol. It's on a Sprint account and they couldn't activate it with the T-Mobile sim (according to the rep) so that 1 guy can't help. Geeze. Makes me miss the days of affordable flagships you could buy outright easy.
I was excited to be back in the scene but it might have to wait until later when I have more of a reason for it.

You can just put a tmobile sim in a Sprint branded phone, it'll be fine. Go to a tmobile store and ask for tnx sim if you have everything paid off. Otherwise call sprint and get a tnx sim.
So I know this isn't the proper place but wanted to ask some opinions or maybe somebody can point me in the right place if needed got T-Mobile's OnePlus 9 didn't want purple box said silver opened it up yep it's purple!! Rep didn't know what to do so I took it home I'm going back thinking of switching to the pro but $75 I think restocking fee is it worth switching to the 9 pro. Any info and possibly reason to switch outside of purple would be appreciated thank you
Depends on what you use your phone for. You can look up the differences. Personally, the regular OnePlus 9 should be ok and you'd be better off waiting for the upcoming series before upgrading, but that's just a recommendation.
Hey guys, just wanting to make sure I understand the process. I haven't been rooting or unlocking a bootloader since android introduced their different pay apps and all major carriers started locking their bootloaders. So the OP post says you need to attain an unlocked sim to be able to get the unlock iem option. So then it would be needed for t-mobile devices that were purchased from one plus, right?

Hello,
There are currently cheap 9 Pros on Aliexpress, but they are Global versions LE2127.
I've searched the forum and found a thread to convert a LE2127 to LE2125 EU. Is there such a guide for converting to Global instead?
I intend to stay on Android 11 using the Jaguar rom.
Thanks

You can use the conversion tool to go to Eu and flash the modem back in and stay connected fine. Or you can flash global.
They're not real horror stories because we have msm tool available and can (almost) always get back to working devices with that. I stay on oos11 EU and flashed the modem back in, everything works. I do have a modem crash issue when I get download speeds over 500mbps on 5G but I rarely use 5G anyway.
Since you're going custom rom, it may depend on what it was built on, whether or not you would need to flash modem back in. Regardless of that possibility, it is fixable and do-over-able

Thanks for the reply!
Didn't the modem have unique information that if overwritten would render it useless?
From what I've read, I'll need to contact OnePlus to unlock the bootloader of that phone, even though it's coming direct from China with a Global (non TMO) rom.
Once I get clarification on that I shall jump ship and order it!
Reply from seller:
Thanks for your message. It is LE2127,hope you could understand. If there is any other question , feel free to contact us. Wish you have a sweet day. Best wishes, Inma
Dear customer, Thanks for your message. the phone comes with OxygenOS based on Android 11. and no need to contact oneplus to unlock bootloader any other question, feel free to contact us.
Is it possible an LE2127 not require contacting OnePlus for unlocking the bootloader?

Modemst1/2 do have unique information. Modem_a can be shared. Modem_a/b is different from modemst1/2 and modem_a/b is the one in question for this device.
However, you should back up modemst1/2 and efs/persist anyway because then you really have nothing to fear if something goes wrong.
As of right now, while in oos11, it's already possible to unlock the bootloader of the le2127 without contacting OnePlus or t-mobile. By converting to EU, while on oos11, you can bypass the OnePlus+Tmobile bootloader token requirement and unlock the bootloader.
It sounds like they are already on global anyway.
What I did may give you peace of mind also:
Rebooted my device into edl mode with msm tool open and took backups of partitions I wanted (modemst1/2 efs/persist and boot)
Used One+TooL to make OEM Unlock toggle available in developer settings. (This was needed because I was not sim unlocked at the time. The tool or adb can be used to bypass that and make the toggle visible)
Got my bootloader token in fastboot and submitted it to OnePlus website. I know it takes a week (I've since heard it is faster using support chat or email and the automatic tool is providing wrong unlock bins).
Knowing I will be waiting a week, I did the Tmo->EU conversion, unlocked my bootloader, rooted using the boot.img I made a backup of, flashed my modem_a (not modemst1/2) back in and set everything up. Staying on oos11, this is no problem. Updating to oos12/13 after the conversion, you will need the unlock token again. As I understand it, the unlock token bypass is only present in oos11 so it's advised to do it then.
This is the furthest you'd need to go most likely, you can go from Eu to global. The connectivity issues I've read, seem to come for those who upgrade Eu to the latest versions of oos13. They solve it by going to Global instead.
(A week later I received my unlock.bin from OnePlus. I used the regular Tmo msm tool to go back to stock Tmo. Verified my bootloader unlock token worked in stock form and it did. I unlocked it, rooted again, and set up https monitoring to see the exchange happening during sim unlock. Then I requested my sim unlock and eventually found someone not dumb to help me out. I logged the request I was interested in and went back to Eu again, rooted/unlocked bootloader again, flashed my modem_a again and have been here ever since)
I can't speak for custom roms or oos13 but I can say for sure that on OOS11, it is possible to bypass the sim unlock requirement for bootloader, possible to unlock the bootloader without the token, it is possible to have unlocked bootloader, root/magisk and retain L1 DRM for netflix/disney+, google pay works, android auto works and I'm showing up as device certified in play store. So long as you install the appropriate magisk modules of course.
The LE2127 is a lil bit different than the others but it's definitely not a nightmare or very risky if you take precautions. Take backups of your partitions, keep the msm tools handy and you'll be just fine. Every one of us who have done any flashing on xda, have had to redo or start over at some point on some device. Luckily, there are a lot of us in this section that have the le2127 to help ease your mind and assure you that it's gonna be ok. We have been blessed by a few guys who did the hard work before us and figured out the bypasses and fixes to various issues.
Since this phone is currently the last OnePlus device to have real MSM tool and custom rom development, it's looking real good to be a 9P owner. This phone has a lot of good hardware, specs, options and support. I think you've done good to research beforehand. I think you'll be happy with the device when you get it set up how you want it also.
For taking backups in the msm tool, you put your phone into edl mode and connect it with msm tool open, press F8. That will bring up a list of partitions you can backup. Select the ones you want (especially modemst1 and persist), type the password "oneplus" and press readback. It will save the partitions to C:\. I suggest making a backup of the backups but I'm extra cautious. Don't sweat it tho, you'll be fine with le2127

Wow..thank you for the detailed response!
You are correct that they are already on Global!
I found a deal too good to be true yesterday on Ebay: 9 Pro brand new Global version US Version for 175$USD. I pulled the trigger without thinking. That one might be a LE2127. Seller has decent feedback so who knows:
OnePlus 9 Pro 5G Global Version Smartphone 12GB RAM 256GB ROM NFC Mobile Phone | eBay
Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for OnePlus 9 Pro 5G Global Version Smartphone 12GB RAM 256GB ROM NFC Mobile Phone at the best online prices at eBay! Free shipping for many products!
www.ebay.com
Before that happened, I also contacted the 3 sellers on Aliexpress that are selling some 9 Pros.: OPPO store, OnePlusStore and HWMall. The first 2 said they only have LE2127, which is why I had asked here.
The third one replied yesterday evening and confirmed he has LE2125s. Pulled the trigger on that one too (in case ebay is a scam).
Let's see what ends up in my hands!
Thanks again, I am now less worried about getting a LE2127 if that ends up being the case
