Question Pixel 6 pro-Google dialer - Google Pixel 6 Pro

Good morning. Does anyone have any idea how I can solve the problem I have with the google dialer? When I am called, it takes a long time for the screen to turn on while the sound is ringing and it is generally slow to show who is calling .... I have tried to clear the application cache .... I have checked that irrelevant applications do not have access to the phone application but nothing .... Is there a solution? Thanks

I have the same issue, it actually started with my Pixel 4 XL. Back then I thought maybe it's just getting old. Now I'm having the exact same issue with my P6P. Tried a factory reset thinking it might have been something that migrated with my backup but that did not help.

I'm chiming in only to say I haven't seen this problem, and hope you figure it out. Not rooted? No custom kernel?

Not rooted and no custom kernel, been considering those as a solution

I never tried the google dialer. Didn't trust the phone enough to put a sim in it until I had self-built google-free aosp (now grapheme) installed. I have not experienced this with aosp dialer.

Which update is your phone on? November or December? If November, maybe try manually flashing the December update, potentially removing the "-w " so that it doesn't wipe your phone.

I'm on the December update, but had it even on the November build

When I open the Google dialer and click on the button to pop up the numbers it's very slow to open up

When you factory reset, did you test the Google dialer without restoring any of your old apps or data?
If the January update doesn't fix it for you when it comes out, I'd consider trying that.

Tried before restoring the apps, but I did restore my contacts and SMS. Same result. Could it be something related to my contacts (around 1400 contacts)?

I doubt it, although I "only" have 635 contacts. Right now I'd say everything is suspect, however. You've got to eliminate every possibility.
I might suspect the number/size of SMS before the number of contacts, but it's worth eliminating both at the same time just to see. Or, as I said, wait until the late January update, but if you still have the problem then you'd have to start from scratch yet again to eliminate those possibilities.

Thanks, will give it a shot after the January update drops

My best guess is that this delay happens when you have got paired an android wear with your phone. Just for testing, I paired amazfit gtr 3 pro with my P6P and this delay does not occur.
But at the same time, If you are running aosp rom, this delay doesn't happen with the dialer even with android wear paired. Strange

Interesting thought, I don't have an Android wear watch paired but I have a fitbit Versa. I haven't had this issue since the January update plus a full wipe.
I had a seperate theory which is related to the number of Google accounts I have on my phone (I had 4 before wiping). I'll keep an eye on it and try to unpair the watch if it re-occurs.

Well well well, I acted as per your theory and deleted all my google account except one that is linked to contacts and I am experiencing quite instant call-in and call-out screen and the contacts also show almost instantly.
Its a shame that android is google's own product and these issues (having more than google account) jeopardize the whole experience. I have read a lot of posts on reddit and other forums for the the same issue and all what google guys suggest is factory reset which is not a pleasant way and the problem persists after that.
Maybe I am too quick to give my feedback and this issue resurfaces even with 1 account. Will keep an eye on that and will post my further findings.

Yeah I reconfirm it as well, no delay in call screens if having 1 Gmail account only.
Culprit is Google phone app I guess, may be it goes through all accounts to search n display the contact that cause this delay. I have tried Google phone app on samsung s21 ultra too n there is same delay with having more than 1 accounts while Samsung own dialer app doesn't suffer this issue.

[Bug List]KitKat 4.4.2 Upgrade Bugs

Here's a list of reported bugs since the 4.4.2 kitkat upgrade (bugs may not affect everyone)
1. Horizontal lines during video playback - happens randomly - Rebooting the tablet fixes it / enabling "Disable overlay" in developer settings seems to work -elzeus
2. Audio quality degradation - happens randomly - Rebooting the tablet fixes it / going to test after a clean stock install -elzeus
3. Battery life issues - inaccurate battery level reporting (5% turns 25% after reboot) - alexandruene
4.Chromecast systemui crash is pretty serious. - GldRush98
5.Lockscreen widgets are broken. - GldRush98
6. Emails not showing up in sent folder - jaytee23
7. long press the "period" the "?" doesn't work - RTbar
Battery life
The big issue i have is the battery life. today i couldn't get more then 2 hours on the internet. Did a factory reset and the same thing.
Once it reaches 5 percent if i restart it goes up to 25 but it drops back down to 5 percent in like 5 minutes. Tried with no sd card, no other app's but the same thing. Anyone with a tip on how to get this fixed?? Before the update it was working fine.....
I've added your issues. I have not come across that battery issue on my tablet. Have you tried wiping your cache and user data from recovery before setting up the tablet?
Update for my issues I did a Odin restore with the stock 4.4.2 image and so far no video or sound issues but they took some time to show up before so I'll be keeping a close eye on it.

I can verify random audio quality issue. Happened to me four times since the KK update.
It seems to happen either after you quit an app/game or waking the Note from sleep. I haven't been able to trace the trigger to an exact action or app yet, if there is one.
You don't have to reboot to fix. You can fix by locking and unlocking... maybe once, maybe a few times. But it comes back to normal after one or a few tries for me. Reminds me of the audio bug we had on the HP Touchpad after its final firmware update. Damn! I thought I wasn't going to have to deal with that anymore!
I'll try to be more specific on the lock/unlock fix as I gather more info when it happens again.
And by the way, the fix on the Touchpad was also very similar - lock, wait ten seconds, unlock... lol... maybe Samsung is using the Touchpad audio driver!

Got lines again on video tried to lock a bunch of times didn't work (ill try for audio). Don't they test these updates? This is a pretty nasty bug that didnt happen pre kitkat, I think im going to downgrade until its fixed.
Update after reading this youtube thread https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEasAq2ik_A
I'm trying out forced gpu rendering to see if it fixes it. It seems like it is a software issue as it affects the pro 12.2 model as well.

Did everything but didn't help, last night i left in recovery mode so i can make sure the battery dies completely and to day i saw a big improvement.
I hope it will stay that way.. I will keep you updated

Mh, as developer I am always careful to call something a bug.
And for these "bugs" my question is: Why not everyone have it? Why only a small group? Therefore I don't think that these are bugs but have to do with your installation.
Did anyone of your try a factory reset? Try out on a clean installation, which means without any settings changed, any app installed, any sd-card inserted?

I've done a factory reset & clean installation. I haven't rooted but did add my normal apps after getting it setup with sd card. The next time it happens I'll try unmounting the sd card.
If you check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEasAq2ik_A they also had the issue on their Pro 12.2 but that tablet received a stability update in early April that may have fixed it. It may be that our version was trailing there's or there is some other variable (no magazine UI etc) that is causing it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50527314&postcount=20 that person also had the lines in late Feb. I'll pm him and ask him if the issue went away after their update.
Forcing GPU 2d rendering from the developer options didn't seem to work as the corruption came back, but I did enable the "Disable UI overlay" and it did end up going away "crossing fingers" as this is the only thing I've tried that has gotten rid of the lines while the tablet is powered on (usually it only goes away after rebooting).
Another bug I found so far is with the included Email app. I'm using it with my gmail account. The new version included with KK has an issue with sent mail. Specifically, it doesn't update the sent mail folder - at least for me. It used to work perfectly. Now when you send an email from the app, the email doesn't show up in your sent mail folder within the app. I have tried deleting all the email data on the tablet, and the cache, and set it up four times since KK and it it just won't show email you send from the tablet in the sent mail folder. Note, I'm not talking about email that is already in your sent email folder in your gmail account. I'm saying, send a new email from the tablet, and that email should immediately appear in your sent mail folder, but it doesn't. It doesn't ever show up there. Kind of a problem. Can anyone else confirm this? Send an email from the Email app and see if it shows up in your sent mail folder within the email app. Thanks.

You're a developer and you say that? Are you serious? I'm an expert user. Every platform I've ever owned for the past 30 years from the Commodore 64 to this Note 10.1 has had bugs, some minor, some major. Just like the 24-second touchsceen timeout bug I found and reported in the last firmware version. The new KK update is so new its still rolling out to users. I've already encountered two bugs for sure - the audio quality bug and the email bug I just described in the previous post. The audio bug has been confirmed and I believe the email bug I just reported will also be confirmed. The fact is that certain people are more adept at finding and reporting issues. It also depends on how you use the device and with what regularity. Are you suggesting that we sit on our hands and not report the problems we find? Please.

I normally just use gmail but I setup the stock email app to test it for you. I set it up as a push account and sent a test email. It was briefly in the "Outbox" folder then it was sent out leaving the outbox folder empty. I then checked the Sent folder right underneath the outbox folder and it wasn't updated yet so I hit the refresh button in the top right corner and my test email showed up.

I never did that. I only mentioned not to call issues a bug. This didn't help anyone. People who didn't have this problem begin to fear it and people who have will stop searching the real reason because it is a bug.
I mean what I see are already hundreds of downloads of KK and only 3 persons complaint the video "bug". Did you think that only 3 "power" users are watching videos?

Do you have an SD card inserted?
I just tried something where:
1) I deleted my email account from the client again
2) deleted the data/cache from the Email app
3) ejected my SD card
4) set up the account again in the Email client
5) sent a test email
6) sent email now shows up in sent email folder but only after a manual refresh
7) reinserted SD card
8) sent another test email
9) sent email still showing up in sent email folder, but only after a manual refresh (shouldn't have to do that) and it takes awhile.... hmmm....
I tried this because I was reading a thread in the 12.2 forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670065) where a guy mentioned a similar issue. I thought I would try dismounting the SD card and setting up the account again... still not happy... still uncertain about this... something wonky here.
I'll try more tomorrow... must sleep now.

I didn't have any problem with email I was tracing my steps for jaytee in case I did anything different from him in the way his email is setup. As for the list if they aren't bugs then what are they? People make bug lists so they can get fixed or so people can post workarounds. The only reason I enabled the developer options was to find a solution for the video lines...so far the disable overlay checkbox has worked.

Maybe it is personal but I would call them problems and not bugs. The difference for me is that a problem is my problem and I have to find a solution or work-around (or someone else for me) and a bug came from Samsung and normally can only be solved by Samsung. A problem didn't have anybody, can be constructive be solved and create a positive atmosphere here in xda. A bug have anybody, can be solved only by experts and is something negative because the product didn't work like it should be.
Therefore I find good that you start such a list but I would more mentioned what you did before (how you get the update), which update, if rooted or not, what happens and what was expected and then if a solution or work-around exists.

You're both sort-of correct. There are pervasive "bugs" and situational bugs. @Elim is right, it's pretty clear that some of the issues being reported are situational bugs caused by some combination of elements that affect a subset of users. Add to that no two Android devices are configured the same way and it's easy to see how things that affect one user (or set of users) don't affect another. Some people rooted, some use tons of system/memory managers and battery boosters, some flashed over 4.3, and some are using a ROM from a different CSC than assigned to their h/w. All those things can cause issues of varying degrees.
Not everyone's having the battery life, Chromecast, and video lines issues so you can pretty much assume it's not the 4.4 s/w alone causing some folks to have problems. Like Elim said, if it were in the core ROM s/w everyone would be experiencing the issues equally. His advice was solid; do a restore through recovery and before loading any personal apps or settings see if the problem(s) still there. If it's not, it's something related to an individual configuration.
I don't have a problem with Chromecast or lockscreen widgets.

Access permissions with Nougat

Not sure if anyone else has run into this problem since upgrading to Nougat but I wanted to throw it out there in case someone has noticed it or has any suggestions.
Every time I restart my phone, app permissions are reset. Notifications revert back to stock. Camera asks for storage permissions. Calendar needs access to accounts etc. It's hasn't gotten me frustrated enough to reflash but if anyone else has had this experience or has a suggestion I am willing to try it.
My HTC One M9 only recently got the Nougat update (within this month, March 2017). I too have been plagued with access permissions being randomly forgotten at start up. The most annoying being Gmail and Calendar, but I too have had Camera asking for them to be allowed too. Very very annoying.
Since the Nougat update I have had a strange problem with Gmail, even when permissions have been correctly set. The phone completely forgets the two Gmail accounts that I use. I decided to try to uninstall the app but it takes you back out of the updates to the factory installed level. Then when I tried to put my two Gmail accounts in the Google account option was frozen, just could not add them. I finally decided that HTC Sense might have something to do with it! So I disabled it, then re-enabled it and Gmail account setup suddenly responded with my two accounts already showing! So I have now gone to Google Play Store to download the latest Gmail updates and it all appears working. But for how long?
What has HTC done with its Nougat update? The phone was once stable, now its an unreliable mess!

Good to hear from you, especially as you are a fellow sufferer.
I have a stock phone, not rooted at all. Sadly I gave up my "nerd" hacking a few years ago. I prefer not to mess these days and stick with what the manufacturer supplies.
However, I still find it odd that no-one else has reported this, but you and I. I am now convinced there is a bug with HTC's tailoring of Nougat. And I believe the reason is that no-one reports it is because they leave their phone on all the time, even when charging. I always close the phone down at night and put it on charge overnight. It seems the complete restart triggers this behaviour. It doesn't do it every time though. I even wondered at some stage if it was simply app updates being applied, as the Gmail, Calendar and other popular apps are often being fiddled with (sorry, enhanced) by Google. However, I also have had the problem at start of day, even after no updates have been applied.
It is very annoying. I wonder if I should try never switching the phone off completely to see if the permissions remain then? What do you think?

So I found my issue was due to a encrypted SD Card which constantly resets permission. So what I did was I formatted my SD Card and replace with existing backed up data from the computer, and it worked.

I've noticed the issue, for sometime now and I've been updated to Nougat since day 1. My phone never sleeps so I didn't noticed. It's pretty annoying. Will try the SDCard formatting and see. I'll let know how it goes.

contact sync after flashing 8.1 system image not syncing all contacts

anyone else experiencing this issue? I am only showing 370/408 contacts. I tried to troubleshoot this with google and they couldn't figure it out. They reassured me that it would eventually sync.
Yup. Same issue, only on an OG Pixel XL.
yes, same issue, even reset phone twice now to try and get it to work
giving errors at time also if I try to add a new one.
Same here on smaller Pixel 2 on 8.1. WTF Google. Do they ever test their ****?
So I do frequent the Pixel 2 XL forum b/c I had one and returned it but looking to get another if the price drops. Point of me posting now though is that I am still using my 6P and having this issue as well. So looks like google messed up something. Luckily they released a december patch for 8.0 as well so I'm going to do that instead since I'm missing contacts that I frequently communicate with. No clue how they can mess up something so simple.
edit: also, my win10 laptop will not recognize the phone in MTP mode unless usb debugging is on. 8.0 didn't have that issue either. I did freshly flash twice and factory reset just in case but that made no difference with the contacts issue nor the MTP mode not working without USB debugging on.
Just a note, the issue exists on the 8.1 stable, and on the 8.0 stable. I don't think it's related to the update, it's an issue with contacts itself.

I was just coming back in here to mention that. I clean flashed back to 8.0 with dec security patch for my 6P and those same contacts are missing. Not sure what channel to go through to report this issue.
same problem pixel 2 xl
i found that if I removed the profile url a contact would sync to the phone. see atttachment

anyone else experiencing this issue? I am only showing 370/408 contacts. I tried to troubleshoot this with google and they couldn't figure it out. They reassured me that it would eventually sync.

I found if you go to the old contacts UI web interface, you can select people in your circles from G+. At least for my contacts, everyone that had a linked G+ account had that profile URL in the contact entry.
I just got my Pixel 2 XL today, immediately flashed 8.1.....and I have this problem.
I exported all my contacts to csv, removed the profile columns, deleted all Gmail contacts, and re imported

Thank God for XDA, I was going nuts after noticing half of my contacts were gone, including my wife's, mom and brother. Thought it was related to the 8.1 update but guess not. Hopefully we get a fix later tonight or tomorrow.
I have the same issue. Brand New Pixel... I thought it was defective. Just pulled it out the box and when it didn't sync I thought i had a major issue so I did the google support call and the rep told me it was a known issue and should be resolved in 1 to 2 days.
Funny, I was just noticing the same. And it's bad because one of the missing contacts is my wife! Lol
This is not a 8.1 or a Pixel issue, I tested it on a Nexus 5 on Marshmallow by removing and re-adding my account and it also happened there. Took me a few factory resets to finally figure it out cause I was setting up a new Pixel 2 XL by copying from another phone. I realized that as soon as the phone is copied all the contacts are there on the new phone, but after a contact sync some go away, so I just tuned contact sync off immediately after entering Android on first boot. I'm gonna wait it out until they fix it on their end.

gmail sync problems (even in pie)

Hello
as far as i saw
and i research there's no solution right now for ages of the sync problem of Gmail app (or it is the android it self), there is any application that can over it so i can get really notifications on time without any delay like the Gmail app?
it can be at Gmail delay till i open the screen , till now i tried all the available solutions including full wipe of the device and install from scratch, yet the problem there, so i thought maybe to move to another app that can do the same sync without delays.
thank you

Does your issue extend to other phones other than the Pixel? You have posted this same issue several times over a long period of time. You don't mention that your carrier is Swisscom, or consider that to be a contributing factor. What phone did you have before the Pixel.... was it the N6P? Whatever phone it was, did you have the same issue? I'd have to go back and look at my messages but I am pretty sure we had a conversation, you did wipe your phone, Gmail sync time is not adjustable, and maybe you should try/test a different carrier or chalk it up to your location? When you "wiped" your phone did you fastboot flash a full image leaving the wipe switch (-w) in the flash-all script in place or did you remove it?

yes, i fully wiped the phone.
second, it was from day zero with new device - pixel 2 xl.
thered, ot was also with n6p, also, the wipe was a flash of full image leaving the wipe switch (-w) in the flash-all script in place
and the issue is with WiFi so the carrier here is not a factor.
and like the other posts, i think it's android thing and not carrier/isp thing

Well, ok but if I had two different new phones from two different manufacturers (across multiple versions of Android) exhibit the exact same issue, I would conclude differently than you have. Best of luck to you, I know this must be frustrating.
I actually installed Microsoft Outlook because I have, or had, this same problem with Gmail, and the Outlook notifications work. The only thing is there seem to be more notifications since it doesn't screen message priority the same way. Although, after the update to Pie, and a factory reset, the notifications on Gmail have improved to where I took the accounts off of the Outlook app. However, the phone originally seemed to do notifications just fine and then one day just didn't, so we'll see how it goes.
If I have my ipad on and/or my old Note 4, or Nexus 5X on, they'll often show the notifications, while the Pixel 2XL won't. In fact I keep them around because sometimes they're the only way I catch something in time.
I also started having problems with calendar notifications on the Pixel 2XL many months back. I think it has improved after Pie, but seems hit and miss. Again, my prior phones show them just fine.

Little late on the reply, but yeah, the notifications work with Outlook. Which is much better than Gmail if they aren't. But, as I said before, my Gmail came back to life after the last update, so I only have my Hotmail account on Outlook now. Outlook app does tend to show more alerts than Gmail app.
i did also tried the edisson email and it's quit fast than gmail itself

Question Google's Messages stuck on "trying to verify" in chat features activation menu

Never had an issue with this app doing this before, but here we are. I've made sure my number was correct, and even added the Messages app to MagiskHide (which I've never had to do before). It still is stuck. Eventually it gives up trying to verify, but tapping the button just repeats the same issue again. Any ideas?

It's really annoying I've had this before. What I did I'd clear data cache in the messages app restart phone then do same again delete data cache then open messages app and try again. If that fails then you have to turn chat off for 7 days don't try turning chat on within the 7 days otherwise it resets to 7 days again. It's a right pain in the but.
I wish I had a answer for you. I was having the same issue on stock, switching to global, switching to eu, etc. Just a couple nights ago I installed magisk and no modules and left my phone alone for a bit (maybe a hour?), When I picked it back up I had 10 encrypted messages I couldn't read come in from a friend that must have came in over the past couple weeks. It was just random.

Seven days?
Seems excessive. How/where did you get this length of time?

I tried Dale's suggestion, clearing data and cache and rebooting the phone. After a minute it popped up the message "enabling chat features, we'll let you know when it's ready." Checked the settings 15 minutes later, and it said "Trying to verify..." STILL but the button to manually verify was usable.
This sucks.
This had happened to me ever since I got the phone and since my carrier is Verizon, It didn't work right out the gate and tried so many different solutions.
then I read that it could still be linked to your old phone so i put my sim card back and then turned off features and then popped it back to the OP and then just left the messages app run in the background and then it suddenly said chat features enabled.
I don't know if this will help you but it worked for mine.

I turned it off on my old device (doesn't have service anyway). Still no dice. Ugh!!
I've had multiple issues with apps not sending OTP codes or being able to log in completely, and I even think I've had the same issue you are having when I had "dns.adguard.com" set as my private dns setting. Also, if you use AdAway, that could cause the issue. For some reason I have to disable AdAway to use the Amazon app. Weird.

If you have some sort of vpn running, try disabling it and activating chat features. For me it won't work until I turn my vpn off.
is Google carrier services app is up to date on your phone?

Oh yep, in fact I had another thread about that. Turns out the new AdAway seems to inadvertently block a lot of things. Try adding "*amazon*" (without quotation marks) to the whitelist. PayPal was another I needed to add to the whitelist. I also added Google to see if it'd work for this, but nah... No such luck.

Yes. I did find it disabled, oddly, so it's enabled and up to date now. Matter of fact, I even installed the latest from APKmirror.

Thanks for the Amazon tip! I was trying to figure it out for the longest time. Even tried the hard way of adding it a long time ago. Just got used to disabling it to use the app or using Amazon through a browser.
It always takes a minute for my chat features to be enabled. Whenever I get a new phone, I always get the message saying "chat features are unavailable for this device" then after a few hours/days, the pop up says that they're ready. I think I leave Messages open in the background. Never had to disable it on the previous device. T-Mobile user here.

Sure thing, glad I could help. If anything, though, you should thank @terlynn4 for that whitelisting suggestion.
In my case this has been going on for a good few days. I've done websearches and researched all the possible causes and solutions I could find, but nothing has worked in my case. Yet. I think the main issue is that I'm not getting the authorization code that Google sends via a short-code service text or whatever those are called.

Usually when I don't receive the code, it's because AdAway or private DNS settings as stated before. But since you're not using any of those, I'm not sure what else would be preventing from sending the code. Is there any way you can use the Messages for Web feature, bring up your messages on PC, send the code that way and see if it comes up on the web?
I had the exact same issue as you, the issue was that Verizon still had my old phone associated with my account. Verizon support asked my for my iccid (16 digit number physically printed on the sim card), and after they associated it with my new phone I received the backlog of all the sms from short codes that I had missed and rcs verified after 15 minutes and a reboot.

LMAO, was that what it was? Funnily enough, now that you mention that, that might be the case for me as well. I had recently jumped from a OnePlus 7T to the 9 Pro, and everything had transitioned smoothly, other than this.

I don't think it did. Or would. Still no message on either end. Something isn't allowing it to be sent in the first place, it seems.

I had the exact same issue on verizon, but with a globel version. Wouldnt recognize the phone at all. After calling, they pushed me to tech support. Because the phone isnt in their system, the guy had to take an IMEI from another CDMA-Less phone, and enable the CDMA-Less feature. Then he put my IMEI back. Rebooted, and got 2 days worth of texts, and chat features enabled instantly.
The guy said there's a chance that "cleaners" will comb through accounts and reset it, but if it happens, I just have to do the same thing again.
