Question Help with black crush issue, software or hardware thing? - Xiaomi Poco F3 / Xiaomi Mi 11X / Redmi K40

Hi, i have black crush issue (it looks extremely pixelated on dark scenes), but it has a peculiarity. If i select "Vivid" on colour scheme, the display works fine. But as soon as i turn off the screen, and then turn on, the black crush appears again.
I tried every option in the colour scheme, in every one i have this issue, except on "Vivid" mode, which works fine until screen turns off, then appears again.
Is then a software thing? Will change the rom solve this issue? Or should i return the phone? Thanks.

Sorry mate but I believe this is a software issue. I haven't come across this issue with this phone, however, in the past, the black crush of my ROG Phone 3 was (partially) fixed by a custom kernel.

Screen/display problem. banding, interlacing

Hello.
As of last night, when i turned on my Excalibur, it has had a strange display issue. it looks as if the upper 4/5ths of the screen is displaying only half of an interlace, and the rest is white. the bottom 1/5th is perfectly normal. All phone functions appear to be perfectly normal. I am running 3VO.2.50.080809 ROM.
Can anybody give me an idea of what may be wrong with it, and how i might go about fixing it. In one week i will also have access to a broken Excalibur with a working screen, so if it does turn out that the screen needs to be replaced, that is an option. I'm willing to try anything. Thanks for the support in advance

You have the same problem that i have. It is not a white screen problem!, it is a permanent white scanlines problem... nobody could give me an answer yet.

Have you tried the link in my post?
sorry for the delayed response. yes i did, but there are no programs running at all in celeTask. also. it is not the whole screen that is white. there are interlaced bands of white for the upper 4/5ths of the screen, and the bottom 1/5th is displaying normally. any other ideas? im wondering if reflashing might help.
This happens to my phone.. is it the same that happens to you?

Colorful screen flicker (noticeable on white background)

Hi,
I've noticed an issue recently with my SGS3 (I747M). The flicker that I am referring to is not the more common hardware overlays issue, but rather only occurs, or is noticeable, on a white background. What happens is the screen will flicker colors; it's not that the entire screen will display one color and change to another and another rapidly, but rather it seems random pixels on the screen will flicker in waves...almost a 'shimmering' effect. So far, it seems to happen not immediately after reboot, but later on as I use my device. I was hoping this was a software issue, but so far it seems to be more likely a hardware issue.
From googling, I have found that this issue is not limited to myself (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1772504-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Praise-and-Problems), that being said, I couldn't find anyone else here on XDA that has this issue. Have any of you experienced it? and if so, what did you do? return under warranty perhaps?
Thanks in advance.

It might be a digitizer problem, digitizers are hard to replace but, I think zedomax has a way to change it.
Just go on galaxys3root.com-- this might help http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-replace-broken-lcd-screen-on-galaxy-s3/
thanks for the reply, but would a malfunctioning digitizer actually cause the screen to shimmer as it does? I would think it might be a digitizer problem if the screen wasn't recognizing my inputs properly, but I think this is a different issue which, to me, seems to be not related to the digitizer.
thanks though!
any other possible ideas/solutions?
I have had that issue. It would do the same thing and then lock up because I would try and hit the home button. The. It would do a full reboot. Weirdest thing I have ever had happen to a phone. I tried different than roms and stock and didn't do a dang thing. Returned it to att.

I suppose if it actually does get to that point where it renders the phone as unusable as in your case, I'll probably do the same...though since it's outside the 14 days I have with my provider (Rogers), I think I might have to go through with a warranty replacement through Samsung.
Thanks for the reply
update:
It seems it was either the ROM or Kernel that caused the issue (last few versions of task's AOKP). After flashing a different ROM (bacon version of Roger's JB), the issue seems to be resolved *knock on wood*.

LeEco Le Pro 3-- red screen occur when pressing the power button to turn off.

Hello everyone, I got LeEco Le Pro 3 two weeks ago. For the past two weeks of testing, I notice that the screen quickly turns red when pressing the power button to turn the screen off. Is any of you facing this problem? It happens randomly, not every time. I have attached the video in slow motion capture in the 7z zip file. So you can see, what I am talking about. Let me know if any of you see it.
In mine sometimes it blink red. Power sleeping your phone rapidly. May red screen is reaction for force kill app?

I did not power sleep my phone rapidly. The red screen still persist. I don't know if force kill app cause it. I submit the feedback through the leeco experience center about this issue. This is what I got from them:
"Le Engineer
Hello,
I just get some information for this issue, in low battery level the red screen issue will happen sometimes. We also find the same thing on other brand device.
However R&D team are working on it. Hope it will be fixed in next generation product.
Sorry for inconvenience. Thank you for choosing the LeEco."
So I don't know if my phone is defective or not. It's hard to tell. Base on this message, look like there is no fix for this.
I saw this movie. My phone behave as same as your <sometimes>. May it's EUI problem? Somebody on other ROM like MIUI or CM13 can say something?

Mine occur sometime, too. Here is what I analyze:
1. On the home screen; when pressing power button to turn off, red screen occur sometime.
2. Any app that has white background like the waze app I use in the video, red screen occur every time I turn off the screen while leaving the app running. That goes for other app like chrome, whatsapp, google map, gmail, etc. Same result.
3. On the back button, when I press hold, the screen turns off. No red issue. This was on the home screen and this rarely happen. But for apps that is open, same issue.
That is what I like to know if it is hardware defect or software EUI problem. It looks like software issues. It would be great if someone would test it with different roms such as CM13 or MIUI.

It could be a software issue since I don't have that on CM.

I never seen with MIUI 8, can anyone give me a sequence to try ?
Tried some times, shut down it's too rapid to see with MIUI.

If you have another phone with slow motion support just like I did, you can try that.
Other thing I want to mention, I would like to know that if the red screen does not happen to people who have CM or MIUI on lepro 3, can any of you go back to EUI and try to do the same steps? If you can. This would more confirm that the software is the issue and not the hardware defect.
Any update?
Hi folks! I've been searching for this rare issue since I got my LM2 last week. I have the very same issue and I notice the same @crazy1990 mentioned here. Besides, I notice this red light is more noticeable when the brightness is higher.
IMO, I don't feel it's a matter of bad hardware (I hope so), as there are no clues of any other issues at all. I'm also using stock (23s) and I suspect it's some poorly designed fade for the ROM.
Any updates from anyone?
Yes. Red screen blink is noticeable when the brightness is high. As of June, I still have this issue since November on this stock rom 21s. So far, there was no screen degradation or any kind of lcd problem. Lcd works perfect since day one. A while back, I installed lineageOS and I still experience red screen when the rom froze and reboot. At this point, I still don't know if it is the software or hardware. I hope someone can help us out.

At least your report is positive. :fingers-crossed:
Did you try other custom ROMs? RR, Cuoco?

No, but I already tried omnirom and purity rom. No red screen issue. I also tried tars 21s and turbo base rom, the issue is there.

Great to know it doesn't happen on Omni/Purity. My biggest concern was an increasing degradation and/or flickering issues arising when changing to a stock ROM.
Thanks for your information.

New LG G8S AOD issue.

Bought a LG G8S today but have an issue with the always on display there's a faint Grey background that is only on the half of the screen to put it simple the from the top to half of the screen background is not fully black.

That's definitely weird, I don't have that issue, but in any case I dont even use aod, i just have it set to display alerts. Aod to me was always a battery drainer.
But that looks like it could possibly be a screen burn, can't say for sure though.
Try searching for a completely black picture online (google or something) and look if it behaves the same when you put that picture in fullscreen
if yes it's an issue with your screen (which is highly possible, it doesn't look like something software-side-y to me)
LG G8S here in UK.
MASSIVE screen burn.
Literally half the screen has gone a VERY dark green.
Any way to fix this?
thanks
Matt
Me too
I have the same problem, but isn't hardware problem, if you put a black image doesn't appear that, I'm sure that is a software problem. Already I contact LG support but they just told me go to the store where you buy it for warranty

I have it too but it's only visible at night in very low light. I suspect it's software related since activating the AOD during the day works as it should.
I'm facing the same issue. I think it's most probably a software or hardware issue which is involving the ambient light sensor. For me, it doesn't occur only while using the AOD feature when the phone is placed within a dark enviroment. It also occurs on the superior half of the screen for a period of one second or so if I cover and then uncover the ambient light sensor or when I use the Brief notifications feature. It is only noticeable in low light conditions.
Also, I have contacted LG Support but unfortunately they were not able to provide any solution.

I think it's a software issue. It's very unlikely to be hardware since we have different hardware by different factories. I have the "Brief Notifications" - "Bubble notifications" feature activated and when a notification comes in it also happens but only in low light environments.
I am also on Android 10 - build V20a

I see. If it really is a software issue, then it must be a persistent one. I am currently on Android 9 V10r and had this issue from the very beginning. It isn't that annoying but I hope LG will provide a solution.

Strange. I got the answer that some users are not facing the issue. Hope LG can provide an answer.

I can assure that it is not an a software issue because when I went back to the store to show the problem they replaced my phone right away but I asked the manager to let me compare both phone screens and they confirmed that it is a display defect. Also I gave up on the phone completely since the replacement unit had a defect on the WIFI\SIM module.

I understand. Thank you.
I have noticed this problem too today. AOD is grey, it was fine on A9. Hope LG will fix this (..but i doubdt ).
Generally, an AOD is a bad idea for an OLED screen because of its burn-in effect. Active pixels age while others do not or only slowly. Further, some sub-pixels age faster than others, e.g. the blue ones faster than the green ones. Manufacturers spent a lot of time, money and effort to conceal this effect ... because they failed to really avoid it. In fact, sub-pixels, that are not as worn out as others, are artificially aged to get a uniform degradation of the screen.
The phenomenon you described might be a side effect of this „uniform OLED screen degradation technology” (euphemism?).
As a conclusion one could say that some decent LCD is still a good idea, especially Motorola's method to show time and notifications for some seconds whenever you lift your phone from the table or similar.

Sorry for Off Topic
did someone tried hard reset or flashing the software manually via pc?
lol...it's a hardware issue LG will refuse to own up too.

Ambient Display Screen Flashes

Hi Guys!~
Hope all is well !!
... recently I came across my rooted android 11 Pixel 3XL got a screen flashes with bright home screen background during the screen turning off and entering ambient display mode.
I try my best to find a solution but haven't found one yet.
I have tried to reflash to stock, also doesn't fix the problems.
... the only solution I found at this moment is to get android 12 beta which the transition animation from turning off the screen to the wake up of ambient display is totally different and I still prefer to stay with rooted android 11.

If you tried multiple roms especially the stock* one unless it's something you loaded after the flash, it's got to be hardware related. It's possible the non stock rom blew out some hardware too.
Try setting brightness to manual.
A rework around may be the only viable solution.
You ever wonder what happens when one or two of the billions of semiconductor junctions/resistors/caps fails in the chipset or display? You might be looking at an example
It could be a loose connection, or a faulty ribbon cable/connector, a subassembly maybe even battery (if so there be more symptoms).
*unless a known issue in this device.

I could be wrong... and even if it is hardware that doesn't mean a work around doesn't exist to make it usable.
Play with it, Androids wuv attention
