Guys. Wondering if anyone has the same issue ?
I have organized the apps in my app Drawer into folders.... however after I restarted the phone.. the app Drawer does not memorized it... all the apps that I put into folder now no longer organized... however the folders are still there , just with out the apps...
I tried this on both mine and my wife ...
In my app drawer I put all of att apps in a folder. Then I restarted the phone. The folder is still there with all the apps in it. I do know, if an app get updated, sometimes they move out of any folders. Recently my note4 did go though a bunch of app updates, do you think this is what may have happened?
app drawer bug
I checked mine.. some of the apps are in folder but some other folders become empty with no apps in it.... this didnot happen with my note2 eventhough there is app update..
Happened to me as well. I found a reasonable workaround though: in the app drawer, open the settings menu, select Sort By and then select Custom (not aplhabetical). This fixed the problem for me.
Thanks i will give it a try
It does not work. My apps still come out from the folder...
I'm having the same issue. In addition, some TouchWiz settings are not sticking through reboots. It's starting to become really, really annoying... I shouldn't have to reorganize 80+ apps every time I reboot the phone. I've already done a factory reset, tried clearing data on the launcher, and neither have worked.
I hope there is an update to fix this soon... i am surprised we are not seeing much feedback on this..

Seriously just got the "note4" and this happened to me as well.
We need help please fix this bug. .
I went back to using Nova Launcher Prime. No more issue.
My wife's phone also suffers from this. It is a rather annoying problem made even worse by the fact that I have to listen to her complain to me about it numerous times.

Darn, was hoping to give TouchWiz a fair shot before I replaced it, but with this and a few other glitches, I'm going to switch to Nova also until it gets a few bug fix updates.
Smart Launcher here. I like simplicity and it groups apps into categories for you. You can edit and add of course.
Fire OS 4.6.1 on unlocked GSM 32gig Fire Phone
Notable changes,
Finally we have native wallpaper support
Different slightly improved lock screen notifications
Smart dialer
Ability to switch default SMS/MMS and Keyboard apps
New Dev. Options
Ability to force quit and(or) Disable bloatware apps
Widgets seem to be working well
More detailed settings for Low Motion/Dynamic perspective(specifically for lockscreen, homescreen, and maps)
Google maps is now seemingly 100% functional
Ability to toggle switch cellular data(2g,3g,LTE)
Google Play and GAPPs still working well
Also we now have a bluetooth keyboard config. in our settings
New Emoticons
Status bar is semi-transparent and looks really nice despite lack of persistent icon notifications
Addition of print services pack(HP, Canon, Epson)
Updated Sounds and Notifications settings(
Things that sadly remained the same
No status bar notifications
Cannot individually clear calls or messages from carousel
Still not native android
Notifications seem hit and miss as usual
No Graphical updates or graphical setting in stock message or dialer apps
Camera seems to be the same and I'm still having having better luck with the google camera
App drawer functions the same(new options in app info though)
Overall function of the O.S. seems to improve a lot. Smooth scrolling through the carousel, less if not no lag at all on sleep/wake, and just all in all more pleasing to look at.
I updated manually by downloading the .bin and moving it to the home folder and searching for update with wifi/data off, and because of that I am unsure if the new att bloatware apps were part of the update due to my carrier or if they were packaged inside the update bin which was a shocking 1.3gb. Even though I am fairly certain that those apps are my fault in the first place I feel the need to warn that the U.S. att .bin file could have that affect and unlocked users may want to wait for the OTA just to play it safe. There is however a great guide on here explaining the process and linking quite a few files(for those who can't wait).
**This did work for me however if it does not work for you I am not at fault, sideload at your own risk**
Feel free to add what you find I know I missed a few things but since there is no apparent changelog from amazon I figured I'd try to compile a small unofficial changelog of sorts.
Tried Towelroot Its been hung at the towelroot screen with a highlighted "make it rain" button for about ten mins... I'm going to leave it running for a while and see if anything happens but I'm assuming its still a no go.
I've seen issues regarding call audio, google services and a few other things but I personally haven't been able to recreate them and fortunately haven't had them in the first place.
Camera seems faster in taking photos for me. Also there is an auto HDR setting, before it was either on or off.

So, matsnackson do you think that is better to install (sideload) the Google-Camera APP, and used it instead of the default Amazon Camera APP?
Could you please, let us know what differences or improvements do you have noticed, if you use the Google Camara APP instead of the Amazon one?
Notable changes
- Chooseable colors for mail accounts and calendars, but there aren't too much colors to choose to.
Things that sadly remained the same
- Shared Google calendars won't show up in the/any calendar app, that's very very annoying

I second your opinion as I have not been able to conect my LG G watch to Fire phone with 4.6.1.
Also sideloding Google play services and play store worked fine for few minutes after which the play services auto updates when I install google search and now from Playstore.
After this any sideloaded google apps start hanging with white screen and circle clock running. Uninstall and install after factory resets also did not help.

I've been using the stock camera app for a few days and it seems to be better than I first thought but I still prefer the google camera app, but at this point it seems to be my personal preference... I really just feel more comfortable with the google camera app.(long time nexus user)
I have seen quite a few people with the google play issues and I tried removing then reloading google services and google play but i havent had any issues the only advice i can give is to remove and try again making sure to pay close attention to the order you install the packages(there is a specific order, and a few great guides on here)
The LG watch seems to be common issue as well but I don’t have one to test with, I'll look into buying one and see what I can do. Until then the only advice I have is to unpair the watch and your phone and reboot before attemting to repair the two. Good luck and sorry.

I'll third this. I feel like Amazon is intentionally crippling Google services, and I've already ordered a replacement phone.
These are services that run fine on what, 99% of Android phones?

Honestly I don't think this is intentionally being done by either side, we run an outdated version of android so naturally were going to see at least a few compatibility issues, have you tried a factory reset and full reload of play services in order? Also be patient with 4.6.1 from everything I've read its not technically official on the unlocked phones yet.

I'm looking forward to the update. I feel changing your keyboard is a few months late, but I'd be happy to finally have swiftkey back. I'm running an unlocked Fire Phone with 3.6.8. Amazon doesn't even acknowledge a new update on their Fire Phone update page. Perhaps it's in some sort of beta as they harvest data before making it official?

Thanks. Had to uninstall updates to Google app, and then re-updated.
Inexplicable autonomous app update behavior when plugged in & wifi on. A real puzzle.
Facts:
1) Two phones, Pixel 3 and 3 XL, latest patches. Both rooted, running ElementalX and Magisk. Both have same apps installed and settings.
2) Playstore "Auto-update" is disabled, set to "Don't auto-update apps".
3) Play Protect is fully disabled.
4) TiBu has no scheduled jobs
5) No threat/system scanner running
Behavior background:
1) Started noticing a few months ago (so not a patch update issue).
2) Happens only when phone is charging and wifi on (I have wifi set to turn on when plugged in, I have not isolated whether it is caused by one or the other, or both).
3) Seems to happen around/between 10:20 PM and 11:20 PM PST, based on file timestamp.
4) Does not happen every night. I charge the phone (therefore wifi turns on during charge) every night). I have not been able to find a pattern.
The strange behavior I cannot explain:
1) When it happens, a few (can be 1, 2, or 5) apps are found to have been updated on their own.
2) However, these apps are not shown updated in the Playstore and their version remained the same.
3) When I go to data/app, these apps look like they are updated based on time/date stamp (from the night before).
4) However, their version number has not changed, Playstore does not show a recent update.
5) It does not matter when the app was last truly updated or installed. Even disabled app will get this "ghost re-install/update". Apps seem to be picked randomly.
In sum, I find a few apps that get randomly self-updated, but they were really not updated. The version has changed and Playstore does not know anything about it (not on update list). Also, version has not changed. In fact, though, their timestamp show that it was updated.
Here is the kicker--I see the behavior in both phones. AND, they are the same (at least about the same list of) apps that get the "ghost update". If I don't plug in one phone to charge (and wifi not on), that phone does not get the update until the next time it is plugged in.
W-T-F???
What are the apps? Is it always the same ones?
Seemingly random apps, both user-installed and system (e.g., Chrome, Data Transfer Tool). I have not been able to detect a pattern on which app gets this ghost update. I started noticing this late December, best guess.
I almost don't want to even bring this issue back up since I haven't noticed it in a couple of months. I was noticing it a lot on all 6 of my devices (including Pixel 3XL and Pixel 3) because I would go to Titanium Backup and see apps showing as due for backup of a new version. Nothing showed in Play Store, and the App description on Play showed the same version as before with the old last updated date. Either they have fixed it or hidden it better, but it seamed to be some sort of security patch at an app level. Here are a couple of old threads including my Google thread and a couple of reddit threads. I still have an open support case on it, but since it stopped happening and different folks at Google kept ignoring my replies to the man suggesting stupid-a$$ things (like factory resetting my devices and signing off and on with a new user on different devices) I just dropped it.
P.S. I never did notice the plugged in thing, but that is not to say it wasn't happening. I was asleep when it happened as far as I know.

Many thanks for the links. This is exactly what I am seeing. One of the posts in the link described the install as exact same apk and version. It is also what I see. It still does not explain what is going on behind the scenes, but at least it is good to know that I am not the only one seeing this. For most people, they are not aware. I see it because I use a backup app for newly installed apps. As such, everytime an app installed or updated, I get a notification.

No problem. I do wonder if your devices are new. As I mentioned, I have not seen this behavior in months on any of my devices. I do think it was an in place Google side security patch to the actual app installer or something that they can control from Play without modifying the app code itself, and if yours have not been modified yet it will catch up when it finishes all of the apps that need it.

Both of my devices were pre-order (from last year) and were activated as soon as I received them. Some of the newer apps that were updated this way were newer, like Pixel Tips and Data Transfer Tool. Apps like SmartThings, Lutron, and Pushover were recently updated normally through Playstore, but they were ghost updated a few days ago. If the theory were true, on these basis, it is unclear why Google would need to/want to update/re-update the apps this way.

Well the fact that your devices are a hair older than mine (I got my 3XL and 3 very shortly after public release) does quash that argument. The one thing I can think of that is still different is the detection method each of us has used. TB has been updated a few times in the past couple of months to start, and even if not Google could still be making changes that are not seen by TB. What backup app/notification process are you using?
Are these all Google apps or services? Many of them update outside of the app store on their own.

Two apps I use that tells me when an app was installed/updated:
App Monster Pro ** "old version" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.think_android.apps.appmonster.cloud
The current PS version, based on reviews, does not do what the old version does. The old version, which I continue to use, and works well, will make a backup of the installed apk any time an app is updated or installed. I can decide the number of revisions to keep. This allows me to roll back if I need to. The most helpful part, as it turns out, is knowing when an app is updated--even Playstore or other non-Playstore-installed apps will spawn a notification. The backup is in a plain apk, which makes it easy to transport and share.
The other tool is My Android Tools Pro -- https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-android-toolspro-one-fav-apps-t3262150
This app allows me to cut off broadcast receivers, disable services, manifest apk activities and content providers. It also includes a logcat viewer, process explorers, and more. Root is required. This app refined over time but was taken off of the Playstore. It does not appear to be maintained anymore, but still works well. I sort the app list based on newly installed apps and it clearly shows me what was truly and recently installed. I use the app to cut off broadcast receivers and services that relate to app measurement, install referrer, etc. For some apps, I cut off the startup receiver. They help to keep occasionally used apps from launching needlessly. Other may have opinions, but these methods work well for me.
Lastly, I used Root Explorer to verify the app install dates (per post 1).

Starting to look more and more like Google is still making changes in the background but it is not being detected by any current backup apps. Since the two you were using have either been deprecated or abandoned, it's hard to say if Google has actually changed what was being updated or just the possibility of detection. Short of someone getting into the app code for a hard comparison between pre/post versions (beyond my skill set for sure), my guess is this is going to go unanswered since Google is clearly still making changes but not releasing the "why" or "what."

I agree. What I can say with certainty is that those apps were at least "reinstalled" because of the folder/file dates. Also, my two phones are seeing the same apps being updated. This suggests that there are some logic behind it.

I am not using the FSTRIM app, and the fact that eventually all of the same apps (6 devices on various Android versions) would end up getting updated but not all apps makes it unlikely that native trimming is causing it.
The thread title says it all. This is driving me absolutely insane. On reboot, probably about 70% to 80% of the time, OnePlus launcher gets magically put on default status over Nova on reboot. The same problem would occasionally happen on my 8 Pro as well, but it happens more frequently on my 9 Pro.
Of course I have set Nova as default launcher under the settings menu. This simply does not stick on reboot the majority of the time for some reason. I've tried everything, even moving Nova APK to system app folder. OnePlus launcher sucks so bad. I even tried freezing the OnePlus launcher, but it screwed up my gesture navigation, so I unfroze it.
I'm not sure what's causing this bug, but if anyone knows how to fix it would do cartwheels of joy.
Unfortunately I've had this same issue since my OnePlus 5T. It's likely an Oxygen OS thing cause I never had this issue when I used a custom ROM on my 5T or 6T. I haven't been able to find a fix for this on Oxygen OS though
I've have this occasionally, not often though. I usually set OnePlus launcher as default, then go back into settings and change it back to Nova. Holds for me through many reboots or sometimes if I flash something in Magisk.
I have no fix, but it happens on Pixel 4a android 11 roms too. Not on my Pixel 3, or 3a. Weird.
I've had this issue 3 or 4 times so far. The frustrating part is after it forgets default launcher I can't get it to stick again. When I go to default apps and select Nova, it just goes back to None & home takes me to OnePlus launcher. I always manage to fix it but never in a consistent way.
After setting nova launcher as default, also turn off battery optimization for nova launcher. This is my 3rd OP phone, and i didn't face this issue as you guys
Happened to me too.
I just once selected one launcher as standard, then Nova again.
And it stuck.

That happened to me only once on my 8 Pro. Did the same thing and never had the problem. It ha snot happened with my 9 Pro.
Run Nova on two 9 Pros without this issue, what version are you running? Have you moved on to Nova7?
I would check under Settings>Apps and notifications>App Permissions and also Special app access and ensure you've given Nova everything it's asking for. As above, try turning off battery optimisation for Nova too.
Also, obviously, check under Settings>Apps and notifications>Default apps and ensure Nova is listed as the "Home App"
I haven't had this issue since jumping to the latest Nova7.

I think I figured out what's causing my issue! I had an app installed called 'screen balance', that draws over other apps. It changes the tint/white balance of the screen. Man, with it on, the screen looks so much better. But I guess I'm forced to keep it off for now.
This started happening to me about a week ago (august 15), and since this is a "kind of old" thread I don't know what your problem was, but in my case I tracked it down to an update of:
* Device Health Services
* Digital Wellbeing
If I go to the Playstore and uninstall the updates to those two apps the problem goes away.
I also unchecked the Auto-Update option to avoid the issue in the short term.
Best regards

Mate you are a lifesaver. I've been having this issue for a weeks now and it's so annoying! Disabeling Digital wellbeing fixed it.

HA ... It is so annoying that I even reinstalled my ROM to try to fix the problem, so when (after flashing the ROM) I reinstalled Nova everything was OK, but when playstore started to auto-update everything the problem returned, that's how I KNEW that it was something from a Google update!!

I was up to 4 factory reset since mid august , trying to understand what was responsible for this mess while scouring the web for an answer.
Until I ended on this topic. Trully, thank you. really.
muck like you, I apparently somehow cannot remove/uninstall that "Digital Wellbeing" crap either ( most likely forced by my phone provider, since it was always back after every factory reset. ) , but at least I can also disable the auto update to hopefully fix the problem. Finger crossed.
