What rom should i use? - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello you fine people. My TAB 3 10.1 inch is sitting unused for many reasons. 1: stock rom is lacking in app support and audio playback from youtube has weird glitches and the video lags. 2: most of the custom roms are not that good on my tablet having slow performance and so on. and the list goes forever. i wanna know that is there any rom for the santos10LTE thats good on performance and battery life. i whould prefer android 6 or newer. the stock rom is the best bet of usability on my TAB 3 4G but you aldready know... any suggestions to somehow breath some life back in to this thing?

Note 2 root?

I had a captiva, and rooted it and constantly played with it (changing roms / themes etc., I mean I must have flashed different ROMs 2-3 times a week). Had a blast, became a hobby. Got the Note 2 last November, and am toying with rooting that also. However, my question is will I lose S pen functionality, and other touch wiz features. And, are there a lot of roms out there like the Captiva had, and themes?
Ive read that some say not to root as the phone is fine as is. This phone is a beast unto itself, but I am starting to have issues, like hitting the back button and nothing happens. When I go to contacts and scroll down, it speeds up and seems to scroll by itself, then goes back to the top.
Appreciate any input.
Thanks.
I find that cm and non touchwiz ROMs don't have the same battery life as touchwiz does, anything that is non touchwiz you will loose s pen features and the touchwiz features as well. Best way to find out is to root and rom you phone and mod it to Ur taste. Not everyone will have the same expirience so best to try yourself,

But you can use apps from the market as replacement for s-note, etc. The pen will work in EVERY rom.
As ranger stated. .spen features are fully functional in any rom for this device using the proper apps and settings. .
Regarding battery life on AOSP/AOKP....I will disagree that equal or better battery life cannot be obtained over TW roms...
My current AOSP setup produces 10-12% better battery life than the stock touchwiz bloated rom. ..(latest UCAMH3)...And performance is noticeably improved using an OS roughly 1/4 the size of stock builds. .
Anyone claiming poor battery life using current AOSP builds may want to rethink the settings being used. ..
Late generation AOSP is fast and stable. ..leaving the user wanting nothing including spen when running the device properly. ..
Leave overclock alone. ..leave voltage changes alone. ..and leave the GPU alone. ...After all. ..it's a note 2 quad. ...not a Ferrari. ..
TW builds that are stripped and chipped will be excellent performance based builds. ..but again. ...After you strip a stock build down. ..your only an inch away from AOSP anyway. ...g

[Q] Stock 2.3.6 vs Custom ROMs

I bought my Galaxy W and instantly started modding it, currently I'm on Arco's CyanogenMod 9 EOL, I didn't have much experience with the stock ROM you actually get with the phone, Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4 UX.
My question is, is the stock ROM the most stable ROM with the best battery life you can get?
I would like to have some basic info like how smooth it is, the battery life, usability compared to the later CyanogenMod ROMs. I'd like to know whether its actually the best option except being kind of out of date now.
Thank you in advance :good:

From what I know the stock rom is better at keeping the battery use low during standby but i don't know whether that's true

I think that's true..
cause some Custom ROM come with some tweaks, some can keep the processor running low during standby. some also have some kind of better ram management.
Also if you want, you also can try some other kernel. cause some can even make longer battery life
switched for a tweaked stock 2.3.6 to a custom ICS and never looked back, the performance is just much better
I would say that my battery lasts longer with a custom rom. On stock sometimes it suddenly went off.
Currently I'm fine with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2214042. And the camera isn't green.

Is there any downside to using CM12 over TouchWiz?

So I bought this tablet a few days ago and was very disappointed with the lag especially in all the browsers.
Is there any negatives to installing CM11 or 12?
Is battery life better or worse?
What features do I lose?
Does it affect 3g/4g reception (Australia)
Also does iron rom get rid of lag? And does it affect battery life?
I use the tablet for work and the main apps I use for work is the browser, email app, camera app and gallery app.
Only things I've done to this tablet is rooted to get app settings from xposed and greenify.
I was wondering about some of what you asked also. I noticed the annoying lag/stuttering in web browsers using the stock firmware.
Negatives installing cm12- Lowers chances of getting defective hardware fixed on your tablet. If your tablet works fine then your good.
Battery- Battery does get better.. Probably not much but it does. See my screenshot. But standy battery times is amazing!
Features you lose- samsung stuffs. Ex, multiwindow, fingerprint scanner and more.
3g connection- Cm12 does not work on LTE devices and only wifi models.
Iron rom- No lag or its smoother in my opinion.
Iron rom battery life- Its awesome! You can tweak the kernel settings for more battery life without decreasing performance.
Screen shots of battery on cm12. I own the SMT800. White background=cm12 Iron rom= Blue background
Using the stock rom, I found that if I disabled the Javascript in the browser it is much smoother scrolling. Although that causes problems for some websites. If I keep the tablet I'll probably end up trying one of the custom roms. My tablet is refurbished for a good price, but it looks brand new.

Haha. Thanks for your opinion
I've been looking into this as well since the "recommended" setting for pubg was medium...anyway i'll be talking outta my ass here.
i'll be comparing performance for older title like world of tank blitz and world of warship blitz that i set all the settings to max.
for older roms like sultan, fos and 3rd party rom rr, los ect....i really don't see any differences. they heat up the same, battery drain almost the same, about same fps(~50) ect. however, for 3rd party roms, they do give better features like build in tasker that can kill all other apps when you launch the game(which you can do by getting the real tasker for oos based rom).
do note that i did not purposely change the kernel, , i just follow the instruction and get the recommended kernel and add-on pack.
i did not try all the roms for op3 for obvious reasons, but i do notice pure oos based rom are little better than 3rd party, but only like 2-5fps increase. even so, it's also possible for stuff like viper4andriod, dolby mod ect that cause performance issue.
so the rom itself doesn't really contribute to better gaming, they are all fine(aside from certain buggy as hell roms).
BUT there is something you can do to increase gaming power on the op3. changing scheduler decrease lag a little, playing without case dissipate heat better, putting some thermal pad IN the phone(placebo maybe) does somewhat make it stable during long gaming. just my personal experience, no data to back it up.
p.s-don't water cooled the op3, that's how my screen came off.
tl;dr-all rom are equal for gaming.

ROM suggestions for HTC ONE M9

Hi everyone,
I just got a HTC ONE M9, as my Redmi Note 4 broke. Can you guys please recommend best stable and high performing roms for this device?
I know I might get some flak for being a noob and lazy, but I did try LOS 16 (since I adore stock Android ) and Stock Deodexed rom, but LOS lags a lot and Stock rom looks outdated .
Thanks in advance

I won't give ya any flak for asking the rom question...
The truth is.....nobody can answer that question with any degree of accuracy because we all like different things.
LOS16 is the latest firmware we have...with AICP as well. And bear in mind that our M9's are ancient by today's phone standards.
Lag is just plain going to happen....but...
You can adjust the cores and optimize the experience which generally offers a good improvement.
And I may get flak for this....but if you are running apps like Facebook and instagram and many others....I can tell you that lag will be worse.
Apps like these are memory hogs that eat battery like crazy.
A lean and stripped down LOS 16 flash is fast and smooth.
Give it another try...and use the browser for Facebook and such instead of loading the apps.
It makes a huge difference for me....g

Thanks a lot, mate LOS developer is probably going to change CPU governor settings in next build, as some other people reported it lagging too in this build, so will give it another try. It just can't get any better than stock android.
