Apologies if this has been posted before, I did look but couldn't seem to find the exact same issue.
I've had my phone for just under a year, no real problems. But late last month it restarted over night and since then it started freezing every night when I left it charging. At first I thought it was crashing but the charge light would still be on but all buttons would be unresponsive. The only thing I could do to regain control of my phone was to remove the battery.
I contacted HTC who suggested factory reset...which I don't really want to do. As my phone was only freezing once a day (over night) it wasn't all that bad. To be honest I thought it was an issue with it charging.
For reasons I can't remember, I removed an app that I never used; it was using 2mb space and couldn't be put on the SD. Once removed, the freezing stopped happening and there was much rejoicing...until last night.
I decided to download another app and the freezing happened again over night. I've since removed that app but here's the rub, why is this happening?
The fact it's happening whenever I download more apps to my phone seems to point to a memory issue but my phone has 1.6GB on the SD and 53mb on the phone itself.
I still haven't tried a factory reset and as I've had it less than a year, HTC said I can return it; but there's no guarantee this will fix it and I like my little phone, so if there's a way I can resolve this issue I'll rather do that before trying more drastic measures.
I hope someone can help.
Are you rooted? If that's the case, and, you are charging the phone when it is switched off, what you are experiencing is a known bug.
Also, although unrelated, it is really not recommended to charge your battery overnight or for extended periods. Charge only till it is full.
Nope, not rooted. Just a plain, bog-standard out the box Wildfire.
Thanks for the heads up regarding the charging though Since I bought it (July last year) I had been charging over night on most days but I'll switch to just charging it for a few hours till it's full now.
I guess in case it'll help I'll give a little more info: While charging I leave my phone switched on and I rarely restart my phone unless it drops signal. Only recently with the freezing have I had issues with using it and had to restart it frequently. I'm not a techie person so I've not played around with the phone other than putting on apps, where possible I put them onto SD. My phone is unlocked and I use it on the O2 network.
make a factory reset bro. it tells u whether the issue is with hardware or software. kept under charging mode just heats up the phone by a little level. this dont normally freeze the phone.
but if u r downloading something with data connection, or bluetooth, or wifi and kept charging overnight, then the battery gets overheated heavily which freezes the phone. it is quite normal and is experienced by people who keep overnight downloads.
and further there may be application conflicts in ur phone, which make it slow and freeze. i expect this is the issue with u.
if u r sure that u r not using any data connections, then i suggest u to factory reset ur phone. before that backup all the data. i dont understand what makes u from not doing the factory reset.

I would have thought if this was an application issue it would have started after installing this dodgy app and also continue until I unistalled. This hasn't been the case. When it started happening I hadn't installed anything other than updates for weeks or maybe months. During the week while it was having this issue, I had installed 1 app (Photoshop).
It has only frozen once during the day, right after work; that was the time I finally thought I'll have to factory reset. So I was writing down all my apps in a notepad so I knew what I had and where they were (I'm fussy with my screen setup). I decided to remove 2 apps I never used (8Pen and Photoshop), I thought I'll leave it 1 night just in case and that night though it never froze, so I didn't reset.
Since then it's been working fine for 3 weeks till last night when I downloaded another app. So it seems random, it's not associated with a particular app and comes and goes.
The reason I'm cautious about factory resetting is that it deletes everything. Though I have backed contacts up to MyLookOut and to my SD card, I'll still loose my apps and data and so I'm not keen on doing it. Not using wifi means it's heafty on my 500mb data package to redownload them again and then I'm unsure if i'll have to upgrade to Froyo again.
End of the day it just seems like a "Turn it off and on again" answer and as it comes and goes and doesn't seem to have a reason why it happens so randomly I don't want to factory reset if there's another way.

u r worrying about loosing data on factory reset. but do u know that u can backup each and everything on the phone including the apps downloaded from market.
ok, i will try to give a software solution. first uninstall all the file managers and app managers in your phone. then go to market and download "ANDROID ASSISTANT". this little app has many features. explore it and u will know its potential. it has a nice option called QUICK BOOST. when u press this quick boost on a heavily stuck phone, u will feel like ur phone got a new life. it makes the phone response faster in seconds.
and further it has auto boost option, which can be set to a minimum of 10minutes. this auto boost will help u in preventing the freeze issue. hope it works. the present version of android assistant is 2.3.3

How do you backup apps? I know they'll appear in the download list but I'll rather not have to redownload them all, plus I have a few not from the marketplace. I've read that during a factory reset even apps which are apparently "saved" on the SD card are removed because they're not 100% saved onto it. So if you know of a way to back them up I would be most grateful.

yes freezing also happens when there is very low phone free memory. when ur apps get filled in phone and keep on decreasing its memory, it is more likely that ur phone gets freezed. its always better to keep a 30MB free phone memory. remember data and cache also use phone memory, so the free memory will be generally unpredictable with minor errors. have u got any idea of a windows pc freezing. a windows pc freezes if there is some errors in registry. that is the reason why i have suggested u to make factory reset first to eliminate the software issues.
u asked me a solution to backup ur apps, right.
firstly i wanna introduce u about the backing up of applications.
android applications will be in the .apk file format and u know this. this .apk file is an installable archive just like .exe of windows OS. opening the .apk files from a file manager installs the program files of that application. but when u download the applications from android market, u will not get the .apk files. the android market installs the program files directly. but we can still create an .apk file from these program files and app managers will do that function. both the files im attaching u below will do that function.
here im attaching u two applications (.apk files)
one is APP CONTROL. i recommend u to use this. it can be used with android assistant installed. both of them work fine. the APP CONTROL version i gave u is an older version and is a full version. A newer version of APP CONTROL is available in the android market, but it is not free. so i strongly recommend u to use this. it has a great feature to backup all ur apps at a single click. the apps backed up by it will be saved as .apk files under the path
MEMORY CARD/backups/apps
i recommend u to back up all ur phone and mem card apps at a time with a single click. explore this APP CONTROL.
i dont want to give a detailed explanation of the other file ANDROID APP MANAGER, because i wont recommend u to use this. im just attaching u this because of only one reason, that APP CONTROL is presently not a full version. using of it is entirely at your personal intrest.
I took your advice and did a factory reset - backed everything up so it wasn't as painful as I first thought it would be. Managed to reinstall everything and so far so good (touch wood) but the original issue was sporadic and so only time will tell.
I have noticed since the reset that my phone memory, which was 50mb before, is now 100mb. So hopefully this will mean that I'm not forced to limit what I download.
Such a shame the Wildfire doesn't have more memory

that 50 MB and 100 MB may be due to app memory + cache memory. if u have interrupted the download android apps from market, and have every downloading app partly downloaded and interrupted. then that partly downloaded apps go to the cache memory of MARKET application. u can try and check this.
similarly there will be cache memory for every application. i expect all those cache memories got built up and ate 50 MB of ur phone memory. if it is so, it says that how vigourously u have used ur phone regarding applications.
these cache memories wont get cleaned just on restrating phone, and u should manually clean them either through the phones inbuilt process or through the applications having keywords of cache cleaner.
there is somewhat that i dont like in android apps. which is the application doing extra functions other than its name. now a days, u can see many file managers in android market. and those file managers suppose to have the fuction of explorer of android file system. but they will have additional features like combined app manager, cache cleaner, uninstaller, installer.
this makes the different applications conflict with each other and slow down the os. thats the thing i hate here. i have to choose priority in apps, and sometimes need to avoid nice apps due to that reason.
Well, my phone has just froze again Sent an email to HTC (already had an email chain going with them so I just updated my ticket) and asked them what to try next.
On the plus side at least they won't keep telling me to factory reset!

HOPE U HAVE ELIMINATED THE SOFTWARE ISSUE
OK. hope the phone froze without even single app being installed.
suppose if the freeze was a software issue, then u have backed up the app causing freeze. let us think this like a virus. if u had reinstalled that app again, ur phone is likely to freeze again.
i haven't heard of virusses if android os, but i have seen many antivirus programs for android. even the great kaspersky recently added its support for android. the existance of antivirus programs proove the existance of virusses.
so, try to remember if u have installed any backed up app frm mem card.
Im personally guessing that ur phone freeze was not a software issue. ur phone might be having hardware issues.
giving to a service centre might solve the problem, but im not pretty sure. and moreover, if they update ur phone to froyo, u cant even root. (i dont remember what ur phone is on now). and even u cant make those service centre guys see ur problem, as u dont know when it freezes. i expect, what all they are gonna do to ur phone is factory reset, or reinstall the os.

"We are sorry! The Application LGSystemServer has been closed".
After the error I can't do anything. It's reappearing so fast after clicking "ok", that I can't get into the settings or past the lock screen. Only a factory reset helps.
I'm still running stock android, no changes so far (root etc.). Had this problem with 2-3 GPads Devices before and exchanged them. But the problem still continues, so I think it's an app or settings problem.
After a factory reset I can restart normally for a while. I download my apps and change my settings. Then I don't reboot like for 1-2 weeks and get the problem again.
Before I try rebooting, I make sure I have a backup that I can restore. Had to use it today and restored. And no problem after same apps & settings from the backup. So far, but it will appear again, after a while I think.
Does anyone have a similiar problem or knows what the problem could be

I have the same problem on my G-Pad. Wiped cache and dalvik, no help. Full wipe fixes the problem. I used also TWRP for full backup. Restoring the backup brings also the problem back.
Weird problem. Certainly software related.

I have my device since Monday. I deleted some bloatware (after Root), and I had the same problem.
I found the solution in: [HOW-TO] The easiest way to unbrick your LG G Pad 8.3
It took about one hour and the problem has gone.

Thought it was my Samsung 32GB MicroSD that was causing the problem. Because my sister had the same problem after we inserted the same microsd into her G Pad. In here case a factory reset did it and the probleme never occured again.
Right know I'm testing and writing down, every little change I do. To find the problem trigger. Maybe it is a coincidence, but I also did the "Update Recovery" with the LGMobile Tool yesterday. When the problem appeared, because I read it could help that way. It was still there after rebooting, so I did a factory reset like always. After that I tested after every major change. Did so far 18 Reboots and no problem.
I really hope that the software installed on the G Pad was causing the problem so far. To make sure, I formated the MicroSD card to exfat3 and then back to fat32 under Xubuntu-Live CD with GParted.
Another thought was with the constant writing/reading of my lecture note files every 2 min. of autosave, that are stored on the MicroSD card. And the index search every hour over the 9000 files by DropSync.
I really hope that was the solution.
Interesting coincidence
Interestingly, I have a same problem and same issue. I am using DropSync and LectureNote. Before I receive the same message, I always see a message in LectureNote saying "out of memory" or at least using LectureNote. I think it may be related with LectureNote. I am going to try with autosaving function deactivated.
If it continues, I may remove LectureNote from G Pad and observe how it goes.

@namagile: Coincidence does not imply causality. The problem that you observe might surface by using LectureNotes, but this does not necessarily mean that LectureNotes is causing it.
I received a couple of similar reports, and in one case, the user sent the device logs to me. There were entries in the logs that a system service failed to start another system service, causing this error message that you see; why that tends to happen after LectureNotes usage is not clear. The user admitted that she/he deleted system software after rooting the device, which might be tempting but can lead to problems in case you delete the wrong things.

I love LectureNote. I don't know/care how it happens, but every time my LG G pad crashed, LectureNote was being used and showed a strange behavior. Now, I deactivated 'auto-saving' and other options coming with a warning message "not to use if RAM is not big". We see how it goes. I hope/believe this may resolve an issue.
One tip for LectureNote. There are so many options available for a user to set -- please simplify and hide some of the options from a ordinary user like myself. It will be less intimidating to new users. Thanks.

@namagile: The options are certainly not to intimidate users but to empower them. All options have meaningful default values chosen such that LectureNotes works on essentially all Android devices without touching the settings.
But this is not the topic of this thread.

I have a 8.3 gpad and have the same problem. Now it recurred for the third time. The problem might be indeed with LectureNotes conflicting somehow with LG software. My device is NOT rooted. For the first two times I had no external SD card, now I have one. I was not using Dropsync earlier either.
I would be happy to do some testing and experimenting.
It would be good to know, if I remove or change some file somewhere, can it bring the device back to life without a factory reset?
I had the problem even before using DropSync. I reinstalled the stock rom using the LG Mobile Tool and then did a factory reset.
No problems so far. Even after installing all apps and configuring them. Then I uploaded about 500 Lecture Notes files using DropSync. Even the next day I did a reboot everything was fine.
I didn't use LectureNotes ones after the new installation. And didn't delete anything that was pre-installed (wallpapers, google apps etc.). (It was said to be a problem conflicting there)
So yesterday I used LectureNotes about 1 1/2 h non stop. Saved about 3-4 times and then closed it. Used DropSync and uploaded the new files to my Dropbox account.
Then didn't use the tablet until the next morning. I tried a normal reboot (using the Power-Off Button (Shut down and reboot), to test and BAM the usuall error message occured again.
Thank god the backup I did before was bug-free and I could flash it back.
So now I'm testing what in LectureNotes could be triggering this error after a reboot is done.
My ideas so far that I will test:
- Automatic Saving Option off
- A few different settings in the app (Triggering back to Default)
- not using DropSync for a while, to test if that was maybe a part of the problem.
- Using a different ROM, maybe the problem is just with the LG Stock rom? (But that will be the very last option I will try)
- Trying to clear cache after using LectureNotes (The Cache is never saved in my backup, so never restored back. Maybe there is sth. saved, that doesn't restart after a reboot.)
What I tested so far:
- The Problem didn't occur 2 times when I used LectureNotes < 1 h.
- The App location doesn't matter for the Problem. Had the App first time on the external SD Card (storage/externalSD/LectureNotes), then on the internal (storage/emulated/0/LectureNotes).
- Tested other apps longer than > 1 and no Problem was there.
If I could anaylse the log file, I gladly would, but I don't know how to. (Read sth. about LogCat?)
@Wolkenstern: There are several apps in Google Play and other app stores (search for `logcat´) that can read the log files. However, a better way is to connect your device via USB to a `normal´ computer and use `adb´, `logcat´ or similar tools to read the logs.

I installed the catlog app on the tablet, because I can read it in a better ui for now.
I will try to use adb logcat with my computer, when I use LectureNotes at home. (Watched a tutorial)
Step 1: But will it also still continue writing if I reboot the devise? Critical for the error message, that keeps appearing.
Step 2: If I have the log and filter Errors and Terrible Failure, what do I do with them? I don't think I can analyse them, even though I have Java Programming Expierence, but I'm a newbie with programming android apps.
@Wolkenstern: What to look for is difficult to say, even warnings can contain important information in this case.
The advantage of the variant with USB cable is that it continues to display logs during a reboot.
@acadoid: I think I need to combine them. Because I get this little lag with my stylus (GoSmart), when it is connected with the usb.
And then I have broken letters. So I'm running the logcat while using lecture notes and then switching to the adb logcat on my computer, if I'm testing the reboot after.
LectureNote's function crashes LG G pad -- requiring Factory reset!!
Hi, I used Penutimum and Papylus before. Now I moved to LectureNote, but found a serious error. I use LG G pad 8.3, one of latest tablets. Whenever I use the function of 'cut' and 'paste' of my drawing on the note, it says 'Out of momery. Trouble ahead'. And the LG system server is down. I have to do factory reset, reinstalling everything. The tablet is otherwise working well. Acanoid, can you please help on resolving this issue? Otherwise, I wasted my money on this app as it is not usable.
I intentionally tried to confirm that LectureNote's "cut and paste" caused the crash. If this problem does not get resolved, I am going to ask for a full refund. The money is not what matters. I spent my precious tens of hours due to this critical error. I hope Acanoid team can resolve the issue.

If you directly see an `out of memory´ message, then disable `large page cache´ in the app's storage settings, and if this option is already disabled, use a smaller notebook page width and height.
So I tested now for about 2 1/2 hours, rebooted and had the problem again.
After looking in the log after the reboot, there is always this error after the "Fatal Exception: Main" -> "03-23 23:09:23.606 E/AndroidRuntime( 1144): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to create service com.lge.systemservice.service.CliptrayService: java.lang.NullPointerException"
Then there is a loop etc.
That was just a quick look, I will try to look over the other one before the reboot tomorrow.

HI, I already tried the small page cache. It did not make any difference. I have not tried the smaller notebook page width and height, but that is a big pain. Every time I create, I have to adjust the page size. In the end, LG G Pad is a new tablet with decent specs with 2 gb ram. I don't understand that even a tablet of this specs cannot handle one app. It means that the app is not built well considering the specs of a tablet.

@Wolkenstern & namagile: The fact that the device has 2GB RAM does not mean much. LectureNotes requests what is called `large heap´ (indicating that it needs more RAM than `normal´ apps), this results usually in an upper limit of 256MB or 512MB, dependent on device. However, there are devices for which the limit is as low as 64MB, which is usually not enough for LectureNotes.
It would constitute a serve security flaw in Android if an app could crash a device. Even if an app starts to allocate memory as crazy, it will not receive any new memory once it hits the upper limit; if it does not cooperate with Android UI, it will get halted after 5 seconds; etc.
I do not own a LG G Pad and hence I cannot investigate this problem myself. The fact that you observe a null pointer exception in a LG system service (com.lge.systemservice.service.CliptrayService) suggest a severe bug in this system service.
One possibility why the problem occurs when using LectureNotes might be that LectureNotes supports Android's clipboard protocol (not many apps do that). However, even if LectureNotes was using Android's clipboard protocol wrongly (which it does not!), it should not result in a device crash, the worst scenario is that LectureNotes crashes.

Ok, if that really were the problem, than the only way to solve it, is to wait for an update from LG.
I saw a leak of the .tot file of the official V500 Stock 4.4.2 here on XDA. So maybe Kitkat is on it's way although we possibly have to wait weeks again for it.
Or to Flash another Custom Rom.
I will test a few things, with this new input. Worst Case I have to flash my backup daily, but it takes only 3 min.

Hello all.
I just became the new owner of a family member's Samsung Galaxy S3 (AT&T). Already owning and tinkering with two xperia Ion's I wanted to have a little more freedom and experience Kitkat on the GS3.
I had no experience in unlocked bootloaders and all that, so I figured that I would let the Cyanogenmod Auto-Installer do the work for me and install CM11 on my device.
It worked great initially! No problems whatsoever aside from minor glitches here and there. As soon as I started installing some more apps and Xposed modules, I noticed that things were getting odd.
Eventually, my phone wouldn't connect to google's play services whatsoever. Despite countless resets of the phone itself and my modem/router, nothing seemed to help. Flushing the cache and dalvik didn't help either, nor did a factory reset. The issue kept coming back.
Thinking that perhaps another rom wouldn't have the problem, I installed C-Rom (which was based on 4.4.4 KK). It ran BEAUTIFULLY! It is sure one hell of a rom. But then, not too long after I had everything installed and running the way I wanted it to, it had the same errors as before.
I don't know how to explain the error other than the phone just generally messing up. I don't recall it ever having those issues on stock, but then again, it wasn't my phone on stock, and the first thing I did upon receiving it was put a custom rom on it.
But the error can only be explained as a general f***-up of the entire OS. Commands run brutally slow (I will launch the flashlight and it wont turn on until seconds, even minutes later. Alternatively, text messages take eons to send and receive, which I am positive is not an error on the AT&T side of things). Then, whenever I try to download or install an app from the play store, the application will download partially and then stall for what feels like eons. Some of the applications just stop there, and some I will find installed on the device some 30 minutes later. Not to mention that the signal icons on the quick setting tiles are all turned orange for some bizarre reason. Another bizarre issue is that no matter what, I can never launch the terminal to execute an htop, logcat, or anything! The terminal just stalls and eventually crashes, while it worked fine before.
I've checked online for errors similar to this, but haven't found anything that has helped the phone. Anyone out there who is willing to give this a crack or just point me in the right direction?

It sounds like you're the modules you're installing are crashing your system. I'd suggest you do a clean flash of w/e rom you wanna rush (you seem to like C-rom) and run it clean for a few days. You can install apps and such but don't restore system apps and don't install modules.
If it runs fine after a few days, you can cherry-pick the modules you wanna use (make sure they're made for the sammy phones). Install one or two, test for a couple days and so on. You'll eventually find which one is messing with your system (if that's actually what's causing the problems).
All seems to be well now. I've isolated the problematic app after slowly restoring all my app data one at a time. I have since moved to a different rom (SOKP) and everything is going running smoothly! Surprisingly, it wasn't Xposed causing the issue, but a market app that displays system info similar to conky on Linux computers. Once I installed it, the system just crapped out. Signals dropped, the terminal froze, and none of my apps seemed to work properly. But once I uninstalled the app and reset my phone, all was well.

The vibration motor has suddenly failed on my phone. It now hardly vibrates at all and is extremely loud.
The problem seems more or less identical to this one watch?v=ZPqGD2uGG4o if you are curious.
The sound doesn't come from the speakers and I have no reason to believe it could possible be a software issue. Ie no recent installs or updates.
First thing I did was contact google. They had me boot into safemode to see if the problem persists. It does. However they now require that I reformat the phone.
This leads me to my question on how I can backup ALL app data. I have 400+ apps and it would suck to have to reset them all and or lose data.
I can sync phone contacts and such but without root I don't have a way of backing everything up.
Or is there another way to get Google to actually get me a replacement?

If you're bootloader unlocked then root it and use Titanium backup, save it to the computer afterwards. Then unroot and factory reset as they ask. I'd probably not do that but if you have to get a new device, well then you have to. Maybe there is another way, but I've not seen it. Non root backup apps don't backup and restore your data reliably. If you are bootloader locked then I do believe you're out of luck. Pretty lousy of them to make you do that. If they just sent you a new one then you could copy from the old to the new. Maybe suggest that to them.
When you set up the new pixel using info from an old device, how much data is transferred? That may be an option.
I just went from rooted with custom ROM to full stock unrooted. All of my apps restored from the play store. I had to log into a few, but others seemed to retain app data, like Strava for instance. Google's back up seems to be getting better and better. I use SMS backup and restore for SMS/MMS because Google's backup service does not support MMS.
Well in case anyone is wondering... I bit the bullet and did the factory reset. The problem still exists of course.

There is an odd sound coming from within the device itself (not the speakers) and Google blames software? Is there some hidden second speaker inside?? It quite dumb and infuriating.
Even if there was doubt you would think running in safe mode which disables all the third party software would be enough to prove it.
It took me hours to copy everything and make sure everything was backed up. I don't blame the rep, he told me he HAD to make me do this. Honestly, I kinda wish I would have just told him I did it and it didn't work since there was no way it could have been software.
Well now a refurbished replacement is on the way. Which isn't ideal either. It has an issue that isn't too uncommon. I can find a dozen posts online about it which means there is probably hundreds of people with this problem at least. Now I have to put up with a refurbished which probably has a battery worse off as well as who knows what else.
This whole phone feels rushed, to be honest, and I regret buying it.
I won't be buying any more google hardware unless either they change in the future or the particular device has months of reviews.

I didn't know you could unroot and make it seem like it didn't happen. This is what I should have done. Thanks for the suggestion.

If I had the replacement phone up front then transfering is easy. Google even has a built in mechanism, but google wouldn't RMA it and have one sent out until AFTER resetting it. A lot of data is synced but my 400+ apps, none of them seem to sync via the backup and restore feature. I also have 80+gbs of other files beside pictures. I bought the 128gb for a reason... So I posted about this previously but here's more info and a clearer summary
The Issue:
Phone randomly reboots about an average of once per day. Screen freezes, goes black, comes back on for 3 seconds still frozen, then proceeds to reboot. I've kept track and 100% of of the time this seems to happen when I'm typing. Initially I thought it was Textra, but it has happened in Snapchat, and Twitch whenever the google keyboard is up. Google sent a replacement phone and the issues persists, and I find it hard to believe that both phone would have the exact same hardware issue. Furthermore it very much seems like a software issue considering it ONLY happens when the google keyboard is up.
My hope is that someone might have encountered this and has a simple solution although I doubt it. Unfortunately since I don't have another phone, I have to wait to obtain one before I do a safe mode test. And even if I do it's not realistic for me to test it that way because I'd have to spend hours typing away just to try to get the issue to occur (since it's not frequent like every 5 minutes).
I'm suspecting some data or a setting is getting transferred over from my previous backup that's affecting google keyboard or something of the sort. My next step will be a factory reset, and then reinstalling everything bit by bit manually. Of course I have to link my google account, but I won't have it automatically restore the backup. If that doesn't help then I'm at a loss. At that point I'd probably pick up a cheap Pixel 2XL as my daily, and use my P6Pro in safe mode as much as I can to try to trigger the issue I guess?

Just that. To start back fully fresh. Then if you do that take my advice from the other thread, don't restore backups from Google or anywhere, and initially only install your most critical apps. Once you determine you're not having the problem, install some more. Verify, repeat.

At this point, that's more information than you really need to know to try to fix your phone. I don't want to overcomplicate things. You can look at Google search results for "Pixel flash both slots" if you really want to go down that road right now.
Spoiler: Some of the details you're asking for, but you don't need right now
In short, starting with the Pixel 1 in 2016, they have two copies of almost everything (except only one copy of user data). On a Pixel, and another phone that employs dual slots, when you receive an OTA update, it updates the copy of Android that you're not currently running, then reboots into the one it just updated, and once rebooted it goes ahead and updates the copy that you're no longer running, so they're both now updated.
Not all OEMs use the dual partition strategy, which is frustrating. When I briefly had the Note 10+ before the P6P came out, I was amazed that Samsung still hasn't adopted the method. It beats the old style OTA method that Samsung still uses to this day as far as I know where it takes 15-20 minutes or more to run the update while your phone is unable to be used at all, and then even when it boots up the next time Android has to finish the job "optimizing" your apps for the new update. Dual partitions for Android save a lot of time when updating the phone.
In some manual flashing processes, you end up with one slot with a different copy of what you have in the other slot - and you don't want that. The slots are referred to as Slot A and Slot B.
I can go further into detail but you don't really need that to fix your phone.
All you need to know right now is Official Google Android Flash Tool.
If you haven't already tried the factory reset, et cetera, which we had recommended to you at least once in the other thread, then by all means, you can try that. But if you're going to try that, you might as well just use the Official Google Android Flash Tool and ensure you are 100% stock. Official Google Android Flash Tool has fixed a good dozen or two folks' issues (I haven't been keeping count) in these forums in the past 2+ months.
So if the factory resetting doesn't solve things then you'll still have to try Official Google Android Flash Tool to be closer to sure that you tried everything that you could. We had already suggested the Factory Reset to you in the other thread. Since you created a new thread, I figured you might be looking for information you hadn't been given yet.
So the short answer is because Official Google Android Flash Tool will do an even more complete job of putting your phone back to 100% stock, with a lot less doubt than a simple factory reset. Sure, a factory reset, in theory, should get you the same thing, but there are all sorts of circumstances where a factory reset won't. Something is wrong with your phone and we don't know what it is.
There's the Factory Reset idea and then there's the Official Google Android Flash Tool idea - either coupled with the staggered manual installation of apps until you narrow down if it was a particular app causing the issue. It doesn't matter which one you choose to try first. If you try just a Factory Reset, and things still go haywire, then you'll still have to try Official Google Android Flash Tool after that. It's your choice, now pick one and go forth and hopefully reboot no more.
Also, I wasn't going to mention this but I will now. Forums generally discourage users from creating multiple threads about the same issue or posting about the same issue in multiple threads. You can always update the OP (opening/first post) if you need to, and give an update as a reply to your existing thread.

I've heard of freezing problems from others related to gboard. This would indeed appear to be a software flaw. I've never really used gboard since the first step for me was google-free AOSP, then put in my sim card and start using it (I don't like spyware).
Simplest solution for you would likely be to try a different soft keyboard. Personally, I would suggest finding one on f-droid rather than play store because open source.
For what it's worth, I've been using GBoard for 5+ years and have never had a problem.

I used to root back in the day and use a custom ROM. If I do that there's no automatic updates right? Have to reload a new ROM for updates?

Depends on the ROM. I believe GrapheneOS has OTA updates. I know some others over the years have had that, too. Certainly not most custom ROMs but some.

Thanks for all the help. (sorry for posting twice, I tried to delete the other) And I did appreciate the extra info so that I understood WHY I needed to do it this way and how it all functions. Two final questions. On modern phones like this one, does running a custom rom really improve battery/performance much? It's already pretty snappy for me, so I feel if I don't care about customizability it's probably not worth the effort for minimal reward. And second question, will the flash tool give me the option to clear both slots ?
Oh and third, is it ok to link my google account, (to get my contacts and such) as long as I'm not restoring any backups from it?

In my opinion, no, but the object of some ROMs (like GrapheneOS) are more geared towards very much increased security and avoidance of all the Google data-collecting that goes on with everything Google, although you can use some or most Google apps with GrapheneOS if you choose.
I've never actually tried GrapheneOS, though - I've only kept up with the two threads about them because I was curious about it. To me, starting with my first Pixel (I never owned a Nexus device), I liked stock Android way better for my purposes.
But just as for a lot of phone-related subjects, the answer to this question is very subjective. What's right for me isn't right for everyone. Everyone's needs are different. The only way of knowing for sure is to try it. You might try something and very quickly say "to heck with that, I'm going back", or you might say "oh, I like this loads better". I'm not a betting man unless something is a near 100% chance, so it's really a toss-up whether you would like a different ROM or not.
Also, how I handle my battery works great for me - but it wouldn't for everyone. I don't charge the phone until it gets down to 25%, and I try not to let it get any lower than 25%. I only charge the phone up to 75% when I can. I never charge overnight, and I never quick charge. That 50% range of battery still lasts me about 24 hours. My Pixel 1 battery is in great shape because of this habit. My wife's, on the other hand, since she didn't do this - her battery on her old Pixel 1 is relatively shot.

Sounds as if you already have made up your mind to me. I mean, that's how I feel, and I like using Google's services for the most part. I'm more a function over form person. While I don't want something downright fugly, I really don't care what things look like - only how they do what I want them to do. Yet again, "how they do what I want them to do" is very subjective. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ didn't do what my wife and I wanted it to do, but we were both spoiled on the Pixel 1 before that. We don't regret our choice to go back to Pixel via the 6 Pro. For others, the Samsung phones are what they need.

You don't want to "clear" both slots, you want to flash both slots. In answer to your question, I don't think you'll have a choice via the site (or offline flashing the full factory image). In other words, both slots are going to get flashed whether you like it or not. You would have to go to extra efforts to *not* flash both slots. Hence yet another reason why you don't have to worry about that aspect.
Google's official methods would never flash only one slot by default. That would be just plain idiotic of them.
Before you ask, the reason I recommend the site rather than offline flashing of the full factory image is:
It's more user-friendly.
It has solved problems when manually flashing the full factory image has not for some others with particular problems.

Yes, absolutely, although in some cases I've recommended going completely fresh and not even doing that, at least before testing long enough to see if you have the issue. You certainly could go without putting your Google account in, etc, but I don't feel that's warranted at this point. The only time I think you should do that, in this case, is if you do it the other way (with your Google account), and you still have the same problem right away (without installing any additional apps).
Just remember don't install any additional apps to start with, long enough to be sure that the problem isn't happening. I know it's a painful process - I've done this before on several devices for different reasons. Usually, the cause of issues becomes evident but it's possible it won't be completely obvious.
FYI, just putting your Google account in will, I believe, possibly still automatically restore your phone's most basic settings but I could be wrong about that. You could always try it without your account at first, use the phone in it's limited state for long enough to know there's no problem, and only then put your Google account in.
